Recent studies showed an increase in the prevalence of food insecurity in our country. The aim of this study was to assess how food insecurity affects the dietary habits, socio-demographic characteristics and metabolic profile of individuals with diabetes or hypertension. This case-control study was conducted among diabetic and hypertensive participants (cases) and diabetic and hypertensive normal (controls) during the screening campaigns for nutrition-related chronic diseases. The sociodemographic, clinical and biochemical parameters of the participants were analyzed. Logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with diabetes and hypertension in the study population. Bivariate analyses showed that male gender (OR = 1.972;95% CI: 1.250 - 3.089), regular alcohol consumption (OR = 2.012;95% CI: 1.294 - 3.130), low fruit consumption (OR = 1.590;95% CI: 1.016 - 2.488), low dietary diversity (OR = 2.915;95% CI: 1.658 - 5.127) and abdominal obesity (OR = 1.893, CI 95% 1.203 - 2.978) were significantly associated with hypertension. In addition, low fruit consumption (OR = 1.829;95% CI 1.092 - 3.064), low legume consumption (OR = 3.515;95% CI 1.861 - 6.635), and hypertriglyceridaemia (OR = 2.241, 95% CI 1.139 - 4.408) were significantly associated with diabetes. The indirect association observed between food insecurity and diabetes and hypertension suggests the need for nutritional policies aimed at popularizing the production and consumption of fruits and legumes. Similarly, health services need to be aware and informed of the important role that food insecurity can play in the development of diabetes and hypertension.展开更多

A novel topic about successful communication between the legitimate users, Alice and Bob, is discussed with probability of solution uniqueness of Bob’s decryption equation. We find, by probabilistic analysis, that success of communication between Alice and Bob is probabilistic with a probability bigger than 1/2. It is also novel to define insecurity of the quantum cryptography by probability of solution uniqueness of the search equation of Eve, the eavesdropper. The probability of Eve’s success to find the plain-text of Alice (and Bob) is greater than 1/2, and so the quantum cryptography is seriously insecure.展开更多

METHODS: Participants were 67 patients diagnosed with International Classification of Diseases, Tenth edition AJD with depressed mood, who completed standardised self-report questionnaires measuring study variables. Mean scores and SDs were computed for the outcome and predictor measures. Pearson correlations among the measures were computed. The study hypotheses were tested using analysis of variance(ANOVA) and multiple regression analyses. All analyses were performed using the SPSS-17 software package(SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, United States).RESULTS: ANOVA showed a significant main effect of the insecure attachment styles on depression symptom severity and life satisfaction scores. The results suggestthat depressive symptoms were more severe(F = 4.13, df = 2.67, P < 0.05) and life satisfaction was poorer(F = 5.69, df = 2.67, P < 0.01) in both anxious-ambivalently and avoidantly attached patients compared with their securely attached counterparts, whereas the two insecure groups did not significantly differ by these variables. The anxious/ambivalent attachment style and depression symptom severity significantly contributed to HRQo L, accounting for 21.4% and 29.7% of the total variance, respectively [R2 = 0.79; Adjusted R2 = 0.77; F(5, 67) = 33.68, P < 0.0001], even after controlling for gender, marital and employment status confounders.CONCLUSION: The results show that the anxious/ambivalent attachment style together with depression symptom severity substantially and independently predict the HRQo L outcome in AJD with depressed mood.展开更多

In Tanzania as in most African countries, farming depends almost entirely on rainfall, a situation that makes agriculture and thus rural livelihoods especially in semiarid environments particularly vulnerable to climate change. This study analyses the impacts of climate change and variability on rural livelihoods with particular focus on agricultural production, food security and adaptive capacities in semiarid areas of Tanzania. The methods used in this study included focus group discussions, key informant interviews, household surveys and field observations. Results from the study indicate that communities understood climate change in terms of variability in rainfall patterns and amount, temperature patterns, wind, water availability, increased incidences of drought and decreased agricultural productivity. Communities in the study area acknowledged that while rainfall amounts have decreased over the last thirty years, temperatures have increased;an experience is also supported by meteorological data. Such changes were claimed to have reduced agricultural productivity particularly due to prolonged drought, inadequate and uneven distribution of rainfall as well as unpredictable onset and ending of rains. Stressors such as crop diseases and pests, low soil fertility and inadequate extension services were also reported to contribute to the decline in agricultural productivity and re-occurrence of food insecurity. In response, communities have developed multiple adaptation strategies, including growing of drought tolerant and early maturing crop varieties, increasing wetlands cultivation, water harvesting for small-scale irrigation and livestock keeping. However, households with limited livelihood assets are more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and food insecurity. The study argues that diversification of adaptive strategies, such as water harvesting for small-scale irrigation, integration of livestock and crop production are crucial to ensuring sustainable livelihood in a changing climate.展开更多

