The chemical structures of the new lignans were determined by spectroscopic means including 1 D and 2 D NMR analysis. These compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic and anti-HIV activities. The new secoisolariciresinol dimethyl ether acetate(13) exhibited anti-HIV-1 activity with an IC50 value of 5.27 μmol·L^-1 and a selective index(SI) value of 2.2. The known arylnaphthalene lignan procumbenoside A(3) and diphyllin(8) demonstrated inhibitory activity against HIV-1 with IC50 values of 4.95(SI > 6.2) and 0.38 μmol·L^-1(SI = 5.3), respectively. 展开更多

A new genus,Wuacanthus Y.F.Deng,N.H.Xia&H.Peng(Acanthaceae),is described from the Hengduan Mountains,China.Wuacanthus is based on Wuacanthus microdontus(W.W.Sm.)Y.F.Deng,N.H.Xia&H.Peng,originally published in Justicia and then moved to Mananthes.The new genus is characterized by its shrub habit,strongly 2-lipped corolla,the 2-lobed upper lip,3-lobed lower lip,2 stamens,bithecous anthers,parallel thecae with two spurs at the base,2 ovules in each locule,and the 4-seeded capsule.Phylogenetic analyses show that the new genus belongs to the Pseuderanthemum lineage in tribe Justicieae.Wuacanthus is closely related to Pseuderanthemum but differs from the latter by its shorter corolla tube and two minute spurs at the base of each anther-theca.W.microdontus is assessed with the status EN B2ab(iii)based on the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. 展开更多

Objective:To synthesize bio-inspired gold nanoparticles(AuNPs)using the leaf extract of Justicia adhatoda and evaluate the anti-cancer activity on human lung cancer cell line(A549).Methods:Synthesis of AuNPs was done using an aqueous leaf extract of Justicia adhatoda as a green route.The bio-synthesized AuNPs were confirmed and characterized by using various spectral studies such as UV-Vis spectrum,Scanning Electron Microscope with EDAX,Transmission Electron Microscope,Fourier Transmission Infrared Spectroscope analysis and Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy.The cell viability was determined by MTT reduction assay.In addition,cytomorphology and the nuclear morphological study of A549 cell line was observed under fluorescence microscope.Results:UV-Vis spectrum showed surface plasmon resonance peak at 547 nm,scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope studies showed the monodispersed spherical shape and its average size in the range of 40.1 nm was noticed.Fourier Transmission Infrared Spectroscope analysis confirmed that the C=O group of amino acids of proteins had strong ability to bind with the surface of nanoparticle.Interestingly,our results also demonstrated inhibited proliferation of A549 cell line by MTT(IC50 value:80μg/mL).Cell morphology was observed and cell death was caused by apoptosis as revealed by propidium iodide staining.Conclusions:The current study proves the anticancer potential of bio-synthesized AuNPs.Thus,synthesized AuNPs can be used for the treatment of human lung cancer cell(A549)and it can be exploited for drug delivery in future. 展开更多

The use of plant parts (leaves, flowers, stems, barks, roots etc.) in traditional medicine is increasingly gaining ground in modern medicine, as plant sources have long been recognized as sources of secondary metabolites which can be used to treat a wide range of diseases. The effect of extracts of Justicia secunda leaves on red blood cells (RBC) count and haemoglobin (Hb) concentration was investigated in adult Sprague-Dawley rats to establish haematinic activity. Phenylhydrazine (PHZ)-induced anaemic rats were treated with water, methanol or ethyl acetate extracts at 200 mg/kg body weight. RBC counts and Hb concentration were analysed using a haematology analyser at 3-day intervals for 21 days. The extracts were compared with rats administered the haematinic tonic Feroglobin&reg;?and vehicle-treated (normal saline). Rats administered the water extract exhibited the most significant increase (P ) in the number of RBCs and Hb concentration compared with the vehicle-treated PHZ-induced anaemic rats. Rats administered the methanol extract followed with significant increase (P ) in RBC counts and Hb concentration (J. secunda leaves has excellent haematinic properties and this provides the pharmacological basis of its use in Ghanaian traditional medicine for the treatment of anaemia. 展开更多

Background: Justicia adhatoda and Ocimum tenuiflorum, locally known as bashok and tulsi, are two ethnomedicinally important herbs that have been using as dietary supplements for several therapeutic applications. This study evaluated the combined effect of both the herbs as an antioxidative and antihyperlipidemic agent.Methods: Antihyperlipidemic effect was assessed in a high-fat diet-induced hyperlipidemic model in Wistar albino rats. The rats were treated orally with extracts of bashok(J adhatoda, 200 mg/kg bw), tulshi(O tenuiflorum, 200 mg/kg bw), and a combination of bashok and tulshi(50:50), as well as with a reference drug, atorvastatin(10 mg/kg/day), with or without high-fat diet for 14 days. The antioxidative effect was studied using established in vitro models. The studies were supported by experimentally testing the effects of the extracts on membrane stabilization and inhibition of protein denaturation.Results: The results showed that the serum lipid profile was significantly decreased in the different treatment groups, with bashok having the greatest effect. Body weights, total serum protein, LDH, and relative liver and adipose tissue weights were markedly restored towards baseline values, the lowest atherogenic index being achieved with the combined extract. The combination treatment significantly enhanced total phenolic content and antioxidative capacity and greatly potentiated membrane stabilization, but inhibition of protein denaturation was not significantly affected.Conclusion: The data demonstrate that a combination of Justicia adhatoda and Ocimum tenuiflorum could be developed as a food supplement with antioxidative and antihyperlipidemic benefits. 展开更多

