From a dialectical materialistic point of view the physical character of geographical environment of the earth surface is the unity in diversity. It is on such grounds that the two basic characteristics were put forth by the author in his monograph 'Physical Structure of South American Geographical Environment' as the underlying theme. This holds true for the hierarchy of physical regions. For instance, the physical environment of the earth surface in unity behaves as a huge whole, yet, in differentiation into continents, it displays disparity; each continent differs from others and becomes an integrity in its own right. The same is true of regions of lower levels. In the case of generality and individuality of regional types and their constituent distributive areas in different continents, the same relationship exists among them. Owing to similar origin展开更多

Previous studies of how social variation influenced individuality focused on colonial or non-colonial avian species, and how so- cial group size influenced individuality in sciurid rodents. Since sociality is an important driver of individuality, we expected that bird species that defend nesting territories in higher density neighborhoods should have more individually-distinctive calls than those that defend nesting territories in lower-density neighborhoods. We used Beecher's information statistic to quantify individu- ality, and we examined the relationship between bird density (calculated with point-counts) and vocal individuality on seven spe- cies of passerines. We found non-significant relationships between breeding bird density and vocal individuality whether regres- sions were fitted on species values, or on phylogenetically-independent contrast values. From these results, we infer that while in- dividuality may be explained by social factors, breeding bird density is unlikely to be generally important in driving the evolution of individually-specific vocalizations [Current Zoology 58 (5): 765-772, 2012].展开更多

In this research, we compared the within-and between-individual variation in cuckoo calls using two different analytical methods, and discuss the feasibility of using call individuality to count male cuckoos within a population. Methods: We recorded vocalization from 13 males, and measured 15 spectro-temporal variables for each call. The majority of these call variables(n = 12) have greater variation between individuals than within individual. We first calculated the similarity(Pearson's R) for each paired calls in order to find a threshold that could distinguish calls emitted from the same or different males, and then counted the number of males based on this distinction. Second, we used the more widely accepted technique of discriminant function analysis(DFA) to identify individual male cuckoos, and compared the correct rate of classifying individuals between the two analytical methods. Results: Similarity of paired calls from the same male was significantly higher than from different males. Under a relatively broad threshold interval, we achieved a high(>90%) correct rate to distinguish calls and an accurate estimate of male numbers. Based on banded males(n = 3), we found the similarity of paired calls from different days was lower when compared with paired calls from the same day, but this change did not obscure individual identification, as similarity values of paired calls from different days were still larger than the threshold used to distinguish calls from the same or different males. DFA also yielded a high rate(91.9%) of correct classification of individuals. Conclusions: Our study suggests that identifying individual vocalizations can form the basis of an appropriate survey method for counting male cuckoos within a population, provided the performance of different analytical techniques are compared.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Perioperative anesthesia management of obese patients presents significant challenges as traditional total body weight-based dosing fails to achieve optimal anesthetic effects due to altered pharmacokinetic characteristics including abnormal drug distribution and clearance.Rocuronium exhibits markedly different distribution patterns in obese patients, with conventional weight correction methods inadequately addressing individual muscle mass variations that critically influence drug distribution.AIM To investigate the quantitative relationship between skeletal muscle index(SMI)and rocuronium distribution volume in obese colorectal cancer patients, establish a population pharmacokinetic model, and develop individualized dosing strategies based on muscle mass.METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted, including 100 obese patients(body mass index≥30 kg/m^(2))who underwent elective radical colorectal cancer surgery at our hospital from June 2023 to January 2025.Skeletal muscle mass was measured using InBody 260 body composition analyzer and SMI was calculated to assess muscle mass, with male SMI<7.0 kg/m^(2) and female SMI<5.7 kg/m^(2)as diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia.Plasma rocuronium concentrations were detected by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry, and nonlinear mixed-effect modeling was used to establish population pharmacokinetic modeling.Stepwise regression was used to screen covariates, and dosing regimens were optimized through Monte Carlo simulation. The primary endpoint was targeted plasma concentration achievement rate, and the secondary endpoint was postoperative residual muscle relaxation incidence.RESULTS Among 100 patients,35(35.0%)had sarcopenia and 65(65.0%)did not.Patients in the sarcopenia group were older(64.1±9.8 years vs 54.2±10.9 years,P<0.001)and had significantly lower SMI(6.2±0.8 kg/m^(2)vs 8.4±1.2 kg/m^(2),P<0.001).SMI showed strong positive correlation with rocuronium steady-state distribution volume(r=0.718,P<0.001)and moderate negative correlation with clearance(r=-0.502,P<0.001).A two-compartment population pharmacokinetic model was successfully established, with SMI being the most important covariate affecting central compartment distribution volume(△OFV=-41.2,P<0.001).Model validation showed bootstrap successful convergence rate of 92.3%,and 92.1%of observed values fell within prediction intervals in predicted concentration versus predicted concentration. The SMI-based individualized dosing regimen improved target exposure achievement rate from 82.0%in traditional regimen to 93.5%(P=0.009),and reduced postoperative residual muscle relaxation incidence from 13.0%to 3.5%(P=0.018).The sarcopenia group showed the most significant improvement in achievement rate, from 71.4%to 93.8%(P=0.017).CONCLUSION SMI shows strong correlation with rocuronium distribution volume in obese colorectal cancer patients and is a key factor affecting drug distribution.SMI-based individualized dosing strategies can significantly improve target exposure achievement rate and reduce postoperative residual muscle relaxation incidence, providing scientific evidence for precision anesthesia management in obese patients.

