The Four-Step model of transportation planning and modal choice provided the theoretical basis for this study. A survey research design involving a stratified sampling technique was adopted. The descriptives on transport modes, amount and time spent revealed that 10 (76.9%) males and 3 (23.1%) females preferred bicycle as means of transportation, 7 (58.3%) males and 5 (41.7%) females preferred motorcycle, while a significant proportion 90 (53.9%) males and 77 (46.1%) females preferred tricycle, 80 (63.0%) males and 47 (37.0%) females preferred cars/taxis, and 12 (46.2%) males and 14 (53.8%) females preferred mass transit bus. However, 14 (46.7%) males and 16 (53.3%) females in marshy terrain and coastal locations preferred canoes and boats. The result of the logistic regression model revealed that gender modal preference is more likely to be influenced by mode of transportation with a beta weight of 1.140, safety considerations 1.139, ownership of transport 1.135 and distance to place of work 1.073. Hence, this study recommends that a combination of these factors should be incorporated into transport planning to achieve effective transport planning and sustainable development in the Yenagoa metropolis.展开更多

This paper aims to examine the role of race and gender in sustaining the capitalist world system through the lens of decolonial studies. It considers how both categories were historically constructed during the colonial process as tools to legitimize social, economic, and political hierarchies between the dominant and the dominated. In particular, the division of labor, based on racial and gendered distinctions, was instrumental in shaping these power relations. By analyzing these categories as central elements in the formation and maintenance of the capitalist world system, the study highlights their continued influence in perpetuating inequalities today.展开更多

In humans, auditory processing differs physiologically between males and females, possibly true for SCA due to gender-specific disease pathophysiological changes. Objective: To investigate gender differences in psychoacoustical abilities, and speech perception in noise in SCA individuals and further compare with normal healthy(NH) population. Methods: 80 SCA and 80 NH normal-hearing participants aged 15-40 years were included and further grouped based on gender. Auditory discrimination for frequency, intensity, and duration at 500Hz and 4000Hz;temporal processing(Gap detection threshold & Modulation Detection Threshold) and Speech Perception In Noise(SPIN) at 0d BSNR tests were evaluated and compared between males and females of SCA and NH population. Results: SCA performed poorer compared to NH for all experimental measures. In the NH population, males performed poorer than females in psychoacoustical measures whereas within the SCA population, the reverse was true. Female participants performed better in the SPIN test in both populations. Conclusions: The adverse impact of SCA on the auditory system due to circulatory changes might cause poorer performance in SCA. Poorer performance by Female SCA is possibly due to the contrary impact of lower Hb level overlying Sickle disease.Estrogen levels and gender preference in auditory processing might lead to better performance by females within the NH population. SPIN performance depends on different attentional demands and sensorimotor processing strategies in noise beyond psychoacoustical processing may lead to better female performance in both populations.展开更多

文摘This paper presents the findings of a two-week monitoring project on Gender Based Violence(GBV)in Tanzanian and explores how the media outlets frame the marginalized voices, institutional narratives, and intersectional inclusivity.Drawing qualitative approach and analysis of media coverage of GBV during the 202416 Days of Activism campaign remarkably November 25 to December 10,2024,it reveals the extent that media platforms amplify or marginalize survivor voices.Through two weeks of media monitoring across print, broadcast, and social media including sources notably Mwananchi,TBC1,Cloud FM,and advocacy-driven digital platforms and campaigns through#EndGBVNow and#16DaysOfActivism the study explores recurring themes, language use, tone, and inclusivity.Guided by critical gender theories including Judith Butler’s gender performativity and Gave Tuchman’s symbolic annihilation, the analysis reveals media’s dual role in either perpetuating or challenging patriarchal narratives.Findings indicate that traditional media often foreground prevailing institutional voices while underrepresenting marginalized groups, especially rural women and women with disabilities, portraying harmful cultural practices like FGM and child marriage as community challenges rather than universal human rights violation.Conversely, social media emerged as a transformative space for survivor-led advocacy.Hence the study calls for inclusive, ethical, and survivor-centered media reporting as well as strategic integration of digital and mainstream media to promote justice and policy reform in GBV reporting.

