Simulation of Fragment Impact on Multi-Layer Targets Using Contact Method

Cased explosives generate highly energetic fragments as their casing breaks up. Due to the complexity of casing fragment related behavior such as embedment, perforation and ricochet, it may be insufficient to use equivalent triangular pressure loading in fragment impact simulations. This simplified method may over- or under-predict the target response. Recently, a procedure using contact techniques has been proposed to overcome such difficulties. It has been shown that the new method has the inherent capability in modeling the multi-piece and multi-hit fragment impact problems in a more realistic way. To investigate the applicability of the proposed method to simulations involving multi-layer penetration, the selected problems of fragment impact on multi-layer targets are described in this paper. It is demonstrated that this method is capable of predicting the complicated multi-layer structural response caused by fragment impact and penetration. Modeling procedures and some technical issues are also discussed. 展开更多

Research on the Fragment Impact Resistance of a Composite Mast

Due to the unique structural mode and material property of a composite sandwich plate, related research such as fragment impact resistance of a composite mast is short of publication and urgent in this field. In this paper, the commonly accepted sandwich core board theory was modified. Damage caused by a fragment attack was simulated onto a sandwich plate model built with solid and shell elements. It was shown that shear failure and vast matrix cracking are the main reasons for outer coat damage, and tension failure and partial matrix cracking are the cause for inner coat damage. Additionally, according to complexities in actual sea battles, different work conditions of missile attacks were set. Ballistic limit values of different fragment sizes were also obtained, which provides references for enhancing the fragment impact resistance of a composite mast. 展开更多

Impact of cultivated land fragmentation on spatial heterogeneity of agricultural agglomeration in China 被引量:8

Systematically revealing the impact of cultivated land fragmentation(CLF)on the geographical agglomeration pattern of agricultural specialization(AS)has positive significance for national agricultural production management.Based on the data of the second national land survey and agricultural production,this study has explored the impact of CLF on spatial heterogeneity of agricultural agglomeration in China by comprehensively using the Theil index,ordinary least square model and geographically weighted regression.Results showed that:(1)the regional differentiation of the CLF in China is obvious,and the cultivated land fragmentation index is generally characterized by increasing pattern from northwest to southeast.(2)Spatially,the development level of AS in China has formed three high-value clusters in the Northeast China Plain,the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,and the middle of the Middle-lower Yangtze Plain;and the low-value contiguous areas centered on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and the Sichuan Basin and surrounding regions,with significant spatial differences.The contribution of grain crops,economic crops,and vegetables and melon to the level of AS was 74.63%,9.09%,and 16.28%,respectively,and the pattern of agricultural geographical aggregation dominated by grain crops has primarily taken in shape.(3)CLF is significantly negatively correlated with AS,and every 1%increase in the degree of CLF will result in a decrease of about 0.2%in AS.However,the impact of CLF on the geographic agglomeration of different crop categories or groups varies significantly.Among them,CLF has a prominent impact on the specialization level of grain crops and vegetables and melon.Each 1%increase in the CLF will reduce the specialization level of grain crops by 0.38%,and increase the level of vegetables and melon by about 0.22%.(4)According to the landscape characteristics of cultivated land,the degree of spatial division and agglomeration of cultivated land patches have a significant impact on the formation of geographical agglomerationpattern of AS,and the intensity and direction of influence show significant regional differentiation,while the patch size has no significant impact. 展开更多

A comprehensive treatment to the fragment identification and statistics for the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) simulation of hypervelocity impact is presented. Based on SPH method, combined with finite element method (FEM), the computation is performed. The fragments are identified by a new pre- and post-processing algorithm and then converted into a binary graph. The number of fragments and the attached SPH particles are determined by counting the quantity of connected domains on the binary graph. The size, velocity vector and mass of each fragment are calculated by the particles’ summation and weighted average. The dependence of this method on finite element edge length and simulation terminal time is discussed. An example of tungsten rods impacting steel plates is given for calibration. The computation results match experiments well and demonstrate the effectiveness of this method. 展开更多

