A discussion is made about the effects on the incoherent scatter spectra caused by different values of the normalized perpendicular drift velocity D, aspect angle Φ between the magnetic field and the line-of-sight direction, and the ratio α of the ion-neutral collision to ion cyclotron frequency. Numerical results show that the shifting and asymmetry of incoherent scatter spectra appear parallel to E × B and E as the normalized perpendicular drift velocity D increases due to the ion drift velocity, the stress tensor and the heat flow vector respectively. However, the spectrum is always typically double-humped Maxwellian parallel to B. The ion velocity distribution is more distorted from the Maxwellian as the aspect angle Φ increases from 0° to 90°, and consequently the incoherent scatter spectra is no longer typically double-humped Maxwellian. Asαincreases, the ion velocity distribution becomes Maxwellian and the incoherent scatter spectra become typically double-humped Maxwellian even with a large value of the normalized perpendicular drift velocity D. It is reasonable to use the sixteen-moment approximation to describe the non-Maxwellian plasma characterized by the large temperature anisotropy.展开更多

[Method] In the research, based on a coherent scattering model (Stile), we proposed a coherent scattering model exclusive for corn, in which, physical optics (PO) and infinite-length dielectric cylinder were used to calculate single-scattering matrices of corn leaves and stalks. In addition, coherent components produced from interaction among the scattering mechanisms were also considered and this coherent model was compared with the Michigan Mi- crowave Canopy Scattering (MIMICS) model. The measured data in a corn filed in Gongzhuling in Jilin Province were used as the input parameters of the coherent and incoherent models. We simulated backscattering coefficients of VV and HH po- larization at L and C bands and made a comparison between the simulation results. [Result] The simulation results at L-band were poor, which indicated that we could not find regularity at early growth stage of vegetation. In addition, comparisons be- tween coherent and incoherent scattering models proved that the coherence triggered by the scattering mechanism was small. [Conclusion] In the research, we analyzed differences between coherent and incoherent scattering models with change of incident angle, and further analysis on the differences with change of vegetation and soil needed to be made in future.展开更多

When pump is operating slightly above the fifth electron gyrofrequency, some strong enhancements in radar echo and electron density occur in a wide altitude range and are in sync with the shifting and spread of plasma line around the reflection altitude, which may be due to the focusing or collimating of radar wave by irregularities. While some strong enhancements in electron density and radar echo around the reflection altitude do not correspond to the true increase in electron density, but due to the enhanced ion acoustic wave by parametric decay instability and oscillation two stream instability. In addition, the different heating rates and cooling rates at the pump frequencies below, around and above fifth gyrofrequency respectively result in the dependence of the enhancements in electron temperature on the pump frequency.展开更多

The enhancement extended over a wide range of altitudes, above the reflection altitude of the high-frequency pump wave. However, whether this enhancement actually corresponds to a true enhancement in electron density remains an open question. When the dispersion relation of ion acoustic waves is followed, the frequency ratio of the enhanced ion line to the background ion line suggests that the profile of the effective ion mass may have remained unchanged. Furthermore, the solar radio flux and ion drift velocity indicate no significant changes in the ion species and their densities. In conclusion, the electron density enhancement observed at EISCAT should not, in fact, be considered a true enhancement.展开更多

The troughs in our observations are found to appear mainly in dusk sector, extending from late afternoon to pre-midnight, with higher occurrence rate during equinox and winter. Simultaneous ion drift velocity inF-region shows that the main trough minimum is mostly located at the equator ward edge of the plasma convection flow, rather than in the region where the largest ion flow are observed.展开更多

There are two types of increases in electron temperature: large relative increases in a narrow range near 150 km and greater absolute increases in a wider range at 150-400 km. The percentage increase in temperature linearly increases with heating power, but the rate of increase decreases with increasing pump frequency. A clear two-dimensional distribution was found for the measurement made on August 15, and the beating effects are greater closer to the direction of the geomagnetic field. The heating effects obviously depend on the angle between the heating beam and geomagnetic field; as the angle increases, the heating effect decreases.展开更多

Taking into account the intermolecular interactions, we can indeed simulate the features of the experimental results very well for L-serine zwitterions in its solid state. The vibrational spectrum of L-serine performed by DFT was in excellent agreement with our previous inelastic incoherent neutron scattering spectra measured at 20K for L-serine in the 10-200meV region on HET spectrometers at ISIS, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.展开更多
