First attempt to use a remotely operated vehicle to observe soniferous fish behavior in the Gulf of Maine,Western Atlantic Ocean

Underwater sound and video observations were made at noon, sunset, and midnight in sand, gravel, and boulder habitat in the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, Gulf of Maine, USA in October 2001 using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Seventeen species of fish and squid were observed with clear habitat and time differences. Observations of feeding behavior, disturbance behavior, and both interspecific and intraspecific interactions provided numerous opportunities for potential sound production; however, sounds were recorded only during a single dive. Although high noise levels generated by the ROV and support ship may have masked some sounds, we conclude that fish sound production in the Gulf of Maine during the fall is uncommon. The recorded fish sounds are tentatively attributed to the cusk Brosme brosme. Cusk sounds consisted variously of isolated thumps, widely spaced thump trains, drumrolls, and their combinations. Frequency peaks were observed at 188, 539, and 1195 Hz. Use of a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) as a passive acoustic observation platform was problematic due to high ROV self-noise and the ROV's inability to maintain a fixed position on the bottom without thruster power. Some fishes were clearly also disturbed by ROV noise, indicating a potential ROV sampling bias. Based on our observations, we suggest that new instruments incorporating both optic and passive acoustic technologies are needed to provide better tools for in situ behavioral studies ofcusk and other fishes [Current Zoology 56 (1): 90-99 2010]. 展开更多

Accurate and rapid detection of fish behaviors is critical to perceive health and welfare by allowing farmers to make informed management deci-sions about recirculating the aquaculture system while decreasing labor.The classic detection approach involves placing sensors on the skin or body of the fish,which may interfere with typical behavior and welfare.The progress of deep learning and computer vision technologies opens up new opportunities to understand the biological basis of this behavior and precisely quantify behaviors that contribute to achieving accurate management in precision farming and higher production efficacy.This study develops an intelligent fish behavior classification using modified invasive weed optimization with an ensemble fusion(IFBC-MIWOEF)model.The presented IFBC-MIWOEF model focuses on identifying the distinct kinds of fish behavior classification.To accomplish this,the IFBC-MIWOEF model designs an ensemble of Deep Learning(DL)based fusion models such as VGG-19,DenseNet,and Effi-cientNet models for fish behavior classification.In addition,the hyperparam-eter tuning of the DL models is carried out using the MIWO algorithm,which is derived from the concepts of oppositional-based learning(OBL)and the IWO algorithm.Finally,the softmax(SM)layer at the end of the DL model categorizes the input into distinct fish behavior classes.The experimental validation of the IFBC-MIWOEF model is tested using fish videos,and the results are examined under distinct aspects.An Extensive comparative study pointed out the improved outcomes of the IFBC-MIWOEF model over recent approaches. 展开更多

In this study,fish behavior and fish injury at different operating conditions are investigated via numerical simulation to evaluate the fish-friendliness of an axial pump that comprises an inlet pipe,a rotor with six blades,a stator with eight vanes,and an outlet pipe.To precisely obtain the flow field when the fish passes through the axial pump,a hybrid large eddy simulation and immersed boundary method is adopted with the full consideration of the fluid-structure interaction comprehensively.The results indicate that the collision between the fish and the wall of flow components in the axial pump is concentrated near the inlet of the rotor,which results in the complexity of the fish trajectory,especially under the large flow rate condition.It is noted that the fish is likely to move in the reverse direction of the main flow after the impact with the rotor blade if the flow rate coefficient is too large,which increases the possibility of collision between the fish and the rotor blade.It is also indicated that the primary factor affecting the strike injury on the fish when it passes through the axial pump is the strike between the fish and the leading edge of the rotor blade.In addition,the strike injury becomes more significant as the flow rate coefficient increases.Furthermore,the results demonstrate that the fish may simultaneously suffer from strike,pressure,and shear stress injuries,once the collision between the fish and the wall of flow components occurs in the axial pump,thus aggravating the combined damage on the fish.Based on these results,it is recommended that hydraulic machinery should not be operated at large flow rates during fish migration from the view of fish-friendliness. 展开更多

