Effects of Ecological Ditch and Wetland in Reducing Farmland Drainage Pollutants in Hetao Irrigation District

[Objectives]To explore the control mode of farmland drainage pollutants and investigate the effects of ecological ditch and wetland on reducing farmland drainage pollutants in Hetao Irrigation District.[Methods]Based on the demonstration construction project of the ecological ditch-constructed wetland system in the Hetao Irrigation District,an experimental study was conducted from July to September 2023 to investigate the interception and purification effects of ecological ditches,constructed wetlands,and the combined ecological ditch-constructed wetland system on farmland drainage pollutants.Key water quality parameters measured included total nitrogen(TN)concentration and total phosphorus(TP)concentration.[Results]Different treatment modes of ecological ditches and constructed wetlands have a certain removal effect on nitrogen and phosphorus pollutants in water bodies.The ecological ditches treated with Astragalus laxmannii,Melilotus officinalis,Medicago sativa,bio-ball substrate,and bio-sheet substrate showed reduction efficiencies for TN and TP of 21.09% and 23.84%,12.06% and 26.67%,20.08% and 34.15%,23.65% and 20.56%,and 19.92% and 25.83%,respectively.The emergent plant area showed reduction efficiencies of 24.28%for TN and 17.89%for TP,while the submerged plant area achieved a reduction efficiency of 10.21%for both TN and TP.Among the different treatment modes,the ecological ditch with M.sativa performed better in TP removal,whereas the bio-ball substrate treatment mode showed higher effectiveness in TN removal.In addition,the emergent plant area exhibited better TP removal performance,while the submerged plant area was more effective in TN removal.The combined system of ecological ditch and constructed wetland achieved removal rates of 37.55% for TN and 11.47% for TP.It effectively facilitates the step-by-step interception and adsorption purification of pollutants,thereby showing significant removal and purification effects on nitrogen and phosphorus contaminants.This contributes to mitigating agricultural non-point source pollution.[Conclusions]The combined ecological ditch-constructed wetland system serves dual functions of agricultural drainage and pollutant interception and purification.It reduces the pollution load of farmland drainage on receiving water bodies to some extent and mitigates agricultural non-point source pollution.Therefore,it is a relatively suitable technology for managing agricultural non-point source pollution in the Hetao Irrigation District. 展开更多

Salinity is one of the major abiotic factors affecting the growth and productivity of crops in Hetao Irrigation District, China. In this study, the salinity tolerances of three local crops, wheat (Triticum aestinum L.), maize (Zea mays L.) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.), growing in 76 farm fields are evaluated with modified discount function. Salinity ecological zones appropriate for these local crops are characterized and a case study is presented for crop salinity ecological zoning. The results show that the yield reductions of wheat, maize and sunflower when grown in saline soils are attributed primarily to a reduction in spikelet number, 1 000-grain weight and seed number per head, respectively. Sunflower is the most tolerant crop among the three which had a salinity tolerance index (ST-index) of 12.24, followed by spring maize and spring wheat with ST-Indices of 9.00 and 7.43, respectively. According to the crop salinity tolerance results, the arable land in the Heping Village of this district was subdivided into four salinity ecological zones: the most suitable, suitable, sub-suitable and unsuitable zones. The area proportion of the most suitable zone for wheat, maize and sunflower within the Heping Village was 27.5, 46.5 and 77.5%, respectively. Most of the most suitable zone occurred in the western part of the village. The results of this study provide the scientific basis for optimizing the local major crop distribution and improving cultural practices management in Hetao Irrigation District. 展开更多

