Purpose China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest(CASTIC)has created a better experimental environment for science education than that provided by formal schooling.In order to assess its educational effect,this study examines different talent development models resulting from CASTIC,as well as learning environment and processes it fosters.Design/Approach/Methods This multi-case study sampled teachers and students from different schools that participated in the Shanghai division of CASTIC,and then analyzed the implementation process of CASTIC as well as various models it formed for talent development.Findings This study argues that,by constructing multiple settings for learning involving schools,science clubs,and competitions,CASTIC enables schools to establish diversified talent development models based on process motivation.As structural problems arising from the inadequacy of educational resources for science and technology innovation continue to limit the educational effectiveness of these competitions,a series of curriculum reforms and institutional designs are necessary to fully harness the educational power of science and technology innovation competitions.Originality/Value This study provides an important reference for understanding the talent training mechanism of science competition and exploring its future development. 展开更多

The construction of new agricultural science has put forward the core requirements of"interdisciplinary integration,service industry demand,and cultivation of composite talents"for the smart agriculture major.The"integration of general and specialized education"is the key path to solve the problems of"prominent disciplinary barriers,fragmented knowledge structure,and weak practical ability"in the traditional curriculum system.In this paper,the College of Smart Agriculture from Yulin Normal University is taken as the research object.Based on the characteristics of regional agricultural industry and the positioning of professional education,the prominent problems in the current professional curriculum system of smart agriculture are analyzed,the construction concept of"strong foundation in general education,precise core in professional education,and breaking through boundaries in integrated education"is proposed,and a"three dimensions and four layers"integrated curriculum system framework for general and specialized education is constructed.Moreover,practical exploration is conducted from the aspects of curriculum module design,teaching mode innovation,and guarantee mechanism construction.Practice has shown that this curriculum system effectively enhances students'interdisciplinary application abilities and industry adaptability,and provides a practical sample for the reform of smart agriculture courses in local universities under the background of new agricultural science. 展开更多

The integration of education,technology,and talent is a strategic institutional arrangement for China to build a high-quality education system and achieve innovation-driven development in the new era.As the main platform for cultivating technical and skilled talents,vocational education faces dilemmas such as ambiguous role positioning,conflicting role expectations,and insufficient role capabilities when it comes to the coupling of the three functions of“education-technology-talent”.Based on the analytical framework of role theory and structural functionalism,this paper proposes three paths:clarifying role positioning through the integration of vocational and general education,reconstructing role expectations through the integration of science and education,and enhancing role capabilities through the integration of industry and education.These paths provide theoretical references and practical guidance for optimizing the function of vocational education in the collaborative innovation system. 展开更多

From a cultural perspective, this paper analyses the construction of the academic–research–production–application chain of USTC's quantum information discipline. It also explores the values and implementation schemes adopted in the development of a leading and open scientific research platform and a high-calibre research team. This study focuses on 14 higher vocational colleges in Hainan Province.By collecting data from five dimensions-academic papers,research projects,patents,teacher teaching competitions,and teaching achievement awards-between 2020 and 2023,this research analyses the current status of teaching and research at these 14 higher vocational colleges in Hainan.Also evaluated the teaching and research capabilities of these institutions via the entropy value method.The findings reveal that academic papers of high volume and quality are predominantly found in Hainan’s higher vocational colleges designated as“Double High”institutions,which possess distinct professional characteris-tics.With respect to research projects,Hainan’s higher vocational colleges con-duct scientific research grounded in provincial conditions,with a focus on the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port and key local industries.In terms of patents,Hainan’s higher vocational colleges place greater emphasis on the cultivation of utility model patents.With respect to teaching achievement awards,Hainan has a relatively high selection frequency,with a particular focus on participation from department heads and frontline teachers.In teacher teaching competitions,Hainan’s higher vocational colleges utilize their professional characteristics to develop competition projects centered around clusters of majors.On the basis of the results of the data analysis,recommendations are proposed for transforming research paradigms,building high-quality teaching and research teams,establishing a sustainable teaching and research evaluation system,and implementing categorized management for key and general institutions,providing a basis for enhancing teaching and research capabilities at Hainan’s higher vocational colleges. 展开更多

This study explores the innovation and entrepreneurship education model in medical education under the background of“New Medical Science,”aiming to cultivate interdisciplinary talents that can meet the future healthcare needs.With the advancement of the national innovation strategy,“New Medical Science”emphasizes not only the transmission of professional knowledge but also the development of interdisciplinary integration and innovation capabilities to address the rapid changes in medical technology.A survey was conducted to assess the innovation and entrepreneurship competencies of medical students at Pingdingshan University.The results show that students have a high level of awareness and participation in innovation and entrepreneurship education,yet there is a need to strengthen the integration of skill enhancement with professional knowledge.Based on the survey findings and theoretical foundations of innovation and entrepreneurship,the paper proposes pathways to enhance medical students’innovation and entrepreneurship abilities,focusing on strengthening faculty development,improving the curriculum system,promoting the integration of specialty and entrepreneurship,and optimizing educational models.These efforts aim to cultivate medical professionals with stronger innovation and practical capabilities,contributing to the realization of the“Healthy China”strategy. 展开更多

While chemistry is popular for children of primary school age, its popularity drops dramatically in secondary schools. A potential solution to address this is to recognise the need for greater relevance-relevance to the curriculum, to the needs of society and, in the eyes of the students. The paper tries to puts forward a rethink of the philosophy for school chemistry education, based on the underlying belief that chemistry education is an integral part of education. The target is labelled scientific and technological literacy for all (STL). STL rejects the notion that chemistry is taught solely to acquire the abilities to be a scientist and supports the vision of a single curriculum goal, applicable to all students. Besides being a philosophy, STL is also a teaching approach. This approach is to initiate the teaching of chemistry topics, starting from a carefully chosen society perspective and to introduce the conceptual learning on a need-to-know basis. A limitation is the professional development of teachers. Suggestion for overcoming this involve workshop on materials development. A concern is expressed in cases where teachers make use of ready-made teaching materials (a common practice), without first gaining an understanding and an appreciation of the intended philosophy related to these materials. 展开更多