文摘Objective:Near vision loss(NVL)is one of the leading causes of visual impairment worldwide, exerting a profound impact on individual quality of life and socio-economic development. This study aims to analyze the burden of NVL in China by sex and age groups from 1990 to 2021 and to project trends over the next 15 years. Methods:Using data from the Global Burden of Disease(GBD)2021 database,we conducted descriptive analyses of NVL prevalence in China, calculated age-standardized prevalence rates(ASPR)and age-standardized disability-adjusted life years rates(ASDR)to compare burden differences between sexes and age groups, and applied an autoregressive integrated moving average(ARIMA)model to predict NVL trends for the next 15 years. The model selection was based on best-fit criteria to ensure reliable projections. Results:From 1990 to 2021,China’s ASPR of NVL rose from 10096.24/100000 to 15624.54/100000,and ASDR increased from 101.75/100000 to 158.75/100000.In 2021,ASPR(16551.70/100000)and ASDR(167.69/100000)were higher among females than males(14686.21/100000 and 149.76/100000,respectively).China ranked highest globally in both NVL cases and disability-adjusted life years(DALYs),with female burden significantly exceeding male burden.Projections indicated this trend and sex gap will persist until 2036.Compared with 1990,the prevalence cases and DALYs increased by 239.20%and 238.82%,respectively in 2021,with the highest burden among females and the 55−59 age group. The ARIMA model predicted continued increases in prevalence and DALYs by 2036,with females maintaining a higher burden than males. Conclusion:This study reveals a marked increase in the NVL burden in China and predicts continued growth in the coming years.Public health policies should prioritize NVL prevention and control, with special attention to women and middle-aged populations to mitigate long-term societal and health impacts.
文摘This study examined gender differences in modal choice among residents of coastal communities of Yenagoa metropolis in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Hence, this study recommends that a combination of these factors should be incorporated into transport planning to achieve effective transport planning and sustainable development in the Yenagoa metropolis.
文摘With a long-standing tradition in the development of critical theories, Latin America seeks, through a myriad of perspectives, to understand its peripheral position within the mechanisms of the world system. By analyzing these categories as central elements in the formation and maintenance of the capitalist world system, the study highlights their continued influence in perpetuating inequalities today.

文摘This study examined how social desirability responses confound the relationship between gender and social media addiction.A total of 496 college student social media users(females=310,62.5%,mean age=20.15,SD=1.26)completed an online questionnaire on Social Media Addiction and Social Desirability.Mediation analysis revealed that females were at higher risk for social media addiction. On the other hand, the indirect effect of gender on social media addiction via social desirability is associated with lower social media addiction, which suggests that social desirability had a suppression effect on social media addiction associated with gender.ANOVA results showed that females reported higher social media addiction scores than males in the low social desirability group;in the high group, gender differences were insignificant. This study’s unique contribution is to suggest that females are at higher risk than males for developing addictive social media behaviors.Based on this finding, student social media safety interventions should be gender sensitive to the social desirability effect on females who may hide their true addiction as a result.
文摘The objective of the study is to examine the moderating influence of gender on the relationship between cultural values and Islamic work ethics(IWE)among Palestinian Arab high school teachers in Israel who represent an ethnic and religious minority within a Western-oriented framework. The study sample comprised 1,245 Arab teachers(759 females and 476 males).Data analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling with AMOS,focusing on path analysis. The research findings highlight a substantial relationship between cultural values and Islamic work ethics, with gender as a moderating variable.Additionally, the results indicate a significant positive relationship between the cultural value dimension of uncertainty avoidance and both dimensions of Islamic work ethics-dedication and social responsibility in the workplace, along with independence, diligence, and achievement. In contrast,a pronounced and significant negative relationship was identified between the cultural dimension of femininity/masculinity and these two dimensions of Islamic work ethics.

