Trans-reflective color filters with brilliant colors by integrating organic dyes with photonic crystals

Color filters are essential components for optical modulation.However,conventional filters are restricted to operating exclusively in either reflective or transmissive mode.Furthermore,they suffer from limited UV and thermal stability,low color purity,and exhibit identical coloration on both surfaces.Herein,we propose a novel design strategy for trans-reflective color filters by integrating the absorptive properties of dye-doped polysulfone(PSU)with the diffractive capabilities of photonic crystals.This composite filter achieved broad-spectrum transmission with deep color outputs—yellow(0.410,0.510),magenta(0.446,0.231),and cyan(0.201,0.425)—closely aligned with standard color space coordinates.By tuning the refractive index of CeO_(2)@SiO_(2)nanoparticles to match dye-based PSU matrix,the transmittance of filters exceeded 70%.Moreover,dye-mediated absorption reduces the scattering light,thereby enhancing reflection color purity(full width at half maxima(FWHM)=25 nm)and producing vibrant blue,green,and red hues.The incorporation of UV-absorbing CeO_(2)@SiO_(2)nanoparticles effectively mitigated dye photodegradation,yielding exceptional UV stability(ΔT<2%under prolonged UV exposure).The filters also exhibited outstanding thermal stability(ΔT<1%after 30 min heat treatment at 230°C).This work establishes a robust materials design framework for multifunctional optical filters,advancing the development of highfidelity dual-mode color systems for next-generation display technologies. 展开更多

This study systematically investigated the influence of deposition rate on the structure,broadband opti⁃cal properties(1.0-13.0μm),and stress characteristics of Germanium(Ge)films.Additionally,a method for enhancing the performance of infrared filters based on rate-modulated deposition of Ge films was proposed.The optical absorption of Ge films in the short-wave infrared(SWIR)and long-wave infrared(LWIR)bands can be effectively reduced by modulating the deposition rate.As the deposition rate increases,the Ge films maintain an amorphous structure.The optical constants of the films in the 1.0-2.5μm and 2.5-13.0μm bands were precisely determined using the Cody-Lorentz model and the classical Lorentz oscillator model,respectively.Notably,high⁃er deposition rates result in a gradual increase in the refractive index.The extinction coefficient increases with the deposition rate in the SWIR region,attributed to the widening of the Urbach tail,while it decreases in the LWIR region due to the reduced absorption caused by the Ge-O stretching mode.Additionally,the films exhibit a tensile stress that decreases with increasing deposition rate.Finally,the effectiveness of the proposed fabrication method for an infrared filter with Ge films deposited at an optimized rate was demonstrated through practical examples.This work provides theoretical and technical support for the application of Ge films in high-performance infrared filters. 展开更多

This article proposes a generalized strongly coupled resonator quartet(GSCRQ)filter along with its synthesis approach.By introducing out-of-band reflection zeros(RZs),the proposed GSCRQ can generate a transmission zero on each side of the passband without negative couplings.The coupling coefficients in this coupling structure change with the positions of the out-of-band RZs.Thus,the GSCRQ configuration admits flexible design solutions.For GSCRQ coaxial combline filters,all couplings can be implemented as inductive couplings,simplifying the design and manufacturing process.In this article,a 6-2 filter in the GSCRQ configuration is synthesized and designed.The simulated results of the designed filter agree very well with the theoretical characteristics. 展开更多

Faulty-feeder detection in neutral point noneffectively grounded distribution networks consistently attracts research attention since it directly affects quality and safety of energy supply.Most modern research on faulty-feeder detection tends to apply more complex digital signal processing techniques and deeper neural networks in order to better extract and learn as many detailed characteristics as possible.However,these approaches may easily result in overfitting and high computational cost,which cannot meet requirements for detection accuracy and efficiency in practical applications.This paper proposes an innovative waveform encoding method and details a simple convolutional neural network(CNN)with one layer of convolution used for identification,which seeks to improve detection accuracy and efficiency simultaneously.First,sparse characteristics of waveforms are utilized to encode into compact vectors,and a waveform-vector matrix is generated.Second,to deduce waveform-vector matrix,a simple CNN with multi-scale filters and one layer of convolution is established.Finally,a methodology for faulty-feeder detection is proposed,and both detection accuracy and efficiency are considerably enhanced.Comparative studies have confirmed clear superiority of the developed method,which outperforms existing approaches in both detection accuracy and efficiency,thus highlighting its significant potential for application. 展开更多

