In order to study the reliability of the empirical estimation of joint shear strength by the JRC(joint roughness coefficient)-JCS(joint compressive strength) model,natural rock joints of dif-ferent lithologic char...In order to study the reliability of the empirical estimation of joint shear strength by the JRC(joint roughness coefficient)-JCS(joint compressive strength) model,natural rock joints of dif-ferent lithologic characteristics and different sizes were selected as samples,and their shear strengths under dry and saturated conditions were measured by direct shear test and compared to those esti-mated by the JRC-JCS model.Comparison results show that for natural rock joints with joint surfaces closely matched,the average relative error of joint shear strength between empirical estimation and direct shear test is 9.9%;the reliability of the empirical estimation of joint shear strength by the JRC-JCS model is good under both dry and saturated conditions if the JRC is determined accounting for directional statistical measurements,scale effect and surface smoothing during shearing.However,for natural rock joints with joint surfaces mismatched,the average relative error of joint shear strength between empirical estimation and direct shear test is 39.9%;the reliability of empirical estimation of joint shear strength by the JRC-JCS model is questionable under both dry and saturated conditions.展开更多

Based on the experimental results of intact Brazilian disc of rock-like material, a set of micro-parameters in PFC2D that reflected the macro-mechanical behavior of rock-like materials were obtained. And then PFC2D was used to simulate Brazilian splitting test for jointed rock mass specimens and specimen containing a central straight notch. The effect of joint angle and notch angle on the tensile strength and failure mode of jointed rock specimens was detailed analyzed. In order to reveal the meso-mechanical mechanism of crack coalescence, displacement trend lines were applied to analyze the displacement evolution during the crack initiation and propagation. The investigated conclusions can be described as follows. (1) The tensile strength of jointed rock mass disc specimen is dependent to the joint angle. As the joint angle increases, the tensile strength of jointed rock specimen takes on a nonlinear variance. (2) The tensile strength of jointed rock mass disc specimen containing a central straight notch distributes as a function of both joint angle and notch angle. (3) Three major failure modes, i.e., pure tensile failure, shear failure and mixed tension and shear failure mode are observed in jointed rock mass disc specimens under Brazilian test. (4) The notch angle roles on crack initiation and and joint angle play important propagation characteristics of jointed rock mass disc specimen containing a central straight notch under Brazilian test.展开更多
T91 steel is one of the new materials presently employed in power plant pipe components. The creep rupture strength and microstructure of the T91+10CrMo910 and T91+13CrMo44 welded joints were analyzed during creep rupture tests. Creep transgranular ductile rupture occurred at the 10CrMo910 matrix in the T91+10CrMo910 welded joints and creep intergranular brittle rupture occurred at the 13CrMo44 HAZ in the T91+13CrMo44 joints. Microhardness measurements showed high hardness at the heat affected zone (HAZ) of T91 and a sharply drop at the 13CrMo44 HAZ during creep rupture. The metallographic tests showed that no obvious microstructure degradation was observed in the 10CrMo910 HAZ and matrix, while creep cracks appeared at the 13CrMo44 HAZ. T91 steel had relatively high creep resistant strength in the welded joints tested. Recovery occurred in the T91 HAZ with the growth of subgrain size and the decrease of dislocation density during creep. It was concluded that the dissimilar joints of T91 and low alloy heat-resistant steel should have close creep strength matching to increase the service life of the overall joints at elevated temperature.展开更多
Components of mechanical product are assembled by structural joints,such as bolting,riveting,welding,etc.Structural joints introduce nonlinearity to some engineering structures,and the nonlinearity need to be modeled ...Components of mechanical product are assembled by structural joints,such as bolting,riveting,welding,etc.Structural joints introduce nonlinearity to some engineering structures,and the nonlinearity need to be modeled precisely.To meet serious quality requirements,it is necessary to detect and identify nonlinearity of mechanical products for structural optimization.Modal test to acquire a dynamic response has been applied for decades,which provides reliable results for finite element(FE)model updating.Here response control vibration test for identification of nonlinearity is presented.A nonlinear system can be regarded as linearity for particular steady state response,and classical linear analysis tool is applicable to extract modal data for particular response.First,its applicability is illustrated by some numerical simulations.Subsequently,it is implemented on experimental setup with structural joints by shaking table.The stiffness and damping function dependent of relative displacement are fitted to describe its inherent nonlinearity.The spring and damping forces are identified by harmonic balance method(HBM)to predict output response.Based on the identified results,the procedure is recommended that it allows a reliable measurement of nonlinearity with a certain accuracy.展开更多