According to relevant airworthiness standards, the aircraft fuel tank access cover must withstand the impact by tire fragments, and minimize the penetration and deformation, which is critical for flight safety. To assess the safety of an aircraft fuel tank access cover subjected to tire fragments, a study of dynamic response was presented in this paper using the Finite element(FE) software ANSYS/LS-DYNA. To obtain the reliable mechanical characteristics of tire tread rubber, a series of material tests have been conducted. Then the proposed rubber material model is validated by comparing the numerical simulations with the experimental results of aluminium alloy plate impact. The simulation results indicate that the rubber fragment and alloy plate will undergo the largest deformation when impact angle is equal to 90°. Finally, the proposed FE model and modelling approaches are extended to the numerical simulation of a full-scale aircraft fuel tank access cover impact. The numerical simulations are carried out with impact velocity of 71.1 m/s and impact angle of 40.5°. The simulation results indicate that the aluminium alloy by precision casting is more likely to rupture, and the middle region of the access cover is vulnerable to fragment impact. This research proposes a reliable rubber model applying to various strain rates. Considering the influence of impact regions, the dynamic response and various failure patterns of fuel tank access cover are acquired. The findings of this paper can be used to improve the future aircraft safety design. 展开更多

The Impacts and Causes of Land Fragmentation on Farm Productivity: Case Review of East African Countries 被引量:2

This report provides an overall assessment of land fragmentation problems in East Africa. Many parts of East Africa have become highly fragmented, putting development systems and activities in these areas at risk of complete collapse. Land fragmentation occurs when land gets converted for agriculture, industrialization, or urbanization, invaded by non-local plants, or enclosed for individual use and by subdividing farmlands into subsequent smaller units called parcels with varying average farm sizes. Fragmentation results from inappropriate agricultural development processes and ineffective land use planning that fails to recognize how farmland is used, and the importance of its interconnected areas. Insecurity of tenure and resource rights are key factors in making this possible. Land fragmentation is one of the key reasons why the ability of most resources in East Africa becomes scarcer, and those remaining become “privatized” by more powerful community members—keen to maintain their access to them. Such individualistic attitudes are new and disadvantage the poorest even further by affecting the traditional customary safety nets and agricultural outputs. Neither the government nor customary governance systems effectively protect resource access for the poorest. This review summary report identifies the key causes, measures, and implications, government interventions, and the common remedies to land fragmentation problems in the East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania including neighboring Ethiopia, and the Sudan. The findings indicated from 2005 to 2015, the population kept increasing for all the named countries in East Africa with Rwanda and Uganda having a substantial increase in population density. The study review further explores the trend in the performance of agriculture by average farm sizes within the intervals of five years by highlighting their strong linkages and found that the average farm size has declined drastically, especially for Kenya. This can only mean that small farms kept becoming smaller and smaller and that there were more small-scale farmers. The results further depicted that the major and commonly cultivated food crops among the East African countries include maize, sorghum, rice, cassava, sweet potatoes, bananas, Irish potatoes, beans, peas, etc., with maize yields (Mt/ha) in 2003 for Uganda being the highest (1.79 Mt/ha) and the lowest in Rwanda (0.77 Mt/ha) respectively. Therefore, from the review results, recommendations are being made as to how the negative impacts of land fragmentation on agricultural productivity can be reduced or mitigated. One way is by community sensitization and awareness about the importance of land consolidation and its proposition on farm productivity. 展开更多

Based on this, a progressive fragment model was proposed which describes the failure wave formation and propagation in shocked ceramics. The governing equation of the failure wave was characterized by inelastic bulk strain with material damage and fracture. And the inelastic bulk strain consists of dilatant strain from nucleation and expansion of microcracks and condensed strain from collapse of original pores. Numerical simulation of the free surface velocity was performed in good agreement with planar impact experiments on 92.93% aluminas at China Academy of Engineering Physics. And the longitudinal, lateral and shear stress histories upon the arrival of the failure wave were predicted, which present the diminished shear strength and lost spall strength in the failed layer. 展开更多

