Determining the location of a user relative to its physical environment is an important part of many indoor-based navigation services such as user navigation, enhanced 911 (E911), law enforcement, location-based and marketing services. Indoor navigation applications require a reliable, trustful and continuous navigation solution that overcomes the challenge of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal unavailability. To compensate for this issue, other navigation systems such as Inertial Navigation System (INS) are introduced, however, over time there is a significant amount of drift especially in common with low-cost commercial sensors. In this paper, a map aided navigation solution is developed. This research develops an aiding system that utilizes geospatial data to assist the navigation solution by providing virtual boundaries for the navigation trajectories and limits its possibilities only when it is logical to locate the user on a map. The algorithm develops a Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) based on smart-phone accelerometer and magnetometer sensors to provide the navigation solution. Geospatial model for two indoor environments with a developed map matching algorithm was used to match and project navigation position estimates on the geospatial map. The developed algorithms were field tested in indoor environments and yielded accurate matching results as well as a significant enhancement to positional accuracy. The achieved results demonstrate that the contribution of the developed map aided system enhances the reliability, usability, and accuracy of navigation trajectories in indoor environments.展开更多

Most traditional technologies usually first deploy a number of reference nodes which are able to communicate with each other, then select only some wireless links, whose signals are affected the most by the transceiver-free target, to estimate the target position. However, such traditional technologies adopt an ideal model for the target, the other link information and environment interference behavior are not considered comprehensively. In order to overcome this drawback, we propose a method which is able to precisely estimate the transceiver-free target position. It not only can leverage more link information, but also take environmental interference into account. Two algorithms are proposed in our system, one is Best K-Nearest Neighbor(KNN) algorithm, the other is Support Vector Regression(SVR) algorithm. Our experiments are based on Telos B sensor nodes and performed in different complex lab areas which have many different furniture and equipment. The experiment results show that the average localization error is round 1.1m. Compared with traditional methods, the localization accuracy is increased nearly two times.展开更多

The exposure time was 3 months, in microclimate condition of constant temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and no airflow. After these 3 months, all the detectors were chemically etched in KOH 6.25 M solution at 60°C ± 1°C for 18 hours, following a very well established protocol for indoor radon survey by the Dosimetry Applications Laboratory of the Physics Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and later read automatically by CADIS (Counting Automatically Digital Image System). The results show that each one of the nine measured planes is not homogeneous presenting important differences of indoor radon concentration values. Specifically, the Radon (220Rn and 222Rn) concentration levels vary for each measured point within the cellar. It is a very important observation to consider for the calculation of dose and radiological risk.展开更多

A new positioning algorithm and a new processing method for sampled data are proposed. Firstly, a positioning algorithm is designed based on the cluster-based nearest neighbour or probability. Secondly, a weighted average method with sliding window is used to process the sampled data as to overcome the mobile devices’ weak capability of signal sampling. Experimental results show that, for the general mobile devices, the accuracy of indoor position estimation increases from 56.5% to 76.6% for a 2-meter precision, and from 77.4% to 90.9% for a 3-meter precision. Therefore, the proposed methods can significantly and stably improve the positioning accuracy.展开更多
