The intermediary roles of the two types of knowledge spillover( explicit and implicit) in GVC embeddedness and clustered firms' innovation are considered, and the effects of structure embeddedness, relationship embeddedness, and acknowledgement embeddedness on clustered firms' innovation are examined. Analysis is based on the sample of 134 export-oriented firms from the Shaoxing industrial cluster in Zhejiang province of China. Results show that although GVC embeddedness is associated with high use of external knowledge sources, clustered firms' innovation is promoted indirectly through explicit knowledge spillover. Intrinsic connections exist among the different dimensions of GVC embeddedness, that is,structure embeddedness not only directly improves relationship embeddedness but also indirectly improves acknowledgement embeddedness through relationship embeddedness.展开更多

In addition to previous research on the relationship between team structure and innovation performance, this study draws from an interesting experience-based theory advanced by Kelley and Littman (2005), which examines teams from design thinking perspective, and tests its contributions and effects on team's innovation performance. According to Kelley and Littman any team should include the following team roles: The anthropologist, the experimenter, the cross-pollinator, the hurdler, the collaborator, the director, the experience architect, the set designer, the storyteller, and the caregiver. We develop theoretical logics to explain how team structure that includes these key team roles and competences lead to a better innovation performance, and propose pertinent hypotheses. Experimental-empirical research and quantitative analysis were used in the study. The study conducted multiple experiments on three samples: a group of foreign entrepreneurship students, a group of technical students, and an additional group of randomly selected individuals, aged between 20 and 58, with diverse backgrounds. A special approach was implemented and a new instrument was developed to evaluate individuals in teams. While the results show that team that possess the major competences proposed by Kelley and Littman are more innovative, preliminary results also show that not all team roles are equally important. Moreover, team roles should be allocated equally among members for better collaboration, member satisfaction, and quick response, and within one team, one prevailing personality is optimal in terms of innovativeness. We discuss the implications of our findings for future research and managerial practice.展开更多

This study finds considerable divergence among Chinese domestic enterprises in terms of R&D intensity and innovation performance. Firms owned by the central government are the key drivers for firms' R&D activities, while local government, private and foreign ownerships are negatively related to both R&D intensity and innovation performance. Significant divergence within government ownership category and argues that China's institutional changes generate varied government ownership groups with different levels of resource endowment, which in turn influence firms' R&D activities.展开更多

This paper builds up a theoretical framework of the relationship between organizational ambidexterity and innovation performance with regards to corporate entrepreneurship orientation. We select 175 companies from high and new technology industries in China's three large cities, Beijing, Tianjin and Dalian, as samples to carry out an empirical test. We find that the balance and complement of organizational ambidexterity are positively correlated with the innovation performance of enterprises; a corporate entrepreneurial orientation has a significantly moderating effect on the relationship between the balance dimension of organizational ambidexterity and innovation performance, yet it has no significant positive moderating effect on the relationship between the combined dimension oforganizational ambidexterity and innovation performance.展开更多

