Chiroptical Evolution of Plasmonic Helicoids Induced by High-Refractive-Index Dielectric Substrates

Chiroptical responses of chiral plasmonic nanoparticles are influenced by their morphology, yet the impact of supporting substrates is significant but not fully understood. In this study, we numerically investigate the effect of high-refractive-index dielectric substrates on the chiroptical response of individual chiral plasmonic nanoparticles. Using Au helicoid as an example, we observe that as the refractive index of the supporting substrate increases, there is a remarkable enhancement in the dissymmetry factor(g-factor), along with an abnormal peak separation between the absorption and scattering g-factor spectra, which is different from typical observations. This unique chiroptical evolution is attributed to the strong plasmon hybridization under circularly polarized in-plane excitation. To validate the universality of these findings, we vary the size and material of the helicoid, confirming the consistent occurrence of this phenomenon. Our findings provide valuable insights into the substrate effect of chiral plasmonic nanoparticles to facilitate their applications in on-chip devices and sensing technologies. 展开更多

Bionic microfluidics is garnering increasing attention due to the superior fluidic performance enabled by biomimetic microstructures.Inspired by the unique structures of young pumpkin stems,we fabricate helicoidally patterned microchannels with precisely controlled morphologies using the projection micro-stereolithography(PμSL)-based 3D printing technique.Our helicoidally patterned microchannels achieve approximately twice the liquid lifting height compared to similarly sized smooth microchannels.This improvement is attributed to the enhanced capillary force.The additional meniscus formed between the helicoidally patterned microstructures significantly contributes to the increased capillary effects.Furthermore,the underlying mechanisms of fluidic performance in helicoidally patterned microchannels are theorized using a newly developed equation,which is also employed to optimize the geometric parameters and fluidic performance of the biomimetic helicoidal microchannels.Additionally,our biomimetic helicoidally patterned microchannels facilitate a significant step-lifting phenomenon,mimicking tall trees'transpiration.The fluidic performance of our biomimetic helicoidally patterned microchannels show promise for applications in enhanced liquid lifting,step-lifting,clean-water production,and others. 展开更多

Bio-inspired helicoidal composite laminates,inspired by the intricate helical structures found in nature,present a promising frontier for enhancing the mechanical properties of structural designs.Hence,this study provides a comprehensive investigation into the nonlinear free vibration and nonlinear bending behavior of bio-inspired composite plates.The inverse hyperbolic shear deformation theory(IHSDT)of plates is employed to characterize the displacement field,with the incorporation of Green-Lagrange nonlinearity.The problem is modeled using the C0finite element method(FEM),and an in-house code is developed in the MATLAB environment to solve it numerically.Various helicoidal layup configurations including helicoidal recursive(HR),helicoidal exponential(HE),helicoidal semi-circular(HS),linear helicoidal(LH),and Fibonacci helicoidal(FH)with different layup sequences and quasi-isotropic configurations are studied.The model is validated,and parametric studies are conducted.These studies investigate the effects of layup configurations,side-to-thickness ratio,modulus ratios,boundary conditions,and loading conditions at different load amplitudes on the nonlinear vibration and nonlinear bending behaviors of bio-inspired composite plates.The results show that the laminate sequence exerts a substantial impact on both nonlinear natural frequencies and nonlinear bending behaviors.Moreover,this influence varies across different side-to-thickness ratios and boundary conditions of the bio-inspired composite plate. 展开更多

The multi-layer cylindrical helicoidal fiber structure(MCHFS)exists widely in biological materials such as bone and wood at the microscale.MCHFSs typically function as reinforcing elements to enhance the toughness of materials.In this study,we establish a shear lag-based pullout model of the cylindrical helicoidal fiber(CHF)for investigating interlayer stress transfer and debonding behaviors,with implications regarding the underlying toughening mechanism of MCHFS.Based on the shear lag assumptions,analytical solutions for the stress and displacement fields of the MCHFS during the pullout are derived by considering the CHF as a cylindrically monoclinic material and verified through the 3D finite element simulation.It is found that the helical winding of CHF results in both axial and hoop interlayer shear stresses.Both the helical winding angle and the elastic moduli of the fiber and matrix have significant influences on interlayer stress transfer.This work reveals a new interlayer stress transfer mechanism in the MCHFS existing widely in biological materials. 展开更多

In this paper, an effective technique to compensate the positioning errors in a near-field—far-field (NF-FF) transformation with helicoidal scanning for elongated antennas is presented and validated both numerically and experimentally. It relies on a nonredundant sampling representation of the voltage measured by the probe, obtained by considering the antenna as enclosed in a cylinder ended in two half-spheres. An iterative scheme is used to reconstruct the helicoidal NF data at the points fixed by the representation from the acquired irregularly spaced ones. Once the helicoidal data have been retrieved, those needed by a classical NF-FF transformation with cylindrical scanning are efficiently evaluated by using an optimal sampling interpolation algorithm. Some numerical tests, assessing the accuracy of the approach and its stability with respect to random errors affecting the data, are reported. Experimental tests performed at the Antenna Characterization Lab of the University of Salerno further confirm the validity of the proposed technique. 展开更多

This paper studies and analyzes the response of helical stairs as helicoidal shells in earthquake zones. The response of helical stairs under gravity loads was analyzed by both the membrane theory and finite element methods. The non-linear response of helical stairs, when subjected to UBC (Uniform Building Code) dynamic and static equivalent earthquake loads, were obtained using finite element models. These responses were compiled and analyzed in order to draw recommendations for the preliminary design of helical stairs in earthquake zones. The analysis of the results obtained showed that helical stairs are stiffer and lighter than regular ones. 展开更多