Dissolved oxygen(DO)content is an important index of river water quality.Water quality sensors have been used in China for urban river water monitoring and DO content prediction.However,water quality sensors are expensive and difficult to maintain,and have a short operation period and difficult to maintain.This study developed a scientific and accurate method for prediction of DO content changes using fish school features.The behavioral features of the Carassius auratus fish school were described using two-dimensional fish school images.The degree of DO content decline was graded into five levels,and the corresponding numerical ranges of cluster characteristic parameters were determined by considering the opinions of ichthyologists.Finally,the variation of DO content was predicted using the characteristic parameters of the fish school and the multiple-input single-output Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy neural network.The prediction results were basically consistent with the actual variations of DO content.Therefore,it is feasible to use the behavioral features of the fish school to dynamically predict the level of DO content in water,and this method is especially suitable for prediction of sharp decline of DO content in a relatively short time. 展开更多

【目的】为探究草鱼在复杂变化水力环境下是否存在稳定的自主偏好水流速度范围。【方法】以长江流域重要经济鱼类草鱼(全长20.5~25.5 cm)为对象,在开放自循环变频水槽中设置3种沿水流方向等宽平行分布的流速范围,并设置包含3种不同流速... 【目的】为探究草鱼在复杂变化水力环境下是否存在稳定的自主偏好水流速度范围。【方法】以长江流域重要经济鱼类草鱼(全长20.5~25.5 cm)为对象,在开放自循环变频水槽中设置3种沿水流方向等宽平行分布的流速范围,并设置包含3种不同流速(低、中、高)的所有组合工况,分别为工况Ⅰ(高-低-中工况,0.65-0.32-0.47 m/s)、工况Ⅱ(低-高-中工况,0.27-0.78-0.48 m/s)与工况Ⅲ(低-中-高工况,0.23-0.43-0.91 m/s),对比分析草鱼在3种复杂变化水力环境工况下的自主上溯行为,通过将背景流场与鱼类运动轨迹相耦合,结合两者概率密度函数布尔运算量化草鱼偏好流速范围。【结果】①草鱼在3种复杂变化水力环境中的停留时间随流速减小而延长,偏好选择低、中流速区而避开高流速区;②3种工况下,草鱼均偏好停留在靠近水槽边壁的低、中流速区域,偏好流速范围分别为工况Ⅰ:0.40~0.45 m/s与0.60~0.67 m/s、工况Ⅱ:0.41~0.50 m/s与工况Ⅲ:0.18~0.31 m/s;③背景流速概率密度分布相似时(如工况Ⅰ与工况Ⅱ),草鱼存在稳定的偏好流速范围,为0.41~0.45 m/s,当背景流速概率密度分布不同时(如工况Ⅲ与工况Ⅰ、Ⅱ),草鱼的偏好流速不同,其偏好背景流速中概率密度分布较高且流速较低的区域。【结论】草鱼均偏好3种工况下的低、中流速区,且在复杂变化水力环境中草鱼存在稳定偏好水流速度。本研究结果可为塑造符合鱼类生态习性的鱼道水力环境及鱼类栖息地生境修复方案提供科学参考。 展开更多

