Orthogonality conditions and analytical response solutions of damped gyroscopic double-beam system:an example of pipe-in-pipe system

The double-beam system is a crucial foundational structure in industry,with extensive application contexts and significant research value.The double-beam system with damping and gyroscopic effects is termed as the damped gyroscopic double-beam system.In such systems,the orthogonality conditions of the undamped double-beam system are no longer applicable,rendering it impossible to decouple them in modal space using the modal superposition method(MSM) to obtain analytical solutions.Based on the complex modal method and state space method,this paper takes the damped pipe-in-pipe(PIP) system as an example to solve this problem.The concepts of the original system and adjoint system are introduced,and the orthogonality conditions of the damped PIP system are given in the state-space.Based on the derived orthogonality conditions,the transient and steady-state response solutions are obtained.In the numerical discussion section,the convergence and accuracy of the solutions are verified.In addition,the dynamic responses of the system under different excitations and initial conditions are studied,and the forward and reverse synchronous vibrations in the PIP system are discussed.Overall,the method presented in this paper provides a convenient way to analyze the dynamics of the damped gyroscopic double-beam system. 展开更多

Velocity cross feedback and displacement cross feedback are used to overcomeharmful effects of nutation and precession modes, and stabilize the rotor at high rotational speeds.Theoretical analysis is given to show their effects. A control platform based on RTLinut and a PCis built to control the active magnetic bearing (AMB) system, and relevant results are reported.Using velocity cross feedback and displacement cross feedback in a closed loop control system, theflywheel successfully runs at over 20000 r/min. 展开更多

Based on an adjoint symplectic subspace iteration method of Hamiltonian gyroscopic system, an adjoint symplectic subspace iteration method of indefinite Hamiltonian function gyroscopic system was proposed to solve the eigenvalue problem of indefinite Hamiltonian function gyroscopic system. The character that the eigenvalues of Hamiltonian gyroscopic system are only pure imaginary or zero was used. The eigenvalues that Hamiltonian function is negative can be separated so that the eigenvalue problem of positive definite Hamiltonian function system was presented, and an adjoint symplectic subspace iteration method of positive definite Hamiltonian function system was used to solve the separated eigenvalue problem. Therefore, the eigenvalue problem of indefinite Hamiltonian function gyroscopic system was solved, and two numerical examples were given to demonstrate that the eigensolutions converge exactly. 展开更多

Compared with bottom-fixed wind turbines,the supporting platform of a floating offshore wind turbine has a larger range of motion,so the gyroscopic effects of the system will be more obvious.In this paper,the mathematical analytic expression of the gyroscopic moment of a floating offshore wind turbine is derived firstly.Then,FAST software is utilized to perform a numerical analysis on the model of a spar-type horizontal axis floating offshore wind turbine,OC3-Hywind,so as to verify the correctness of the theoretical analytical formula and take an investigation on the characteristics of gyroscopic effect.It is found that the gyroscopic moment of the horizontal axis floating offshore wind turbine is essentially caused by the vector change of the rotating rotor,which may be due to the pitch or yaw motion of the floating platform or the yawing motion of the nacelle.When the rotor is rotating,the pitch motion of the platform mainly excites the gyroscopic moment in the rotor’s yaw direction,and the yaw motion of the platform largely excites the rotor’s gyroscopic moment in pitch direction,accordingly.The results show that the gyroscopic moment of the FOWT is roughly linearly related to the rotor’s inertia,the rotor speed,and the angular velocity of the platform motion. 展开更多

Therefore, online method of motion planning is necessary for such UA- Vs. Gyroscopic force (GF) is used for obstacle avoidance as an online method. However, classical GF has shortcoming in generating orbit for UAV with high velocity because the GF results in a time- varying turning radius. Modified gyroscopic force (MGF) given by function of velocity can overcome this shortcoming and help get a more practical control law for avoidance. MGF can also be used to implement the guidance of UAV by designing particular active conditions. Interactions in forms of stress function and damping force are introduced so that an UAV group can have coordinated motion. By combining controls of MGF and interactions, motion planning of UAV group in obstacle environ- ment can be implemented. 展开更多

