The computer simulation of Al three-dimensional crystallite containing grain boundary of special type was carried out and its behaviour under high rate loading was investigated. The molecular dynamics method was used and interaction betwen atoms was described based on pseudopotential method. Vortical character of the atom movements in the grain boundary region is realized under shear loading in certain directions. Back and forth movements of atoms in the direction which is perpendicular to the shear also arise. Amplitude of such movements is approximately equal to an interplanar distance in this direction. 展开更多

Grain boundary diffusion of sintered NdFeB magnets by TbAl coatings with various Al addition amount

In this work,the effect of the Al addition amount in the TbAl coatings on the grain boundary diffusion proces s(GBDP)of Tb were systematically explored.Direct current magnetron sputtering(DCMS)method was utilized in co-sputtering manner to synthesize the TbAl coatings with certain Tb consumption and various Al addition amount.Results show that the moderate Al addition amount significantly improves the wettability of grain boundary(GB)phases,thereby acquiring more continuous and uniform Tb-rich shells and GB phases between matrix phases,as well as deeper diffusion depth and denser microstructure.The largest increase amplitude of intrinsic coercivity(Hcj)is improved by 78.4%in TbAIdiffused magnet compared to the pure Tb-diffused magnet,while the remanence(Br)is expected to show an overall decreasing tendency accompanied with a slight increase in the decreasing process.However,when the Al addition amount is excessive,magnetic dilution effect is enhanced,and the Tbrich shells and GB phases between matrix phases become fuzzy and even invisible,which in turn deteriorates the magnetic properties of diffused magnets. 展开更多

The different influences of the general grain boundary and the twin boundary on the cavity formation were investigated in copper irradiated by helium at room temperature. Large number of the cavities with sizes smaller than 5 nm formed after irradiation, which were almost homogenously distributed inside the grains. However, the distribution of the cavities varied near the general grain boundary and the twin boundary. Cavities-depleted zone was readily observed near the general grain boundaries, which was rarely observed near the twin boundaries. Meanwhile, decoration of dense cavities within the grain boundary plane was observed. The results suggested the limited influence of the twin boundaries as the point defect sinks compared with the general grain boundaries. 展开更多

A structural transition in the fcc ∑=5 (120)/[001] high-angle tilt grain-boundary(GB)is investigated by molecular-dynamics simulation. The calculations have been performed at various temperutures and the thermodynamic melting point Tm of the model system is determined by using a many-body potential fitted to copper. A thermal disorder transition in the GB region occurs well below the melting point. Our results indicate that such a transition is a continuous process and there is no evidence of premelting, which is entirely in accord with experiment results and theoretical prediction.Moreover we also observed that melting initiated at the interface and then propagated into the bulk quickly at or above Tm. 展开更多