The objectives of this study were to determine the Influencing factors on the household food insecurity status. This cross-sectional study conducted on 2500 households selected from Qaresoo region in the northwest of Iran. Household food security status measured by a validated short questionnaire including six questions and other required data (influencing factors) obtained alongside the validated questionnaire. Chisquare and logistic regression used for data analysis using SPSS software. Forty Percent of households suffered from low food insecurity and twenty percent had experienced very low food insecurity. Severity of household food insecurity increased with increasing distance from the city (Exp (B) = 1.05, 95% C.I = 1.03-1.07). It decreased with increasing centers that provides food (Exp (B) = 0.97, 95% C.I = 0.97-0.98) Residential infrastructure (Exp (B) = 0.99, 95% C.I = 0.98-0.99) Family size (Exp (B) = 0.92, 95% C.I = 0.87-0.98) and the presence of both parents in comparison the presence of single parent at home (Exp (B) = 0.46, 95% C.I = 0.32-0.66). Spearman correlation test also showed that mean per capita income had a significant inverse correlation with household food insecurity status. (Correlation coefficient = –0.3, P < 0.05). Socioeconomic factors were affecting the household food insecurity status. More studies seem to be essential in order to provide practical solutions to reduce the severity of food insecurity.展开更多

文摘While the relation between shyness and problematic social media use(PSMU)among adolescents has been established, the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this association remain largely unexplored. The present study examined whether psychological insecurity mediated the association between shyness and adolescents’PSMU and whether this mediation was moderated by relational-interdependent self-construal(RISC).A total of 1506 Chinese adolescents(Mage=13.74 years,SD=0.98)filled out self-report measures of shyness, psychological insecurity,RISC,and PSMU.SPSS(version 23.0)and the PROCESS macro(version 4.1)were employed to test the proposed model.Mediation analyses indicated that psychological insecurity mediated the association between shyness and adolescent PSMU.Furthermore, moderated mediation tests revealed that RISC moderated thefirst half of the mediation path, whereby RISC ameliorated the detrimental effects of shyness on psychological insecurity, consequently reducing the risk of PSMU.The present study provides further evidence on the mediating and moderating mechanisms between shyness and PSMU,which has important implications for the prevention and intervention of PSMU.For adolescents who exhibited pronounced shyness and low levels of RISC,a promising strategy for mitigating their PSMU would be interventions designed to cultivate social skills, alleviate psychological insecurity, and enhance their RISC.

文摘BACKGROUND Food insecurity(FI)during pregnancy negatively impacts maternal health and raises the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)and pregnancy-induced hypertension(PIH),resulting in adverse outcomes for both mother and baby.AIM To investigate the relationships between FI and pregnancy outcomes, particularly GDM and PIH,while also examining the mediating role of the dietary diversity score(DDS).METHODS A cross-sectional study was undertaken to examine this relationship, involving 600 pregnant women.Participants were women aged 18 years or older who provided complete data on FI and pregnancy outcomes. The FI was measured via the Household Food Security Survey Module, with GDM defined as fasting plasma glucose levels of≥5.1 mmol/L or a 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test value of≥8.5 mmol/L.The DDS is determined by evaluating one's food consumption based on nine distinct food groups.A logistic regression model was used to explore the relationship between FI and PIH,and GDM.RESULTS Seventeen percent of participants reported experiencing FI during pregnancy. The study found a significant association between FI and an elevated risk of GDM[odds ratio(OR)=3.32,95%CI:1.2-5.4].Once more,food-insecure pregnant women had higher rates of PIH(OR=0.10,95%CI:0.02-0.45)and they also faced a higher likelihood of neonatal complications, such as neonatal intensive care unit’s admissions and the birth of infants with extremely low birth weight. The FI wasfurther linked to metabolic disruptions, such as elevated fasting blood sugar(FBS),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. Our results indicate that the DDS acts as a significant mediator in the relationship between FI and the incidence of GDM.In particular, the mediation analysis showed that approximately 65%of the effect was mediated through DDS(P=0.002).CONCLUSION These findings underscore the serious challenges that FI presents during pregnancy and its effects on maternal and infant health.Additionally, the study explored how DDS mediates the relationship between FI and the incidence of GDM.