High arsenic(As)groundwater is a global problem primarily originating from As-enriched sediments.The provenance(source)and release mechanisms(sinks)of high As sediment have been identified,but the source-sink transfer is poorly understood,especially the influence of geological and surface processes.In this study,we explore the roles of tectonic movement and Yellow River evolution in provenance formation processes and evaluate the combined effects of provenance and sediment age on the As content of aquifer sediments in the northern Hetao Basin of Inner Mongolia.Based on optically stimulated luminescence(OSL)and 14C dating and detrital zircon U-Pb,As content,and lithological analyses of a 400 m core,we reconstructed As changes over the last 160 ka.Our results show clay deposited in a paleo-lake during the Gonghe movement period in the late Pleistocene(∼100 ka B.P.)is enriched in As(31.8μg/g)due to significant provenance contributions of the As-bearing Langshan Group under tectonic uplift and mountain erosion.In contrast,clay deposited in the middle Pleistocene(∼160 ka B.P.)has lower As content(7.3μg/g)due to the Yellow River as the primary provenance.Accordingly,the provenance of basin As forced by tectonic uplift and Yellow River evolution determines the background As of aquifer sediments.After deposition,sediment As content decays over time,with higher decay rates in coarse-grained sands than fine-grained.Overall,both provenance formation and sediment age,representing initial and dynamic states of solid phase As,jointly determine the As content of aquifer sediments.More solid phase As provided by younger sediments from the proximal orogenic provenance and reducing conditions due to frequent river-lake transitions,jointly lead to higher As concentrations in shallow groundwater.The study highlights the potential for using a combined analysis of the tectonic movement-surface processes-environment system to improve understanding of geogenic high As groundwater over global large sedimentary basins in the proximity of young orogenic belts. 展开更多

Hetao Irrigation District is located in the cold and arid region of Hetao Plain,Inner Mongolia,where the agricultural soil has unique characteristics.Although the agricultural soil properties in Hetao Irrigation Districts have been reported,the overall characteristics remain unclear.Through literature review and investigation,the overall characteristics,development patterns,and related reasons were explored,consequently providing theoretical support for enhancing soil utilization and formulating sustainable soil development strategies.The results showed that the agricultural soil in Hetao Irrigation District originated from the sedimentary layer and anthropogenic mellowing produced by the diversions of the Yellow River.The soil has periodic secondary salinization characteristics,accompanied by a slightly increasing pH value over time.It has low soil organic contents with a stable changing trend,low nitrogen,and phosphorus contents but high potassium and sulfur content,uneven nutrient distribution,diverse production performance,weak but stable ecological performance,and heterogeneous soil quality with a stable change trend.These findings indicate that this kind of soil can be used to plant diverse crops tolerant to different saline-alkali and requiring various nutrients.This agricultural soil is sustainable,but it is also faced with the problems of increased saline-alkali,nutrient loss,and pollution. 展开更多

Focusing on the b-value as the research target and under the theoretical framework that the b-value is determined by stress state and medium properties, the variation characteristics of the b-value in the Hetao seismic belt are analyzed. Earthquakes with ML≥1. 5,which have occurred in the Hetao seismic belt since 1970 are selected to conduct the quantitative detection of the non-uniform temporal change of Mcusing the EMR method. Based on the actual situation of seismic activity,the lower limit magnitude is set as ML2. 0 to calculate the b-value. The temporal variation of the b-value is calculated and scanned using the least square method. The results show that there is a good corresponding relationship between the temporal variation of the b-value,strong earthquake activity,network distribution and aftershock deletion. We also calculate and scan the spatial variation of the b-value by using maximum likelihood. The results show that the spatial difference is possibly caused by stress state and crustal medium properties. The tectonic dependence of the b-value is obvious. In addition,the sufficient earthquakes samples in each magnitude interval are still a key step to improve the calculation accuracy of the b-value. 展开更多

