Mapping Research Trends in Green Packaging:A Bibliometric Review(2000–2023)

With over 141 million tons of packaging waste generated globally each year and limited recycling efficiency,packaging pollution has become a pressing environmental issue,driving increased scholarly interest in green packaging.However,existing studies have primarily focused on individual domains,lacking a systematic and comprehensive review,which restricts interdisciplinary integration and obscures overarching trends and gaps.To address this,we conducted a bibliometric analysis of green packaging research using CiteSpace and VOSviewer,drawing on peer-reviewed English-language articles published between 2000 and 2023 in the Web of Science Core Collection.The analysis examined collaboration networks,co-citation patterns,and keyword co-occurrence trends.Results reveal significant growth in publications since 2018,with research spanning environmental science,food technology,and business,alongside increasing interdisciplinary integration.Collaboration networks are particularly strong within China and Malaysia,though international collaboration remains limited,while co-citation analysis highlights high-impact work on material performance,consumer behavior,and supply chain strategies,with life cycle assessment emerging as the most widely applied analytical tool.This study synthesizes the current knowledge framework,identifies key trends and challenges,and outlines future research directions-including consumer payment behavior,corporate sustainability strategies,and the development of innovative packaging materials-providing strategic guidance for advancing green packaging research. 展开更多

The environmental issues associated with packaging materials have been attracting increasing attention.Life cycle assessment( LCA) is currently the main method used worldwide for evaluating green packaging materials. In this study,the LCA method was used to evaluate the environmental impact of Baosteel’s newly developed process for manufacturing film-laminated steel packaging materials,from raw material mining,production,and processing to their storage,consumption,recycling,and final disposal. The environmental performance and main influencing factors were analyzed and compared. In addition,the life cycle environmental characteristics of film-laminated steel cans,tin-plated steel cans,and aluminum cans were compared. Of the main environmental indicators of the life cycle of the film-laminated steel can,the environmental load of the substrate accounts for the largest proportion,follow ed by electricity. The environmental impact of the production of film materials cannot be ignored. The overall environmental performance of film-laminated steel cans is better than that of aluminum cans. 展开更多

Innovative application of the Echinacea purpurea (L.) extract-phospholipid phytosomes embedded within Alyssum homolocarpum seed gum film for enhancing the shelf life of chicken meat 被引量:1

To the best of our knowledge, “phytosomal” encapsulation of extracts in edible films has not been applied for enhancing the shelf life of food products by now;as a result, phytosomal encapsulation was used in this research to bring about a sustainable release of the extract from the edible film and prompt a significant shelf life enhancement. For this purpose, first, the Alyssum homolocarpum seed gum (AHSG) film was enriched with various levels (1–20% w/w) of Echinacea purpurea (L.) extract-phospholipid phytosome (EEPP) and, then, the structural (FTIR and SEM), thermal, physicochemical, mechanical and radical scavenging properties of the films as well as release kinetics of the extracts from the films were evaluated. Then, the chicken meat was packaged with the developed film and its different parameters including microbial population, chemical indices (TBARS and pH) as well as sensory properties of the meat were compared with those of the control film. Based on the results, as the EEPP percentage increased, water solubility, moisture content, water vapor permeability of AHSG films decreased favorably, and their tensile strength enhanced successfully. Besides, incorporation of EEPP improved the radical scavenging properties and melting point of the base film considerably. Structural surveys revealed that some chemical interactions (hydrogen bonds) occurred between EEPP and AHSG matrix. A two-fold increase in the shelf life of meat was recognized as the microbial and chemical indices of the developed film after 14 days were even better than those indices of the control film after 7 days. 展开更多