Semitransparent organic solar cells(ST-OSCs)are promising for building-integrated photovoltaics,offering power generation,transparency and heat insulation.High performance ST-OSCs need sophisticated optical management to balance the competing demands of power conversion efficiency(PCE)and average visible transmittance(AVT)for various applications.Here,a type of aperiodic band-pass filter(ABPF)made from LiF and ZnS are developed to selectively alter visible light transmission and near-infrared(NIR)reflection.This ABPF allows the active layers of ST-OSCs to re-harvest unabsorbed NIR photons,compensating for the loss of photocurrent caused by the high AVT of ST-OSCs.By carefully adjusting the thicknesses of individual layers within ABPFs,we can modulate their photonic bandgaps,enabling ST-OSCs to achieve multifunctional performance.ST-OSCs combined with the ABPF-1 demonstrate a remarkable light utilization efficiency(LUE)of 5.40%,a PCE of 14.21%and an AVT of 38.0%,which represent some of the highest values reported for ST-OSCs.Moreover,the ST-OSCs are equipped with excellent color neutrality and heat insulation functions.The ST-OSCs employing ABPF-2 exhibit a LUE of 4.78%,a color rendering index of 87.5 and an infrared rejection rate of 91.6%.This work offers an effective method for employing ABPFs in the creation of high-performance multifunctional ST-OSCs. 展开更多

This study presents the design of an erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL) featuring switchable wavelength intervals achieved through the implementation of cascaded and parallel Lyot filters. The proposed laser system utilizes a cascaded and parallel configuration of three Lyot filters, facilitated by a polarization beam splitter(PBS) for branch switching. The transmission properties of the filter are analyzed through theoretical modeling and experimental validation using the transmission matrix method. The experimental results are found to be consistent with the theoretical predictions, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed design. By adjusting the polarization controllers(PCs), the proposed laser can switch between wavelength spacings of 0.46 nm, 0.27 nm, and 0.76 nm, with a maximum optical signal-to-noise ratio(OSNR) of 38 d B. However, the stability of the laser with a 0.27 nm spacing is not high due to wavelength competition. Power fluctuation for 0.46 nm and 0.76 nm intervals is less than 0.93 d B and 0.78 d B in 1 h, with wavelength fluctuation less than 0.068 nm and 0.19 nm, respectively. This EDFL has the advantages of simple structure, great flexibility, and switchability, which can be applied to fiber optic sensing, wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) networks, and other fields that require a very flexible light source. 展开更多

In the last 30 years a variety of protective agents against UV exposure have been developed: physical filters, chemical filters and organic filters. Physical filters are the safest: they scatter and reflect UV rays, but are difficult to apply on the skin. Chemical filters are capable of absorbing these rays, they are cosmetically pleasant, but recent studies suggest a toxicological nature for some of these agents. Organic filters are the newest advance in sun products. Since 2003 the COLIPA Index [Europe] has regulated sun product availability on the market. In the USA, the FDA establishes the classification and the safety of sun products, which are considered topical medical drugs. This article summarizes the dermatologist's point of view, according to the patient's request, professional ethics and increasing offer of sun product. 展开更多

Two problems were solved: firstly, because the GPS real-time deformation series with a high sampling rate contain coloured noise, the multiple Kalman filter model requires the white noise, and the multiple Kalman filters model is augmented by a shaping filter in order to reduce the colored noise; secondly, the multiple Kalman filters model with shaping filter can detect the deformation epoch in real-time and improve the quality of GPS measurements for the real-time deformation applications. Based on the comparisons of the applications in different GPS time series with different models, the advantages of the proposed model were illustrated. The proposed model can reduce the colored noise, detect the smaller changes, and improve the precision of the detected deformation epoch. 展开更多

Principles and performances of quantum stochastic filters are studied for nonlinear time-domain filtering of communication signals. Filtering is realized by combining neural networks with the nonlinear Schroedinger equation and the time-variant probability density function of signals is estimated by solution of the equation. It is shown that obviously different performances can be achieved by the control of weight coefficients of potential fields. Based on this characteristic, a novel filtering algorithm is proposed, and utilizing this algorithm, the nonlinear waveform distortion of output signals and the denoising capability of the filters can be compromised. This will make the application of quantum stochastic filters be greatly extended, such as in applying the filters to the processing of communication signals. The predominant performance of quantum stochastic filters is shown by simulation results. 展开更多

High-selectivity common-mode(CM)and differential-mode(DM)reflectionless balanced bandpass filters(BBPFs)are proposed in this article.By loading absorption networks at single/both ends of the basic ring resonator,input-/two-port wideband CM and DM reflectionless performance,wideband filtering performance and all-stop CM suppression are obtained.The absorption network composed of K-sections of coupled-lines(CLs)terminated with grounded resistors can not only extend the filtering performance to high order,but also realize wideband absorption of CM noise and out-of-band DM signals.Absorptive stubs are loaded at ports to increase the design flexibility and enhance the absorption.As for the input-reflectionless type,multiple independently controlled transmission zeros(TZs)are obtained by the TZ control network to improves the selectivity and out-of-band rejection.A set of 2 GHz micro-strip BBPFs are designed and measured,which shows simultaneous CM and DM absorption performance. 展开更多

