In the current field of action of the pedagogy of languages, efficient, inclusive and dynamic teaching methods are needed; just this work will present the intercultural method through didactic evidences (pedagogical sequences) that have proved their functionality in the teaching rooms of the English in a Spanish-speaking context, as is Mexico. Without forgetting that interculturality is defined according to Cassany (2016) as an ideological current that is that each language of the world is a representative tool at the service of a culture and that said culture in a society is a mental and attitudinal representation to the world where a certain society is based. Then interculturality seeks to develop intercultural skills in the users of languages (Anglo-Hispanic). 展开更多

Conceptualizations of empathy have been most fully developed in a variety of fields in recent years. Many approaches to empathy dwell on the cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects, the intra-psychic processes that cause one to feel emotions more like those of another, rather than the interpersonal functions of empathy, which may be influenced by the variables during the communication process. Therefore, this study designed and implemented a virtual ethnographic intercultural project between Chinese and American university students with WeChat as the main social medium. The whole process included three phases:exploring the unique cultural experiences of Chinese and American students, seeking an empathy based on commonality and seeking a relational empathy,a form of harmonization and integration through interactive and continuous intercultural dialogues.During the process, the method of discourse-centered online ethnography(DCOE)was employed, which involved systematic observation and interaction with WeChat users. We used the collective data to analyze how relational empathy was developed through understanding cultural differences, seeking similarities, and creating a third culture by engaging students in a substantial and dynamic natural and interactive setting. The study shows that the most challenging process to nurture relational empathy is to move from Phases One and Two to Phase Three, during which, some strategies to build relational empathy need to be taught and practiced in a specific cultural setting. In conclusion, virtual ethnographic intercultural teaching is an effective approach to offer students a long-term intercultural dialogue and insight into developing shared meaning,or dynamic relational empathy with culturally different others. 展开更多

The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence(GenAI)is profoundly changing the form and paradigm of foreign language education.GenAI technology, represented by DeepSeek, provides technical support for personalization, immersion, and intelligence of foreign language teaching by virtue of its natural language processing, multimodal content generation, and cross-cultural simulation capabilities. From the three dimensions of“teaching reconstruction,”“learning innovation,”and“education upgrading,”this paper systematically analyzes the internal mechanism of GenAI empowering foreign language education and reveals its unique value in language knowledge transmission, skill training, and cultural understanding. At the same time, considering that GenAI may lead to language model errors in foreign language education, cultural misinterpretations, technological dependence, and data privacy risks,it is proposed to adopt coping strategies such as building an advanced literacy system, establishing a human-AI collaborative ecosystem, and implementing a transparent regulatory framework for algorithms. These measures aim to ensure the high-quality development of technology-integrated foreign language education, providing both theoretical support and practical pathways for cultivating globally competent talents with intercultural communication skills and digital literacy. 展开更多

In the contemporary era of globalization,English has evolved into a multifaceted tool for intercultural communication, transcending its traditional boundaries. This paper explores the shifting paradigms in English language teaching(ELT),moving away from the pursuit of native-like competence towards a more pragmatic focus on communicative proficiency in English as a Lingua Franca(ELF).Through an examination of global English varieties and ELT goals, the paper argues for a pedagogical approach that embraces linguistic diversity and prioritizes effective communication over conformity to native norms.Drawing on insights from ELF research and communicative language teaching methodologies,it advocates for empowering learners with the skills to navigate diverse linguistic contexts and engage in meaningful interactions with speakers from diverse cultural backgrounds. 展开更多

This study adopts a communication studies perspective, employing Lasswell’s“5W”model as the theoretical framework and integrating the“6W”elements of translation communication to systematically examine the translation and dissemination model of the English version of Mo Yan’s novel“Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out,”translated by Howard Goldblatt.By analyzing key elements such as communication content, translator strategies, dissemination channels, and reader reception, the study elucidates the intrinsic mechanisms behind the work’s successful overseas dissemination. The findings reveal that effective communication stems from the synergistic interplay of four dimensions:the intercultural adaptability of the work itself, the translator’s agential mediation, diversified dissemination channels, and reader-oriented translation strategies. This research provides theoretical and practical insights for promoting Chinese literature globally, demonstrating that successful intercultural communication requires an integrated approach encompassing the work, translator, channels, and reader research. 展开更多

With the rapid expansion of Confucius Institutes globally, the Hanban launched a Volunteer Chinese Teachers(VCT)Program with the purpose of selecting a large number of college graduates and graduate students from Chinese universities to fill vacancies for overseas Chinese teachers. In spite of the multitude of students participating in the program, there has been a paucity of research attention on them. How do these students, most of whom have never been abroad before, manage their life in their host country and negotiate their new role as a VCT in an overseas Confucius Institute? What are their intercultural experiences as they venture into a new country to serve as a native teacher of Chinese?Based on in-depth interviews with a dozen VCTs teaching in linguistically and culturally different contexts, this study seeks to examine the dynamics of interculturality, identity and power relations involved in their overseas language teaching. 展开更多

In recent years,Francophone schools in Alberta,a province in western Canada, have seen significant ethnocultural diversification of their school population, thus reflecting recent migratory changes in Canada. The population of a Francophone school board located in an agglomeration of Alberta reflects these new migratory trends.A partial ethnodemographic portrait carried out in 2003 in six of its schools indicates that 50%of the pupils come from an immigrant background and come from 23 different countries;mostly from sub-Saharan African countries. This demographic reality, confirmed more than a decade later, represents a major structural change for Francophone schools. In Alberta,as in other Canadian provinces, inclusion is at the heart of discourse and educational practices. With a transformative aim,it intends to promote ethnocultural diversity in the classroom and equal opportunities through school equity practices. This article focuses on the settlement workers in schools responsible for bridging family, community, and school cultures. The analysis of the interviews of the four workers sheds light on and questions both the institutional practices and the personal strategies put in place to face the challenges encountered in this tripartite collaboration. 展开更多

The relationship between language and culture is the core issue in intercultural communication. For native language learners, their native language and local culture are in perfect harmony;while for foreign language learners, they often unconsciously separate the two, resulting in the phenomenon of“half-cooked rice”in foreign language education. This phenomenon makes us reflect on the purpose, content, and methods of foreign language education and seek theoretical guidance.Foreign language teaching aims to improve intercultural competencies,so it must face language and culture in intercultural communication. As a branch of cultural linguistics with multidisciplinary origins, intercultural linguistics focuses on the relationship between language and culture in intercultural communication. In the process of exploring how to apply linguistic theories in second language acquisition,it shows that intercultural linguistics not only has important enlightenment and application value, but also needs further studies. 展开更多
