Introduction: Renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR) is responsible for injuries such as destruction or dysfunction of tubular epithelial cells with inflammatory reaction and oxidative stress. Several therapeutic methods have been tested to alleviate ischemia-perfusion injury, ranging from using anti-inflammatory drugs, antioxidants, and plants from traditional pharmacopeia to administering RNA interference. However, there is currently no effective therapeutic option available for the treatment of renal IR injury, other than supportive therapies such as renal replacement therapy or hydration. Objective: This present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Guiera senegalensis on renal ischemia reperfusion, a recognized plant for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four (24) adult male Wistar rats were divided into four following groups: SLAM (subjected to a median laparotomy with simulated ischemia);GUIERRA (animals that received 250 mg/kg of guierra senegalensis orally, once a day, for 5 days, with simulated renal ischemia);IR (animals that underwent laparotomy followed by clamping of bilateral renal pedicles for 45 min and followed by reperfusion);GUIERRA + IR (animals given GUIERRA at the dosage of 250 mg/kg per day, for 5 days and then subjected to renal ischemia-reperfusion). Data analysis was performed by ANOVA, and a significance level of p Results: Compared with the I/R group, rats in the GUIERRA + IR group showed reduced histopathological damage scores (p Conclusion: The results of this preliminary work suggest that Guiera senegalensis decreases the degree of tissue damage in renal ischemia-reperfusion cases. This plant seems to be a promising therapeutic;further studies could help to precise the targets of its compounds on ischemia-reperfusion pathways. 展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the effect of aqueous leaf extract of Guiera senegalensis(G.senegalensis)on gastric mucosal damage using different ulcer models. Methods:Considering the above claims, the present study was undertaken to validate the gastroprotective potential of the aqueous leaf extract of this plant against ethanol, water immersion and Aspirin induced ulcer models. Results:The leaf extract(50,100 and 200 mg/kg,p.o.)significantly(P<0.05)decreased the ulcer index in all assays used. Conclusions:The results obtained, provide strong evidence of antiulcer activity of the leaf extract of G.senegalensis and support the traditional uses of the plant for the treatment of ulcer. 展开更多

Traditional medicine is a reliable source for treating many diseases in Sudan. It is widely recognized in Sudan,as no Sudanese house is devoid of medicinal herbs. The Sudanese people and their historical stock of knowledge are distinguished by their knowledge and the many applications of herbs in treatment. This reference paper aims to collect all the available information about the use of medicinal plants in Sudan to treat disease or prevent it.Sudanese medicinal plants include a variety of plants and there are many medicinal applications for these plants in the world.According to the information reached by the paper, there are many therapeutic medical applications of these plants in the treatment of various bacterial infections, including digestive diseases, malaria, diabetes, rheumatic pain, respiratory diseases, jaundice, urinary tract infections, wounds, cancer and various microbial infections, according to the information reached by the paper. This reference is for a few groups of Sudanese medicinal plants such as tamarind, hibiscus,Acacia nilotica,Combretum hartmannianum, and Guiera senegalensis, etc. This review article also showed that these plants contain many biologically active substances as active ingredients, including flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, stimulants, terpenes, tannins, fatty acids and essential oils.Even though Sudanese people use herbal medicine to treat a wide range of illnesses, more research is needed to show that these plants are safe and effective for people to use.For example, phytochemical analysis, biochemical activity tests and toxicology studies should be done to show that these plants are safe and effective for people to use. 展开更多

Plant biodiversity plays a major role for sustaining livelihood of rural population. However, unsustainable exploitation of woody plants for firewood in Niger is creating ecological challenges. This study aims to evaluate plant species composition, richness and equitability for sustainable and inclusive management in rural areas.Plot vegetation inventory method was employed.Forty-eight plots each measuring 2500 m^(2)were laid down systematically on a transect with the village at the centre. On each plot, plant species were identified and the number of each species counted.A total of twenty-five(25)plant species belonging to thirteen(13)families were identified among which Guiera senegalensis J.F.Gmel.accounted for 61%.The Shannon index was low(H’=0.45)as well as species equitability(E=0.14).Species richness differed significantly(p<0.000)with land use type with agroforestry parklands recording significantly higher species compared to plateaus. For effective plant biodiversity restoration and management, irrigated agroforestry is recommended to restore ecological balance and to assure and improve the quality of plant biodiversity in the study area. 展开更多
