Aim To find the relationship of periodontal status and dental caries status with oral health knowledge, attitude, behavior, among professional students in India. Methodology In a cross sectional study, a total of 825 students (males: 577, females: 248) fi'om six professions were surveyed using a self administered structured questionnaire including 41 multiple choice questions and the WHO Oral Health Assessment Form (1997). The data was analyzed using the SPSS version 13.0 to perform the Student's t-test, ANOVA test, Scheffe's test and Chi-square test, linear regression analysis. Results The mean percentage scores of the students for knowledge were 53.25 ±15.05; for attitude 74.97±20.48; and for behavior 59.09 ±18.77. The percentage of students with calculus score was found to be significantly high (43.8%). The percentage of professional students with DMFT〉4 was 14.1% and the percentage of students with decayed teeth was 46.2%. The regression analysis showed that the oral health behavior of the students was dependent on the attitude (P〈0.001), but showed no significant linear relation with the knowledge. Also, that the mean DMFT score was dependent on the oral health behavior (P〈0.05), but showed no significant relationship with the knowledge and attitude of the students. The periodontal status was independent on the knowledge, but showed a significant relationship with attitude and behavior of the students. Conclusion A positive attitude and adherence to good oral hygiene behaviors is associated with better oral health. 展开更多

This cross-sectional descriptive study assessed general environmental health literacy among students focusing on their knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors regarding the environmental health, stewardship, and sustainability, using a questionnaire consisting of 35 core questions from the Centers for Diseases Control (CDCs). Students (N = 185) from three high schools in the district were asked through their class teachers to voluntarily complete the questionnaire. Results indicated that about 41% (n = 77) of the students lacked knowledge regarding potential sources of radiation exposure and 70% (n = 133) lacked knowledge regarding radon gas being the number one risk factor for lung cancer among non-smokers. Additionally, the ANOVA test indicated significant knowledge differences among school location. Students in school #1, located in the most affluent area, had significantly higher knowledge scores (M = 4.39) than school #2 located in a moderately affluent area (M = 3.50). Furthermore, we found significant differences in ethnicity on the environmental health attitude of the high school students. Black students reported lower positive environmental health attitude (M = 29.86) than White students (M = 32.63), Hispanic students (M = 32.33) and Asian students (M = 33.84). These findings demonstrated knowledge deficiency in some key areas in environmental health particularly the environmental diseases and conditions caused by manmade hazards such as pesticides, chemicals, radiation, air, water, and soil pollution. Targeted educational interventions to increase awareness and understanding of health effects, exposure to environmental hazards and carcinogens as well as risks associated to direct exposure as in this study, radon and radiation, should be provided to high school students. Practical education through tours where students can observe directly and participating in laboratory experiments could empower the students to translate this knowledge into positive environmental health behaviors and practices now and in the future. 展开更多

The aims were to examine change in nutrition and physical activity knowledge, self efficacy and attitudes in a cohort of 23 teachers and 304 year 5 and 6 children after the “Healthy Active Kids” online program and to assess any behavioral change in children’s self reported nutrition and physical activity behaviors and investigate the predictors of nutrition knowledge gain in teachers and children. Results found significant (p < 0.0001) increases in teacher and student knowledge of the five food groups;key nutrients provided by each food group, The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating;food labelling laws, identification of common names for fats, sugars and salts on food labels, food proportions on the Healthy Food Plate and the level and percentage of water in the human body and human brain. Teacher attitudes towards the importance of nutrition and diet and self efficacy related to teaching nutrition in class improved (p < 0.01). The final regression model for predictors of the dependent variable, knowledge gain in students was R = 0.53, Adjusted R square = 0.28 (F = 4.76, p < 0.01) indicating that 28% of the variation in knowledge gain was predicted by the negative (low) Time 1 knowledge. Changes to eating habits reported by children were “drinking more water each day” (89.1%) and “eating foods from the five food groups each day” (76.2%);“sharing information about food labels with your family” (52.4%);“reading food labels when you go shopping” (50.0%);“changing what is on your dinner plate each night” (44.2%);“vegetables that you eat now that you didn’t eat before” (42.1%) and “fruits that you eat now” (39%). Results suggest that the development of basic nutrition knowledge is still very important for both teachers and students, but that other factors such as self efficacy, empowerment and skill development also contribute to nutrition behavior change in children. 展开更多

Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a primary reason for liver cancer and continues to be a worldwide public health issue. The likelihood of contracting HBV is greater in healthcare workers (HCWs) compared to individuals who are not in healthcare professions. Medical students are classified as a high-risk demographic since, like HCWs, they often come into contact with bodily fluids and blood during their clinical training. By 2030, a greater proportion of people will have received HBV vaccinations, thereby halting the spread of new infections—The Somali Ministry of Health with the help of various agencies announced to eradicate hepatitis from Somalia. The priority actions are national hepatitis strategy, hepatitis survey, public awareness, training, and capacity building. Objectives: This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitude, and vaccination status of Hepatitis B infection among medical university students in Mogadishu, Somalia, 2024. Methods: Cross-sectional study design was used in this study and the survey was carried out among medical students enrolled in Universities from April 1, 2023 to June 30, 2023. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 26.0 software, Chi-square analysis and Logistic regression analysis to identify associations between demographic factors and HBV knowledge, attitudes, and vaccination status, as well as perspectives and immunization status concerning viral hepatitis. Results: The study achieved a response rate of (96%), with 230 participants. Most students (76.5%) were aged 26 - 30 years, and (60.8%) were male. Nearly half (48.7%) were in their third year of study, and the majority (36.1%) were from the Medicine and Surgery department. While 92.2% had heard of HBV, gaps in understanding were evident. About 37.8% erroneously believed HBV could spread via handshakes, and only 33.9% were aware HBV is treatable. Awareness of HBV’s severe complications, such as liver cirrhosis and liver cancer, was reported by 61.3%, and 83% understood that vaccination could prevent infection. Positive attitudes towards HBV vaccination were prevalent. Most participants (81.3%) supported vaccination before sexual activity, and 78.3% endorsed mandatory HBV vaccination policies for healthcare workers. However, 87.4% expressed concerns about the vaccine promoting unsafe sexual behavior, and 96.1% cited cultural resistance as a barrier to vaccination. A significant proportion (80.86%) of students had not been vaccinated against HBV. Among vaccinated students, 17.4%, 15.7%, and 47.82% had received one, two, and three doses, respectively. Barriers to vaccination included safety concerns (77.4%), lack of time (86.52%), and doubts about efficacy (42.61%). Conclusion: This study highlights gaps in knowledge and vaccination coverage among medical students, which are critical for their health and future clinical practice. Enhancing awareness and vaccination rates can empower students to advocate for preventative measures in their professional environments. Despite high awareness of HBV, knowledge gaps and cultural barriers persist, affecting attitudes and vaccination uptake among medical students. Educational interventions addressing misconceptions, cultural resistance, and vaccine safety are critical. Increased advocacy for mandatory vaccination policies in healthcare settings is also essential to improve HBV prevention methods. 展开更多

Objective: To assess the knowledge and attitudes about hepatitis B (HBV) infection among women of reproductive age in China, exploring the factors that influence their understanding of the disease and their perceptions toward individuals infected with HBV. Methods: A descriptive-correlational research design was employed, using purposive sampling to select 114 women of reproductive age from a community in Shandong Province, China. Data were collected through two structured questionnaires: one assessing HBV knowledge and the other measuring attitudes toward HBV. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, including chi-squared tests and Spearman correlation analysis, were used to examine relationships between demographic characteristics, knowledge, and attitudes. Results: The majority of participants demonstrated low knowledge about Hepatitis B, with 99.1% scoring within the low knowledge range. However, respondents exhibited generally positive attitudes toward prevention and inclusion. Significant associations were found between vaccination history and better knowledge scores, as well as between familial exposure and increased knowledge and positive attitudes. A weak inverse relationship between knowledge and attitudes was observed, suggesting that higher knowledge did not necessarily correlate with more favorable attitudes. Conclusion: The study highlights significant gaps in knowledge about Hepatitis B among women of reproductive age, despite positive attitudes toward prevention and social inclusion. Vaccination history and familial exposure were key factors associated with better knowledge and more supportive attitudes. These findings suggest the need for targeted health education strategies that address both knowledge gaps and emotional factors to improve attitudes and enhance preventive behaviors. 展开更多

This study tested a multilevel model of the workplace territorial behaviors and employees’knowledge sharing relationship, with team identification serving as a mediator and task interdependence as a moderator.Data were collected from 253 employees(females=128,mean age=28.626,SD=6.470)from 40 work teams from different industries in China.Path analysis results indicated that workplace territorial behaviors were associated with lower employee knowledge sharing.Team identification enhanced employee knowledge sharing and partially mediated the relationship between workplace territorial behaviors and employee knowledge sharing.Task interdependence enhanced knowledge sharing and strengthened the relationship between team identification and knowledge sharing.Thesefindings extend the proposition of social information processing theory by revealing the mediating role of team identification in the relationship between workplace territorial behaviors and knowledge sharing, and clarifying the boundary conditions of team identification.Practical implications of thesefindings include a need for managers to foster collaborative atmospheres, design interdependent tasks, and mitigate territorial behaviors to enhance team identification and knowledge sharing. 展开更多
