Numerical simulation of residual stresses in hybrid welding for dissimilar girth welds of cast steel joints

The study aimed to address the issue of elevated residual stress levels in dissimilar girth welds of cast steel joints.To achieve this,the hybrid welding technology,which yields high welding speeds while simultaneously reducing residual stresses,has been introduced.This study utilizes a numerical simulation method to investigate the temperature and residual stress field in the hybrid welding of G20Mn5 casting-Q355 low-alloy steel welded pipe.A com-parison of the findings of this study with those of other welding processes revealed the technological advantages of hybrid welding.The research outcomes show that due to geometric discontinuities and material differences,the temperature field of the joint exhibits uneven distribution characteristics,and the peak temperatures on the Q355 steel side exceeds those on the G20Mn5 steel side.An evident stress gra-dient is present in the residual stress field of the joint post-welding,with peak stress located at the weld root on the Q355 steel.Compared with arc welding,the hybrid welding leads to decreased residual stresses and deformation,with high stress outside the heat-affected zone diminishing rapidly.Furthermore,it significantly improves the welding efficiency.This study elucidates the distribution and underlying causes of thermal and residual stress fields in dissimilar girth welds.This serves as a foundation for the application of hybrid welding technology in welded cast steel joints. 展开更多

A technical specification for the optimum quality of a girth welding joint was obtained through a large amount of testing. According to the requirements of America Petroleum Institute(API) standard 1104 and the standards of the 2nd West-East natural gas transmission pipeline project,the mechanical properties of a girth welding joint were estimated. Self-shielded flux-cored wire is a convenient and efficient consumable for pipeline field girth welding because of its self-protection characteristic and high deposition rate, especially for remote construction sites in rugged terrain. From the perspective of pipeline safety, the impact toughness of the girth welds is an important factor in pipeline integrity ,which determines the crack arrest behavior in the girth welds. Therefore, improving the girth weld impact toughness is of primary importance in the field of pipeline girth welding. Three self-shielded flux-cored wires comprising different chemical composition systems have been applied to large diameter X80 UOE (U-ing-O- ing-Expanding) pipeline semi-automatic girth welding,and the impact toughness of the welds has been evaluated by girth weld chemical composition analysis and microstructural analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) to investigate pipeline girth weld impact toughness and find ways to improve it. This helps in determining the main factors that influence girth weld impact toughness. Pipeline girth weld impact toughness is mainly determined by the final microstructure produced in the solid-state phase transition. In the as-weld state,acicular ferrite (AF) and fine bainite (FB) are a benefit to the impact toughness. For multilayer semiautomatic self-shielded flux-cored wire welding, the normalizing and tempering function of the latter beads to the initial beads plays an important role in the transition of girth weld microstructure, which affects the impact toughness. The original AF and FB and the corresponding heat treatment microstructure of the fine and uniform block ferrite and pearlite result in very good impact toughness. The following two mechanisms are found to promote the production of AF and FB in the girth weld. First, elements promoting the broadening of the austenitic region, such as Ni, C, Cu, and Mn, induce low temperature phase transitions and restrain the opposing function of Al, which is a benefit to the production of AF and FB. Second, dispersed high-melting-point inclusions, especially Al2O3 ,induce the nucleated production of AF. The advantageous function of inclusions is determined by their shape, distribution, and dimension. Dispersed spherical inclusions of small dimension are a benefit to the production of AF, and result in good impact toughness. 展开更多

Pipeline inner inspection technology based on Pipeline Inspection Gauge(PIG),is the primary means for ensuring the safety of submarine pipelines.The dynamic characteristics of a PIG can change abruptly with the excitation of obstacles such as girth welds inside the pipeline,which would result in failure or inaccuracy of the inspection results.This study establishes a dynamic model of the PIG sealing disc based on Kelvin spring damping in the circumferentially confined space.The axial vibration differential equations of the PIG is examined in detail.MSC/ADAMS is used to conduct the dynamic simulation of the PIG at different motion velocities and center of mass positions while passing through the girth weld process.Results indicate that the axial vibration caused by the girth weld intensifies substantially as the speed of the PIG increases,while the pitch and vertical vibrations exhibit a significant decline with an increase in the motion velocity.The change in the PIG’s center of mass positions has little effect on its axial vibration,while the pitch and vertical vibration conditions are significantly different in the same circumstances. 展开更多