Transcription's bubble under the influence of long-range interactions and helicoidal coupling

The influence of power-low long-range interactions (LRI) and helicoidal coupling (HC) on the properties of localized solitons in a DNA molecule when a ribonucleic acid polymerase (RNAP) binds to it at the physiological temperature is analytically and numerically investigated in this paper. We have made an analogy with the Heisenberg model Hamiltonian of an anisotropic spin ladder with ferromagnetic legs and anti-ferromagnetic rung coupling. When we limit ourselves to the second-order terms in the Taylor expansion, the DNA dynamics is found to be governed by a completely integrable nonlinear Schr?dinger (NLS) equation. In this case, results show that increasing the value of HC force or LRI parameter enhances the bubble height and reduces the number of base pairs which form the bubble. For the fourth-order terms in a Taylor expansion, results are closely resembling those of second-order terms, and are confirmed by numerical investigation. These results match with some experimental data and thus provide a better representation of the base pairs opening in DNA which is essential for the transcription process. 展开更多

结合实际地质资料设计9组砂箱模拟实验,并利用断层CT扫描技术研究简单剪切走滑带演化规律与发育机制。结果表明,R(Riedel)剪切断裂形成早、数量多,并有一组与主走滑带低角度相交,P剪切断裂(与R剪切断裂对称分布的压剪破裂)与Y剪切断裂(... 结合实际地质资料设计9组砂箱模拟实验,并利用断层CT扫描技术研究简单剪切走滑带演化规律与发育机制。结果表明,R(Riedel)剪切断裂形成早、数量多,并有一组与主走滑带低角度相交,P剪切断裂(与R剪切断裂对称分布的压剪破裂)与Y剪切断裂(与主位移带近平行的剪切破裂)形成滞后,并在Y剪切断裂发育后才从分段构造连接成贯穿的走滑带。走滑带贯穿连通过程可划分为4个阶段:萌芽阶段、R剪切断裂发育阶段、P剪切与Y剪切断裂发育阶段、走滑带贯穿阶段。实验揭示了走滑断裂由基底向盖层递进传播的发育过程,萌芽阶段剖面上断裂逐渐向上散开发育,R剪切断裂发育阶段平面上向外散开后逐渐向主位移带收敛。雁列构造具有"螺旋-拖曳"发育模式,雁列断裂的长度增长速度呈约2倍于深度增长速度线性增长,而与主位移带夹角随深度呈二次函数变小。分析表明,最大主应力方向、盖层厚度是导致雁列构造"螺旋-拖曳"结构差异的主控因素。走滑断裂的物理模拟为塔里木盆地海相碳酸盐岩断裂解析与分层、分段的勘探开发实践提供了模型基础。 展开更多

2009年,南京中山植物园王莲育苗池中的朗伍德王莲(Victoria‘Longwood Hybrid’)发生了叶片腐烂病。按照柯赫氏法则对其进行了病原物的分离、纯化和致病性测定,并对菌株进行了形态学和分子生物学鉴定。从发病部位稳定分离到形态一致的... 2009年,南京中山植物园王莲育苗池中的朗伍德王莲(Victoria‘Longwood Hybrid’)发生了叶片腐烂病。按照柯赫氏法则对其进行了病原物的分离、纯化和致病性测定,并对菌株进行了形态学和分子生物学鉴定。从发病部位稳定分离到形态一致的低等真菌;致病性测定结果表明,回接后发病株产生与自然侵染相同的症状,并重新分离到相同菌株。通过病原菌形态特征和核糖体rDNA ITS序列分析,病株分离物被鉴定为旋柄腐霉(Pythium helicoides)。这是国内外首次报道在王莲上分离出旋柄腐霉并证明其为王莲的致病菌。该病害被定名为王莲腐霉叶腐病。 展开更多

通过对湖北省富水、南河水库坝基渗漏水及其析出物的研究 ,探讨了不同水库沉积环境中显微针铁矿的成因差异及微生物在铁的生物矿化中的作用和意义。采用化学分析、X射线衍射、红外光谱、穆斯堡尔谱、透射电镜和扫描电镜分析等手段 ,研... 通过对湖北省富水、南河水库坝基渗漏水及其析出物的研究 ,探讨了不同水库沉积环境中显微针铁矿的成因差异及微生物在铁的生物矿化中的作用和意义。采用化学分析、X射线衍射、红外光谱、穆斯堡尔谱、透射电镜和扫描电镜分析等手段 ,研究了两个水库坝基渗漏水析出物的组成、物相和形貌特征。两个水库坝基渗漏水的成分相似 ,阳离子均以Ca2 + 、Mg2 + 、K+ 、Na+ 为主 ,Fe2 + 和Fe3 + 含量极少 ,阴离子以HCO-3 为主。渗漏水析出物的化学成分以铁的氧化物为主 ,析出物的主要矿物相为针铁矿、石英、伊利石、蒙脱石及微量方解石 ,呈弱结晶状态。穆斯堡尔谱图和SEM显微形貌特征证实了南河水库中针铁矿以化学成因为主 ,系菱铁矿风化而成 ;富水水库中针铁矿的形成受铁细菌的影响 ,以生物成因为主。 展开更多