Micro-structure related behavior of diffusion bonding joints is a crucial issue in device and reactor fabrication of Micro Chemo Mechanical Systems.However,the previous studies have been focused on the macro mechanica...Micro-structure related behavior of diffusion bonding joints is a crucial issue in device and reactor fabrication of Micro Chemo Mechanical Systems.However,the previous studies have been focused on the macro mechanical performance of diffusion bonded joint,especially diffusion bonding conditions effects on tensile strength,shearing strength and fatigue strength.The research of interfacial micro-voids and microstructures evolution for failure mechanism has not been carried out for diffusion-bonded joints.An interfacial electrical resistance measuring method is proposed to evaluate the quality of bonded joints and verified by using two-dimensional finite-element simulation.The influences of micro void geometry on increments of resistance are analyzed and the relationship between bonded area fraction and resistance increment is established by theoretical analysis combined with simulated results.Metallographic inspections and micro-hardness testing are conducted near the interface of diffusion bonded joints.For the purpose of identifying the failure mechanisms of the joints,both microscopic tensile and fatigue tests are conducted on the self-developed in-situ microscopic fatigue testing system.Based on the microscopic observations,the mechanism of interfacial failure is addressed.The observation result shows that for 316LSS diffusion-bonded joints,microstructure evolution and effect of micro-voids play a key role in interfacial failure mechanism.Finally,a new life prediction model in terms of the increment of electrical resistance is developed and confirmed by the experimental results.The proposed study is initiated that constituted a primary interfacial failure mechanism on micron scale and provide the life prediction for reliability of components sealed by diffusion bonding.展开更多
Purpose–Safety management is a key point and poses a challenge in joint testing.To detect and address potential accidents’hidden dangers early,this paper conducts research on the safety control technology for high-s...Purpose–Safety management is a key point and poses a challenge in joint testing.To detect and address potential accidents’hidden dangers early,this paper conducts research on the safety control technology for high-speed railway joint tests by incorporating the concept of hazardous events.Design/methodology/approach–Aiming at ensuring the safety of high-speed railway combined inspections and trials,this paper starts from the dual prevention mechanism.It introduces the concept of threatening events,defines them and analyzes the differences between threatening events and railway accidents.The paper also proposes a cause model for threatening events in high-speed railway combined inspections and trials,based on three types of hazard sources.Furthermore,it conducts research on the control strategies for these threatening events.Findings–The research on safety control technology for high-speed railway combined operation and testing,based on the analysis of threatened events,offers a new perspective for safety management in these operations.It also provides theoretical and practical support for the transition from passive prevention to active risk pre-control,which holds significant theoretical and practical value.Originality/value–The innovation mainly includes the following three aspects:(1)Building on the traditional dual prevention mechanism,which includes risk hierarchical management and control as well as hidden danger investigation and management,a triple prevention mechanism is proposed.This new mechanism adds the management of threatening events as the third line of defense.The aim is to more comprehensively identify and address potential security risks,thereby enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of security management.(2)In this paper,the definition of a railway threatening event is clarified,and the causative model of a high-speed railway threatening event based on three kinds of danger sources is proposed.(3)This paper puts forward the control strategy of the high-speed railway combined operation and trial,which includes five key links:identification,reporting,analysis,rectification and feedback,which provides a new perspective for the safety management of the high-speed railway combined operation and trial and has important theoretical and application value.展开更多