And some key technologies were researched, such as structural design of machine body, reliable conduction of rotary weldments and quality control of welding process and so on. According to the requirements of Queensland Gas Company Ltd. (QGC), the operator of the Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) pipeline project in Australia, girth welding experiments and weldability evaluations have been carded out for three X70 UOE pipes from Baosteel based on API 1104 standards. Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas- shielded flux-cored wire arc welding (FCAW-G) have been applied, and the girth weld joint quality and mechanical performance were evaluated. It was found that the field girth weldability of Baosteel' s XT0 UOE pipes was excellent under the conditions used here and satisfied the requirements of the QCLNG project for field girth welding construction. Furthermore,Baosteel has offered a solution to the QCLNG project for pipeline girth welding in which the girth welding joint design, selection of welding processes and consumables, welding procedures, techniques and joint inspections are included. Such research provides important guidance for the difficult tie-in welding applications for the construction of the QCLNG pipelines in the field. 展开更多

The application of fracture mechanics to the “Fitness For Purpose” assessment of the fracture properties of pipeline girth welds is generally essential for the safe operation of oil pipeline systems. Based on the analysis of the fracture toughness requirements of the oil pipeline girth weld, a systematic study has been conducted on the fracture behavior of the API 5L X65 steel pipeline girth weld made by two welding materials. The critical COD values of the pipeline girth weld under the different temperatures are tested. In the paper other influential factors on fracture behavior are also discussed, such as the welding materials, the welding positions (flat welding, vertical welding, overhead welding), the welded joint area (weld, heat affected zone, fusion line and base metal) and the experiment temperature. The result shows that the welding material, the welded joint area and the experiment temperature have considerable influence on the fracture behavior of pipeline girth welds. It is also concluded that the effect of the welding position is related to the welding process. The study provides a scientific basis for the welding of oil pipelines. 展开更多

To meet the requirements of pipeline consumers abroad,in this study,an automatic gas metal arc welding type of girth welding was performed with a heat input of no more than 0.25 kJ/mm and high-strength solid-wire matching for an X70M large-diameter UOE pipeline.An integral evaluation of the X70M pipeline girth weldability was performed with respect to the girth-weld cold-cracking sensitivity during the welding process and the strengthening,hardening,and embrittlement of the girth weld joint after girth welding in especially rigorous welding conditions with accelerated failure characteristics.The performance of the above girth weld joint with joints welded using the main construction-field girth welding procedure was compared to ensure the good girth weldability of the X70M pipeline.The results of this study have important supervisory significance for field-construction girth welding.Finally,the girth weldability of the X70M pipeline was found to satisfy the field construction requirements even when the welding conditions are especially rigorous. 展开更多

Optimal array parameters are determined based on a mathematical model of acoustic field for linear phased army derived from Huygens' principle. The testing method and the system structure are introduced. The experimental results show that the phased array transducer system has the same detectability as that of conventional ultrasonic transducer system, but the system architecture can be simplified greatly, and the testing flexibility and the testing speed can be improved greatly. 展开更多

A calculation method for limit load of the gas pipelines with girth weld surface cracks

In this paper,a finite element model with girth weld defects considering crack tip singularity was established in order to facilitate the accurate and rapid safety assessment on girth weld defects of long distance gas Transmission pipeline.Then the J-integral of girth weld cracks in pipes with different defect sizes was calculated,and the influence of weld matching coefficient and material hardening index on J-integral is analyzed.Furthermore,the influence factors of limit load of pipeline with girth weld defects based on J-integral theory are studied.Based on this,the engineering calculation formula which can calculate J-integral and limit load rapidly in the situations with specific matching coefficient and material hardening index was proposed.And the following research results were obtained.First,the engineering calculation formula based on the fitting of finite element calculation results has high accuracy,which can calculate the J-integral of defects in a large geometric range and the limit load of pipelines with girth weld cracks.Second,the J-integral of cracks in pipes with girth weld defects is closely related to defect size,material properties and weld matching coefficient,and the limit load of pipes with defects decreases as the crack size increases and increases as the material hardening index increases.Third,for the X80 pipes with surface cracks at the centerline of the girth weld,the load carrying capacity of the pipes with low-strength matched weld are lower than that with high-strength or equivalent-matched weld.In conclusion,the research results can be used as reference for the safety evaluation and integrity management of in-service gas pipelines. 展开更多