文摘Objectives:Although standardized residency trainees are at high risk for depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation, the psychological pathways connecting depression and anxiety to suicidal ideation, especially the moderating role of resilience, remain elusive. This study aimed to examine the associations between depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation among physicians undergoing standardized residency training, and to investigate the moderating roles of different dimensions of individual resilience, namely tenacity, strength, and optimism. Methods:A convenience sampling method was adopted to recruit 133 resident physicians.Validated instruments assessing individual resilience, depressive symptoms, anxiety levels, and suicidal ideation were administered.Spearman correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationships among the variables.Hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to assess the moderating roles of tenacity, strength, and optimism in the associations between depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Results:Depressive symptoms and anxiety levels were both positively associated with suicidal ideation(p<0.001).All three resilience dimensions were negatively correlated with suicidal ideation(tenacity:r=−0.504,strength:r=−0.477,optimism:r=−0.440,all p<0.001).Tenacity,strength,and optimism significantly moderated the associations between depression and suicidal ideation(all p<0.05).When resilience levels in these dimensions were high, the associations between depression and suicidal ideation were weaker.Strength and optimism also moderated the associations between anxiety and suicidal ideation(strength:p=0.028,optimism:p=0.028).When the resiliences(strength and optimism)were high, the associations between anxiety and suicidal ideation were weaker. Conclusion:Individual resilience, particularly in the dimensions of tenacity, strength, and optimism, may serve as protective correlates for physicians in training, being associated with weaker relationships between depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. These findings highlight the potential value of resilience-enhancing strategies in clinical training settings, although causal inferences cannot be drawn due to the cross-sectional design.