Based on Arnoldi's method, a version of generalized Arnoldi algorithm has been developed for the reduction of gyroscopic eigenvalue problems. By utilizing the skew symmetry of system matrix, a very simple recurrence scheme, named gyroscopic Arnoldi reduction algorithm has been obtained, which is even simpler than the Lanczos algorithm for symmetric eigenvalue problems. The complex number computation is completely avoided. A restart technique is used to enable the reduction algorithm to have iterative characteristics. It has been found that the restart technique is not only effective for the convergence of multiple eigenvalues but it also furnishes the reduction algorithm with a technique to check and compute missed eigenvalues. By combining it with the restart technique, the algorithm is made practical for large-scale gyroscopic eigenvalue problems. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method proposed. 展开更多

This paper studies the title problem including an analysis of the gyroscopic effects of the wheels of a rail-car travelling at high-speed around a level, horizontal curve. The analysis is based upon the fundamental principles of dynamics. The result is a design formula for the minimum curve radius needed to prevent derailment. Aside from the rail car geometric and physical properties, the minimum curve radius depends upon the square the train speed. An illustrative example shows that the wheel gyroscopic effect is destabilizing and additive to the centrifugal force derailment tendency. From a track design perspective, however, the gyroscopic effect is relatively small compared with the centrifugal force effect. 展开更多

Mechanics of the Gyroscopic Precession and Calculation of the Galactic Mass

A spinning gyroscope precesses about the vertical due to a torque acting upon the wheel. The torque is generated by the shift of moment of force by gravity and it points to the vertical instead of the tangential direction of precession. This intuition offers an alternative and straightforward view of precession dynamics in comparison with the literature. It also presumes a dynamic balance of momentum between circular motions of the wheel spin and precession. Accordingly, the gyroscopic dynamics is then applied to the study of galactic motion of the solar system in space and the Galactic mass is calculated with the inclusion of gyroscopic effect of the solar planets. Results indicate that the gyroscopic effect of Mercury orbiting around the Sun can increase the calculated Galactic mass by 23% in comparison with the result obtained by the classic approach. 展开更多

The current research of the valveless piezoelectric pump focuses on increasing the flow rate and pressure differential. Compared with the valve piezoelectric pump, the valveless one has excellent performances in simple structure, low cost, and easy miniaturization. So, their important development trend is the mitigation of their weakness, and the multi-function integration. The flow in a spiral tube element is sensitive to the element attitude caused by the Coriolis force, and that a valveless piezoelectric pump is designed by applying this phenomenon. The pump has gyroscopic effect, and has both the actuator function of fluid transfer and the sensor function, which can obtain the angular velocity when its attitude changes. First, the present paper analyzes the flow characteristics in the tube, obtains the calculation formula for the pump flow, and identifies the relationship between pump attitude and flow, which clarifies the impact of flow and driving voltage, frequency, spiral line type and element attitude, and verifies the gyroscopic effect of the pump. Then, the finite element simulation is used to verify the theory. Finally, a pump is fabricated for experimental testing of the relationship between pump attitude and pressure differential. Experimental results show that when Archimedes spiral θ=4π is selected for the tube design, and the rotation speed of the plate is 70 r/min, the pressure differential is 88.2 Pa, which is 1.5 times that of 0 r/min rotation speed. The spiral-tube-type valveless piezoelectric pump proposed can turn the element attitude into a form of pressure output, which is important for the multi-function integration of the valveless piezoelectric pump and for the development of civil gyroscope in the future. 展开更多