冻融循环作用下砂岩的动态冲击特性试验研究

为研究冻融循环对砂岩动态力学性能和微观结构特征的影响,对冻融0,30,60,90,120次的砂岩进行了冲击速度分别为3,6,9 m/s的动态冲击压缩试验、核磁共振检测以及电镜扫描。结果表明,冻融砂岩的动态冲击破坏模式整体上为粉碎破坏,随着冻融... 为研究冻融循环对砂岩动态力学性能和微观结构特征的影响,对冻融0,30,60,90,120次的砂岩进行了冲击速度分别为3,6,9 m/s的动态冲击压缩试验、核磁共振检测以及电镜扫描。结果表明,冻融砂岩的动态冲击破坏模式整体上为粉碎破坏,随着冻融循环次数和冲击速度的增加,砂岩的破碎程度加大,碎块尺度减小,碎块数量和粉末占比增多,分形维数增大。在相同冲击速度下,随着冻融循环次数的增加,砂岩的动态力学性能不断劣化;各动态力学性能指标均具有率相关效应。此外,建立了冻融砂岩的动态峰值应力指数衰减模型,证明了冲击速度可以在一定程度上补偿冻融循环的损伤劣化作用,使冻融砂岩衰减常数减小,半衰期延后。所建立的分形维数−动态强度演化方程,使得分形维数不仅能定量描述砂岩冲击破坏后的破碎程度,还能进一步预测其动态强度。随着冻融循环次数的增加,砂岩内部孔洞、裂隙尺寸扩大且数量增多,结构损伤程度加剧;基于上述结果,探究了冻融循环作用下砂岩的损伤破坏机制,发现砂岩的冻融损伤是多种因素共同作用的结果。该研究可为寒冷地区岩石工程提供相关参考。 展开更多

崩塌落石灾害作为山区常见的主要地质灾害类型,具有显著的突发性与随机性特征,且运动中的碰撞碎裂过程复杂,能量转化机制不明,易造成人员伤亡和财产损失。本文以落石碰撞碎裂现象为切入点,设计了灰岩相似材料法向碰撞试验,通过精细测量... 崩塌落石灾害作为山区常见的主要地质灾害类型,具有显著的突发性与随机性特征,且运动中的碰撞碎裂过程复杂,能量转化机制不明,易造成人员伤亡和财产损失。本文以落石碰撞碎裂现象为切入点,设计了灰岩相似材料法向碰撞试验,通过精细测量试样碰撞碎裂动力学参数,提取相应的能量大小,重点分析不同初始条件下试样碰撞碎裂过程中的能量转化问题。结果表明:碰撞碎裂过程具有明显的阶段性并存在碎裂程度差异。能量耗散主要包括弹塑性变形能与断裂能,占比可达91.94%;剩余碎裂块体的动能仅占比8.05%;能量转化率与初始总能量成负相关。定义基于弹性应变能的碎裂度量化指标,并对比不同材料试样的法向碰撞试验结果,发现落石碰撞碎裂具有一致性规律;进一步对比斜板碰撞试验,发现撞击角度对试样碎裂度影响较大,并且控制了能量的转化效率。上述结论可提升对崩塌落石灾害撞击碎裂过程中能量转化的认识水平,为治理方案设计提供支撑。 展开更多

Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)fiber composite has been extensively used to construct lightweight protective structures against ballistic impacts,yet little is known about its performance when subjected to combined blast and fragment impacts.Built upon a recently developed laboratory-scale experimental technique to generate simulated combined loading through the impact of a fragment-foam composite projectile launched from a light gas gun,the dynamic responses of fullyclamped UHMWPE plates subjected to combined loading were characterized experimentally,with corresponding deformation and failure modes compared with those measured with simulated blast loading alone.Subsequently,to explore the underlying physical mechanisms,three-dimensional(3D)numerical simulations with the method of finite elements(FE)were systematically carried out.Numerical predictions compared favorably well with experimental measurements,thus validating the feasibility of the established FE model.Relative to the case of blast loading alone,combined blast and fragment loading led to larger maximum deflections of clamped UHMWPE plates.The position of the FSP in the foam sabot affected significantly the performance of a UHMWPE target,either enhancing or decreasing its ballistic resistance.When the blast loading and fragment impact arrived simultaneously at the target,its ballistic resistance was superior to that achieved when subjected to fragment impact alone,and benefited from the accelerated movement of the target due to simultaneous blast loading. 展开更多

