Estimating bird abundance is key to assess threats,and to prioritize conservation actions.However,few studies focus on this topic,particularly in developing countries,which may hamper conservation efficiency.We used d...Estimating bird abundance is key to assess threats,and to prioritize conservation actions.However,few studies focus on this topic,particularly in developing countries,which may hamper conservation efficiency.We used data collected from Guangdong Province,China,between 2000 and 2020 to estimate bird abundance using MaxEnt modelling.In total,258 bird species were included,with an average density of 1485.2±489.3 ind./km^(2)(range:242.9-4502.2 ind./km^(2)).The highest density occurred in the Pearl River Estuary and on the Leizhou Peninsula.For forest birds,203 species were included with an average density of 1236.2±424.5 ind./km^(2)(143.7-2373.1 ind./km^(2)),and highest densities were found in the Pearl River Estuary and North River regions.For the 55 species of waterbirds,the average density was 249.0±351.8 ind./km^(2)(0.3-2336.1 ind./km^(2)).The total number of birds in Guangdong was estimated to be 2.58×108 ind.(2.24-3.06×10^(8)),with a total number of forest birds estimated to be 2.15×10^(8)ind.(1.90-2.49×10^(8)).The most abundant forest species(>107 individuals)were:Huet's Fulvetta(Alcippe hueti)with 2.84×10^(7)ind.,(range:2.73-2.95×10~7),Light-vented Bulbul(Pycnonotus sinensis)with 1.13×10^(7)ind.(1.07-1.20×10^(7)),Swinhoe's White-eye(Zosterops simplex)with 1.13×10^(7)ind.(1.09-1.17×10^(7)),and Red-whiskered Bulbul(Pycnonotus jocosus)with 1.01×10^(7)ind.(9.66-10.47×10^(6)),The total number of waterbirds in Guangdong was estimated to be 4.37×10^(7)ind.(3.38-5.75×10^(7)).The most abundant waterbirds(>106 individuals)were Black-headed Gull(Chroicocephalus ridibundus)with 6.35×10^(6)ind.(5.48-7.36×10^(6)),Pied Avocet(Recurvirostra avosetta)with 5.56×10^(6)ind.(3.75-8.24×10^(6)),and Little Egret(Egretta garzetta)with 5.01×10^(6)ind.(4.19-6.00×10^(6)).The densities and abundances of the 41 species listed as threatened in IUCN(higher than NT)or Chinese National Protected lists(higher thanⅡ)were evaluated,of which the population sizes of nine species were estimated for the first time in Guangdong.Moreover,all 41 species'average densities significantly declined from 2012 to 2017 in Nanling National Natural Reserve,Guangdong.展开更多

BACKGROUND Female depression is a prevalent and increasingly recognized mental health issue.Due to cultural and social factors,many female patients still face challenges in diagnosis and treatment,and traditional asse...BACKGROUND Female depression is a prevalent and increasingly recognized mental health issue.Due to cultural and social factors,many female patients still face challenges in diagnosis and treatment,and traditional assessment methods often fail to identify high-risk individuals accurately.This highlights the necessity of developing more precise predictive tools.Utilizing machine learning(ML)algorithms to construct predictive models may overcome the limitations of traditional methods,providing more comprehensive support for women’s mental health.AIM To construct an ML-nomogram hybrid model that translates multivariate risk predictors of female depressive symptoms into actionable clinical scoring thresholds,optimizing predictive accuracy and interpretability for healthcare applications.METHODS We analyzed data from 7609 female participants aged 18 to 85 years from the Guangdong Provincial Sleep and Psychosomatic Health Survey.Sixteen variables,including anxiety symptoms,insomnia,chronic diseases,exercise habits,and age,were selected based on prior literature and comprehensively incorporated into ML models to maximize predictive information utilization.Three ML algorithms,extreme gradient boosting,support vector machine,and light gradient boosting machine,were employed to construct predictive models.Model performance was evaluated using accuracy,precision,recall,F1 score,and area under the curve(AUC).Feature importance was interpreted using SHapley Additive exPlanations(SHAP),with ablation studies validating the impact of the top five SHAPderived features on predictive performance,and a nomogram was constructed based on these prioritized predictors.Clinical utility was assessed through decision curve analysis.RESULTS The prevalence of depressive symptoms was 6.8%among the sample.The evaluation of predictive models revealed that light gradient boosting machine achieved a top-performing AUC of 0.867,placing it ahead of extreme gradient boosting(AUC=0.862)and support vector machine(AUC=0.849).SHAP analysis identified insomnia,anxiety symptoms,age,chronic disease,and exercise as the top five predictors.The nomogram based on these features demonstrated excellent discrimination(AUC=0.910)and calibration,with significant net benefits in decision curve analysis compared to baseline strategies.The model effectively stratifies depressive symptoms risk,facilitating personalized and quantitative assessments in clinical settings.We also developed an interactive digital version of the nomogram to facilitate its application in clinical practice.CONCLUSION The ML-based model effectively predicts depressive symptoms in women,identifying insomnia,anxiety symptoms,age,chronic diseases,and exercise as key predictors,offering a practical tool for early detection and intervention.展开更多