Unusual one-way edge states have been observed in composite structures composed of periodic lattices loaded with gyroscopes.Here, we provide a continuum-mechanics understanding to the one-way edge state by formulating surface state equations of acoustic gyroscopic mediums with Hermite mass density tensor. We discover that the unidirectional edge effect arises from nontrivial off-diagonal components of Hermite densities, which causes the symmetric breaking of surface wave propagation towards forward and backward directions. Theoretical predictions on the velocity and decay length of surface waves coincide excellently with numerical simulations. The unidirectional edge state in a two-interface gyroscopic medium is also analyzed.Due to the rotational symmetry in geometry, the unidirectional edge state on one interface is able to prevent itself from the coupling to surface waves on the other interface regardless of the slab thickness. With these anomalous effects, surface waves residing on gyroscopic mediums can flow around the edge defects without back-scatterings, or can be split into two beams of equal energy magnitudes. Our findings may make a bridge that would help to reach the design of non-reciprocal composite materials via an effective medium approach. 展开更多

Stabilizing Agricultural Robots Against Intense Rollovers With Control Moment Gyro

Rollover accidents involving agricultural wheeled robots,accompanied by severe mechanical impacts,pose serious threats to operational safety and reduce functional efficiency.To address this issue,an active rollover prevention strategy is proposed,utilizing a single‐gimbal control moment gyro(SGCMG),to stabilize typical agricultural robots and prevent potential rollovers.To match the free oscillation of the pivot front axle,a novel recovery torque model of the coupled robot‐SGCMG system is established,in which two patterns are introduced to refine the rollover process with uncertain parameters.Additionally,a lateral stability index is adopted and analyzed to assess the hazard level of potential rollovers.Aimed at handling uncertain parameters and hazard levels,an adaptive backstepping control strategy is developed for real‐time anti‐rollover implementation.Within this strategy,control gains are adaptively tuned based on theoretical derivations,thereby suppressing rollover tendency while minimizing tuning effort.For verification,a scaled experimental platform,designed according to similarity theory,is constructed to ensure safety of personnel and equipment.Experimental results show that the proposed method can precisely regulate the output torque of the gyro,rapidly and effectively mitigating the risk of imminent rollover.This method provides a promising solution for wheeled robot stability and a theoretical basis for advanced safety control in agricultural robotics. 展开更多

The spin-exchange relaxation-free atomic gyroscope,with its exceptionally high theoretical precision,demonstrates immense potential to become the next-generation strategic-grade gyroscope.However,due to technological noise,there is still a significant gap between its actual precision and theoretical precision.This study identifies the key factor limiting the precision of the SERF gyroscope as coupling noise.By optimizing the detection loop structure,a distinction between the dual-axis signals'response to optical and magnetic fields was achieved-where the optical errors responded similarly,while the response to magnetic noise was opposite.Based on the differences in the optical-magnetic response of the dual-axis signals,empirical mode decomposition was used to decompose the dual-axis gyroscope signals into multiple intrinsic mode functions,and Allan deviation analysis was applied to analyze the noise characteristics of the intrinsic mode functions over various periods.This study successfully reveals that optical errors caused by thermal-optical coupling and long-period magnetic noise induced by thermal-magnetic coupling are the dominant factors limiting the long-term stability of the SERF gyroscope.Based on these analyses,the study concludes that to achieve strategic-grade precision for the SERF gyroscope,it is essential to effectively address the noise issues caused by multi-physical field couplings. 展开更多

Temperature error compensation method for fiber optic gyroscope based on a composite model of k-means,support vector regression and particle swarm optimization

As the core component of inertial navigation systems, fiber optic gyroscope (FOG), with technical advantages such as low power consumption, long lifespan, fast startup speed, and flexible structural design, are widely used in aerospace, unmanned driving, and other fields. However, due to the temper-ature sensitivity of optical devices, the influence of environmen-tal temperature causes errors in FOG, thereby greatly limiting their output accuracy. This work researches on machine-learn-ing based temperature error compensation techniques for FOG. Specifically, it focuses on compensating for the bias errors gen-erated in the fiber ring due to the Shupe effect. This work pro-poses a composite model based on k-means clustering, sup-port vector regression, and particle swarm optimization algo-rithms. And it significantly reduced redundancy within the sam-ples by adopting the interval sequence sample. Moreover, met-rics such as root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), bias stability, and Allan variance, are selected to evaluate the model’s performance and compensation effective-ness. This work effectively enhances the consistency between data and models across different temperature ranges and tem-perature gradients, improving the bias stability of the FOG from 0.022 °/h to 0.006 °/h. Compared to the existing methods utiliz-ing a single machine learning model, the proposed method increases the bias stability of the compensated FOG from 57.11% to 71.98%, and enhances the suppression of rate ramp noise coefficient from 2.29% to 14.83%. This work improves the accuracy of FOG after compensation, providing theoretical guid-ance and technical references for sensors error compensation work in other fields. 展开更多

