Harem-mating was used in 96 female and 16 male rhesus monkeys. Pregnancy was confirmed on gestation day(GD)18 by ultrasound. The blood samples of rhesus monkeys were collected at various times(20 days before pregnancy and GD20, 100 and 150). The analyses of blood chemistry, hematology, and lymphocyte subsets were performed. Copmpared with 20 days before pregnancy, Significant decreases(P < 0.05) were observed in HCT and RBC on GD20, GD150 and in HGB on GD150, Significant increases in NEUT and decreases in LYMPH on GD20 were observed. Significant decreases in ALB from GD20 to GD150 were observed, significant decreases in TP was observed on GD100. Significant increases in mean GLU were observed on GD20 and GD150 during pregnancy. Significant decreases(P < 0.05) in CD20+ subsets on GD100, GD150 and CD4+/CD8+ ratio on GD150 were observed, The significant changes of MCV, MCHC, RDW-SD, MCV, MONO, ALT, AST, GLB, ALP, TBIL, DBIL, IBIL, GGT, CR-S, URIC, TC, TG and CK were observed during the pregnant period, but no biologic change were observed, There were no significant changes in MCH, RDW-CV, MPV, BUN, CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ during pregnancy. These data provide a database for preclinical study in rhesus monkeys. Physiological anemia, hyperglycemia, and immune suppression may occur in pregnant rhesus monkey which is similar to that found in human, and it is essential to distinguish the physiological changes from the pharmacological effects in reproductive and developmental toxicity and developmental immunotoxicity studies of pharmaceuticals.展开更多

By a cross-sectional study, 1168 children from Iganga, a prospective site for clinical trials in Uganda, were screened. From 1168 households, 460 children were selected for enrollment, while 600 (58%) were excluded because of either a history of fever in the previous 24 hours, presence of asexual malaria parasites in the peripheral blood or presence of fever. Accordingly, 460 children (39.4%) of median age = 3 years were enrolled in the baseline study. While the lower limits of hemoglobin, hematocrit levels, mean corpuscular volume and platelet counts for the Ugandan children were found to be less than conventional reference values of Caucasisan children, the white blood cell count reference values were higher than the international intervals. On the other hand, the upper limits of the reference intervals for serum transaminases, bilirubin, creatinine, urea, total protein and albumin in sera of the Ugandan children were higher than the corresponding values for a Caucasian pediatric population. This study showed that, if hematology test results of the Ugandan children were assessed against “imported” international reference values, up to 44.6% of the study participants would have been excluded from clinical trials or would have been reported as adverse events in such trials. The present study was not only the first report of serum biochemistry reference ranges for children aged one to five years in Uganda but also one of very few such studies in Africa.展开更多

Following intramuscular inoculation, the results indicated significantly lower (p < 0.05) packed cell volume (PCV) in infected chickens (IC) on days 3 - 9 post inoculation (PI) and in infected ducks (ID) on days 3 - 15 PI. The hemoglobin concentrations were significantly lower (p < 0.05) in IC on days 3, 6 and 15 PI while in the ID, they were significantly lower (p < 0.05) on days 3, 9 and 15 PI. The total erythrocyte counts were significantly lower (p < 0.05) in IC on days 3, 9 and 15 PI and in ID, they were significantly lower (p < 0.05) on days 3 and 9 PI. The mean corpuscular values indicated macrocytic hypochromic anemia in IC and macrocytic normochromic anemia in ID. The leucogram showed leucopenia in IC and initial leucopenia followed by leucocytosis in ID. The hematological pictures of the velogenic NDV in this experiment indicate less susceptibility of ducks when compared with the chickens. The severity of this virus infection in chickens and the mild clinical signs and lesions presented by ducks showed that ducks are far less susceptible than chickens.展开更多

Methods: 40 full-time nurses working in the hematology department of our hospital from January 2018 to January 2019 were selected as the research objects, including 10 who had worked for less than 5 years, 10 who had worked for more than 5 years, 5 who had junior college degree or less, and 15 who had bachelor degree. The scores of all dimensions of the Chinese version of the pain management scale for nurses with different working years (more than 5 years and less than 5 years) were compared, and the scores of all dimensions of the Chinese version of the pain management scale for nurses with different educational backgrounds were compared. The pain knowledge, attitude and behavior of pain care were analyzed by Logistic regression. Results: the scores of all dimensions of the pain management scale for nurses with 5 years and above were significantly higher than those for nurses with less than 5 years (P < 0.05). The scores of all dimensions of the pain management scale for nurses at undergraduate level and above were significantly higher than those for nurses at junior level and below (P<0.05). Patients' pain statement, patients' physiological symptoms, patients' pain degree and nurses' subjective evaluation were independent risk factors that affected hematology nurses' pain knowledge, attitude and behavior. Conclusion: the longer the working years and the higher the education level of hematology nurses, the more ideal their pain medical knowledge and ability to deal with patients. In practice, pain assessment and intervention should be carried out based on the patient's description of pain, patient's physical condition and other comprehensive factors.展开更多

