Professor LIAN emphasizes the importance of pulse diagnosis in TCM clinical practice, focusing on the normal and variant aspects of pulse methods, and centers on the dynamic changes of the “Guan pulse” to accurately determine the functional status of the spleen and stomach based on pulse variations, thereby formulating personalized treatment plans. For patients with a slow and moderate pulse, spleen and stomach deficiency and dampness due to spleen deficiency are often identified, and treatment mainly focuses on strengthening the spleen, resolving dampness, and boosting Qi to aid transportation, usually with modifications of Shenling Baizhu San. When the left Guan pulse is string-like and the right Guan pulse is slow and moderate, it indicates liver depression and spleen deficiency, and Xiaoyao San is commonly used to soothe the liver, nourish the blood, and strengthen the spleen, harmonizing the liver and spleen. If the right Guan pulse is large and the left Guan pulse is string-like, it mostly belongs to liver and stomach Qi stagnation, and Bupleurum Liver-soothing powder is often used to soothe the liver, regulate Qi, and harmonize the stomach. A large and empty right Guan pulse suggests insufficiency of Central Qi, and Buzhong Yiqi Tang is commonly used to tonify Qi and soothe the liver. In terms of medication, professor LIAN pays attention to patients’ dietary habits and combines methods of eliminating dampness, promoting digestion, and activating blood circulation to improve symptoms and reverse atrophy.展开更多

Methods: Fifty-four type 2 diabetic patients from low dosage group (20 cases), medium dosage group (19 cases) and high dosage group (15 cases) were treated with different dosage of Gegen Qin Lian Decoction for 12 weeks. Fasting blood-glucose (FBG), postprandial blood sugar (PBG) and Hemoglobin A1c (HbAlc) were determined before and after treatment. Results: With the increase of dosage, the overall effective rate of glycaemic control increased, and FBG, PBG, HbAlc decreased. The overall effective rate of blood glucose control of high dosage, medium dosage and low dosage group were 80%, 47%, 30% respectively, and there were significant differences between high dosage group and low dosage group. The decrease of FBG, PBG and HbAlc of high dosage showed significant differences from low dosage too. These data was analyzed by trend χ2 test and covariance analysis. Conclusion: The result indicated that different dosage of Gegen Qin Lian Decoction has dose-effect relationship in reducing HbAlc and FBG.展开更多

Chinese herbal medicine, which usually contains various active ingredients, could provide multiple therapeutic effects. Professor Tong Xiaolin has accumulated abundant experience during many years of clinical practice and applies Rhizoma Coptidis(RC) well with the treatment of diabetes and its complications. Rhizoma coptidis is a classical natural herb which is used frequently by professor Tong Xiaolin. In this review, we summarize Tong Xiaolin's clinical experience of applying Rhizoma Coptidis(Huang Lian) in the treatment of disease from two aspects as well as introducing some traditional Chinese medical theory and clinical experience, with a prospect of guiding clinician to use RC more suitably and reasonably.展开更多

The control group was treated with routine acupuncture, and stimulated with sparse and dense wave of electric acupuncture for 15 min after arrival of needling sensation, and then the needles were taken out. The observation group was treated with Zhu Lian's type Ⅰ excitation needling technique, by inserting the needles with the quick inserting method, swift and temporary lifting and thrusting technique for shallow insertion for 5times, by an in-and-out technique, without retaining the needles. Results: The total effective rate was 96.7% in the observation group and 83.3% in the control group. The difference in the total effective rate between the two groups was statistically significant(P〈0.05). After the treatment, the first urination time was shorter in the observation group than that in the control group, with a statistical significance(P〈0.01). After the treatment, the volume of residual urine after the first urination was less in the observation group than that in the control group(P〈0.01).Conclusion: Zhu Lian's type Ⅰ excitation needling technique can effectively promote the voluntary urination and bladder emptying in patients with postpartum urinary retention, and it takes effect faster.展开更多