Based on drilling and logging data,as well as geological experiments,the geological characteristics and factors controlling high-yield and enrichment of hydrocarbons in ultra-deep clastic rocks in the Linhe Depression,Hetao Basin,are studied.The results are obtained in four aspects.First,the inland saline lacustrine high-quality source rocks developed in the Paleogene in the Linhe Depression have the characteristics of early maturity,early expulsion,high hydrocarbon yield,and continuous and efficient hydrocarbon generation,providing an important resource basis for the formation of ultra-high pressure and high-yield reservoirs.Second,the weak compaction,early charging,and weak cementation for pore-preserving,together with the ultra-high pressure for pore-preserving and fracture expansion to improve the permeability,leads to the development of high-quality reservoirs with medium porosity(greater than 15%)and medium permeability(up to 226×10^(-3)μm^(2))in the ultra-deep strata(deeper than 6500 m),which represents a greatly expanded space for oil and gas exploration.Third,the Linhe Formation adjacent to the trough exhibits a low net-to-gross(NTG)and good reservoir-caprock assemblage,and it is overlaid by very thick high-quality mudstone caprock,which are conducive to the continuous and efficient hydrocarbon generation and pressurization and the formation of ultra-high pressure oil and gas reservoirs.Fourth,the most favorable targets for ultra-deep exploration are the zones adjacent to the hydrocarbon generating center of the Paleogene Linhe Formation and with good tectonic setting and structural traps,mainly including the Xinglong faulted structural zone and the Nalinhu faulted buried-hill zone.The significant breakthrough of ultra-deep oil and gas exploration in the Linhe Depression reveals the good potential of ultra-deep clastic rocks in this area,and provides valuable reference for oil and gas exploration of ultra-deep clastic rocks in other areas. 展开更多

Drip irrigation and flood irrigation are major irrigation methods for maize crops in the Hetao Irrigation District,Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,China.This research delves into the effects of these irrigation methods on carbon dioxide(CO_(2))exchange and crop growth in this region.The experimental site was divided into drip and flood irrigation zones.The irrigation schedules of this study aligned with the local commonly used irrigation schedule.We employed a developed chamber system to measure the diurnal CO_(2)exchange of maize plants during various growth stages under both drip and flood irrigation methods.From May to September in 2020 and 2021,two sets of repeated experiments were conducted.In each experiment,a total of nine measurements of CO_(2)exchange were performed to obtain carbon exchange data at different growth stages of maize crop.During each CO_(2)exchange measurement event,CO_(2)flux data were collected every two hours over a day-long period to capture the diurnal variations in CO_(2)exchange.During each CO_(2)exchange measurement event,the biological parameters(aboveground biomass and crop growth rate)of maize and environmental parameters(including air humidity,air temperature,precipitation,soil water content,and photosynthetically active radiation)were measured.The results indicated a V-shaped trend in net ecosystem CO_(2)exchange in daytime,reducing slowly at night,while the net assimilation rate(net primary productivity)exhibited a contrasting trend.Notably,compared with flood irrigation,drip irrigation demonstrated significantly higher average daily soil CO_(2)emission and greater average daily CO_(2)absorption by maize plants.Consequently,within the maize ecosystem,drip irrigation appeared more conducive to absorbing atmospheric CO_(2).Furthermore,drip irrigation demonstrated a faster crop growth rate and increased aboveground biomass compared with flood irrigation.A strong linear relationship existed between leaf area index and light utilization efficiency,irrespective of the irrigation method.Notably,drip irrigation displayed superior light use efficiency compared with flood irrigation.The final yield results corroborated these findings,indicating that drip irrigation yielded higher harvest index and overall yield than flood irrigation.The results of this study provide a basis for the selection of optimal irrigation methods commonly used in the Hetao Irrigation District.This research also serves as a reference for future irrigation studies that consider measurements of both carbon emissions and yield simultaneously. 展开更多