基于H-SORT跟踪的锦鲤行为量化指标及溶解氧浓度响应分析

为准确表征溶解氧(DO)浓度对锦鲤行为的影响,提出基于目标跟踪的平面运动方向熵(PMDE)与群体聚集指数(GAI)新型量化指标。首先,基于SORT算法,引入HOG轮廓特征构建H-SORT目标跟踪器,然后,通过加权融合策略优化匹配机制,提升实时跟踪锦鲤... 为准确表征溶解氧(DO)浓度对锦鲤行为的影响,提出基于目标跟踪的平面运动方向熵(PMDE)与群体聚集指数(GAI)新型量化指标。首先,基于SORT算法,引入HOG轮廓特征构建H-SORT目标跟踪器,然后,通过加权融合策略优化匹配机制,提升实时跟踪锦鲤的稳定性;最后,基于PMDE与GAI两个量化指标,对比分析不同DO浓度下的锦鲤状态。研究表明,H-SORT算法在10 s内对锦鲤的跟踪保持率提高了27.8%,有效提升了鱼群遮挡情况下的识别精度;PMDE与DO浓度的Spearman相关系数达-0.966 9,较平均游动速度(Avg_Speed)提升0.240 7,能有效捕捉不同DO浓度下锦鲤行为特征、反映DO动态变化和DO波动对锦鲤游动行为的影响;GAI与DO浓度表现出-0.924 0的强负相关性,较平均距离(AD)提升0.202 8,且GAI数据波动在±0.05内。本研究改进的跟踪算法与提出的量化指标有效分析了DO浓度对鱼群行为的影响,为水产养殖中基于鱼群行为的水质监测与预警提供了依据。 展开更多

针对网箱等复杂环境下大黄鱼(Larimichthys crocea)行为声学在线监测及资源量精准评估难题,研究水平方向分裂波束科学探鱼仪系统在实际网箱养殖环境中的适用性。实验采用科学探鱼仪(Kongsberg,EK80型,200 kHz)于水池内进行了水平方向分... 针对网箱等复杂环境下大黄鱼(Larimichthys crocea)行为声学在线监测及资源量精准评估难题,研究水平方向分裂波束科学探鱼仪系统在实际网箱养殖环境中的适用性。实验采用科学探鱼仪(Kongsberg,EK80型,200 kHz)于水池内进行了水平方向分裂波束的标准球测位精度实验,并在舟山六横海洋牧场利用该系统对网箱内养殖大黄鱼进行24 h连续监测,同时,对基于网箱坐标系的大黄鱼姿态角、游速及原位(in situ)目标强度等进行了分析。结果显示,网箱中心区附近大黄鱼游动的偏航角离散度高,靠近网箱边缘区域的大黄鱼偏航角较为集中,呈现沿网箱边缘往复游动的规律。大黄鱼俯仰角符合正态分布,均值为0.48°,标准差为13.38(P>0.05)。投喂时段平均游速最高,为0.321 m/s,昼间平均游速为0.242 m/s,夜间游速最低,均值为0.123 m/s。在水平波束入射条件下,大黄鱼目标强度随偏航角呈周期性变化,余弦模型拟合度最高(R2=0.50),拟合模型为TS=-43.41-6.99cos(2θ)。本研究可为有效监测网箱养殖大黄鱼的行为指标,实现网箱养殖数智化监测及资源量声学精准评估提供科学依据。 展开更多

Fish behavior analysis for recognizing stress is very important for fish welfare and production management in aquaculture.Recent advances have been made in fish behavior analysis based on deep learning.However,most existing methods with top performance rely on considerable memory and computational resources,which is impractical in the real-world scenario.In order to overcome the limitations of these methods,a new method based on knowledge distillation is proposed to identify the stress states of fish schools.The knowledge distillation architecture transfers additional inter-class information via a mixed relative loss function,and it forces a lightweight network(GhostNet)to mimic the soft probabilities output of a well-trained fish stress state recognition network(ResNeXt101).The fish school stress state recognition model’s accuracy is improved from 94.17%to 98.12%benefiting from the method.The proposed model has about 5.18 M parameters and requires 0.15 G FLOPs(floating-point operations)to process an image of size 224×224.Furthermore,fish behavior images are collected in a land-based factory,and a dataset is constructed and extended through flip,rotation,and color jitter augmentation techniques.The proposed method is also compared with other state-of-the-art methods.The experimental results show that the proposed model is more suitable for deployment on resource-constrained devices or real-time applications,and it is conducive for real-time monitoring of fish behavior. 展开更多