文摘Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)turns into a common neuro progressional disorder.Although gender identity has obtained increasing attention in ADHD researches, its role in ADHD presentation and treatment response remains underexplored. Our review seeks to mainly delve into the effect of gender identity on ADHD,exploring the unique needs of individuals with various gender identities in the context of ADHD symptoms, diagnostic assessment, and treatment, with the goal of supplying theoretical support and practical recommendations for future research and clinical practice. The primary content includes,specifically:(1)Symptom expression differences:Gender identity significantly affects ADHD symptoms;male-identified individuals commonly perform worse in task orientation and attention stability, while female-identified individuals may demonstrate more variability in attention control and executive functions;(2)Diagnosis and treatment:Clinical practice generally neglects the impact of gender identity on ADHD management, with personalized needs of gender-identified individuals frequently not adequately addressed, potentially, affecting treatment outcomes;and(3)Future research directions:Future studies should further assess how gender identity affects the specific mechanisms of ADHD,conduct researches in multicultural contexts, and engage in long-term follow-up studies to evaluate the long-term impact of gender identity on ADHD progression.Besides, enhanced funding and public education on the relationship between gender identity and ADHD are needed to advance the field.
文摘Objectives:The climate crisis demands urgent action from all sectors of society, including young people in higher education. While previous research has explored individual and contextual predictors of pro-environmental behaviour(PEB),the contribution of Positive Youth Development(PYD)remains underexplored. This study investigates the relationship between PYD dimensions(Competence,Confidence,Connection,Character, and Caring)and two environmental outcomes:environmental habits and climate change awareness, considering gender differences. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 1779 students from 10 universities in Andalusia(Spain).Data were collected through an online survey assessing PYD indicators,PEB,and sociodemographic variables.Descriptive statistics,t-tests,correlation analyses, and multiple mediation models were performed. Results:Descriptive analyses indicated moderate levels of PYD dimensions and PEB across the sample.Among the 5 Cs,Caring had a positive association with environmental habits(r 0.22,p 0.001)and climate change awareness(r=<=0.30,p 0.001).Character also had a positive effect on both environmental habits(r 0.23,p 0.001)and climate<=<change awareness(r 0.30,p 0.001).Competence and Confidence were not significantly associated, and Connection=<demonstrated limited predictive value, potentially influenced by contextual or social factors.Gender differences were also identified, with women showing higher scores in Character(d 0.29,p 0.001),Caring(d 0.63,p 0.001),=<=<environmental habits(d 0.20,p 0.001)and climate change awareness(d 0.40,p 0.001),while men scored higher in=<=<Competence(d 0.57,p 0.001)and Confidence(d 0.22,p 0.001).Mediation analyses indicated that the association=<=<between gender and environmental habits was totally explained by Character(β95%CI:and=-0.02;-0.04;-0.01)Caring(β95%CI:Furthermore,the relationship between gender and climate change awareness=-0.04;-0.05,-0.02).was partially mediated by Character(β95%CI:and Caring(β95%CI:=-0.03;-0.05;-0.02)=-0.05;-0.07,-0.03).Conclusions:Females showed more environmental habits and climate change awareness than males, because of their greater scores in both Caring and Character dimensions of PYD.These findings highlight the importance of the PYD for promoting PEB and engaged citizens among young adults.Gender-sensitive and interdisciplinary interventions, such as environmental volunteering and community-based programmes, are recommended for university contexts to enhance sustainable development behaviours and values.
文摘Optic neuritis(ON)is a focal inflammatory demyelinating disorder of the optic nerve.Although classically regarded as a sentinel event for multiple sclerosis(MS),ON also occurs in antibody-mediated entities such as aquaporin-4-IgGpositive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder(AQP4-NMOSD)and myelinoligodendrocyte-glycoprotein-antibody disease. In all these settings biological sex is a pivotal determinant of susceptibility, clinical expression, treatment response and long-term outcome.Data synthesized from an extensive literature analysis utilizing PubMed,Scopus, and Web of Science in this review shows that women experience ON far more frequently–with female-to-male ratios ranging from 3:1 in MS to almost 9:1 in AQP4-NMOSD–yet men, when affected, tend to accumulate irreversible neuro-axonal loss more rapidly.Sex-specific patterns arise at every biological stratum:X-linked gene dosage, epigenetic regulation, hormonal cycles from puberty through menopause, metabolic co-modifiers such as obesity and vitamin-D status, and psychosocial forces that influence healthcare utilization.By weaving these elements into an expanded narrative, the present review provides a detailed resource for clinicians and investigators aiming at gender-tailored management of ON.
文摘Background: Sickle cell anemia(SCA), a genetic hemoglobin disorder, suggests essential inner ear compromise and poor auditory processing. SPIN performance depends on different attentional demands and sensorimotor processing strategies in noise beyond psychoacoustical processing may lead to better female performance in both populations.

文摘BACKGROUND Gender consciousness directly affects the development of gender identity, which is a continuous and lifelong process.Meanwhile, hospitalization is a part of many children's lives and has an impact on their gender development.AIM To investigate the current situation of gender identity in lower primary school children by conducting a survey of 202 hospitalized children in the lower grades and to provide a theoretical basis and foundation for the cultivation of gender identity and medical treatment of children based on the results. This study aims to inspire clinical medical staff to scientifically and reasonably arrange hospital wards for lower primary school children and pay attention to gender protection during the medical treatment process and to help children shape a unified and clear gender identity, which will enable them to better integrate into society and promote their personality development.METHODS The gender consciousness scale for elementary and middle school students was RESULTS Gender identity was already present in lower primary school children. The children's gender roles and gender equality consciousness were strong, exceeding the critical value, but their gender characteristics, gender identity, and gender ideal consciousness were weak.Children aged 6 had the weakest gender identity, and girls had significantly stronger gender identity than boys.CONCLUSION Gender identity is already present in lower primary school children, providing a basis and inspiration for the cultivation of gender identity and medical treatment of lower primary school children.Clinical medical staff should be aware of and understand these results and should scientifically and reasonably arrange hospital wards for lower primary school children.
文摘Marketing and design literature suggests that positioning a brand through the gender dimension of brand personality can influence consumers’perceptions of the brand. However, few studies have explored the role of fonts and brand gender consistency after brand gender-bending.Therefore,this study aims to explore whether the original font can continue to play a role in consumers’gender perceptions of the brand after brand gender-bending,and whether there are differences in perception between consumers of different genders.Based on the gender dimension in brand personality, this study uses logos composed of fonts with different gender traits to conduct a survey among two groups of participants for effective comparison.Six studies were conducted to examine the influence of fonts on brand gender perception during the process of brand gender-bending.The findings first demonstrate that the perception of font traits affects consumers’perception of brand gender traits. After brand gender-bending,the original font is perceived to exhibit opposite-gender or neutral traits, resulting in a decrease in the perception of the original brand’s gender traits.Additionally, there are differences in how consumers of different genders perceive the font and brand traits after gender-bending.
