Within the visible light wavelength range, the diffraction performance is highly dependent on the height and shape consistencies of the nanograting. However, there is still room for the improvement in the flexible control over structure formation through mechanical nanomachining within this scale. The novelty of this paper lies in proposing a machining strategy for nanograting structures with variable heights through precise regulation of the revolving trajectory using tip-based nano down-milling. It explores how different geometric features of trajectories impact the amount of material deformed into a grating and its distribution shape, referred to as undeformed grating area. By analyzing the forming mechanisms of nanogratings under various trajectories with finite element simulation, the desired undeformed grating area is successfully achieved, which is mainly extruded by the tip flank face to form the right facet of the grating, resulting in a small deformation degree and a high deformation efficiency. Three distinct types of revolving trajectories are filtered out according to five quantitative evaluation indicators for machining performance, namely material plastic deformation, grating profile consistency, grating height consistency, machining forces, and area transforming height, and then are compared in processing nanogratings with different heights. It is obtained that only by regulating the vertical vibration amplitude of the revolving trajectory, the semicircle trajectory with the optimal geometric features has the ability to machine high-quality nanograting structures with a continuous height variation of up to 220 nm in a spacing of 400 nm.展开更多

The present PDF, being a non-Rayleigh form, involves two parameters: the average wave height H— and the state parameter γ. The role of γ in the distribution of wave heights is examined. It is found that γ may be a certain measure of sea state. A least square method for determining γ from measured data is proposed. In virtue of the method, the values of γ are determined for three sea states from the data measured in the East China Sea. The present PDF is compared with the well known Rayleigh PDF of wave height and it is shown that it much better fits the data than the Rayleigh PDF. It is expected that the present PDF would fit some other wave variables, since its derivation is not restricted only to the wave height.展开更多

The new model is formed by nesting a discrete distribution in a continuous one, having eight parameters which can be determined in terms of observed data of typhoon occurrence-frequency and extreme wave heights by numerically solving two sets of equations derived in this paper. The model is examined by using it to predict the N-year return-period wave height at two hydrology stations in the Yellow Sea, and the predicted results are compared with those predicted by use of some other compound distribution models. Examinations and comparisons show that the model has some advantages for predicting the N-year return-period wave height in typhoon-affected sea areas.展开更多

Using the maximum heights of the caving zone and the water-conducting fractured zone as test indices the modulus of elasticity, the Poisson ratio, cohesion and tension strength as test factors and different values of reduction enhancement factors as test levels,an orthogonal test was designed to obtain an optimum simulation scheme. From the analysis of different values of reduction enhancement factors which affect the test indices,an optimum factor combination for modification of parameters could be inferred.By using modified parameters in our numerical simulation, the maximum heights of the caving zone and the water-conducting fractured zone in the extensive Xiyi area were determined as 15.06 m and 36.92 m.These values were almost the same as those obtained by similar material simulation(8.5 m and 37.0 m)and empirical prediction(8.4 m and 34.4 m).These results indicate that the modification of parameters is a rational method.展开更多

These parameters are assumed to be lognormal random variables. The analysis is carried out via Monte Carlo simulations coupled with the stiffness matrix method. A parametric study is conducted to derive the stochastic behavior of the peak ground acceleration and its response spectrum, the transfer function and the amplification factors. The input soil characteristics correspond to a site in Mexico City and the input seismic accelerations correspond to the Loma Prieta earthquake. It is found that the layer height heterogeneity causes a widening of the frequency content and a slight increase in the fundamental frequency of the soil profile, indicating that the resonance phenomenon is a concern for a large number of structures. Variation of the layer height randomness acts as a variation of the incident angle,i.e.,a decrease of the amplitude and a shift of the resonant frequencies.展开更多

Three typical wind speeds(below-rated, rated, and over-rated) are considered in this paper to investigate the wake meandering effects on the dynamics of two FWTs. Damage equivalent loads(DEL) of the turbine critical components are computed and analyzed for several arrangements determined by the different spacing of the four turbines. The result shows that the dynamic wake meandering significantly affects downstream turbines’ global loadings and load effects. Differences in DEL show that blade-root flapwise bending moments and mooring fairlead tensions are sensitive to the spacing of the turbines.展开更多

文摘Wuthering Heights is a highly imaginative novel of love and revenge and a shining pearl in the treasure of English literature. This thesis aims to make a full exploration of the inner and external reasons resulting in the tragic love between Catherine and Heathcliff in the novel with the application of Freud’s theory of personality structure and from metaphorically geographical, social and economic perspectives as well.Readers are expected to fully realize the destructive force of a desperate soul, better appreciate the tragic beauty of a doomed love and, above all, capture the humane light beneath a tragic drama.
文摘Since its publication, Wuthering Heights has won great popularity home and abroad for the complexity and delicacy of the narration. However, the story is not true as the unreliability of its narrator is obvious as far as it is judged by Rimmon-Kenan's theory of narrative unreliability.
文摘This practical method for calculating the probability of a wave breaking and the distribution of breaking weve heights is based on the joint probebility distribution of wave heights and periods derived by Sun Fu and the breaking criterion obtained by Ochi and Tsai from measurements of irregular waves generated in a tank. Computations for differnt an states using the P-M spectrum and the JONSWAP spectrum showed that the probability of wave basking (or the distribution of beding were heights) in the deep ocean can be determined, at least approximated, from the zero, the first and the scond moments of the wave spectrum.

文摘Utilizing the adopted average topographic density of 2670 kg/m^(3)in the reduction of gravity anomalies introduces errors attributed to topographic density variations, which consequently affect geoid modeling accuracy.Furthermore, the mean gravity along the plumbline within the topography in the definition of Helmert orthometric heights is computed approximately by applying the Poincar e-Prey gravity reduction where the topographic density variations are disregarded. The Helmert orthometric heights of benchmarks are then affected by errors. These errors could be random or systematic depending on the specific geological setting of the region where the leveling network is physically established and/or the geoid model is determined. An example of systematic errors in orthometric heights can be given for large regions characterized by sediment or volcanic deposits, the density of which is substantially lower than the adopted topographic density used in Helmert's definition of heights. The same applies to geoid modeling errors. In this study,we investigate these errors in the Hong Kong territory, where topographic density is about 20%lower than the density of 2670 kg/m^(3).We use the digital rock density model to estimate the effect of topographic density variations on the geoid and orthometric heights. Our results show that this effect on the geoid and Helmert orthometric heights reach maxima of about 2.1 and 0.5 cm,respectively. Both results provide clear evidence that rock density models are essential in physical geodesy applications involving gravimetric geoid modeling and orthometric height determination despite some criticism that could be raised regarding the reliability of these density models. However,in regions dominated by sedimentary and igneous rocks, the geological information is essential in these applications because topographic densities are substantially lower than the average density of 2670 kg/m^(3),thus introducing large systematic errors in geoid and orthometric heights.
文摘This paper reveals that the long-period statistic distribution of the characteristic heights of deep-water waves assumes the lognormal distribution. Thereafter, the largest wave-height which may occur in the service life of coastal structures is derived in this paper.