We investigated the stress responses of juvenile turbot, Scophthalmus maximus, exposed to Fe(II) of different concentrations (0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1, and 2 mg/L) for 1, 7, 14, and 28 d, under the same ambient conditions of other parameters. Changes in respiratory rate, hematological parameters, and gill structure were determined. The results show that waterborne Fe(II) did not cause severe hematological perturbation to turbot. A low-medium Fe(II) concentration (lower than 0.1 mg/L) could boost the respiratory rate, and caused no or very limited damage to fish. A high Fe(II) concentration (0.1 mg/L or higher), however, caused gill damage, such as vacuoles in branchial lamellae, epithelial necrosis, and hypertrophy of epithelial cells, and even death after extended exposure time. Therefore, excess waterborne Fe(II) and long-term exposure to Fe(II) could be responsible for poor growth and high mortality of turbot in culture. The concentration of waterborne Fe(II) in turbot culture should be kept below 0.1 mg/L.展开更多

Therefore, we decided to develop the personalized review criteria for 4 series of hematology analyzers in the same hospital, and describe all the implement procedures in detail. Methods The total 1770 blood samples were collected from Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Referring to the suggested criteria by international consensus group for hematology review ("41 rules"), the personalized review criteria for 4 series of hematology analyzers including Siemens Advia 2120, Sysmex XE-2100, Sysmex XT-1800i and Sysmex XS-800i were established and validated by adjusting the rules in order to reduce the false positive rate and keep the false negative acceptable by clinical. Results Using the "41 rules", high review rates of 37.94%, 35.56%, 33.44% and 37.94% were got respectively in Siemens Advia 2120, Sysmex XE-2100, Sysmex XT-1800i and Sysmex XS-800i. Three false positive rules mainly were observed in all of 4 analyzers: white blood cell 〈3×10^9/L or 〉30×10^9/L, platelet 〈100×10^9/L or 〉1000×10^9/L and immature granulocyte. Specialized rules were observed in different series of analyzers, atypicaVvariant lymphs flag were found mainly in Sysmex XE-2100, Aniso-RBC were found mainly in Sysmex XT-1800i, flag of "immature granulocyte" mainly in Sysmex XS-800i, Micro-RBC, Macro-RBC and Aniso-RBC mainly in Siemens Advia 2120. Rules of immature granulocyte blast, and NRBC flag would be mainly triggered by hematology malignant tumor. We could not delete these rules due to the risk of false negative of serious disease, other rules were deleted or revised. After continually optimizing to the rules, we finalized the criteria suitable for Siemens Advia 2120, Sysmex XE-2100, Sysmex XT-1800i and Sysmex XS-800i in our laboratory. The false negative rates were 2.94%, 2.86%, 3.10% and 2.78%, the review rates were 31.07%, 30.00%, 30.01% and 30.09%, and there was no hematology malignant tumor missed. Validated by 547 samples, the false negative rates of our optimized rules were 0.37%, 0.55%, 0.55%, and 0.91% respectively. Conclusion The criteria can be based on the criteria established by International Consensus Group for Hematology Review but must be optimized according to the different requirements.展开更多

Changes in hematology and muscle physiology were examined in silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) exposed to environmentally relevant levels of cadmium (0.01 mg L-1 ) for 96 h. Cadmium exposure induced significant increases in the red blood cell count, and in the plasma concentrations of cortisol, glucose, and lactate. This suggests that the dose of cadmium was sufficient to cause stress, possibly associated with impaired gas exchange at the gills. There were no changes in hemoglobin concentration or plasma protein concentration. Significant decreases in muscle energy fuels (ATP and glycogen), and increases in muscle lactate persisted until the end of the exposure period, respectively. The changes in muscle lactate and protein in silver carp differed from those observed in response to exposure of fish to cadmium and heavy metals in other studies. The study highlights the importance of selecting unpolluted release sites with suitable water conditions for the survival of newly released individuals for stock enhancement of the Xiangjiang River.展开更多

文摘In this study, normal ranges for hematology and serum biochemistry in children aged 1 to 5 years inUgandawere determined. The present study was not only the first report of serum biochemistry reference ranges for children aged one to five years in Uganda but also one of very few such studies in Africa.