文摘Background Globally, suicide is the third leading cause of death among girls aged 15-19 years. However, there is a growing concern that suicide research has paid lttle attention to pregnant adolescent girls, particularly in lowincome and middle-income countries, including Ghana, where nearly one in seven adolescents experiences(unwanted)pregnancy.Aims To assess the prevalence and correlates of suicidal ideation and suicide attempt and the self-reported reasons for attempted suicide among pregnant adolescent girls in Ghana. Methods We collected cross-sectional data(between August 2022 and December 2023)using structured anonymous questionnaires from a sample of 449 pregnant adolescent girls(aged 14-19 years)drawn from the three geographical zones of Ghana. We applied bivariable and multivariable analysis techniques to the data. Results Overall,28.51%(95%confidence interval(Cl)24.37%to 32.93%)reported suicidal ideation, and 18.04%(95%Cl 14.59%to 21.91%)reported suicide attempt during the current pregnancy.Participants who reported attempted suicide endorsed more interpersonal reasons(eg,to communicate distress,to seek help or to influence others)than intrapersonal reasons for their attempted suicide. In the final adjusted logistic regression models, food insecurity(adjusted odds ratio(aOR)=2.69;95%Cl 1.34 to 5.41;p=0.005)was uniquely associated with increased odds of suicidal ideation.Adverse childhood experiences(a0R=3.04;95%CI 1.33 to 6.97;p=0.008),history of attempted suicide before current pregnancy(a0R=3.47;95%CI 1.27 to 9.47;p=0.015)and depression(measured by the 5-item World Health Organization Well-Being Index;aOR=0.31;95%CI 0.12 to 0.77;p=0.012)were uniquely associated with increased odds of suicide attempt.Five variables were commonly associated with increased odds of both suicidal ideation and suicide attempt:conflict with parents, alcohol use,pregnancy-related anxiety, history of attempted suicide and intimate partner violence. While being in junior high school was uniquely associated with reduced odds of suicidal ideation, intimate partner's acceptance of paternity was commonly associated with reduced odds of both suicidal ideation and suicide attempt. Conclusions Although the prevalence estimates of suicidal ideation and suicide attempt in this study are comparable with known rates among non-pregnant adolescent girls in Ghana, additional research is needed to nuance our understanding of the correlates identified in this study. The evidence aiso highlights a need for both routine antepartum primary care mental health screening for suicidality and related risks and targeted prevention and intervention programmes.

文摘We explored the effects of algorithmic opacity on employees’playing dumb and evasive hiding rather than rationalized hiding. We examined the mediating role of job insecurity and the moderating role of employee-AI collaboration.Participants were 421 full-time employees(female=46.32%,junior employees=31.83%)from a variety of organizations and industries that interact with AI.Employees filled out data on algorithm opacity, job insecurity, knowledge hiding,employee-AI collaboration, and control variables. The results of the structural equation modeling indicated that algorithm opacity exacerbated employees’job insecurity, and job insecurity mediated between algorithm opacity and playing dumb and evasive hiding rather than rationalized hiding. The relationship between algorithmic opacity and playing dumb and evasive hiding was more positive when the level of employee-AI collaboration was higher. These findings suggest that employee-AI collaboration reinforces the indirect relationship between algorithmic opacity and playing dumb and evasive hiding. Our study contributes to research on human and AI collaboration by exploring the dark side of employee-AI collaboration.