The PPSRC consists of partial steel and reinforced concrete. The partial steel is located in the core joint region and the connections between concrete members. This paper presents an experimental study of a series of PPSRC specimens. These specimens are tested under low cyclic loading.Experimental results demonstrate that the bearing capacity of the PPSRC specimens is 3 times that of the ordinary reinforced concrete( RC) beam-column joints. The strength and stiffness degradation rates are slower compared with that of the RC beam-column joints. In addition,the strength of the core joint region and the connections is higher than other parts of the PPSRC specimens. Beam failure occurs firstly for the PPSRC specimens,followed by column failure and connections failure. The failure of the core joint region occurs finally.Test results show that the seismic performance of the PPSRC is better than that of the ordinary RC beam-column joints.展开更多
Tribological tests play an important role on the evaluation of long-term bio-tribological performances of prosthetic materials for commercial fabrication.Those tests focus on the motion simulation of a real joint in v...Tribological tests play an important role on the evaluation of long-term bio-tribological performances of prosthetic materials for commercial fabrication.Those tests focus on the motion simulation of a real joint in vitro with only normal loads and constant velocities,which are far from the real friction behavior of human joints characterized with variable loads and multiple directions.In order to accurately obtain the bio-tribological performances of artificial joint materials,a tribological tester with a miniature four-station tribological system is proposed with four distinctive features.Firstly,comparability and repeatability of a test are ensured by four equal stations of the tester.Secondly,cross-linked scratch between tribo-pairs of human joints can be simulated by using a gear-rack meshing mechanism to produce composite motions.With this mechanism,the friction tracks can be designed by varying reciprocating and rotating speeds.Thirdly,variable loading system is realized by using a ball-screw mechanism driven by a stepper motor,by which loads under different gaits during walking are simulated.Fourthly,dynamic friction force and normal load can be measured simultaneously.The verifications of the performances of the developed tester show that the variable frictional tracks can produce different wear debris compared with one-directional tracks,and the accuracy of loading and friction force is within ?5%.Thus the high consistency among different stations can be obtained.Practically,the proposed tester system could provide more comprehensive and accurate bio-tribological evaluations for prosthetic materials.展开更多

The effect of interference fits on the fatigue lives of bolted composite joints is investigated by conducting mechanical tests.Static and fatigue tests are carried out on specimens made of carbon-bismaleimide composit...The effect of interference fits on the fatigue lives of bolted composite joints is investigated by conducting mechanical tests.Static and fatigue tests are carried out on specimens made of carbon-bismaleimide composites joined together as double-lap single-bolt joints.The bolts having interference fits ranging of 0(neat fit),0.5%,0.75% and 1% are performed.The results demonstrate the relationship between fatigue life and different values of interference fits.After the fatigue tests,non-destructive evaluation(NDE) and scanning electron microscope(SEM) are used to observe the damage of the surrender and surface of the hole.The test results show that the interference fitted specimens have improved fatigue life compared to the neat fitted specimen.The NDE and SEM results reveal that the damage degree of interference fitted specimen is weaker than that for the neat fitted one.展开更多

This paper re-processes and re-elaborates the results of shaking table tests previously carried out by the author and other co-workers. The columnar jointed rock mass(CJR), composed of polygonal cross-sectional columns cut by several groups of joints in various directions, was exposed during the excavations of the Baihetan hydropower station, China. I...The columnar jointed rock mass(CJR), composed of polygonal cross-sectional columns cut by several groups of joints in various directions, was exposed during the excavations of the Baihetan hydropower station, China. In order to investigate the unloading performances and the stability conditions during excavation of the columns, an experimental field study was performed. Firstly, on-site investigations indicated that the geotechnical problems, including rock relaxation, cracking and collapse, were the most prominent for the CJR Class I that contains intensive joint network and the smallest column sizes.Comprehensive field tests, including deformation measurement by multi-point extensometers, ultrasonic wave testing, borehole television observation and stress monitoring of rock anchors, revealed that the time-dependent relaxation of the CJRs was marked. The practical excavation experiences for the Baihetan columnar jointed rock masses, such as blasting scheme, supporting time of shotcrete and rock bolts, were presented in the excavations of the diversion tunnels. These detailed investigations and practical construction experiences can provide helpful information for similar geotechnical works in jointed rock mass.展开更多

