There are many methods to identify and recognize the molecular and behavioural differences between organisms.One of the methods for the detection and identification of unknown organisms as well as intermolecular and i...There are many methods to identify and recognize the molecular and behavioural differences between organisms.One of the methods for the detection and identification of unknown organisms as well as intermolecular and intramolecular structural differences is MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.Therefore,differentiation of Fomes fomentarius decay capabilities on the chemical properties of the wood cell wall of the tree species Quercus castaneifolia,Juglans regia,and Carpinus betulus were used to determine and characterize the destructive behaviour of F.fomentarius decay by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.The results showed that the fungus had more significant destructive behaviour on J.regia than the other species.For this evidence,completely removal of xylan hemicellulose fragment+Na+at peak 1227 Da and severe digestion of fragment of glucomannan hemicellulose at peak 1477–1480 Da that it seems that signs of soft-rot patterns were obtained from the decayed sample of J.regia,while these were incremental and unchanged for C.betulus and Q.castaneifolia,respectively.However,C.betulus had different peaks of atomic mass than J.regia and Q.castaneifolia wood,respectively.These results showed that this technique could be useful for separating and identifying unknown compounds of the wood cell wall attacked by fungi relying on their biological behaviour.展开更多
In this work the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of the fractions with different polarity,obtained from water-ethanol dry extracts from Fomes fomentarius,has been investigated.Fractions of different polarities,...In this work the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of the fractions with different polarity,obtained from water-ethanol dry extracts from Fomes fomentarius,has been investigated.Fractions of different polarities,obtained from water-alcohol dry extract from Inonotus obliquus,were used as comparison samples.It has been shown,that the most phenol-rich(73.571±21.268 mg E/g)ethyl acetate and ethanol(36.343±10.241 mg E/g)fractions from Fomes fomentarius demonstrated the highest radical scavenging activity against DPPH(IС50:515.6±100.5μg/ml;751.2±19.3μg/ml,respectively)and ABTS(IС_(50):229.7±9.6μg/ml;423.3±0.66μg/ml,respectively).It has been found,that chloroform,ethyl acetate and ethanol fractions from Fomes fomentarius exhibit antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus.展开更多
Mushrooms are attracting great attention as source of nutrients and biologically active molecules that can be used in the formulation of novel functional foods.Fomes fomentarius(FF),commonly named tinder fungus,is a p...Mushrooms are attracting great attention as source of nutrients and biologically active molecules that can be used in the formulation of novel functional foods.Fomes fomentarius(FF),commonly named tinder fungus,is a polypore mushroom which is considered edible but not palatable and not normally consumed as food.However,its nutritional and functional composition places it as an interesting species to obtain bioactive ingredients.In this context,this work reviewed the scientific literature related to FF as raw material to recover fractions with different bioactivities,attending to the utilized extraction or isolation procedures,the tested properties,and the experimental models,analysing the reported results and their implication on human health,as well as current strengths and limitations.Phenolic compounds,polysaccharides,and specific lipids,among others,have been extracted using mainly conventional procedures leading to biologically active fractions exerting antioxidant,antiproliferative and antimicrobial properties and,although still investigated in just a few works,anti-inflammatory,hypoglycemic,hypohocolesterolemic,etc.Despite the promising results that have been already published,further research must be carried out,addressing other FF molecules such as proteins and peptides,novel and advanced extraction technologies,bioaccesibility and bioavailability studies,additional in vivo ex-periments through animal models and clinical trials,and sensory and consumer analyses to finally develop functional foods based on FF ingredients.展开更多
