The Fe-based amorphous metallic matrix coating (Fe-AMMC) was fabricated with the powder mixtures of Fe-based metallic glass synthesized with industrial raw materials, NiCr alloy and WC particle by high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying. The corrosion resistance of Fe-AMMC was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization tests in 1 mol/L HCl, NaCl, H2SO4 and NaOH solutions, respectively. The surface morphologies corroded were observed by SEM. The results indicate that Fe-AMMC exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, higher corrosion resistance than 304L stainless steel in the chloride solutions. The low corrosion current density and passive current density of Fe-AMMC with a wide spontaneous passivation region are about 132.0μA/cm2 and 9.0 mA/cm2 in HCl solution, and about 2.5 μA/cm2 and 2.3 mA/cm2 in NaCl solution. The excellent corrosion resistance demonstrates that Fe-based amorphous metallic matrix powder is a viable engineering material in practical anti-corrosion and anti-wear coating applications. 展开更多

TiN-matrix composite coating was prepared on 45# steel by reactive high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying. Its microstructure, phase composition, micro-hardness, corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaC1 solution and wear resistance were analyzed. The results suggest that the TiN-matrix composite coating is well bonded with the substrate. The micro-hardness measured decreases with the increase of applied test loads. And the micro-hardness of the coating under heavy loads is relatively high. The TiN-matrix composite coating exhibits an excellent corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaC1 solution. The corrosion potential of coating is positive and the passivation zone is broad, which indicates that the TiN-matrix composite coating is stable in the electrolyte and provides excellent protection to the substrate. The wear coefficient of the coating under all loads maintains at 0.49-0.50. The wear mechanism of the coating is revealed to be three-body abrasive wear. Yet the failure forms of TiN-matrix composite coating under different loads have an obvious difference. The failure form of coating under light loads is particle spallation due to the stress concentration while that of coating under heavy loads is crackin~ between inter-lamellae. 展开更多

A FeCrSiBMn amorphous/nanocrystalline coating with 700 μm in thickness and 0.65% in porosity, was prepared by high velocity oxygen fuel(HVOF) spraying process. The long-term corrosion behavior of the FeCrSiBMn coating was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) tests in a 3.5% NaCl solution with a hard chromium coating as a reference. The FeCrSiBMn coating exhibited higher corrosion potential and lower corrosion current density than the hard chromium coating. The pore resistance(Rp) and charge transfer resistance(Rct) of FeCrSiBMn coating were higher than those of the hard chromium coating. In addition, after immersion in the Na Cl solution for 28 d, only small pores in the FeCrSiBMn coating were observed. All the results indicated that the FeCrSiBMn coating held superior corrosion resistance to the hard chromium coating. This could be attributed to the dense structure, low porosity and amorphous/nanocrystalline phases of the FeCrSiBMn coating. 展开更多

WC?10Co?4Cr and Cr3C2?25NiCr coatings were deposited on H13 steel by high velocity oxy fuel (HVOF) spraying. To enhance the thermal stability of the WC?10Co?4Cr coating, NiCr powders were sprayed between the surface coating and substrate. The microstructures of the surface and cross section, thermal shock and wear resistance of these two coatings were investigated in detail. The carbon diffusion in the two coatings was explained from the view of the thermodynamic. And the adhesive strength of Cr3C2?25NiCr coating (64.40 MPa) is almost the same as that of WC?10Co?4Cr coating (61.69 MPa). The friction tests show that the Cr3C2?25NiCr coating has higher friction coefficient than the WC?10Co?4Cr coating at both 500 and 600 °C. The wear resistance of the Cr3C2?25NiCr coating is better than that of the WC?10Co?4Cr coating. 展开更多

A new kind of multi-dimensional WC-10Co4Cr coating which is composed of nano, submicron, micron WC grains and CoCr alloy, was developed by high velocity oxy-fuel(HVOF)spraying.Porosity,microhardness,fracture toughness and cavitation erosion resistance of the multi-dimensional coating were investigated in comparison with the bimodal and nanostructured WC?10Co4Cr coatings. Moreover, the cavitation erosion behavior and mechanism of the multi-dimensional coating were explored. Results show that HVOF sprayed multi-dimensional WC-10Co4Cr coating possesses low porosity(≤0.32%)and high fracture toughness without obvious nano WC decarburization during spraying.Furthermore,it is discovered that the multi-dimensional WC-10Co4Cr coating exhibits the best cavitation erosion resistance which is enhanced by approximately 28%and 34%,respectively,compared with the nanostructured and bimodal coatings in fresh water. The superior cavitation resistance of multi-dimensional WC-10Co4Cr coating may originate from the unique micro?nano structure and excellent properties, which can effectively obstruct the formation and propagation of cavitation erosion cracks. 展开更多

Titanium dioxide(TiO_(2))was elaborated by four different thermal spray techniques-(i)plasma spraying using a water-stabilized torch,(ii)plasma spraying using a gas-stabilized torch,(iii)high velocity oxy-fuel gun,and(iv)oxy-acetylene flame. The porosity of the coatings was studied by optical microscopy,nano-structural features by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),phase composition by X-ray diffraction(XRD);the microhardness, surface roughness and wear resistance were evaluated. The diffuse reflectance was measured by ultra-violet/visible/near-infrared(UV/Vis/NIR)scanning spectrophotometer. The kinetics of photocatalytic degradation of gaseous acetone was measured under a UV lamp with 365 nm wavelength. After all the applied spray processes, the transformation of anatase phase from the initial powders to rutile phase in the coatings occurred. In spite of this transformation, all the coatings exhibited certain photocatalytic activity, which correlated well with their band gap energy calculated from reflectivity. All the coatings offer relatively good mechanical properties and can serve as robust photocatalysts. 展开更多