Over recent decades,the increasing frequency and intensity of Harmful Algal Blooms(HABs)have resulted in severe environmental impacts worldwide.Understanding the physical drivers of HABs is crucial for understanding t...Over recent decades,the increasing frequency and intensity of Harmful Algal Blooms(HABs)have resulted in severe environmental impacts worldwide.Understanding the physical drivers of HABs is crucial for understanding their dynamics and mitigating their environmental consequences.This study integrates satellite remote sensing and hydrodynamic modeling to investigate two HAB events and their driving mechanisms in Guangdong coastal waters during February and August 2021.An HAB detection method using Sentinel-3 ocean and land color instrument data based on an improved floating algae index algorithm was developed.The spatiotemporal dynamics of physical drivers were analyzed using a submesoscale permitting regional ocean modeling system hydrodynamic simulation.Both HAB detection results and hydrodynamic simulations were validated against in situ buoy measurements.In coastal area of Jiangmen City,local changes of divergence,impacts from the Zhujiang River(Pearl River)fresh water plume were found to be drivers accounted for long-termed variations of chlorophyll and triggers for HABs,while changes in vertical mixing associated with wind speed regulate the short-termed changes.In coastal area of Shantou City,initiations of HABs were mainly driven by wind-induced coastal upwelling.Distribution,aggregation and elongation of HAB patches were modulated by surface fronts and vortices induced by fresh water plume and complex coastlines.These findings underscore the advantages of integrating satellite remote sensing,3D hydrodynamic modeling,and in situ observations for elucidating the complex physical mechanisms governing HAB dynamics in coastal waters.展开更多

The agricultural water footprint(AWF)is intricately linked to water-related Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).This study developed a multi-dimensional indicator framework integrating AWF with social,economic,and eco...The agricultural water footprint(AWF)is intricately linked to water-related Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).This study developed a multi-dimensional indicator framework integrating AWF with social,economic,and ecological metrics to elucidate the spatiotemporal evolution of agricultural water sustainability in Guangdong Province,China,from 2010 to 2020.By disaggregating AWF into green(soil moisture),blue(surface/groundwater),and grey(pollution-related)components,we identified the dominate drivers of sustainability transitions and proposed context-specific policy interventions.Key findings include:1)a 6.98%reduction in total AWF(from 19.35 to 18.00 km^(3))was detected,accompanied by a 14.46%improvement in the agricultural water sustainability level.2)Green water dominated(78.28%of total footprint)the AWF,while blue(19.29%)and grey water(2.43%)contributed less and exhibited lowered degree of spatial variability;3)Within the crop system,rice(Oryza sativa)accounted for nearly 60%of the AWF,and veget-ables(Vegetabilia)shared around 20%,while the rest three crops(peanut(Arachis hypogaea),banana(Musa acuminata)and oranges(Citrus sinensis))contributed another 20%.4)Western Guangdong consumed higher AWF per area,reaching 1.59 times the provincial average due to the climate and cropping system,whereas eastern regions consumed disproportionate blue water,around 1.76 times the provincial average for irrigated crop production.Optimizing AWF governance strengthens food security by enhancing blue water utiliz-ation efficiency in rice production is recommended,especially in eastern Guangdong.The formulation of rice-specific AWF bench-marks facilitates data-driven water resource policies,while strategic greywater management interventions would effectively reduce en-vironmental burdens.Context-specific strategies,such as incorporating organic fertilizer promotion,integrating constructed wetlands,rainwater capture infrastructure,and market-based regulatory tools would synergistically improve crop productivity,diminish pollutant loads,and bolster agricultural water sustainability.展开更多