文摘As the impact of climate change intensifies, climate migration(climate change-induced migration)has become a pressing global issue that requires effective adaptation strategies to lessen its effects. Therefore, this study delved into the complex relationship between climate change adaptation strategies and climate migration with food insecurity serving as a mediating factor. We collected sample data through face-to-face interviews in Khorramabad City,Iran from February to May in 2023.Using the Structural Equation Modeling(SEM),we explored how food insecurity influences the relationship between climate change adaptation strategies and climate migration. The findings showed that while climate change adaptation strategies can boost community resilience, their success is closely tied to levels of food insecurity.About 78.72%of the surveyed households experienced certain levels of food insecurity, increasing the risk of displacement due to climate-related disasters.Climate change adaptation strategies including economic strategies, irrigation management strategies,organic-oriented strategies, sustainable development-oriented strategies, and crop variety management strategies played a significant role in reducing climate migration. Moreover,we found that climate change adaptation strategies not only impact food security, but also shape migration decisions. This research underscores the importance of an integrated approach that links climate change adaptation strategies, climate migration, and food insecurity. This study emphasizes the importance of food security for formulating sustainable adaptation strategies.
文摘Background:Though the COVID-19 pandemic recedes, and our society gradually returns to normal,Chinese people’s work and lifestyles are still influenced by the“pandemic aftermath”.In the post-pandemic era, employees may feel uncertainty at work due to the changed organizational operations and management and perceive the external environment to be more dynamic. Both these perceptions may increase employees’negative emotions and contribute to conflicts between work and life.Drawing from the ego depletion theory, this study aimed to examine the impact of job insecurity during the post-pandemic era on employees’work-life conflicts, and the mediating effect of workplace anxiety in this relationship.Besides, this study also considered the uncertainty of the external macro environment as a boundary condition on the direct and indirect relationship between job insecurity and work-life conflicts. Methods:A two-wave questionnaire survey was conducted from October to December 2023 to collect data.MBA students and graduates from business school with full-time jobs are invited to report their perception of job insecurity, work anxiety, perceived environment uncertainty, and work-life conflict. This resulted in 253 valid responses.Data analysis was performed using the SPSS,Amos, and PROCESS.Results:The results showed that:(1)Employees’job insecurity would directly intensify the work-life conflict(B=0.275,p<0.001,95%CI[0.182,0.367]).(2)Employees’workplace anxiety mediates the relationship between job insecurity and work-life conflict(B=0.083,p<0.001,95%CI[0.047,0.130]).(3)The mediating effect of workplace anxiety between job insecurity and work-life conflict exists when perceived environmental uncertainty is high(B=0.049,95%CI[0.011,0.114]),while vanishes when perceived environmental uncertainty is low(B=0.024,95%CI[−0.005,0.068]).Conclusion:Job insecurity combined with perceived environmental uncertainty in the postpandemic era fuels employees’workplace anxiety and work-life conflicts.Post-pandemic trauma lingers, necessitating urgent attention and response.
文摘Diabetes and hypertension are the most prevalent cardiovascular risk factors. Similarly, health services need to be aware and informed of the important role that food insecurity can play in the development of diabetes and hypertension.
文摘With the continued increase in the number of people that are food insecure globally, which could be increasing because of the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war, leading to reduction in international agribusinesses, coupled with drastic climate change exacerbating the problem of food insecurity, there is a constant need to come up with innovative approaches to solve this global issue. In this article, we articulated how precision agriculture can be a tool for ensuring food security in the United States. This study aims to reiterate the significance of precision agriculture in solving global food insecurity.

文摘The existing quantum cryptography is a classical cryptography in nature and basically insecure because of its classical (conventional) bits, classical encryption algorithm and classical (public) channel. The probability of Eve’s success to find the plain-text of Alice (and Bob) is greater than 1/2, and so the quantum cryptography is seriously insecure.

文摘AIM: To examine the individual contributions of insecure attachment styles and depression symptom severity to health-related quality of life(HRQo L) in patients diagnosed with adjustment disorder(AJD) with depressed mood. The anxious/ambivalent attachment style and depression symptom severity significantly contributed to HRQo L, accounting for 21.4% and 29.7% of the total variance, respectively [R2 = 0.79; Adjusted R2 = 0.77; F(5, 67) = 33.68, P < 0.0001], even after controlling for gender, marital and employment status confounders.CONCLUSION: The results show that the anxious/ambivalent attachment style together with depression symptom severity substantially and independently predict the HRQo L outcome in AJD with depressed mood.
文摘Climate change is a global challenge to both sustainable livelihoods and economic development. The study argues that diversification of adaptive strategies, such as water harvesting for small-scale irrigation, integration of livestock and crop production are crucial to ensuring sustainable livelihood in a changing climate.
文摘There are a plethora of empirical pieces about employees’pro-environmental behaviors. However, the extant literature has either ignored or not fully examined various factors(e.g.,negative or positive non-green workplace factors)that might affect employees’pro-environmental behaviors.Realizing these voids, the present paper proposes and tests a serial mediation model that examines the interrelationships of job insecurity, emotional exhaustion, met expectations, and proactive pro-environmental behavior. We used data gathered from hotel customer-contact employees with a time lag of one week and their direct supervisors in China. After presenting support for the psychometric properties of the measures via confirmatory analysis in LISREL 8.30,the abovementioned linkages were gauged using the PROCESS plug-in for statistical package for social sciences. The findings delineated support for the hypothesized associations.Specifically, emotional exhaustion and met expectations partly mediated the effect of job insecurity on proactive pro-environmental behavior.More importantly, emotional exhaustion and met expectations serially mediated the influence of job insecurity on proactive pro-environmental behavior. These findings have important theoretical implications as well as significant implications for diminishing job insecurity, managing emotional exhaustion, increasing met expectations, and enhancing ecofriendly behaviors.
文摘Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, impaired physical and mental development and reduced productivity. More studies seem to be essential in order to provide practical solutions to reduce the severity of food insecurity.