文摘The hematological lesions consequent upon velogenic Newcastle disease virus (NDV) infection were investigated in 6-week-old ducks and chickens. The severity of this virus infection in chickens and the mild clinical signs and lesions presented by ducks showed that ducks are far less susceptible than chickens.

文摘The concentration of Fe(II) is high in some groundwater supplies used in turbot culture, and the toxicity of waterborne Fe(II) is unknown. The concentration of waterborne Fe(II) in turbot culture should be kept below 0.1 mg/L.
文摘Wild rodents were collected using live snap traps in pistachio gardens of Kerman Province, Southeast Iran from 2007 to 2009, then some physiological parameters of them were measured. The samples were identified as follow: Nesokia indica, Meriones persicus, Meriones lybicus and Tatera indica. Blood samples were obtained from the heart, then the blood parameters (glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein, HDL, red and white blood cell number) in wild species of rodents and laboratory rat were compared. The results showed that there were no significant differences in serum glucose, triglyceride, HDL and total protein levels among different experimental groups. The concentration of cholesterol in T. indica was more than that in N. indica (P < 0.01). The total numbers of red blood cells also showed significant difference between wild garden rodent species and laboratory rat (P < 0.01), while the numbers of white blood cells showed no significant difference.
文摘Objective To investigate the value of Sequential Organ Failure(SOFA)score and its dynamics(△SOFA)in predicting mortality in hematology care unit(HCU).Methods A retrospective clinical study was conducted on 79 critically ill hematologic patients admitted to the Center for Critical Care Medicine,Institute of Hematology&Blood Diseases Hospital,Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, between May and June 2024.SOFA scores and△SOFA were calculated within 2 days before and after HCU admission. The predictive value of SOFA and ASOFA in mortality was assessed using receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis. Results Among the 79 patients, the HCU mortality rate was 54.4%.The SOFA scores on days 1-3(Dl,D2,and D3)and ASOFAon day 1(△D_1)of all patients, leukemia patients and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT)patients were significantly higher in the death group compared with the non-death group(all P<0.05).ROC curve analysis revealed that the D_1,D_2,D_3 scores,and△D_1 significantly predicted mortality(P<0.001),with areas under the curve(AUCs)of 0.786,0.866,0.901,and 0.843,respectively.The sensitivity values were 74.36%,57.89%,62.85%,and 86.84%,while specificity values were 70%,100%,100%,and 67.65%,respectively.In the HSCT group, the D_-1,D_1,D_2,D_3,scores and△D_1 were predictive of HCU mortality, with AUCs of 0.833,0.794,0.871,0.846,and 0.795,respectively.Sensitivity values for these scores were 100%,85.71%,71.43%,57.14%,and 57.14%,while specificity values were 73.33%,70.59%,91.33%,100%,and 100%,respectively.In the leukemia group, the D_1,D_2,D_3 scores,and△D_1 were predictive of HCU mortality, with AUCs of 0.760,0.829,0.846,and 0.756,respectively.Sensitivityvalueswere71.43%,78.57%,53.85%,and 71.43%,while specificity values were 76.19%,78.95%,100%,and 63.16%,respectively.For all patients, the D_3 score exhibited the highest specificity, while the D_1 demonstrated the highest sensitivity. For patients in both the HSCT and leukemia groups, the sensitivity and specificity values of the D_1 and D_3 scores exceeded those of the D_1.Conclusion For patients with hematologic critical illness, including leukemia and those undergoing HSCT hospitalized in the HCU,D_1,D_2,D_3 scores and△D_1 are significantly associated with HCU mortality.

文摘Hematology research has greatly benefited from the integration of diverse biological data resources and advanced machine learning(ML)frameworks. This integration has not only deepened our understanding of blood diseases such as leukemia and lymphoma, but also enhanced diagnostic accuracy and personalized treatment strategies.By applying ML algorithms to analyze large-scale biological data, researchers can more effectively identify disease patterns, predict treatment responses, and provide new perspectives for the diagnosis and treatment of hematologic disorders. Here,we provide an overview of the current landscape of biological data resources and the application of ML frameworks pertinent to hematology research.
文摘Background A generally accepted guideline ("41 rules") published by the International Consensus Group for Hematology Review (ICGHR) can not be suitable for all the laboratories because the facility type, laboratory requirements, sample volume, review rate, turn around time, instrument model and characters etc. are quite different from each other, which may cause a higher workload for microscopy review or lead to false or misleading results. Conclusion The criteria can be based on the criteria established by International Consensus Group for Hematology Review but must be optimized according to the different requirements.

文摘Cadmium is a non-essential metal with a wide distribution that has severe toxic effects on aquatic animals. The study highlights the importance of selecting unpolluted release sites with suitable water conditions for the survival of newly released individuals for stock enhancement of the Xiangjiang River.