The Steel Catenary Riser(SCR)is a vital component for transporting oil and gas from the seabed to the floating platform.The harsh environmental conditions and complex platform motion make the SCR’s girth-weld prone to fatigue failure.The structural stress fatigue theory and Master S-N curve method provide accurate predictions for the fatigue damage on the welded joints,which demonstrate significant potential and compatibility in multi-axial and random fatigue evaluation.Here,we propose a new frequency fatigue model subjected to welded joints of SCR under multiaxial stress,which fully integrates the mesh-insensitive structural stress and frequency domain random process and transforms the conventional welding fatigue technique of SCR into a spectrum analysis technique utilizing structural stress.Besides,a full-scale FE model of SCR with welds is established to obtain the modal structural stress of the girth weld and the frequency response function(FRF)of modal coordinate,and a biaxial fatigue evaluation about the girth weld of the SCR can be achieved by taking the effects of multi-load correlation and pipe-soil interaction into account.The research results indicate that the frequency-domain fatigue results are aligned with the time-domain results,meeting the fatigue evaluation requirements of the SCR. 展开更多

The fatigue life evaluation of the girth butt weld within the welded cast steel joint was studied based on the extrapolation notch stress method.Firstly,the mesh sensitivity of the finite element model of the welded cast steel joint was analyzed to determine the optimal mesh size.Based on the stress field analysis of the finite element model of the welded cast steel joint at the weld toe and weld root,the sharp model of the extrapolation notch stress method was applied to derive the effective notch stress of the rounded model belonging to the effective notch stress method,in which the key problem is to calculate the extrapolation point C,and the extrapolation point C has an exponential function relationship with the geometric parameters of the welded cast steel joint.By setting different values of geometric parameters,the corresponding value of parameter C is calculated,and then the functional relationship between the extrapolation point C and the geometric parameters can be obtained by the multiple linear regression analysis.Meanwhile,the fatigue life evaluation of the girth butt weld within welded cast steel joints based on the effective notch stress was performed according to the guideline recommended by the IIW(International Institute of Welding).The results indicate that the extrapolation notch stress method can effectively simplify the process of calculating the effective notch stress and accurately evaluate the fatigue life of the girth butt weld within welded cast steel joints. 展开更多

鉴于管道环焊接头韧性指标对现场施工与运营安全性的重要影响,同时考虑到夏比冲击韧性与断裂韧性在评价管道结构止裂行为方面的异同,研究了超低热输入焊接条件下X80管道自动熔化极气体保护环焊接头不同位置示波冲击与裂纹尖端张开位移(C... 鉴于管道环焊接头韧性指标对现场施工与运营安全性的重要影响,同时考虑到夏比冲击韧性与断裂韧性在评价管道结构止裂行为方面的异同,研究了超低热输入焊接条件下X80管道自动熔化极气体保护环焊接头不同位置示波冲击与裂纹尖端张开位移(CTOD)断裂韧性的相关性。结果表明,示波冲击试验中裂纹塑性起裂位移(V_(m))、延性扩展位移(V_(p))与CTOD试验中稳定裂纹扩展位移及裂纹扩展塑性分量(V_(g))呈高度正相关,裂纹塑性起裂功、扩展功与CTOD特征值一致性良好;焊缝金属因淬硬组织呈低韧性特征,热影响区因细晶等组织特性具备优良的止裂能力。示波冲击性能与CTOD断裂韧性均为评估管道焊接结构止裂能力的关键指标,二者相关性可为高等级油气输送管道设计、施工及运维提供技术指导。 展开更多