Tea is one of the most consumed drinks in the world,second only to water,and is renowned for its wide range of health benefits.This study examined the development of tea blends from blends of Ficus capensis,and Justicias ecunda leaves.Dried leaves of F.capensis and J.Secunda were milled,sieved,and processed into tea using a three-level factorial design.The process was modelled and optimized.The tea was evaluated for physicochemical,phenolic compounds profile,antioxidants,and functional groups using standard procedures.The blood-boosting potentials of the herbal tea blends were investigated through animal experiment and haematological evaluations were carried out on the fed animals.The results gave the optimal extracts blends of 48 g/100 g of F.capensis and 52 g/100 g of J.secunda.Antioxidants showed 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazl value of 6464.95±1.97μmol Trolox equivalents/100 g,ferric reducing power(40.13±0.07 mmol Fe2+/100 g),and metal chelating(57.40±0.62%).Physicochemical property showed total dissolved solids value of 6.51±0.11 mg/g,^(*)L(78.35±0.42),^(*)a(3.14±0.09),and ^(*)b(13.57±0.12).Phenolic compounds profile showed the presence of epicatechin(115.63±0.052 mg/100 g),which have been associated with ability to improve healthy-living and lower the risk of some degenerative health issues.The in vivo results showed that developed tea was able to recover up to 95.28%of the packed cell volume,red blood cell(94.78%),and haemoglobin(97.52%),which compared well with the commercial product.The study showed the potential application of F.Capensis and J.Secunda leaves extracts in the formulation of functional beverage.The formulation procedures is scalable and has domestic and industrial applications.The tea blend could serve as a functional food ingredient and beverage to improve human health. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate traditional uses of medicinal plant Justicia adhatoda L.by Meitei community in Manipur.Methods:Surveys were carried out in four districts in Central Valley of Manipur viz.,Imphal East,Imphal West,Bishnupur and Thoubal between 2008-2013 to collect information on the ethnobotanical uses of the species.Local people and Maiba/maibis(men/women healers)in the study areas were interviewed and preparation techniques of medicine and cuisines from the plant parts were demonstrated and photographed.Results:It was found that Meitei community in the study area extensively used Justicia adhatoda L.as ethno-medicine as well as food.Young and mature green leaves were used as traditional medicine in different ways to cure many ailments like cough,fever,asthma and dysentery.The ethnic community used inflorescences and leaves of the plant to prepare different cuisines for good digestion and health.Conclusions:Documentation of detailed ethnobotanical uses of individual plant species is need of the hour and it will help in understanding the in-depth knowledge about the role of species in the society. 展开更多

爵床(Justicia procumbens L.)是一种传统的中药材。为探明爵床提取物对辣椒炭疽病菌的抑制作用,采用生长速率法和孢子萌发法分别测定了爵床提取物对辣椒炭疽病菌菌丝生长、孢子产生和孢子萌发的抑制作用,采用苗期盆栽试验观察爵床提取... 爵床(Justicia procumbens L.)是一种传统的中药材。为探明爵床提取物对辣椒炭疽病菌的抑制作用,采用生长速率法和孢子萌发法分别测定了爵床提取物对辣椒炭疽病菌菌丝生长、孢子产生和孢子萌发的抑制作用,采用苗期盆栽试验观察爵床提取物对辣椒炭疽病的防治效果。结果表明,爵床甲醇提取物可抑制辣椒炭疽病菌菌丝生长、孢子产生和孢子萌发,其活性随着浓度的提高而增强,抑制中浓度分别为4.23、2.16和2.98mg/mL。通过对爵床提取物处理后病菌孢子萌发形态显微观察,发现病菌孢子芽管长度受到明显抑制甚至不能萌发。当提取物浓度为16mg/mL时对苗期辣椒炭疽病的防效达73.08%。 展开更多

目的:建立爵床药材中6'-羟基-爵床定B、新爵床脂定B和Taiwan E 3个活性成分的HPLC含量测定方法。方法:采用Eclipse XDB-C18色谱柱(4.6 mm×150 mm,5μm),流动相为乙腈-水,梯度洗脱(0~9 min,40%乙腈;9~10 min,40%→45%乙腈;10... 目的:建立爵床药材中6'-羟基-爵床定B、新爵床脂定B和Taiwan E 3个活性成分的HPLC含量测定方法。方法:采用Eclipse XDB-C18色谱柱(4.6 mm×150 mm,5μm),流动相为乙腈-水,梯度洗脱(0~9 min,40%乙腈;9~10 min,40%→45%乙腈;10~40 min,45%乙腈),流速0.8 mL·min-1,检测波长256 nm,柱温30℃。结果:6'-羟基-爵床定B、新爵床脂定B和Tai-wan E的线性范围分别为0.023~0.454μg(r=0.9999)、0.022~0.446μg(r=0.9999)和0.024~0.478μg(r=0.9998);平均回收率分别为101.7%(RSD=1.6%)、95.7%(RSD=0.30%)和99.4%(RSD=1.7%)。结论:本方法可用于爵床药材的质量控制。 展开更多