W型潜坝作为一种新型的堰坝结构,不仅具有消能、护岸、分流和改善通航条件等功能,而且具有显著的生态功能。选取鲫鱼幼鱼为目标鱼类,研究不同粒径组成的W型潜坝的河流流速分布及对目标鱼类聚集的影响,探明W型潜坝的生境改良效果,为裁弯河段生态涵养区建设提供依据。研究结果表明不同粒径的W型潜坝作用下,[10,20]mm较大粒径组成的W型潜坝透水性更好,流速梯度小于小粒径组,流态多样性高。在流量0.09 m 3/s条件下,[10,20]mm粒径组成的W型潜坝鱼类聚集区域停留最多达到85次;[10,20]mm较大粒径组成的W型潜坝生境多样性高,可以为试验鱼提供更好的栖息和庇护场所。因此,在人工运河修建中裁弯河段生态涵养区建议选透水效果较好的大粒径潜坝方案。流态多样性指数与鱼类平均聚集度存在线性关系,可作为评价栖息地质量的依据,研究成果为河流生境异质性研究和生态优化设计提供理论支撑。 展开更多

深海养殖网箱提升过程中大黄鱼行为特性研究

在深远海养殖网箱提升过程中,水深骤变引发的水压减小可能对闭鳔鱼类造成严重应激甚至死亡,已成为制约养殖效益提升的关键瓶颈。以大黄鱼(Larimichthys crocea)为对象,构建实验室内气压模拟系统,模拟网箱从20 m水深(200 kPa)上浮至水面... 在深远海养殖网箱提升过程中,水深骤变引发的水压减小可能对闭鳔鱼类造成严重应激甚至死亡,已成为制约养殖效益提升的关键瓶颈。以大黄鱼(Larimichthys crocea)为对象,构建实验室内气压模拟系统,模拟网箱从20 m水深(200 kPa)上浮至水面的全过程压力变化,开展匀速减压与梯度减压两类试验,系统评估不同减压速率和暂停策略对鱼体行为、生理响应及存活率的影响。试验全程录像,结合图像处理提取瞬时游泳速度、探头频率、尾动频率等行为指标,量化应激状态与恢复过程。结果显示:匀速减压组中,10 kPa/min速率下大黄鱼行为最稳定,平均游泳速度为0.028 m/s,探头频率为18次/min,尾动频率为1.608次/s;梯度减压组中,减压至50 kPa暂停5 min能有效缓冲压力变化,游泳速度由0.085降至0.037 m/s,探头频率由31.106降至1次/min,尾动频率由1.562降至0.521次/s,应激恢复效果最佳;在匀速与梯度试验中,只有50 kPa暂停组超半数个体在暂停阶段出现恢复性行为反应,其他处理组无类似表现。研究表明,相比于匀速减压,在50 kPa设置短暂停留的策略可进一步优化平衡鱼体健康,为深远海养殖中减压操作参数的设定提供了基础理论依据与实践参考。 展开更多

Globally,fish are frequently introduced beyond their native range.Some,like Ponto-Caspian gobies,are becoming invasive,achieving high colo-nization rates and constituting frequent prey for native predators.However,little is known about the effectiveness of antipredator behaviors of the invaders,which may shape their role in the invaded community and contribute to the invasion success.We compared antipredator behaviors of invasive gobies and native fish species after their detection by the predator,when the danger becomes direct.We studied 2 fish pairs,each consisting of an invasive and native species co-occurring in the environment and belonging to the same prey guild:(1)the racer goby Babka gymnotrachelus versus European bulhead Cottus gobio,(2)the monkey goby Neogobius fluviatilis versus gudgeon Gobio gobio,facing a naive predator(the Eurasian perch Perca fluviatilis).We analyzed behaviors of single prey individuals(escaping,staying in shelter,and activity)and sin-gle predators(activity,searching,following,capturing,and latency to prey consumption).In the predator presence,the bullhead was less active and more often managed to escape after capture than the racer goby.The gudgeon escaped before the capture more often than the monkey goby.The predator succeeded later with the bullhead compared to racer goby,whereas no differences in ingestion time occurred between the gudgeon and monkey goby.The results suggest that,in terms of hunting effort of native predators,the invasive gobies are equivalent to or more profitable prey than their native analogs,which can facilitate the integration of the gobies into local food webs. 展开更多

