Memories regarding the history of the Second Sino-Japanese War （1931-1945） and World War il （1939-1945） have always been refreshed in the minds of contemporaries through the retelling of ＂historical war stories＂...Memories regarding the history of the Second Sino-Japanese War （1931-1945） and World War il （1939-1945） have always been refreshed in the minds of contemporaries through the retelling of ＂historical war stories＂ in various forms including books, posters, films and other media presentations. However, these retellings are often criticised by some academics as distortion of historical facts. This is because many of the present generation of readers and audiences were not even born at the time the events happened. Thus, ＂historical facts＂ of this era are, in reality, very vague in people＇s minds and their ＂facts＂ are often simply a construction of frequently retold ＂historical war stories＂ mixed with imagination. This article will argue that even immediately after the end of both wars in 1945, fresh history memory was already distorted, with China being the main victim. Following the end of World War II, there was an extensive publication of books and periodicals about the war. However, through varied interpretations of primary sources and use of visual materials in different ways, various positions were created to suit specific needs for justification of China＇s desire to be part of the camp of world powers after 1945. Similar diverse positions were also used to make political arguments criticising both the Axis and Allied Powers for working toward different political ends.展开更多
This research paper examines the novel TerrasseàRome by renowned contemporary French writer Pascal Quignard,analyzing the historical writing and the artist’s growth narrative in the work,as well as the intrinsic...This research paper examines the novel TerrasseàRome by renowned contemporary French writer Pascal Quignard,analyzing the historical writing and the artist’s growth narrative in the work,as well as the intrinsic connection between the two.Set in the 17th century,TerrasseàRome tells the story of the engraver Meaume,who,after suffering facial disfigurement,travels across Europe to revo-lutionize engraving art.The novel illustrates how the protagonist achieves self-reconstruction through the semiotic self’s interactions amid temporal displacement and spatial transformation.Quignard constructs the dynamic generation of the se-miotic self through the temporal dimension of historical writing and presents the tension of the artist’s growth through the polysemy of spatial symbols.Through the growth narrative of an ordinary or marginalized individual,the author deconstructs authoritative history and reevaluates the existential significance of individual life.展开更多
Since its publication in 2016,Paper Hawk has been studied by literary critics from different angles,such as its inheritance of the Chinese classical literature tradition,its conception of language and structure form,a...Since its publication in 2016,Paper Hawk has been studied by literary critics from different angles,such as its inheritance of the Chinese classical literature tradition,its conception of language and structure form,and even its usage of imagery.The historical imagination in the novel has also attracted great attention in academic circles.As one of the clues in the novel,Chinese cuisine enables the writer to outline the setting of the era and human nature,and reflect on traditional culture with a keen insight.Taking food as a starting point,I explores the path of historical evolution,its development as well as its ups and downs.A warm thanks also goes out to Dr.Xu Shiying for her interview on historical writing(Appendix follows),which represents the historical depth of Paper Hawk in a dialogue format.展开更多