To investigate geochemical and mineralogical features of sediments from aquifers containing high levels of dissolved arsenic(As) in western Hetao Basin, Inner Mongolia, sediment samples were collected for XRD(X-ray diffraction), amorphous Fe/Mn oxides, and humic/fulvic acid analyses, in addition to As determination. In the study area, the total As contents in the sediments were in the range 5.3–28.8 mg/kg; while that associated with humic substances in the range 4–9 mg/kg, accounting for 26%–47% of the total As. The results of XRD analysis suggest that clay and silt contain certain small amounts of iron oxides minerals, such as ferrihydrite, hematite and goethite, whereas have higher As and Fe_2O_3 contents. Up to one third of As in the sediments could be extracted by ammonium oxalate, and high As contents were generally found in organic-rich clay or silty clay samples with high FA/HA ratio. As is strongly associated with humic substances and Fe oxyhydroxides, which may be the major sink and source of As in the aquifer sediments. 展开更多

Based on new data from cores,drilling and logging,combined with extensive rock and mineral testing analysis,a systematic analysis is conducted on the characteristics,diagenesis types,genesis and controlling factors of deep to ultra-deep abnormally high porosity clastic rock reservoirs in the Oligocene Linhe Formation in the Hetao Basin.The reservoir space of the deep to ultra-deep clastic rock reservoirs in the Linhe Formation is mainly primary pores,and the coupling of three favorable diagenetic elements,namely the rock fabric with strong compaction resistance,weak thermal compaction diagenetic dynamic field,and diagenetic environment with weak fluid compaction-weak cementation,is conducive to the preservation of primary pores.The Linhe Formation clastic rocks have a superior preexisting material composition,with an average total content of 90%for quartz,feldspar,and rigid rock fragments,and strong resistance to compaction.The geothermal gradient in Linhe Depression in the range of(2.0–2.6)°C/100 m is low,and together with the burial history of long-term shallow burial and late rapid deep burial,it forms a weak thermal compaction diagenetic dynamic field environment.The diagenetic environment of the saline lake basin is characterized by weak fluid compaction.At the same time,the paleosalinity has zoning characteristics,and weak cementation in low salinity areas is conducive to the preservation of primary pores.The hydrodynamic conditions of sedimentation,salinity differentiation of ancient water in saline lake basins,and sand body thickness jointly control the distribution of high-quality reservoirs in the Linhe Formation. 展开更多

Based on paleogeomorphology, drilling and seismic data, this paper systematically studies the structural and sedimentary evolution, source rock characteristics, reservoir characteristics and formation mechanism, hydrocarbon accumulation model and enrichment law in the Linhe Depression of the Hetao Basin, NW China. The Hetao Basin mainly experienced three stages of evolution, namely, weak extensional fault depression, strong extensional fault depression and strike-slip transformation, giving rise to four positive structural belts(Jilantai, Shabu, Nalinhu and Xinglong), which are favorable areas for oil and gas accumulation. The two main saline lacustrine source rocks, Lower Cretaceous Guyang Formation and Oligocene Linhe Formation, are characterized by high sulfur content, rich algae, early maturity, early expulsion, and wide oil generation window. The large structural transition belt in the intermountain area around the Hetao Basin controls the formation of large-scale braided river delta deposits, which are characterized by high quartz content(50%-76%), long-term shallow burial and weak compaction, low cement content, and good reservoir properties in delta front sandbody. The burial depth of the effective Paleogene reservoirs is predicted to reach 8000 m. Three hydrocarbon accumulation models, nose-uplift near sag, buried hill surrounding sag, fault nose near source rock, are constructed. The law of hydrocarbon accumulation in the Linhe Depression is finally clarified as follows: near-source around the depression is the foundation, high-quality thick reservoir is the premise, good tectonic setting and trap conditions are the key. 展开更多