为了探究X80管线钢环焊接头热影响区的特性,获取温度历程数据和热影响区硬度的非线性关系,对热影响区硬度均值进行了精准预测。以X80管线钢为研究对象并开展了热模拟试验,通过显微硬度测试得到了热模拟试样的硬度值和全尺寸环焊缝接头... 为了探究X80管线钢环焊接头热影响区的特性,获取温度历程数据和热影响区硬度的非线性关系,对热影响区硬度均值进行了精准预测。以X80管线钢为研究对象并开展了热模拟试验,通过显微硬度测试得到了热模拟试样的硬度值和全尺寸环焊缝接头热影响区的硬度分布。基于热模拟试样硬度数据库,采用多指标综合评价优选基于粒子群优化的支持向量回归算法,构建热影响区硬度预测模型,并通过有限元模型计算获取温度历程的特征数据,代入硬度预测模型完成实际热影响区硬度分布进行预测。结果显示,全自动焊、组合自动焊的硬度预测均值相对误差分别为4.70%和6.01%,为焊接工艺优化提供指导。 展开更多

【目的】管线钢作为一种高强度低合金钢,适用于液氨大规模长距离管道输送。然而管道环焊缝作为结构薄弱区域,在液氨环境下易受到杂质与应力协同作用发生应力腐蚀开裂,严重威胁管道系统的安全运行。因此,研究管道环焊缝在复杂液氨输送环... 【目的】管线钢作为一种高强度低合金钢,适用于液氨大规模长距离管道输送。然而管道环焊缝作为结构薄弱区域,在液氨环境下易受到杂质与应力协同作用发生应力腐蚀开裂,严重威胁管道系统的安全运行。因此,研究管道环焊缝在复杂液氨输送环境下的应力腐蚀行为对于保障管道长寿命服役至关重要。【方法】为探究L360钢级直缝埋弧焊管环焊缝的液氨应力腐蚀行为规律,在纯液氨环境及含杂质液氨环境(质量分数为0.10%H_(2)O、0.20%O_(2)、0.15%CO_(2)、0.40%N_(2))中开展50%Re(屈服强度)、75%Re、100%Re应力状态下的C形环应力腐蚀试验,并基于微观形貌表征与腐蚀产物分析,从腐蚀速率、微观形貌、腐蚀产物等方面进行系统研究。【结果】L360钢级直缝埋弧焊管环焊缝C形环试样在纯液氨环境下基本不发生腐蚀;在含杂质液氨环境下,杂质-应力对液氨腐蚀存在显著的协同促进作用;H_(2)O、O_(2)等杂质会诱导L360直缝埋弧焊管环焊缝表面生成Fe(OH)_(3)、Fe_(2)O_(3);当施加应力时,腐蚀产物层破裂,且腐蚀产物层表面的裂纹明显随应力水平的升高而增加;虽然施加的应力在氨环境下未产生明显的纵向延伸裂纹,但应力增加了试样背面对点蚀的敏感性。此外,微观腐蚀形貌分析表明,焊缝相比母材对应力腐蚀更为敏感:母材腐蚀区在100%Re时发生腐蚀产物层皲裂,而焊缝腐蚀区在50%Re时即已发生。【结论】在L360直缝埋弧焊管输送液氨时,应严格控制液氨中的杂质含量、管材受到的应力值以及环焊缝的焊接质量,以减少环焊缝处液氨应力腐蚀开裂风险,保障液氨管道输送的安全。 展开更多

