A theoretical model of the fiber Bragg grating Fabry–Perot(FBG-FP) transmission spectrum considering loss of FBG and intra-cavity fiber is presented. Several types of FBG-FPs are inscribed experimentally, and their spectra are measured.The results confirm that weak intra-cavity loss is enhanced at the resonance transmission peak, that is, loss of transmission peaks is observably larger than other wavelengths. For FBG-FPs with multi resonance peaks, when the resonance peak wavelength is closer to the Bragg wavelength, the more significant loss effect of resonance transmission peak is exhibited.The measured spectra are fitted with the presented theoretical model. The fitted coefficient of determinations are near 1,which proves the validity of the theoretical model. This study can be applied to measure FBG loss more accurately, without a reference light. It can play an important role in FBG and FBG-FP writing process optimization and application parameter optimization. 展开更多

A surface plasmon interference lithography assisted by a Fabry-Perot (F-P) cavity composed of subwavelength metal gratings and a thin metal fihn is proposed to fabricate high-quality nanopatterns. The calculated results indicate that uniform straight interference fringes with high contrast and high electric-field intensity are formed in the resist under the F-P cavity. The analyses of spatial frequency spectra illuminate the physical mechanism of the formation for the interference fringes. The influence of the F-P cavity spacing is discussed in detail. Moreover, the error analyses reveal that all parameters except the metal grating period in this scheme can bear large tolerances for the device fabrication. 展开更多

In this paper,the reflective spectra of a refraction index sensor were analyzed based on fiber grating F-P cavity.The sensor was constituted by two identical fiber gratings.Compared with the refraction index sensor using one fiber grating,the fiber grating F-P cavity sensor has narrower resonant peak and it can be used for more accurate measurement.The resonant peaks in the reflective spectra of the sensor are changed with small changes of the refraction index of the measured chemical liquids or cell samples.So it has potential applications in biology and chemistry. 展开更多

A self-seeded fiber laser incorporated with a fiber Bragg grating external cavity semiconductor laser (FBG-ECL) and a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) were reported in this paper. The MZI provided a Q-switching with response time in the order of micro-seconds. The FBG-ECL provided narrow pulses as seeds to shorten the Q-switched pulses. Experimentally, pulse width of 0.8 μs was measured, which was one fifth of the pulse width without self-seeding. 展开更多

The Letter reports the thermal stability and strain response of Fabry–Perot(FP) cavity under different high temperatures. The FP cavity was made by thermal regeneration of two identical cascaded fiber Bragg gratings(FBGs). It is demonstrated that the FP cavity is capable of measuring temperatures from 300℃ to 900℃ with a temperature sensitivity of 15.97 pm/℃. The elongation of the fiber was observed through the drifted Bragg wavelength at 700℃ or above when weight was loaded. The elongation was further inferred by the slight change in the interference spectra of the FP cavity at 900℃. 展开更多