This study was conducted to solve the problem of green weed control in wheat fields in Hetao irrigation area among the Yellow River.Based on the observation of the competition between wheat and weeds in areas where weeds occurred seriously in wheat fields in Hetao irrigation area among the Yellow River,we measured the effects of green weed control measures and wheat yield using different wheat varieties,planting densities,different organic fertilizers,different ploughing times,and different mulching methods.The results showed that the emergence of weeds in wheat fields dominated by Chenopodiaceae weeds,grain amaranth and barnyard grass was more than 10 d later than wheat.Weeds were mainly distributed between rows(holes),and the number of plants accounted for 66.6%(drill seeding)and 97.6%(hole seeding),respectively.And the growth of weeds in rows(holes)was weaker,and the fresh weight of individual plants was 39.3%-41.9%lower than that between rows(holes).The ecological weed inhibitory effect was significant in the early stage of wheat growth;and among the green weed control measures,except that different varieties and planting densities caused no significant difference in weed control effect,other measures had obvious weed control effects.Comprehensive comparison showed that the control effects of plant number in black film full-covered hole seeding,conventional film-covered hole seeding,increasing ploughing times,and applying organic fertilizer free of weed seed pollution were 82.3%,71.7%,22.0%,and 8.6%,respectively;the fresh weight control effects of black film full-covered hole seeding,conventional film-covered hole seeding,increasing ploughing times,and applying organic fertilizer free of weed seed pollution were 98.0%,97.1%,23.9%,and 9.6%,respectively;and the fresh weight control effects of black film full-covered hole seeding,conventional film-covered hole seeding and increasing ploughing times increased wheat yield by 69.4%,56.4%and 21.1%,respectively.The technologies in this study can realize the purposes of mechanized green weed control in organic wheat production and low-cost,high-yield,large-scale production. 展开更多

An Empirical Framework of Washing Salinity by Irrigation to Maintain Soil Quality in Hetao Irrigation District

[Methods] The methods of experiment, questionnaire, on-the-spot investigation and literature review were used. [Results] This study proposed the empirical framework of washing salinity by irrigation to maintain soil quality in Hetao Irrigation District. Seven factors of the framework, including flood irrigation, land leveling, plastic film mulching, fertilization, soil organic matter, pH and salinity, and their relationships were determined. The characteristics of these factors in Hetao Irrigation District were investigated(flooding irrigation with a large amount of irrigation water, high amount of fertilizer application, low organic matter, high pH, large variation of salinity, etc.). The mechanisms and effects of various factors affecting soil quality in Hetao Irrigation District were analyzed(the mean soil organic matter(SOM) and pH were kept in the range of 10.9-13.9 g/kg and 8.0-8.15 in recent 35 years, respectively, and increased slightly, etc.). [Conclusions] The empirical framework can be used as a theoretical norm for evaluating soil quality under the condition of washing salinity by irrigation. Under the condition of washing salinity by irrigation, the agricultural soil quality in Hetao Irrigation District showed a stable trend over time. Using this framework, we can find soil problems, and adjust some unbalanced factors to maintain the stability of soil quality in Hetao Irrigation District, and can also provide a reference for other areas. 展开更多

[Objectives]To evaluate the impacts of the elemental sulfur(S 0)and micro-algae(MA)co-fertilization on saline-alkaline soil of sunflower field in the Hetao Irrigation District(HID).[Methods]The greenhouse pot experiment was conducted with four treatments:control(CK),single S 0 fertilization(S),single MA fertilization(A),and S 0 and MA co-fertilization(SA)for comparing the selected soil properties and sunflower plant heights and weights in different treatments.[Results]The results showed that the mean soil organic matter(SOM)under the SA(25.08 g/kg)was significantly higher than that for the CK(20.59 g/kg),S(22.47 g/kg),and A(22.95 g/kg).The mean pH under the SA(7.75)was significantly lower than that for the CK(8.14),S(7.82),and A(7.96).The mean soil exchangeable Na+concentration under the SA was significantly lower than that for the S.The mean soil electrical conductivity(EC)under the SA was 9.76%lower than that for the S.The means of Cl-(1.22 g/kg)and SO 2-4(1.90 g/kg)in soil under the SA were lower than that for the S(1.30,2.06 g/kg)and A(1.31,1.97 g/kg),respectively.For plant height 3 at the late stage of plant growth,the mean plant height 3 under the SA(89.00 cm)was higher than that of the CK(69.60 cm)and A(74.33 cm).The total weights of the fresh sunflower heads,fresh stems,and dry seeds under the SA were higher than that for the CK,S,and A.[Conclusions]In conclusion,the S 0 and MA co-fertilization had positive effects on improving saline-alkaline soils,the soil under the S 0 and MA co-fertilization could be better conditions for promoting sunflower growth than that for the S,Z,and CK,and thereby the S 0 and MA co-fertilization could be a new idea to improve saline-alkaline soil in the cold and arid regions. 展开更多