文摘Tribological tests play an important role on the evaluation of long-term bio-tribological performances of prosthetic materials for commercial fabrication.Those tests focus on the motion simulation of a real joint in vitro with only normal loads and constant velocities,which are far from the real friction behavior of human joints characterized with variable loads and multiple directions.In order to accurately obtain the bio-tribological performances of artificial joint materials,a tribological tester with a miniature four-station tribological system is proposed with four distinctive features.Firstly,comparability and repeatability of a test are ensured by four equal stations of the tester.Secondly,cross-linked scratch between tribo-pairs of human joints can be simulated by using a gear-rack meshing mechanism to produce composite motions.With this mechanism,the friction tracks can be designed by varying reciprocating and rotating speeds.Thirdly,variable loading system is realized by using a ball-screw mechanism driven by a stepper motor,by which loads under different gaits during walking are simulated.Fourthly,dynamic friction force and normal load can be measured simultaneously.The verifications of the performances of the developed tester show that the variable frictional tracks can produce different wear debris compared with one-directional tracks,and the accuracy of loading and friction force is within ?5%.Thus the high consistency among different stations can be obtained.Practically,the proposed tester system could provide more comprehensive and accurate bio-tribological evaluations for prosthetic materials.
文摘The authors show the results of a study conducted on a joint connecting a concrete column to a composite steel concrete floor,subjected to tension on the beams as a result of the decomposition of sagging bending moment.The beam to column connection is achieved by means of headed studs welded to the beam and embedded in the concrete cast.Five different configurations have been tested at failure and the results are compared to formulae proposed in literature.Different degrees of ductility,reliability and strength have been obtained varying geometry and reinforcement ratio on the joints tested.
文摘The effect of interference fits on the fatigue lives of bolted composite joints is investigated by conducting mechanical tests.Static and fatigue tests are carried out on specimens made of carbon-bismaleimide composites joined together as double-lap single-bolt joints.The bolts having interference fits ranging of 0(neat fit),0.5%,0.75% and 1% are performed.The results demonstrate the relationship between fatigue life and different values of interference fits.After the fatigue tests,non-destructive evaluation(NDE) and scanning electron microscope(SEM) are used to observe the damage of the surrender and surface of the hole.The test results show that the interference fitted specimens have improved fatigue life compared to the neat fitted specimen.The NDE and SEM results reveal that the damage degree of interference fitted specimen is weaker than that for the neat fitted one.

文摘The joints connecting vertical and horizontal elements are the "weak link" in structural systems assembled from wood panels. If they are too weak, local failures may occur, resulting in performance that is significantly below expectations. If they are too resistant, the joints may be unable to dissipate energy during vibrations, thus possibly initiating a fast progressive failure. This paper re-processes and re-elaborates the results of shaking table tests previously carried out by the author and other co-workers. The goal is to assess the feasibility of a joint which is able to dissipate energy during vibration, without degrading the connection performance.
文摘Improvement of the fatigue life of welded tubular T-joints in offshore platforms due to weld toe grinding and TIG dressing is studied physically and experimentally. It is shown that the two methods of treatment can improve the fatigue strength of welded tubular joints not only in the environment of air but even in the envirnment of seawater accordingly.

文摘The Hopkinson pressure bar tests for base metal and friction stir jointing ( FSJ ) jointed region of 7022aluminum alloy are carried out at different temperatures and strain rates.The temperature is 30 - 400°C and the strain rate is 1 200 - 5 000s -1 .High strain rate for base metal and FSJ jointed region of 7022aluminum alloy are studied.The corresponding stress-strain curves are obtained.The results show that the flow stresses of base metal and FSJ jointed region of 7022aluminum alloy decline with the increase of temperature and increase with the increase of strain rate.Furthermore , the constitutive equation for base metal and FSJ jointed region of 7022aluminum alloy at high temperature and high strain rate is obtained based on Johnson-Cook model.

文摘The columnar jointed rock mass(CJR), composed of polygonal cross-sectional columns cut by several groups of joints in various directions, was exposed during the excavations of the Baihetan hydropower station, China. In order to investigate the unloading performances and the stability conditions during excavation of the columns, an experimental field study was performed. Firstly, on-site investigations indicated that the geotechnical problems, including rock relaxation, cracking and collapse, were the most prominent for the CJR Class I that contains intensive joint network and the smallest column sizes.Comprehensive field tests, including deformation measurement by multi-point extensometers, ultrasonic wave testing, borehole television observation and stress monitoring of rock anchors, revealed that the time-dependent relaxation of the CJRs was marked. The practical excavation experiences for the Baihetan columnar jointed rock masses, such as blasting scheme, supporting time of shotcrete and rock bolts, were presented in the excavations of the diversion tunnels. These detailed investigations and practical construction experiences can provide helpful information for similar geotechnical works in jointed rock mass.
