BACKGROUND The tear of the gluteus medius and minimus tendons can cause chronic buttock pain,especially in middle-aged individuals;these tears occur mostly in association with degenerative changes in the muscles and t...BACKGROUND The tear of the gluteus medius and minimus tendons can cause chronic buttock pain,especially in middle-aged individuals;these tears occur mostly in association with degenerative changes in the muscles and tendons.Chronic injuries are more common than acute injuries,and concurrent injuries to the gluteus medius and minimus tendons without chronic pain are rare,especially isolated injuries to both sides of the gluteus minimus;such a case has not yet been reported.CASE SUMMARY The authors present a case of bilateral acute traumatic injuries to the gluteus minimus during buttock strengthening exercises in a 75-year-old male patient.The patient completely returned to his pre-injury lifestyle after 8 weeks of injury,with no limitations,but the diagnosis was initially delayed due to misdiagnosis as lumbar radiculopathy,resulting in unnecessary socio-economic burden on the patient.CONCLUSION When treating patients who complain of hip pain,it is important to consider various causes to make a correct diagnosis.展开更多

The aim of this stu...An intramuscular injection (IMI) is an injection given directly into the central area of a specific muscle. Certain medicines need to be administered by the gluteal route for these to be effective. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of body mass index (BMI), subcutaneous fat, and muscular thickness of the dorsogluteal IMI site among healthy Japanese women. There were 39 healthy female subjects who volunteered and met the criteria. Their ages ranged from 40s to 60s (50.82 ± 6.04). With the data collected using the B-mode ultrasound images of the dorsogluteal site, it was found that the distance from the epidermis to the under-fascia (DEUF) of the gluteus maximus was dissimilar between the subject’s right and left buttocks. It was found that the distance from the epidermis to the iliac bone (DEI) was significantly more on the right than on the left buttocks. In the case of an adult Japanese woman with a BMI of 21 or more, the DEUF of the gluteus medius was found to be about 30 mm, and the DEI was approximately 50 mm or more. Based on these findings, it is recommended that a needle length of 38 mm (1.5 inches) can be safely used to administer IMIs to the gluteus medius muscle to effectively and efficiently deliver medications through the IMI route.展开更多

Methods The tenderness of anterior superior iliac spine which was the starting point of gluteus medius was taken as the center, i cm around it, 4-8 needle insertion points were fixed. Fire-needle with intensive and deep needling method was applied deeply on the surface of the bone then immediately taken out. The treatment was given once every 3 days, 3 times as a course. Results After 2 courses, 22 cases were fully recovered, 22 cases with remarkable effect, 4 cases without effect, and the total effective rate was 92.5%. Conclusion Fire- needle with intensive and deep needling method has remarkable therapeutic effect.展开更多

It is a benign focal heterotopic ossification process of soft tissues, and a rare disorder that occurs spontaneously or after local trauma. Clinical and radiographic appearances are quite hustler. A careful histological examination of biopsy straightens diagnosis is necessary. There is no consensus in support (surgical or/and medical). From Benign prognosis, evolution of this pathology is usually favorable. The authors report a case of giant myositis ossificans circumscribed post-traumatic localized on gluteus and adductor muscles of the right hip on a 26-year-old man. This study aimed to evaluate the local recurrence and function of the new anal sphincter after oper...OBJECTIVE To assess the use of gluteus maximus muscle to recon- struct the anal sphincter for very low rectal cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the local recurrence and function of the new anal sphincter after operation. METHODS Sixteen patients underwent the replacement operation, and then received biofeedback treatments 1 month after the operation. The therapeutic responses were evaluated using the Vaizey and Wexner scoring systems and vectorial manometry. The controls were 30 cases who had undergone a low anterior resection for rectal cancer and 30 healthy people. RESULTS Median follow-up was 4.2 years. No local recurrence was observed. The Vaizey and Wexner scores and vectorial manometry 1 month after operation were significantly lower than those of the healthy and low anterior resection controls （ P 〈0.001） . After biofeedback treatments, the above indexes improved significantly （ P 〈0.001）, especially after 1 year （ P 〈0.001）, but still remained lower than the controls（ P 〈0.001）. The rectoanal reflex only increased to 31.3 % 1 year after operation. CONCLUSION The local recurrence after the replacement operation was low. The defecation function was poor early after operation, but increased markedly after biofeedback treatments and long-term functional exercise. This therapy can be one choice for very low rectal cancer.展开更多

However, many individuals cannot perform a traditional squat. An alternative is to hire a physical trainer or coach for supervision which can be prohibitively expensive. The DB Method<sup><sup><sup>®</sup></sup></sup> machine is unique and affordable. A product satisfaction descriptive survey to owners of The DB Method machine describes increased gluteal, core, pelvic floor and lower body strength, an improvement in gluteal region shape, and an increase in activity and energy level. A surprising result of the survey was that this DB Method also seemed to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and, in some cases, to lessen urinary incontinence. In this article, the results of this survey are described as the kinetics of this machine relative to the lower limbs and the pelvic floor muscles. A comparison between traditional squats and The DB Method and the benefits of using The DB Method are discussed.展开更多