文摘Background:Exposure to environmental vulnerability poses significant threats to adolescent suicidal ideation, while individual resilience can mitigate these adverse effects with notable gender commonalities and differences. However, research examining how these factors co-configure at the individual level remains limited, particularly from a gender-specific perspective. Thus, the present study aims to adopt a person-centered analytic approach to identify gender-specific configurations of environmental vulnerability and individual resilience associated with suicidal ideation among Chinese adolescents. Methods:Data were collected from 2616 Chinese primary and secondary school students(aged 10–17;1223 girls).Participants completed validated scales measuring environmental vulnerability, individual resilience, and suicidal ideation.Latent profile analysis(LPA)was conducted separately by gender. Results:Gender differences were prominent:males exhibited higher resilience and lower suicidal ideation, while females reported higher environmental vulnerability and elevated levels of suicidal ideation.LPA identified three distinct profiles for males:Low Vulnerable–High Protective–Low Risk(LHL),Medium Vulnerable–Low Protective–Low Risk(MLL),and High Vulnerable–Low Protective–High Risk(HLH).Four profiles emerged for females:LHL,MLL,Medium Vulnerable–Low Protective–Medium Risk(MLM),and HLH.Crucially, within the HLH profile, males exhibited particularly deficient humor(η^(2)=0.19)and confidence(η^(2)=0.16),while females formed a distinct subgroup characterized by severe academic and family stressors(η^(2)=0.30–0.36).Conclusion:The study underscores developing gender-specific mental health interventions using a nuanced,person-centered approach that considers both environmental risk and individual resilience factors, which allows for targeted suicide prevention strategies addressing the unique needs of male and female adolescents.
文摘Background:The anxiolytic benefits of exercise appear to vary across societies, yet limited research has examined how cultural norms shape this association. To address this gap,the present study investigates the moderating role of societal individualism–collectivism in the relation between exercise and anxiety symptoms. Methods:Using a sample of 123,298 individuals across 23 societies and two waves from the Global Flourishing Study, weighted multilevel models were employed to examine the lagged association between exercise at Wave 1 and anxiety symptoms at Wave 2,with and without adjustment for exercise at Wave 2.We further examined the cross-level moderating role of society-level individualism–collectivism in the individual-level association between Wave 1 exercise and Wave 2 anxiety symptoms. Results:The results indicate that exercise at Wave 1 is significantly associated with lower anxiety symptoms at Wave 2 in the basic lagged model. However, the association between Wave 1 exercise and Wave 2 anxiety symptoms attenuates after accounting for exercise at Wave 2,which shows a stronger association with anxiety symptoms at Wave 2 and a larger magnitude of association.Cross-level analyses further demonstrate that the lagged association between Wave 1 exercise and Wave 2 anxiety is more pronounced in collectivist societies and negligible in individualistic societies. Conclusions:These findings contribute theoretically to public mental health and cross-cultural research by elucidating the cultural moderation of the correlation between exercise and anxiety symptoms. From a practical perspective, culturally tailored approaches to encourage exercise for anxiety reduction are essential. In collectivist societies,group-based and community-oriented exercise may better support the long-term emotional benefits of sustained activity, whereas in individualistic societies, interventions may need to emphasize intrinsic motivation to enhance the mental health benefits of exercise.

文摘Fatigue loads on wind turbines are critical factors that significantly influence operational lifespan and reliability. The passive yaw control of wind turbines often fails to capture the dynamic gradient changes of wind speed and direction in the wind field, leading to an increased risk of load overload, severely affecting operational lifespan and reducing power generation efficiency. This impact is even more pronounced during the passage of a cold front. To address this issue, this paper proposes an independent variable-pitch control method that optimizes predictions by utilizing the spatiotemporal relationship between pre-observed cold front patterns and their dynamic propagation.First,a cold front and cold front propagation model suitable for engineering applications was derived. And a non-uniform inflow load model of turbine is established, which, combined with tower vibration response and rotor dynamic loads, accurately simulates the force distribution under complex inflow conditions.Subsequently,a pre-observation-based active cyclic pitch control method is presented, dynamically computing optimal pitch angle sequences by predicting wind field trends. This method eliminates the need for iterative optimization algorithms and reduces control latency to achieve proactive load management.Simulation verification shows that the proposed control strategy can effectively reduce key structural loads and increase power generation without relying on complex optimization algorithms. This method provides a practical solution for improving the economic benefits and operational reliability of wind farms under special wind conditions.