基于物元可拓理论的河套灌区现代化建设水平评价及障碍因子诊断

针对复杂运行环境下大型灌区现代化建设水平分级评价及障碍因子诊断问题,该研究构建了河套灌区现代化建设水平分级评价指标体系和指标分级标准,采用改进熵值法对评价指标赋权,应用物元可拓分析法对河套灌区现代化建设水平进行评价;参考S... 针对复杂运行环境下大型灌区现代化建设水平分级评价及障碍因子诊断问题,该研究构建了河套灌区现代化建设水平分级评价指标体系和指标分级标准,采用改进熵值法对评价指标赋权,应用物元可拓分析法对河套灌区现代化建设水平进行评价;参考SPA-VFS耦合模型评价结果,验证该研究所用评价方法的合理性;引入障碍度模型,识别影响河套灌区现代化发展的关键障碍因子。结果表明:物元可拓分析法得出河套灌区现代化建设水平评价指标与指标等级综合关联度最大值为-0.191,依据最大综合关联度原则,其现代化建设水平评价等级为Ⅱ级;采用SPA-VFS耦合模型计算得到河套灌区现代化建设水平评价等级为Ⅱ级,与该研究所采用的评价方法得到的评价结果一致,表明物元可拓理论用于河套灌区现代化建设水平评价合理可行;针对河套灌区现代化建设水平分级评价中多指标的特点,物元可拓分析法相对SPA-VFS耦合模型的计算过程更为简便,更适宜河套灌区现代化建设水平评价;高效节水灌溉面积占比、灌溉水利用系数、单位面积灌溉用水量、闸门自动化远程监控覆盖率、万元农业增加值用水量、盐碱化面积占比、灌区排涝达标率和灌区供水保障率8个评价指标累计障碍度达60.84%,是目前影响河套灌区现代化建设的关键障碍因子。该研究方法可为内蒙古引黄灌区及西北地区类似灌区现代化建设水平评价提供参考。 展开更多

河套灌区杭锦后旗间套作种植生产现状及限制因素分析

为明确河套灌区间套作种植的生产现状及限制因素,选择河套灌区具有代表性的杭锦后旗为研究区域开展调研。基于杭锦后旗8个乡镇24个行政村,共收集503份有效调研问卷,结果表明杭锦后旗较为广泛种植的间套作体系分别有小麦/玉米、小麦/向... 为明确河套灌区间套作种植的生产现状及限制因素,选择河套灌区具有代表性的杭锦后旗为研究区域开展调研。基于杭锦后旗8个乡镇24个行政村,共收集503份有效调研问卷,结果表明杭锦后旗较为广泛种植的间套作体系分别有小麦/玉米、小麦/向日葵、西瓜/向日葵套作和玉米|大豆间作(以粮食作物、经济作物为主),其中小麦/玉米、小麦/向日葵套作分布最多,分别占42.5%和23.5%,均能明显提高土地利用效率,土地当量比分别为1.48和1.29。当地间套作种植主要存在两方面限制因素,一方面,间套作种植中田间管理措施更为复杂,其中灌溉次数和除草次数平均比单作高1.0和0.9次;另一方面,间套作体系的平均施氮量比单作高70.7%。基于此,该地区需进一步探索适合间套作的田间管理措施和施肥策略,以减少水肥投入,同时应加强间套作配套机械和除草剂等相关生产资料的研发,并开展技术培训以提高农户对间套作种植的认知。 展开更多