Although the M+ ions and double charge ions M2+ were notobserved in E1 mass spectra, some strange ions such as [M-2]+ ions,[M-R]+ ions , [M-R-l]+ ions, [M-2R]+ ions and even [RX]+ ions presented in EIMS by decreasing the electron energy. These phenomena may be explained as R+ rearrangement and intermolecular reaction occurring in the condensed phase. Taylor impact test on aluminum alloy 7A04-T6 presented in a previous study has been numerically evaluated using the finite element code ABAQUS/Explicit in this paper. The influence of fracture criterion in numerical simulations of the deformation and fracture behavior of Taylor rod has been studied. The following fracture criterions, included a modified version of Johnson-Cook, the Cockcroft-Latham(C-L), the constant fracture strain, the maximum shear stress and the maximum principle stress fracture models, have been used in this paper. Model constants for each criterion are calibrated from material tests. The modified version of Johnson-Cook fracture criterion with the stress triaxiality cut-off idea used can give good prediction to the Taylor impact fracture behavior. However, the C-L fracture criterion with only a constant required for calibrating by a simple test is found to give reasonable predictions. Unfortunately, the other three criteria are not able to repeat the experimentally obtained fracture behavior. The result indicates that the stress triaxiality cut-off idea is necessary to predict the Taylor impact fracture. 展开更多

Mass spectrometric behaviour of (R) -1- ( 4-alkylphenyl ) alcohols, 1- (4-alkoxylphenyl) alcohols, and 1- (4-alkylthiophenyl) alcohols were studied with the aid of mass-analyzed ion kinetic energy spectrometry under electron impact ionization. All the title compounds show a tendency to eliminate a water molecule to form alkene ions and undergo an a-cleavago to produce protonated aldehyde ions by the loss of alkyl radicals. Except these two common fragment ions, they also show some different fragmentations due to with or without oxy/thioether-linkage. 展开更多

为揭示破片撞击高能推进剂装药爆燃形成机理,开展破片半穿孔和贯穿高能推进剂装药实验研究,获得3种装药响应类型,分别为燃烧转爆燃、燃烧和爆燃。基于装药反应演化时序图像和回收的样品,并结合图像数字化处理技术综合表征装药响应过程;... 为揭示破片撞击高能推进剂装药爆燃形成机理,开展破片半穿孔和贯穿高能推进剂装药实验研究,获得3种装药响应类型,分别为燃烧转爆燃、燃烧和爆燃。基于装药反应演化时序图像和回收的样品,并结合图像数字化处理技术综合表征装药响应过程;分析推进剂受侵彻后的力学变形和装药响应特性,揭示装药在半穿孔和贯穿条件下的爆燃形成机理。研究结果表明:针对直径10 mm钨合金球破片撞击高能推进剂装药,装药侵彻弹道损伤为局部径向开裂,并伴有黏弹性耗散导致的延迟变形;装药在半穿孔和贯穿下均存在延迟反应现象,即装药的显著燃烧反应总是发生在推进剂结构破坏之后;在半穿孔时延迟变形促使装药内部高烈度反应区前移,并与结构约束耦合,导致装药发生燃烧转爆燃,在贯穿状态下,延迟变形和延迟反应显著存在时,装药难于发生爆燃;当弹坑内部燃烧气体通过侵彻弹道径向裂缝渗入未反应的凝聚相推进剂时,装药通常会发生爆燃反应。 展开更多

