This study looks at how professional interpreters handle linguistic uncertainty in English-Chinese sight translation, with a focus on the strategies they use. By analyzing transcription data alongside instructor evaluations, we found that interpreters relied most on creative interpretation and omission, while strategies like paraphrasing, simplification, transformation, addition, and generalization appeared less often. The results show a clear preference for strategies that keep communication flowing without adding unnecessary cognitive load. These findings support the Processing Economy Hypothesis, which suggests interpreters naturally seek efficient ways to process language while maintaining meaning. In the enterprise setting, earnings conference call remains a rarely explored field. This thesis offers a descriptive study on assessing interpreting quality from perspectives of fidelity, fluency, and appropriacy. As the corpus, Tencent 2022 Third Quarter Result Announcement provides an ideal transcript to the author to conduct its analysis. Interpreting is frequently done without bearing in mind the multitude of factors that can affect the quality of interpreting. Drawing a conclusion that the interpreter does make a lot of omissions, pauses and hesitations posing a negative effect on the fidelity, fluency and accuracy of the interpreting, the present author suggests that more preparation should be done for improving performance, such as terminologies, company background information, a reasonable speech rate, good image and acoustic quality, and so on.展开更多

Research has shown that interpreting anxiety, as the biggest emotional obstacle in the interpreting process, is the main emotional factor that leads to individual differences in interpreting. Students often claim to have fear or anxiety behaviors in interpreting exams, interpreting competitions, and interpreting classes. However, the research on interpreting teaching attaches importance to the cultivation of language knowledge, cultural knowledge, and interpreting skills, and does not pay enough attention to emotional factors such as motivation and anxiety in interpreting learning, which makes it difficult for the cultivated interpreters to meet the requirements of professional practice. In recent years, virtual reality technology (VR) has been gradually applied in the field of foreign language and interpreting teaching for creating a real, interactive and experiential language learning environment. Situated Learning Theory stresses that the fundamental mechanism for learning to take place is for individuals to participate in the real context in which knowledge is generated, and to realize the construction of knowledge through the interaction with the community of practice and the environment. Virtual reality technology can satisfy the needs of language learners for real contexts by providing learners with immersive, imaginative and interactive scenario simulations, and has a certain positive effect on alleviating learning anxiety. Therefore, relying on the virtual simulation course “United Nations Kubuqi International Desert Ecological Science and Technology Innovation International Volunteer Language Service Practical Training System”, this paper adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative analyses to investigate the interpretation anxiety level of the interpreter trainees and the factors affecting them in the VR situation to help them discover effective responses to interpreter anxiety.展开更多

Conventional wisdom long holds that by inserting or removing the second beam splitter (BS2) in a controllable way, microscopic particles (photons, electrons, etc.) transporting within the MZI can lie in the quantum superposition of the wave and particle state as ψ= aw ψ wave + ap ψ particle. Here we present an alternative interpretation to these delayed-choice experiments. We notice that as the BS2 is purely classical, the inserting and removing operation of the BS2 imposes a time- modulated Hamiltonian H mod (t) = a(t)Hin + b(t)Hout, instead of a quantum superposition of H in and Hour as H = awHin + apHout, to act upon the incident wave function. Solution of this quantum scattering problem, rather than the long held quantum eigen-problem yields a synchronically time-modulated output wave function as ψ mod (t) = a(t) ψ wave +b(t) ψ particle, instead of the stationary quantum superposition state ψ = aw ψ wave + ap ψ particle. As a result, the probability of particle output from the MZI behaves as if they are in the superposition of the wave and particle state when many events over time accumulation are counted and averaged. We expect that these elementary but insightful analyses will shed a new light on exploring basic physics beyond the long-held wisdom of wave-particle duality and the principle of complementarity.展开更多

文摘The aim of this study is to examine the small-world properties of functional brain networks inChinese to English simultaneous interpreting(SI)using functional near-infrared spectroscopy(INIRS),In particular, the fNIRS neuroimaging combined with complex network analysis wasperformed to extract the features of functional brain networks underling three translationstrategies associated with Chinese to English SI:"transcoding"that takes the"shortcut"linkingtranslation equivalents between Chinese and the English,code-mixing"that basically does notinvolve blingual procesing, and"transphrasingn that takes the long route"involving amonolingual processing of meaning in Chinese and then another monolingual processing ofmeaning in English. Our results demonstrated that the small-world net work topology was able todistinguish well bet ween the transcoding,code-mixing and transphrasing strategies related toChinese to English SI.
文摘This paper discusses the implementation of self-assessment in consecutive interpreting among novice learners in a non-interpreting environment specifically referring to the interpreting courses offered at USM (Universiti Sains Malaysia), being the only bachelor's degree programme in Translation and Interpreting in Malaysia, and the learners' perception on this mode of assessment with the goal of fostering learner autonomy among them. Such implementation was made possible with the shift from analogue technology to digital technology, the deployment of e-learning in the course instruction, and the shift from teacher-centred learning approach to student-centred learning approach in line with the university's APEX (Accelerated Programme for Excellence) transformation plan. Findings show a high acceptance level of self-assessment among novice learners of interpreting
文摘Since the Master of Translation and Interpreting has been established under the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Chinese Ministry of Education, translation discipline stepped into a rapid development period in China as well as the research of interpreting studies. This paper aimed at providing a brief introduction of the current situation and existing problems of English interpreting studies in Three Northeastern Provinces of China under the comparative analysis of literature in CNKI China Academic Journal Network Publishing Database from 2004 to 2013.
