High-precision magnetic field measurements are crucial for understanding Earth’s internal structure, space environment, and dynamic geomagnetic variations.Data from the Fluxgate Magnetometer (FGM) on the Macao Science Satellite-1A (MSS-1A),added to data from other space-based magnetometers, should increase significantly the ability of scientists to observe changes in Earth’s magnetic field over time and space.Additionally, the MSS-1A’s FGM is intended to help identify magnetic disturbances affecting the spacecraft itself. This report focuses on the in-flight calibration of the MSS-1 FGM.A scalar calibration, independent of geomagnetic field models, was performed to correct offsets, sensitivities, and misalignment angles of the FGM.Using seven months of data,we find that the in-flight calibration parameters show good stability. We determined Euler angles describing the rotational relationship between the FGM and the Advanced Stellar Compass (ASC) coordinate system using two approaches:calibration with the CHAOS-7 geomagnetic field model, and simultaneous estimation of Euler angles and Gaussian spherical harmonic coefficients through self-consistent modeling. The accuracy of Euler angles describing the rotation was better than 18 arcsec. The calibrated FGM data exhibit good agreement with the calibrated data of the Vector Field Magnetometer (VFM),which is the primary vector magnetometer of the satellite. These calibration efforts have significantly improved the accuracy of the FGM measurements, which are now providing reliable data for geomagnetic field studies that promise to advance our understanding of the Earth’s magnetic environment. 展开更多

In-flight calibration of the ze ro offset is crucial for ensuring high-precision measure ment of the spaceborne fluxgate magnetomete r.Tianwen-1 is China’s first Mars mission, and its orbiter will re main out of the solar wind for tens of days each year.Previous in-flight calibration methods might not be suitable for this orbiter during such a period.Recently,a new method was proposed by Wang GQ(2022 b),which we refer to as the Wang method Ⅱ for ease of description. Here,we test the performance of this method in the Martian magnetosheath by using magnetic field data measured by the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN(MAVEN) spacecraft. We find that the accuracy of the Wang method Ⅱ is affected by the number of magnetic field subinterval events, the eigenvalues of the minimum variance analysis for each event, and the position of the spacecraft in the magnetosheath. The estimated zero offset varies over a period of~27 days and has a 57.3% probability of accuracy within 2.0 nT.After being smoothed with a temporal window of 27 days, the ze ro offset has a 48.4%(99.3%) probability of accuracy within 1.0(2.0) nT.Our tests suggest that the Wang method Ⅱ provides an option for the Tianwen-1 orbiter to perform in-flight calibration when the orbiter remains out of the solar wind for an extended pe riod of time. 展开更多

Fluxgate current sensors(FGCSs)are increasingly employed in power systems due to their high-precision characteristics, yet their measurement flexibility remains constrained by conventional closed-core designs. To address this limitation,we proposed a split-core sensor structure comprising four magnetic core strips, which achieved non-intrusive current measurement while maintaining detection accuracy. An analytical model of the induced electromotive force was established based on the probe’s geometric configuration, followed by finite element simulations to optimize key parameters including core radius, core width, excitation coil turns, and sensing coil configuration.A complete prototype integrating the measurement probe, excitation circuit, and signal processing circuitry was developed and experimentally validated. The experimental results show a sensitivity of 0.1099 V/A,a hysteresis error of 0.559%,and a repeatability error of 1.574%over a measurement range of±10 A.After polynomial fitting-based error compensation, the nonlinearity error was reduced to 0.208%,achieving performance comparable to closed-core sensors. This work provided a practical solution for applications demanding both high measurement accuracy and installation flexibility. 展开更多

The Macao Science Satellite-1(known as MSS-1)is the first scientific exploration satellite that was designed to measure the Earth's low latitude magnetic field at high resolution and with high precision by collecting data in a near-equatorial orbit.Magnetic field data from MSS-1's onboard Vector Fluxgate Magnetometer(VFM),collected at a sample rate of 50 Hz,allows us to detect and investigate sources of magnetic data contamination, from DC to relevant Nyquist frequency. Here we report two types of artificial disturbances in the VFM data. One is V-shaped events concentrated at night, with frequencies sweeping from the Nyquist frequency down to zero and back up.The other is 5-Hz events(ones that exhibit a distinct 5 Hz spectrum peak);these events are always accompanied by intervals of spiky signals, and are clearly related to the attitude control of the satellite. Our analyses show that VFM noise levels in daytime are systematically lower than in nighttime. The daily average noise levels exhibit a period of about 52 days. The V-shaped events are strongly correlated with higher VFM noise levels. 展开更多