为建立鳙(Aristichthys nobilis)幼鱼的声学行为控制技术,本研究系统评估了鳙幼鱼的听觉能力。利用鱼类听觉诱发电位(Auditory Evoked Potential,AEP)技术测定了3组不同体长[小:(7.9±0.4)cm;中:(10.9±0.8)cm;大:(14.2±0.... 为建立鳙(Aristichthys nobilis)幼鱼的声学行为控制技术,本研究系统评估了鳙幼鱼的听觉能力。利用鱼类听觉诱发电位(Auditory Evoked Potential,AEP)技术测定了3组不同体长[小:(7.9±0.4)cm;中:(10.9±0.8)cm;大:(14.2±0.7)cm]的鳙幼鱼在不同频率声音刺激下的脑电反应,确定了其听觉阈值和听觉发育规律。结果表明:鳙幼鱼的听觉阈值曲线呈非对称的“V”形,对200—400 Hz的低频声音较为敏感,其中最敏感的频率为400 Hz,平均听觉阈值为(93.0±3.0)dB;在不同体长组之间,鳙幼鱼听觉能力在100、400和1000 Hz三个频率下存在显著差异,而其余频率则未观察到显著差异;在最敏感的400 Hz频率下,大体长组的平均听觉阈值比小体长组显著降低了5 dB(P<0.05),表明了鳙幼鱼听觉能力随个体生长或发育呈增强趋势。本文的发现不仅为建立基于尺寸选择性的声学行为控制技术提供了关键生理学参数,也为鳙的渔业管理和生态保护提供了科学依据。 展开更多

In order to develop a sound biotechnique for monitoring water quality that builds on the previous experiments carried out in our laboratory, a specific D. magna clone C 1242 was used to study the effects of pollutants on phototactic behavior. In all experiments, the animals showed a stable and repeatable phototactic index approximated 0.2 in the presence and 0.4 in the absence of fish kairomones, which decreased significantly in response to pollutants. There existed no pollutant×fish kairomone interaction, indicating the changes in phototactic behavior of animals imposed by pollutants were independent of the presence of fish kairomones. The detection limits for changes in phototactic behavior of D. magna clone C 1242 are 0.04 mg/L for copper, 0.02 mg/L for cadmium, and 0.80 mg/L for PCP, respectively, quite lower than LC 50(48 h). The changes in phototactic behavior in presence to pollutants occurred quickly(3 h) compared to the period over whole acute toxicity tests. Therefore, D. magna clone C 1242 could be potentially used to monitor water quality. Moreover, the phototactic behavior did not decrease further in the pollutant mixtures employed in our experiments compared to individual pollutants, except in the Cd-PCP treatment. 过鱼设施作为恢复鱼类洄游通道的重要生态补偿措施,已广泛应用于水生态保护,然而其过鱼效果尚未达到预期。诱驱鱼技术是提升过鱼设施过鱼效果的关键手段之一。结合近十年的室内与野外实验研究,文章系统阐述了水流、声、光、电、气泡幕... 过鱼设施作为恢复鱼类洄游通道的重要生态补偿措施,已广泛应用于水生态保护,然而其过鱼效果尚未达到预期。诱驱鱼技术是提升过鱼设施过鱼效果的关键手段之一。结合近十年的室内与野外实验研究,文章系统阐述了水流、声、光、电、气泡幕及生物因子等对鱼类行为的影响机制及诱驱理论,总结了诱驱鱼技术在过鱼设施中的应用优势与不足,得出结论:(1)鱼类对诱驱鱼因素的行为响应研究逐渐深入,由二维平面发展到三维空间(如由流速到流场、由声强到声场等);(2)诱驱鱼因素对不同鱼类的诱驱效果呈现种属共性和特异性,且不同大小鱼类对诱驱鱼因素也存在行为响应差异;(3)诱驱鱼技术研究对象逐渐由海洋鱼类转向淡水经济鱼类和保护鱼种,研究方法趋向于考虑多因子交互作用对鱼类行为的影响;(4)诱驱鱼技术的效果受多种因素交互影响,包括物种差异、工程布置适应性、运行管理等。未来研究应进一步解析多因子交互作用下的鱼类行为响应机制,优化适应不同过鱼设施运行条件的诱驱鱼设计,推动水生态保护的发展。 展开更多