基于改进YOLOv8算法的管道环焊缝DR图像缺陷识别技术

管道环焊缝缺陷是诱发管道失效的关键因素,传统数字射线照相无损检测技术(Digital Radiography nondestructive testing,DR)图像缺陷识别依赖人工评估,存在主观性强、识别效率低等问题。为解决这一难题,提出一种基于改进YOLOv8算法的DR... 管道环焊缝缺陷是诱发管道失效的关键因素,传统数字射线照相无损检测技术(Digital Radiography nondestructive testing,DR)图像缺陷识别依赖人工评估,存在主观性强、识别效率低等问题。为解决这一难题,提出一种基于改进YOLOv8算法的DR图像缺陷智能识别方法。首先,针对DR图像噪声干扰与灰度分布不均的问题,系统对比中值滤波、均值滤波、高斯滤波及双边滤波的降噪效果,确定卷积核大小为3×3的中值滤波为最优降噪方案(PSNR=45.24 dB,SSIM=0.985);然后,通过线性变换与伽马变换的组合增强策略,验证当线性变换参数a=0.7的线性变换、伽马变换参数γ=2时,缺陷特征的辨识度显著提升。在此基础上,将全局注意力机制(Global Attention Mechanism,GAM)和双向特征金字塔网络(Bidirectional Feature Pyramid Network,BiFPN)融入YOLOv8算法框架,以提高环焊缝缺陷智能识别准确率及速度。实验结果表明,改进后的YOLOv8算法对裂纹、未熔合、未焊透等5类典型缺陷的识别准确率达83.1%,较原始YOLOv8算法提升10.7%;同时,模型的mAP@0.5与召回率分别达到74.7%和76.8%,较原算法提升8.3%和14.4%。该方法有效突破了传统DR检测的智能化瓶颈,为管道环焊缝缺陷的高效、精准识别提供了可靠技术支撑,具有重要的工程应用价值。 展开更多

X80管线钢管端环焊缝电弧增材梯度强化结构设计与性能优化研究

针对X80管线钢管端环焊缝强度-韧性失配导致的失效风险,提出了基于电弧增材制造的梯度强化方法,通过优化环焊缝外侧增材层的几何参数及工艺路径,实现应力集中与残余应力的协同调控。首先开展管端增材加厚区尺寸优化设计,通过正交试验确... 针对X80管线钢管端环焊缝强度-韧性失配导致的失效风险,提出了基于电弧增材制造的梯度强化方法,通过优化环焊缝外侧增材层的几何参数及工艺路径,实现应力集中与残余应力的协同调控。首先开展管端增材加厚区尺寸优化设计,通过正交试验确定关键几何参数对应力-应变分布的调控作用;其次基于热-力-相多场耦合理论,建立包含生死单元激活算法的二维动态有限元模型,采用双椭球热源表征电弧增材热力耦合效应,揭示管端增材成形机制及其对环焊缝力学性能的调控规律。实验结果表明,管端采用增材层长度L=150 mm,管壁厚t=30%,过渡角θ=150°增材加厚区尺寸优化后,环焊缝区屈服强度稳定于550 MPa,但混合区冲击功显著提升,热影响区(HAZ)强度跃升至590 MPa,母材横向屈强比较高,存在一定塑性劣化与脆化风险。 展开更多

作为推进系统的一部分,可重复使用火箭贮箱的服役性能会直接影响火箭的回收次数。由于现有的实验方法难以揭示贮箱焊缝复杂的应力关系,因此,针对2219铝合金贮箱多环缝筒体结构,采用有限元分析软件Marc建立模型,进行搅拌摩擦焊应力仿真... 作为推进系统的一部分,可重复使用火箭贮箱的服役性能会直接影响火箭的回收次数。由于现有的实验方法难以揭示贮箱焊缝复杂的应力关系,因此,针对2219铝合金贮箱多环缝筒体结构,采用有限元分析软件Marc建立模型,进行搅拌摩擦焊应力仿真并校核,以研究可重复火箭贮箱多条环焊缝的应力影响关系,并探明最优的焊接顺序,从而提高构件服役性能。结果显示:整体残余应力以纵向残余拉应力为主,受温度梯度与位移约束的影响,焊缝之间的残余应力会进行传递,使得5条环焊缝的应力峰值产生差异,其中横、纵向残余应力峰值最大相差33.9%、23.3%。在不同焊接顺序下,焊后残余应力峰值、分布均不同,初焊焊缝在筒体中部,且约束位置变化幅度大的焊接顺序拥有最好的焊接效果。 展开更多