文摘Purpose:This study explores the combined effects of structural and relational embeddedness within alliance networks on firm innovation.By focusing on the interplay between network structures and relationships, this study provides a nonlinear framework to unravel the complex dynamics between alliance networks and firm innovation performance within the manufacturing industry.Design/methodology/approach:Using social network analysis, this study examines the topological structure of firms’alliance networks. An exploratory approach involving K-Means clustering and decision tree methods is employed to identify heterogeneous network types within the alliance networks. The analysis further explores the nonlinear relationships between network characteristics, including closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, clustering coefficient, and relational attributes, including collaboration intensity and breadth, and their combined influence on firm innovation.Findings:The study identified four distinct heterogeneous network types:dyadic, star, ringlike, and complex networks. Each type reveals unique network characteristics and their impact on innovation performance.Key decision rules were extracted, showing that strong relational embeddedness can hinder innovation in dyadic networks, while a greater distance from the central firm correlates with higher innovation performance in star alliance networks. For ringlike alliance networks, moderate cooperation intensity is beneficial for innovation when the clustering coefficient is not high.In complex alliance networks, the combined effects of cooperation intensity, breadth, and clustering coefficient significantly influence innovation.Research limitations:The research presented in this study, while offering valuable insights into the relationship between alliance networks and firm innovation within the manufacturing sector,is subject to several limitations.A focus on the manufacturing industry may restrict the generalizability of our findings to other sectors, where the dynamics of innovation and collaboration might differ significantly.Additionally, our reliance on patent data, while providing a quantifiable measure of innovation, may overlook other forms of innovation that are equally critical in different contexts, such as service innovations or business model transformations.Practical implications:This research offers significant insights into how firms can leverage both network structure and relational aspects to enhance innovation outcomes.By revealing the nonlinear and complex interactions between network embeddedness dimensions, this study makes a valuable contribution to both theory and practice. This highlights that strategic management of both structural and relational embeddedness can foster superior innovation performance, offering firms a competitive advantage by optimizing their alliance network configurations.Originality/value:This study’s originality lies in its examination of the combined effects of structural and relational network embeddings on innovation performance.By identifying distinct network types and their impact on innovation, this study advances the theoretical understanding of how network characteristics interact to shape firm innovation. It contributes to the literature by offering a novel, multidimensional framework that integrates social network theory and resource-based view, providing new insights for firms to leverage their network positions and relationships for competitive advantage.
文摘Objective To study the importance of digital economy to promote the innovation development of enterprises under the background of the era of information technology reform. Methods The maximum entropy method was used to measure the comprehensive level of digital economy development at provincial level.Besides, the impact of digital economy on the innovation performance of pharmaceutical industry was investigated empirically by using A-share pharmaceutical companies listed in China from 2013 to 2020 as a research sample, and the mediating mechanism of R&D investment and financing constraints on the impact was examined. Results and Conclusion It is found that digital economy is significantly and positively related to the innovation performance of enterprises. The mechanism test shows that digital economy improves innovation performance through the expansion effect of R&D investment and alleviating financing constraints. In the context that digital economy has become a new driving force for enterprise innovation, the combination of digital economy and real economy should be actively promoted,R&D investment in pharmaceutical enterprises should be increased, and financing channels should be broadened.

文摘This paper examines the effects of ownership types on firms' R&D intensity and innovation performance, using a sample of 357,857 Chinese firms from 2005-2007. This study finds considerable divergence among Chinese domestic enterprises in terms of R&D intensity and innovation performance. Firms owned by the central government are the key drivers for firms' R&D activities, while local government, private and foreign ownerships are negatively related to both R&D intensity and innovation performance. Significant divergence within government ownership category and argues that China's institutional changes generate varied government ownership groups with different levels of resource endowment, which in turn influence firms' R&D activities.
文摘Innovative leadership and innovation-oriented human resource management practices(HRMPs)are soft and hard measures, respectively, that promote team innovation performance(TIP).This study is based on human capital theory, integrating the leadership process model and the content-process-results framework of HRM(HRM-CPO),and using data from 259 teams and 1,278 employees in leader-subordinate pairs. Results show that team human capital(THC)is an important mediator in explaining the impact of introducing innovation-oriented practices on TIP.In addition, innovative leadership can improve THC by increasing the level of implemented innovation-oriented HRMPs,thereby affecting TIP.The study extends the level at which HRMPs and leadership behaviors work together and responds to the call for integration of two major research fields of HRM and leadership behavior.
文摘In this paper,a theoretical frame on how the IT investment influences the innovation performance of enterprise is set up,and the data of Chinese industrial listed companies is used to conduct an empirical test. The study shows that IT investment can improve the innovation performance of enterprises on the whole, but there is heterogeneity among different types of enterprises.Specifically,IT investment of low-innovation strategy-oriented enterprises has a stronger effect on innovation performance than high-innovation strategy-oriented enterprises;IT investment of large enterprises has a more significant effect on innovation performance;and IT investment of state-owned enterprises has a stronger effect on innovation performance than that of non-state-owned enterprises. These conclusions not only provide microscopic evidence for the promotion of innovation performance by IT investment of industrial enterprises, but also have important policy implications for the integration of informatization and industrialization and the construction of a digital China.

文摘The influence of organizational ambidexterity on innovation and the growth of enterprises has gradually become an important research topic in the field of strategic management and organization theory. We find that the balance and complement of organizational ambidexterity are positively correlated with the innovation performance of enterprises; a corporate entrepreneurial orientation has a significantly moderating effect on the relationship between the balance dimension of organizational ambidexterity and innovation performance, yet it has no significant positive moderating effect on the relationship between the combined dimension oforganizational ambidexterity and innovation performance.