文摘With the rapid growth of the cosmetics industry,the demand for diversified and interdisciplinary talent is increasing.However,a structural mismatch persists between current educational approaches and industry needs,particularly in aligning with the holistic education model,which emphasizes moral,intellectual,physical,aesthetic,and labor development.To bridge this gap,Guangdong Pharmaceutical University has implemented a comprehensive reform of its holistic education system,aiming to cultivate well-rounded cosmetics professionals.Key initiatives include integrating professional ethics into moral education,strengthening the integration of theory and practice in intellectual training,emphasizing skin health management in physical education,enhancing aesthetic appreciation and creative thinking,and promoting labor spirit and practical skills through hands-on experiences.These reform efforts have yielded significant results,contributing high-quality talent to the cosmetics industry and offering a valuable model for other institutions seeking to align education with industry demands.

文摘Over recent decades,the increasing frequency and intensity of Harmful Algal Blooms(HABs)have resulted in severe environmental impacts worldwide.Understanding the physical drivers of HABs is crucial for understanding their dynamics and mitigating their environmental consequences.This study integrates satellite remote sensing and hydrodynamic modeling to investigate two HAB events and their driving mechanisms in Guangdong coastal waters during February and August 2021.An HAB detection method using Sentinel-3 ocean and land color instrument data based on an improved floating algae index algorithm was developed.The spatiotemporal dynamics of physical drivers were analyzed using a submesoscale permitting regional ocean modeling system hydrodynamic simulation.Both HAB detection results and hydrodynamic simulations were validated against in situ buoy measurements.In coastal area of Jiangmen City,local changes of divergence,impacts from the Zhujiang River(Pearl River)fresh water plume were found to be drivers accounted for long-termed variations of chlorophyll and triggers for HABs,while changes in vertical mixing associated with wind speed regulate the short-termed changes.In coastal area of Shantou City,initiations of HABs were mainly driven by wind-induced coastal upwelling.Distribution,aggregation and elongation of HAB patches were modulated by surface fronts and vortices induced by fresh water plume and complex coastlines.These findings underscore the advantages of integrating satellite remote sensing,3D hydrodynamic modeling,and in situ observations for elucidating the complex physical mechanisms governing HAB dynamics in coastal waters.

文摘The agricultural water footprint(AWF)is intricately linked to water-related Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).This study developed a multi-dimensional indicator framework integrating AWF with social,economic,and ecological metrics to elucidate the spatiotemporal evolution of agricultural water sustainability in Guangdong Province,China,from 2010 to 2020.By disaggregating AWF into green(soil moisture),blue(surface/groundwater),and grey(pollution-related)components,we identified the dominate drivers of sustainability transitions and proposed context-specific policy interventions.Key findings include:1)a 6.98%reduction in total AWF(from 19.35 to 18.00 km^(3))was detected,accompanied by a 14.46%improvement in the agricultural water sustainability level.2)Green water dominated(78.28%of total footprint)the AWF,while blue(19.29%)and grey water(2.43%)contributed less and exhibited lowered degree of spatial variability;3)Within the crop system,rice(Oryza sativa)accounted for nearly 60%of the AWF,and veget-ables(Vegetabilia)shared around 20%,while the rest three crops(peanut(Arachis hypogaea),banana(Musa acuminata)and oranges(Citrus sinensis))contributed another 20%.4)Western Guangdong consumed higher AWF per area,reaching 1.59 times the provincial average due to the climate and cropping system,whereas eastern regions consumed disproportionate blue water,around 1.76 times the provincial average for irrigated crop production.Optimizing AWF governance strengthens food security by enhancing blue water utiliz-ation efficiency in rice production is recommended,especially in eastern Guangdong.The formulation of rice-specific AWF bench-marks facilitates data-driven water resource policies,while strategic greywater management interventions would effectively reduce en-vironmental burdens.Context-specific strategies,such as incorporating organic fertilizer promotion,integrating constructed wetlands,rainwater capture infrastructure,and market-based regulatory tools would synergistically improve crop productivity,diminish pollutant loads,and bolster agricultural water sustainability.