Twenty-seven FHDZ-M15 combined geomagnetic observation systems(each of which is equipped with a fluxgate magnetometer and a proton magnetometer)had been installed in the China geomagnetic network before the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, during which coseismic disturbances were recorded by 26 fluxgate magnetometer observatories. The geomagnetic disturbances have similar spatial and temporal patterns to seismic waves, except for various delays.Six proton magnetometer observatories recorded coseismic disturbances with very small amplitudes. In addition, fluxgate magnetometers registered largeamplitude disturbances that are likely to have included responses to seismic waves. However, two problems remain unresolved.First, why do these geomagnetic disturbances always arrive later than P waves?Second, why do the geomagnetic disturbances have spatial and temporal directivity similar to the main rupture direction of the earthquake?Solving these two problems may be crucial to find the mechanism responsible for generating these geomagnetic anomalies. 展开更多

The High Precision Magnetometer(HPM) on board the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite(CSES) allows highly accurate measurement of the geomagnetic field; it includes FGM(Fluxgate Magnetometer) and CDSM(Coupled Dark State Magnetometer)probes. This article introduces the main processing method, algorithm, and processing procedure of the HPM data. First, the FGM and CDSM probes are calibrated according to ground sensor data. Then the FGM linear parameters can be corrected in orbit, by applying the absolute vector magnetic field correction algorithm from CDSM data. At the same time, the magnetic interference of the satellite is eliminated according to ground-satellite magnetic test results. Finally, according to the characteristics of the magnetic field direction in the low latitude region, the transformation matrix between FGM probe and star sensor is calibrated in orbit to determine the correct direction of the magnetic field. Comparing the magnetic field data of CSES and SWARM satellites in five continuous geomagnetic quiet days, the difference in measurements of the vector magnetic field is about 10 nT, which is within the uncertainty interval of geomagnetic disturbance. 展开更多

The space-borne fluxgate magnetometer(FGM)requires regular in-flight calibration to obtain its zero offset.Recently,Wang GQ and Pan ZH(2021a)developed a new method for the zero offset calibration based on the properties of Alfvén waves. They found that an optimal offset line(OOL)exists in the offset cube for a pure Alfvén wave and that the zero offset can be determined by the intersection of at least two nonparallel OOLs.Because no pure Alfvén waves exist in the interplanetary magnetic field, calculation of the zero offset relies on the selection of highly Alfvénic fluctuation events. Here,we propose an automatic procedure to find highly Alfvénic fluctuations in the solar wind and calculate the zero offset. This procedure includes three parts:(1)selecting potential Alfvénic fluctuation events,(2)obtaining the OOL,and(3)determining the zero offset. We tested our automatic procedure by applying it to the magnetic field data measured by the FGM onboard the Venus Express. The tests revealed that our automatic procedure was able to achieve results as good as those determined by the Davis-Smith method. One advantage of our procedure is that the selection criteria and the process for selecting the highly Alfvénic fluctuation events are simpler. Our automatic procedure could also be applied to find fluctuation events for the Davis-Smith method. 展开更多

If humidity is too high or the change is too fast it will lead to an abnormal change on data. The intelligent real-time humidity analysis and monitoring system of a geomagnetic room and probe can not only monitor and display the change of humidity in the geomagnetic room and send an alarm signal when it exceeds the pre-set range, but also dehumidify intelligently. One can arbitrarily control the sensor to monitor the ambient humidity of the probe in order to ensure that the data is stable and true. The design idea and main functions of the system are introduced in the paper. 展开更多

The China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite(CSES) is the first platform of China's earthquake observation system in space and the first satellite of China's geophysical field detection missions. The high precision magnetometer(HPM), which contains two fluxgate sensors and a coupled dark state magnetometer(CDSM), measures the vector of the Earth's magnetic field with a bandwidth from DC to 15 Hz. The two fluxgate sensors are in a gradiometer configuration in order to reduce satellite interferences. Additionally, the CDSM sensor measures the scalar value of the magnetic field with higher accuracy and stability.Several data processing and calibration methods have been prepared to get accurate vector magnetic field data. This includes the calibration of each of the three sensors, the absolute vector correction algorithm, the spacecraft magnetic interference elimination and the coordinate transformation method. Also the instrument performances based on ground calibration activities are shown in this article. 展开更多
