The 4^(th)International Ophiolite Workshop of the International Geoscience Programme“Diamonds and Recycled Mantle”(IGCP-649)was successfully held from 4^(th)July to 14^(th)July,in Brisbane(Australia)and New Caledoni...The 4^(th)International Ophiolite Workshop of the International Geoscience Programme“Diamonds and Recycled Mantle”(IGCP-649)was successfully held from 4^(th)July to 14^(th)July,in Brisbane(Australia)and New Caledonia(Fig.1).The workshop was led by Prof.Jingsui Yang from Institute of Geology of CAGS,China and Prof.Jonathan Aitchison from School of Earth and Environment Sciences,The University of Queensland,Australia.After the workshop,attendees participated in a field trip to New Caledonia.More than 70 scientists from China(including Hong Kong),Australia,New Caledonia,USA and Russia attended this workshop held on 5^(th)to 6^(th)July,2018,in the University of Queensland,St Lucia Campus,Brisbane,and 60 of them participated in the after-workshop field trip in New Caledonia.At the beginning of the workshop,Prof.Jonathan Aitchison(Head of School,School of Earth and Environmental Sciences,The University of Queensland)made opening speeches welcoming all the participants.展开更多
The new Project 596(2011-2015)within the International Geoscience Programme(IGCP)started in April 2011.It focuses on climate change and biodiversity patterns in the Mid-Paleozoic(Early Devonian to Late Carboniferous)....The new Project 596(2011-2015)within the International Geoscience Programme(IGCP)started in April 2011.It focuses on climate change and biodiversity patterns in the Mid-Paleozoic(Early Devonian to Late Carboniferous).Here we provide a summary of activities during the Opening Meeting.The first annual conference resulted in a consolidation of a global network including researchers of other large projects such as IGCP 580 and IGCP 591.Until now the group of participants interested in collaboration counts 135 scientists of 26 countries of which more than one-third are women in science.Participants come form Australia(2),Austria(3),Belgium(10),Bulgaria(2),Canada(1),China(1),Czech Republic(12),Estonia(1),France(13),Germany(11),Iran(1),Italy(5),Japan(7),Malaysia(1),Mongolia(4),Morocco(1),Myanmar(1),Poland(8),Portugal(2),Russia(10),Spain(19),Thailand(4),Turkey(3),United Kingdom(3),U.S.A.(9),and Vietnam(1).In order to secure the future of the international collaboration within IGCP 596,further financial support is acquired by project-grants from national science institutions of several countries.In addition to the achievements during the Opening Meeting,a short overview on other joint conferences held in 2011 and those scheduled for 2012 is given.展开更多
The third annual workshop of the International Geoscience Programme Project 565“Developing the Global Geodetic Observing System into a Monitoring System for the Global Water Cycle,”which was jointly organized by IGC...The third annual workshop of the International Geoscience Programme Project 565“Developing the Global Geodetic Observing System into a Monitoring System for the Global Water Cycle,”which was jointly organized by IGCP 565,the Group on Earth Observations(GEO)and the Global Geodetic Observing System(GGOS),was held on 11-13 October 2010 at the University of Nevada,Reno,in Reno,Nevada,USA.During the three days,a total of 57 participants from eleven countries in four continents discussed the status,science challenges and approach to addressing the challenge of utilizing geodetic observations for the monitoring of changes in terrestrial water storage.展开更多
Kitwe,Zambia,October 17-19,2011 Scientific Board of the International Geoscience Programme approved a new IGCP Project 594 entitled“The assessment of the impact of mining and mineral processing on the environment and...Kitwe,Zambia,October 17-19,2011 Scientific Board of the International Geoscience Programme approved a new IGCP Project 594 entitled“The assessment of the impact of mining and mineral processing on the environment and human health in Africa”in 2011.Members of the IGCP 594 held their Inaugural Workshop in Kitwe,Zambia,from October 17-19,2011.The workshop consisted of a day and half of presentations of current scientific results and half day business meeting planning the following year’s work-plan.Afterwards as many as 40 participants joined the one-day field trip to the Copperbelt,where one group visited Mindolo underground Mine in Kitwe,the other group visited the South Ore body Shaft,in Kitwe as well.The workshop was hosted by the University of Zambia and the Copperbelt University.展开更多