爵床(Justiciaprocumbensvar.procumbensL.)是一种传统中药。为探明爵床提取物的抑菌杀虫活性,采用冷浸和超声波提取相结合的方法,分别获得了爵床甲醇、氯仿、丙酮、乙酸乙酯和正己烷等溶剂提取物;并应用抑菌圈法研究了5种提取... 爵床(Justiciaprocumbensvar.procumbensL.)是一种传统中药。为探明爵床提取物的抑菌杀虫活性,采用冷浸和超声波提取相结合的方法,分别获得了爵床甲醇、氯仿、丙酮、乙酸乙酯和正己烷等溶剂提取物;并应用抑菌圈法研究了5种提取物对柑橘炭疽病菌(Colletotrichumgloeosprioides)、芦笋茎枯病菌(Phomopsisasparagi)、稻瘟病菌(Pyriculariagrisea)、棉花红腐病菌(Fusariumgraminearum)和草莓灰霉病菌(Botrytiscinema)等5种植物病原真菌的抑制效果,测定了甲醇提取物对柑橘炭疽病、芦笋茎枯病、草莓灰霉病和柑橘溃疡病(Xanthomonascampestris)等4种植物病菌及白蚊伊蚊似edesalbopictus)、家蝇(Muscadomestica)和菜青虫(Pierisrapae)等3种害虫的毒力。结果表明,不同极性溶剂提取物8mg·mL-1对5种植物病原真菌均有一定的抑制作用,其中甲醇提取物对柑橘炭疽病菌、芦笋茎枯病菌、草莓灰霉病菌的抑制率均达50%以上。爵床甲醇提取物具有较强的抑菌杀虫活性,对柑橘炭疽病菌、芦笋茎枯病菌和草莓灰霉病菌菌丝生长的抑制中浓度(EC50)分别为5.94mg·mL-1、4.61mg·mL-1和5.27mg·mL-1,EC90分别为63.69mg·mL-1、58.01mg·mL-1和54.57mg·mL-1;0.25~1.00mg·mL-1爵床甲醇提取物对柑橘溃疡病病菌显示强抑菌作用,0.125mg·mL-1显示中度抑菌作用,最小抑制浓度(MC)为0.0625mg·mL-1;爵床甲醇提取物对白蚊伊蚊、家蝇和菜青虫的致死中浓度(LC50)分别为0.1958mg·mL-1、0.35l4mg·mL-1和0.2877mg·mL-1,LC95分别为0.9884mg·mL-1、3.0532mg·mL-1和2.5844mg·mL-1。因此,爵床提取物作为生物农药,在农业生产中具有较好的应用前景。 展开更多

为探明爵床(Justicia procumbens)甲醇提取物对小菜蛾的生物活性,采用室内生测法测定了爵床甲醇提取物对小菜蛾的触杀、拒食、胃毒、生长发育抑制和产卵忌避作用。结果表明,爵床甲醇提取物对小菜蛾幼虫具有较强的触杀、拒食、胃毒和生... 为探明爵床(Justicia procumbens)甲醇提取物对小菜蛾的生物活性,采用室内生测法测定了爵床甲醇提取物对小菜蛾的触杀、拒食、胃毒、生长发育抑制和产卵忌避作用。结果表明,爵床甲醇提取物对小菜蛾幼虫具有较强的触杀、拒食、胃毒和生长发育抑制活性,对小菜蛾成虫具有较强的产卵忌避活性。在触杀试验中,药后1、2 d和3 d爵床甲醇提取物对小菜蛾3龄幼虫的致死中浓度(LC50)分别为5.17、4.05和3.06 mg/m L;在拒食试验中,药后1 d和2 d提取物对3龄幼虫的选择性拒食中浓度(AFC50)分别为2.64和3.13 mg/m L,药后1 d和2 d提取物对3龄幼虫的非选择性拒食中浓度(AFC50)分别为3.70、4.54 mg/m L;在胃毒试验中,药后4、5、6 d和7 d提取物对3龄幼虫的致死中浓度(LC50)分别为8.13、3.65、2.88、2.23 mg/m L;在生长发育抑制试验中,药后1 d和2 d提取物对3龄幼虫的抑制中浓度(IC50)分别为2.02、1.40 mg/m L;在产卵忌避试验中,药后1、2 d和3 d提取物对小菜蛾成虫的选择性产卵忌避中浓度(AOC50)分别为2.61、3.66、4.58 mg/m L,药后1、2和3 d提取物对小菜蛾成虫的非选择性产卵忌避中浓度(AOC50)分别为3.19、4.52、5.65 mg/m L。由此证实,爵床提取物对小菜蛾具有显著的毒杀活性,具有开发为新型高效、低毒植物源农药的潜在价值。 展开更多
