Over the past century,advancements in chemistry have significantly propelled human innovation,enhancing both industrial and consumer products.However,this rapid progression has resulted in chemical pollution increasin...Over the past century,advancements in chemistry have significantly propelled human innovation,enhancing both industrial and consumer products.However,this rapid progression has resulted in chemical pollution increasingly surpassing planetary boundaries,as production and release rates have outpaced our monitoring capabilities.To catalyze more impactful efforts,this study transitions from traditional chemical assessment to inverse chemical design,introducing a generative graph latent diffusion model aimed at discovering safer alternatives.In a case study on the design of green solvents for cyclohexane/benzene extraction distillation,we constructed a design database encompassing functional,environmental hazards,and process constraints.Virtual screening of previous design dataset revealed distinct trade-off trends between these design requirements.Based on the screening outcomes,an unconstrained generative model was developed,which covered a broader chemical space and demonstrated superior capabilities for structural interpolation and extrapolation.To further optimize molecular generation towards desired properties,a multi-objective latent diffusion method was applied,yielding 19 candidate molecules.Of these,7 were identified in PubChem as the most viable green solvent candidates,while the remaining 12 as potential novel candidates.Overall,this study effectively designed green solvent candidates for safer and more sustainable industrial production,setting a promising precedent for the development of environmentally friendly alternatives in other areas of chemical research.展开更多

For a long time, the independence of the two is more prominent than their organic connection. This research has made preliminary considerations from three aspects. First, it concerns infusing the concept of ecology, contemplating and demonstrating space, as well as reducing the incidence of plant diseases and insect pests of urban green land. Second, the arrangement of flowers and trees for the planning and design of urban green land should comply with the biological attributes of flowers and trees to realize the organic unification of biological and scenic attributes of flowers and trees. Third, the planning and design of urban green land should attach importance to the organic unification of biological and scenic attributes of lawn grass seeds and reduce the difficulty of maintaining lawn. This research attempts to reduce the pressure of maintaining urban green land from the beginning, i.e. the planning and design of urban green land. Studies investigating the benefits of green buildings can be approached by the affor-dance theory-the perceived properties of a thing that determine how it could pos-sibly be used.This study focuses on the sustainable...Studies investigating the benefits of green buildings can be approached by the affor-dance theory-the perceived properties of a thing that determine how it could pos-sibly be used.This study focuses on the sustainable communication and education that a green building should provide.By applying the affordance theory,we examined whether a LEED-certified university campus building effectively communicates green design and sustainability to its users and if so,then how?We employed a question-naire survey targeting campus users of a LEED-certified building by examining their awareness of the building’s LEED status and perception of green design elements at multiple spatial scales,as well as their general knowledge on green building topics.We collected 177 questionnaires,of which 153 were qualified for statistical analysis.The results suggested that the building itself can afford to promote awareness among users,but cannot afford to educate users on general green building knowledge.We found that building users perceived green design at different spatial scales,preferring either product or space-related design.Our results indicate that future design should continue promoting the use of educational signage,which was found to be the most effective communicator of sustainability.The communication of green design to users with different spatial preferences remains a future research focus.Further studies on the innovative use of green building design as effective communicators are needed to promote sustainability education among the building users.展开更多
The selection of the project delivery method(PDM)for any project is critical—it establishes the communication,coordination,and contractual interfaces between the owner,contractor,and designer.With an increase in the ...The selection of the project delivery method(PDM)for any project is critical—it establishes the communication,coordination,and contractual interfaces between the owner,contractor,and designer.With an increase in the number of green design projects,understanding the relationship between the PDM and green design is paramount to project and contract management.While it is reasonable to assume that a relationship between green design and design-build(DB)exists since both theoretically are intended to foster an integrated,holistic,team-based collaborative project;it is also appropriate to understand the relationship between green design and other PDMs.This preliminary research examined possible relationships between design-bid-build(DBB),construction management(CM),and DB PDMs and green design with the goal of beginning to identify potential positive correspondence between them.To develop an initial understanding,two main tasks were completed.First,existing published research was evaluated to reveal aspects of projects and PDMs independent of green design.Second,the research collected primarily qualitative information by conducting structured interviews with approximately twenty-five individuals,including owners,contractors,and designers involved in completed green design projects,mainly in the public sector.Upon completion of the structured interviews,responses from the interviews were reviewed for green design project characteristics.Additionally,the interviews provided insight on the initial understanding of the current state of knowledge and experience in green design and PDMs.After the two main tasks were completed,both were evaluated for commonalities.Preliminary results found that seven green design project characteristics emerged that in some cases related to a specific PDM,but in other cases were independent of a PDM.Future research will quantitatively investigate the relationship between green design projects,PDMs,and success factors.展开更多

文摘Studies investigating the benefits of green buildings can be approached by the affor-dance theory-the perceived properties of a thing that determine how it could pos-sibly be used.This study focuses on the sustainable communication and education that a green building should provide.By applying the affordance theory,we examined whether a LEED-certified university campus building effectively communicates green design and sustainability to its users and if so,then how?We employed a question-naire survey targeting campus users of a LEED-certified building by examining their awareness of the building’s LEED status and perception of green design elements at multiple spatial scales,as well as their general knowledge on green building topics.We collected 177 questionnaires,of which 153 were qualified for statistical analysis.The results suggested that the building itself can afford to promote awareness among users,but cannot afford to educate users on general green building knowledge.We found that building users perceived green design at different spatial scales,preferring either product or space-related design.Our results indicate that future design should continue promoting the use of educational signage,which was found to be the most effective communicator of sustainability.The communication of green design to users with different spatial preferences remains a future research focus.Further studies on the innovative use of green building design as effective communicators are needed to promote sustainability education among the building users.
文摘The selection of the project delivery method(PDM)for any project is critical—it establishes the communication,coordination,and contractual interfaces between the owner,contractor,and designer.With an increase in the number of green design projects,understanding the relationship between the PDM and green design is paramount to project and contract management.While it is reasonable to assume that a relationship between green design and design-build(DB)exists since both theoretically are intended to foster an integrated,holistic,team-based collaborative project;it is also appropriate to understand the relationship between green design and other PDMs.This preliminary research examined possible relationships between design-bid-build(DBB),construction management(CM),and DB PDMs and green design with the goal of beginning to identify potential positive correspondence between them.To develop an initial understanding,two main tasks were completed.First,existing published research was evaluated to reveal aspects of projects and PDMs independent of green design.Second,the research collected primarily qualitative information by conducting structured interviews with approximately twenty-five individuals,including owners,contractors,and designers involved in completed green design projects,mainly in the public sector.Upon completion of the structured interviews,responses from the interviews were reviewed for green design project characteristics.Additionally,the interviews provided insight on the initial understanding of the current state of knowledge and experience in green design and PDMs.After the two main tasks were completed,both were evaluated for commonalities.Preliminary results found that seven green design project characteristics emerged that in some cases related to a specific PDM,but in other cases were independent of a PDM.Future research will quantitatively investigate the relationship between green design projects,PDMs,and success factors.
