文摘Background:Oral health issues persistently affect the overall health and well-being of rural populations.Village health volunteers(VHVs)play a crucial role in advancing oral health literacy in their community. This study aimed to examine the factors related to nutritional literacy for oral health among VHVs.Methods:This was a mixed-methods study employing an explanatory sequential design. The quantitative data were gathered through questionnaires distributed to a cohort of 10,514 VHVs registered in Health Region 1.A stratified random sampling technique was used to ensure adequate representation of various subgroups within the VHV population, considering factors such as age, education level, and geographical distribution across the region. This approach allowed for a more representative sample that accurately reflects the diversity of the VHV population.Qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with a purposive sampling of 20 participants based on specific criteria.Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and biserial correlation techniques, while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. Results:The study found that the sample group possessed a moderate level of knowledge of health literacy principles and nutrition for oral health. However, their self-assessed skills in nutritional literacy for oral health were rated as high.A statistically significant negative correlation was found between knowledge of nutrition for oral health and skills in nutritional literacy for oral health.VHVs equated health literacy with knowledge because their public health training had focused more on imparting knowledge rather than developing skills based on health literacy principles. Conclusion:There is a need to emphasize skill-based health literacy training and to use effective skill development techniques that are tailored to the specific roles and responsibilities of health volunteers. It is also recommended to continuously monitor and evaluate the outcomes of these efforts.

文摘Addiction literacy equips older adults with the knowledge to navigate substance use risks amid unique challenges like polypharmacy and social isolation. With rising trends in cannabis use among this group, targeted education can promote safe practices and reduce preventable harms.By fostering open conversations and integrating addiction literacy into healthcare, providers can support informed decision-making.
文摘The pervasive diffusion of Artificial Intelligence(AI)technologies is reshaping how individuals, institutions, and societies access, process, and govern information. While AI promises increased efficiency and personalization across sectors-education,healthcare,work,and public administration-it also introduces new social inequalities linked to unequal capacities to understand, use, and critically engage with these systems. This article explores the sociological implications of digital literacy as a foundational competence for developing AI literacy.Drawing on a multidisciplinary framework, the paper examines how digital literacy, understood in its epistemic, ethical, and political dimensions, enables critical agency in algorithmically mediated environments.Through a structured analysis of current literature and policy perspectives, the article highlights the need for inclusive, situated, and interdisciplinary educational strategies that empower citizens to participate in AI-related decision-making processes. It concludes by proposing a reconceptualization of digital literacy as a civic infrastructure for algorithmic citizenship, grounded in equity, democratic engagement, and technological accountability.
文摘BACKGROUND Given their responsibility for the well-being of individuals, nurses with advanced mental health literacy, along with strong holistic nursing competencies and professional self-efficacy,are better equipped to assess both the mental and physical health of their patients, leading to the provision of holistic nursing care.AIM To investigate the relationship between nurses’mental health literacy levels and their holistic nursing competencies,as well as their nursing professional selfefficacy.METHODS This study is cross-sectional,correlational research. The study sample consisted of a total of 261 volunteer nurses working in a training and research hospital and a state hospital between March 11,2024 and April 8,2024.Data were collected face to face with the“Descriptive Data Form”,“Mental Health Literacy Scale(MHLS)”,“Holistic Nursing Competence Scale(HNCS)”,and the“Nursing Profession Self-Efficacy Scale(NPSES)”.RESULTS The mean scale scores for the nurses were as follows:MHLS:95.88±11.67;HNCS:179.46±33.82;NPSES:64.79±11.24.A low-level positive correlation was found between the total scores of the MHLS,HNCS,and NPSES,and a moderate-level positive correlation was observed between the total scores of the HNCS and NPSES.These correlations were statistically significant(P<0.05).CONCLUSION It is recommended that initiatives be undertaken to enhance the mental health literacy and holistic nursing competencies of nurses and that similar studies be conducted with nurses in different institutions and with a larger number of nurses.