落石碰撞碎裂过程能量转化规律试验研究

崩塌落石是山体或岩体在重力与其他外力(如风化、地震等)作用下,沿斜坡快速滚落或坠落的地质过程。此类灾害具有随机性强、隐蔽性高和突发显著等特点,导致其难以被有效预测与防控。本文基于落石相似材料的法向碰撞试验,系统研究了其动... 崩塌落石是山体或岩体在重力与其他外力(如风化、地震等)作用下,沿斜坡快速滚落或坠落的地质过程。此类灾害具有随机性强、隐蔽性高和突发显著等特点,导致其难以被有效预测与防控。本文基于落石相似材料的法向碰撞试验,系统研究了其动力破碎机理与冲击加载率之间的关系。主要结论为:(1)试样破碎过程始于若干明显裂纹的生成,随着冲击加载率的提高,裂纹逐渐扩展并贯通,最终导致试样整体破碎。除撞击区形成锥形块体外,其余碎块呈放射状弹射飞溅。(2)提出撞击能量比率α,用于表征碰撞过程中的能量转化特征。随着冲击加载率升高,撞击前后总动能增长率不一致,α呈逐渐下降趋势,其变化符合幂律分布规律。(3)冲击加载率增加加剧了试样的破碎程度,新增破碎表面积显著提升,而能量比率α随之降低,表明破碎过程中部分能量被新生表面所消耗。(4)地震动信号强度随撞击速度与试样直径的增大而增强;同时,随着试样直径增大,信号的主导频率呈逐渐降低趋势。 展开更多

采用Φ75mm霍普金森压杆(SHPB)系统,对高温后素混凝土(PC)和玄武岩纤维增强混凝土(BFRC)开展了动态冲击压缩试验,研究了试件在温度作用和冲击气压作用下的能耗特性、破碎分形的变化规律,并采用扫描电镜技术对不同温度作用下的PC和BFRC... 采用Φ75mm霍普金森压杆(SHPB)系统,对高温后素混凝土(PC)和玄武岩纤维增强混凝土(BFRC)开展了动态冲击压缩试验,研究了试件在温度作用和冲击气压作用下的能耗特性、破碎分形的变化规律,并采用扫描电镜技术对不同温度作用下的PC和BFRC进行微观结构分析。结果表明:BFRC的冲击耗散能随温度的增加呈先增大后减小趋势,与冲击气压呈正相关。温度越高,试件的耗散能、能量吸收率水平越低,相同条件下BFRC的耗散能、能量吸收率明显高于PC,且脆性特征相比PC更为明显。PC整体的分维值水平要大于BFRC。当温度小于200℃时,两种混凝土的分维值差异较明显;温度超过200℃后,两种混凝土的分维值差异逐渐降低;温度为800℃时,两种混凝土的分维值差异不大,基本一致。PC在25℃的破坏形式主要是穿晶破坏和沿晶破坏,200~400℃时韧窝数量不断增加,而BFRC在400℃时才出现少量韧窝,说明玄武岩纤维可改善高温对混凝土的劣化程度,提高混凝土的耐高温性能。 展开更多

为准确评估高速破片撞击下弹药装药的反应等级,基于高速破片加载装置,利用光子多普勒测速仪(PDV)、高速摄影、冲击波超压、自短路电探针等测试技术,以一种HMX基装药(PBX-8)为试验对象,结合静爆试验,对不同撞击条件下的装药反应等级进行... 为准确评估高速破片撞击下弹药装药的反应等级,基于高速破片加载装置,利用光子多普勒测速仪(PDV)、高速摄影、冲击波超压、自短路电探针等测试技术,以一种HMX基装药(PBX-8)为试验对象,结合静爆试验,对不同撞击条件下的装药反应等级进行了试验研究。结果表明,无反应等级与燃烧等级评估以装药反应过程宏观图像及剩余残骸情况为主进行定性评估,对于爆燃、爆炸与爆轰等级,可采用基于冲击波超压、壳体膨胀速度及反应时间等量化参量获得的反应烈度量化值进行准确评估,其中爆燃与爆炸反应等级反应烈度量化值存在量级差异。在相同的撞击速度条件下,破片撞击弹药装药位置的不同可影响装药的最终反应烈度。 展开更多