鱼类行为与水力因子之间的关系是鱼道结构优化的关键。为了探索鱼类行为与水力因子之间的关系,该研究基于欧拉-拉格朗日智能体方法(eulerian-lagrangian-agent method,ELAM),提出兼顾多种水力因子和鱼类变速游动的鱼类上溯行为预测模型... 鱼类行为与水力因子之间的关系是鱼道结构优化的关键。为了探索鱼类行为与水力因子之间的关系,该研究基于欧拉-拉格朗日智能体方法(eulerian-lagrangian-agent method,ELAM),提出兼顾多种水力因子和鱼类变速游动的鱼类上溯行为预测模型。首先,采用主成分分析方法计算流速、湍动能、涡量和应变率对短须裂腹鱼上溯行为的影响;然后,基于鱼类运动特点构建包含上溯、避障、惯性和随机行为的行为模型;并通过水流速度与鱼类游泳速度的响应关系构建鱼类可变游泳速度模型;最后,利用所提模型在竖缝式鱼道内模拟鱼类上溯轨迹,并对涡量、应变率、湍动能和流速对鱼类上溯行为的影响进行分析。结果表明:模拟特征轨迹与实测特征轨迹误差较小,R^(2)为0.935,模型预测精度较高;涡量在鱼类上溯过程中有关键作用,是确保鱼类上溯方向的关键水力因子。所提上溯鱼类行为预测模型可为鱼道设计和优化提供参考。 展开更多

【目的】我国低水头闸坝过鱼需求巨大,在不施工的条件下迫切需要修建低成本便携式鱼道。【方法】鉴于此,本研究自主设计了一种管式鱼道辅助鱼类过坝,分析了在3种角度、2种流量工况下鲢通过管式鱼道的过鱼效果,获取了管式鱼道过鱼效果的... 【目的】我国低水头闸坝过鱼需求巨大,在不施工的条件下迫切需要修建低成本便携式鱼道。【方法】鉴于此,本研究自主设计了一种管式鱼道辅助鱼类过坝,分析了在3种角度、2种流量工况下鲢通过管式鱼道的过鱼效果,获取了管式鱼道过鱼效果的评价指标,构建了基于尝试率、通过率和最大上溯距离的风险比例回归模型,识别了影响管式鱼道过鱼效果的关键因素。【结果】①最优尝试率模型发现,流量是影响鲢尝试进入鱼道的关键因素;流量与管式鱼道中鲢的上溯尝试率呈显著负相关。②管式鱼道通过率最高可达90.5%,通过最优通过率模型发现,管道角度、水温和尝试次数是影响鲢通过鱼道的关键因素;管道角度为90°时通过率最低;尝试次数和鲢的上溯通过率呈显著负相关;上溯通过率在管道角度为30°和45°工况下无显著差异,但均显著高于90°。③最优最大上溯距离模型发现,水温和管道角度是影响鲢可通过最大上溯距离概率的关键因素;水温与鲢可通过的最大上溯距离概率呈显著正相关;鲢可通过的最大上溯距离概率在管道角度为30°和45°工况下无显著差异,但均显著高于90°。【结论】45°管道角度工况鱼类上溯效果最好,管道角度、水温和尝试次数是影响管式鱼道过鱼效果的关键因素。本研究旨在揭示我国特有鱼种在管式鱼道中的上溯行为规律及评估其过鱼效果,为我国野外低水头闸坝鱼道设计提供新思路和新方案。 展开更多
