Lucky Jim is Kingsley Amis' first novel and regarded as an important representative work of the"Angry Young Men".Through vivid depiction of Jim's predicament,Jim's rebellion as well as the post-war British society situation,the author showshis concern about the human conditions of individual,community and society.The thesis gives a clear interpretation of the themeby analyzing Jim's powerless rebellion against the academic world and his hopeless breakthrough from the predicament.It express-es that people are extreme dissatisfied with the post-war society and yearn for freedom and a better life.By describing the predica-ment of Jim which includes academic corruption,the fear of unemployment,the hypocrisy of superiors and so on,this thesis revealsthe reasons of Jim's rebellion and thinking all day long for pursuing freedom.However,due to suffer under the repression,the in-ability to pursue freedom and honesty leads to Jim's increasing feeling for discontent.The thesis also presents Jim's powerless re-volt and his anger to highlight the big breakthrough in the disappointed plight.The thesis considers that the novel in the aspect ofencouraging people to fight with high culture and bravely pursuing freedom still has the edificatory significance for the academic re-search. 展开更多