Vibration-induced bias deviation,which is generated by intensity fluctuations and additional phase differences,is one of the vital errors for fiber optic gyroscopes(FOGs)operating in vibration environment and has severely restricted the applications of high-precision FOGs.The conventional methods for suppressing vibration-induced errors mostly concentrate on reinforcing the mechanical structure and optical path as well as the compensation under some specific operation parameters,which have very limited effects for high-precision FOGs maintaining performances under vibration.In this work,a technique of suppressing the vibration-induced bias deviation through removing the part related to the varying gain from the rotation-rate output is put forward.Particularly,the loop gain is extracted out by adding a gain-monitoring wave.By demodulating the loop gain and the rotation rate simultaneously under distinct frequencies and investigating their quantitative relationship,the vibrationinduced bias error is compensated without limiting the operating parameters or environments,like the applied modulation depth.The experimental results show that the proposed method has achieved the reduction of bias error from about 0.149°/h to0.014°/h during the random vibration with frequencies from20 Hz to 2000 Hz.This technique provides a feasible route for enhancing the performances of high-precision FOGs heading towards high environmental adaptability. 展开更多

This study presents a kinematic calibration method for exoskeletal inertial motion capture (EI-MoCap) system with considering the random colored noise such as gyroscopic drift.In this method, the geometric parameters are calibrated by the traditional calibration method at first. Then, in order to calibrate the parameters affected by the random colored noise, the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm is introduced. Through the use of geometric parameters calibrated by the traditional calibration method, the iterations under the EM framework are decreased and the efficiency of the proposed method on embedded system is improved. The performance of the proposed kinematic calibration method is compared to the traditional calibration method. Furthermore, the feasibility of the proposed method is verified on the EI-MoCap system. The simulation and experiment demonstrate that the motion capture precision is significantly improved by 16.79%and 7.16%respectively in comparison to the traditional calibration method. 展开更多

The dynamic balance assessment during the assembly of the coordinator gyroscope significantly impacts the guidance accuracy of precision-guided equipment.In dynamic balance debugging,reliance on rudimentary counterweight empirical formulas persists,resulting in suboptimal debugging accuracy and an increased repetition rate.To mitigate this challenge,we present a multi-head residual graph attention network(ResGAT)model,designed to predict dynamic balance counterweights with high precision.In this research,we employ graph neural networks for interaction feature extraction from assembly graph data.An SDAE-GPC model is designed for the assembly condition classification to derive graph data inputs for the ResGAT regression model,which is capable of predicting gyroscope counterweights under small-sample conditions.The results of our experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in predicting dynamic gyroscope counterweight in its assembly process.Our approach surpasses current methods in mitigating repetition rates and enhancing the assembly efficiency of gyroscopes. 展开更多

The dynamic range of the nuclear magnetic resonance gyroscope can be effectively improved through the closedloop control scheme,which is crucial to its application in inertial measurement.This paper presents the analytical transfer function of Xe closed-loop system in the nuclear magnetic resonance gyroscope considering Rb–Xe coupling effect.It not only considers the dynamic characteristics of the system more comprehensively,but also adds the influence of the practical filters in the gyro signal processing system,which can obtain the accurate response characteristics of signal frequency and amplitude at the same time.The numerical results are compared with an experimentally verified simulation program,which indicate great agreement.The research results of this paper are of great significance to the practical application and development of the nuclear magnetic resonance gyroscope. 展开更多