文摘BACKGROUND Organ donation and transplantation are vital for saving lives, yet awareness remains limited.Health literacy, the ability to understand and use health information, and self-control,which influences decision-making,are crucial factors in promoting awareness.Understanding their relationship can guide efforts to increase participation in organ donation.AIM To investigate the effect of health literacy on organ donation and transplantation awareness, with self-control acting as a mediator, and to emphasize its importance.METHODS The study comprised 345 adults recruited from five different cities in Türkiye. The sample included 208 women(60.29%)and 137 men(39.71%).The age range of the sample group varies between 18 and 49(median age=24.13;SD=8.81).Selfreport data were collected including psychometric measures assessing organ donation and transplantation awareness, health literacy, and self-control.Reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, correlational analysis, and mediational analysis of the data were carried.RESULTS The analysis showed that health literacy was positively correlated with organ donation and transplantation awareness(r=0.340)and self-control(r=0.376).Self-control was positively related to organ donation and transplantation awareness(r=0.531).Mediating analysis supported a mediation model where health literacy was found to influence organ donation and transplantation awareness via self-control(bootstrap=0.158,95%confidence interval=0.105-0.215).CONCLUSION The results indicate that self-control mediates the positive relationship between health literacy and organ donation and transplantation awareness.Enhancing individuals’health literacy may therefore increase awareness of organ donation and transplantation through improvements in self-control.
文摘Cancer patients in China navigate a complex and uneven insurance landscape, making plan choice critical for equitable financial protection. This study conducts a structured narrative review(2010-2025)of the Web of Science,PubMed,CNKI,and Wanfang databases, focusing on empirical research on insurance plan choice, enrollment,or switching among cancer patients and their households in China. Two reviewers independently screened studies and extracted information on key determinants and identification strategies. The evidence converges on five main determinants:insurance literacy, health knowledge, prior coverage, financial capability, and policy promotion intensity(PPI).However, most studies are cross-sectional and descriptive, with inconsistent operationalization of determinants, weak or absent mediation tests for PPI,and limited coverage of rural, elderly, and low-literacy populations.Building on these gaps,we synthesize an evidence map, propose an operational PPI index, and highlight quasi-experimental opportunities(such as staggered NRDL updates and variation in local publicity efforts)to identify mechanisms and inform more inclusive,patient-centered insurance design in China.
文摘Objective:To examine the change in COVID-19 booster vaccine hesitancy according to descriptive characteristics, characteristics related to COVID-19,health literacy(HL)skills related to booster dose. Methods:The inclusion criterion was the completion of the primary scheme as two doses of COVID-19 vaccine. The study was conducted in January 2022 by applying face-to-face interview technique.Questions regarding HL were used to question the ability of individuals to access, understand, interpret and use information regarding the COVID-19 booster dose in their decisions. Results:A total of 1210 people were included in this study with an mean age of(41.3±16.6)years,and 51.4%were women. In multivariate analysis, hesitation increased in the"moderately concerned"(aOR 2.65,95%CI 1.09-6.45),"slightly concerned"(aOR 3.01,95%CI 1.26-7.19),"not concerned at all”(aOR 5.69,95%CI 2.27-14.28)groups compared to the group“extremely concerned”about COVID-19 transmission. Those with Sinovac-CoronaVac as their most recent vaccine had increased hesitation compared to those with Pfizer-BioNTech(aOR 3.68,95%CI 2.05-6.61).The effect of HL skills including“accessing”,“understanding”,and“appraising”information on hesitation was not statistically significant(P>0.05).HL skill of“applying”was assessed with ability of information to help decision making.Whether the information is helpful for decision-making,the risk of hesitancy increased for those who stated that it"sometimes helps"(aOR 2.55;95%CI 1.31-4.99)and"never helps"(aOR 11.62;95%CI 3.03-44.58)compared to those who stated that it"always helps".Conclusions:The increased propability of hesitation in those less concerned about COVID-19 transmission shows the importance of appropriately guiding individuals'concern levels with a health communication strategy based on risk communication. The fact that the only HL skill with a significant effect in the multivariate model was“applying”,shows the critical role of this skill in influencing behavioral changes.