Filtration efficiency and purification mechanism of MgO-based ceramic filters on molten steel

Pure magnesia filter and periclase-spinel filter were prepared using porous MgO powder and Al2O3 micro-powder as raw materials.The filtration efficiency and purification mechanism of the two sets of filters on molten steel were investigated through steel casting tests.The results show that on the basis of surviving the thermal shock of molten steel,both filters can significantly reduce the number of non-metallic inclusions and total oxygen content of steel,thereby improving the cleanliness of the molten steel.After the thermal shock of molten steel,cracks were found in the microstructure of pure magnesia filter.Via the diffusion of non-metallic inclusions from steel into MgO grains of the filter to form solid solution,the inclusions were adsorbed to the internal and external surfaces of the pure magnesia filter.The number of inclusions was reduced by 62.5%,and the total oxygen content decreased from 0.892 to 0.265 wt.%after filtration,achieving a filtration efficiency of 70.3%.Compared with the pure magnesia filter,no cracks were found in the microstructure of the periclase-spinel filter.The mass transfer rate was accelerated due to the diffusion of inclusions from steel into MgO and MgAl2O4 grains of the filter,as well as the higher high-temperature liquid content and smaller pore structure of the filter.More non-metallic inclusions were able to enter the interior of the filter,which made the periclase-spinel filter more capable of adsorbing inclusions from steel and reducing total oxygen content.The periclase-spinel filter reduced the number of inclusions in steel by 84.4%and decreased the total oxygen content of the steel from 0.892 to 0.119 wt.%,with a filtration efficiency of 86.7%,demonstrating excellent comprehensive performance. 展开更多

In-loop filters have been comprehensively explored during the development of video coding standards due to their remarkable noise-reduction capabilities.In the early stage of video coding,in-loop filters,such as the deblocking filter,sample adaptive offset,and adaptive loop filter,were performed separately for each component.Recently,cross-component filters have been studied to improve chroma fidelity by exploiting correlations between the luma and chroma channels.This paper introduces the cross-component filters used in the state-ofthe-art video coding standards,including the cross-component adaptive loop filter and cross-component sample adaptive offset.Crosscomponent filters aim to reduce compression artifacts based on the correlation between different components and provide more accurate pixel reconstruction values.We present their origin,development,and status in the current video coding standards.Finally,we conduct discussions on the further evolution of cross-component filters. 展开更多

In this paper,the newly-derived maximum correntropy Kalman filter(MCKF)is re-derived from the M-estimation perspective,where the MCKF can be viewed as a special case of the M-estimations and the Gaussian kernel function is a special case of many robust cost functions.Based on the derivation process,a unified form for the robust Gaussian filters(RGF)based on M-estimation is proposed to suppress the outliers and non-Gaussian noise in the measurement.The RGF provides a unified form for one Gaussian filter with different cost functions and a unified form for one robust filter with different approximating methods for the involved Gaussian integrals.Simulation results show that RGF with different weighting functions and different Gaussian integral approximation methods has robust antijamming performance. 展开更多

In digital signal processing,image enhancement or image denoising are challenging task to preserve pixel quality.There are several approaches from conventional to deep learning that are used to resolve such issues.But they still face challenges in terms of computational requirements,overfitting and generalization issues,etc.To resolve such issues,optimization algorithms provide greater control and transparency in designing digital filters for image enhancement and denoising.Therefore,this paper presented a novel denoising approach for medical applications using an Optimized Learning⁃based Multi⁃level discrete Wavelet Cascaded Convolutional Neural Network(OLMWCNN).In this approach,the optimal filter parameters are identified to preserve the image quality after denoising.The performance and efficiency of the OLMWCNN filter are evaluated,demonstrating significant progress in denoising medical images while overcoming the limitations of conventional methods. 展开更多

The traditional forward design process of metasurface optical filters is computationally costly and time-consuming;therefore,inverse design based on deep learning(DL)can help accelerate the process.We propose the globaland local-spectrum-aware transformer(GLSaT),a DL model that concerns the intrinsic correlations within the spectral sequences,compensating the drawbacks of current networks that only focus on structure-to-spectrum mappings.With both interand intra-fragment attention mechanisms implemented,the GLSaT achieves 32.9%higher accuracy than fully connected networks in our reflection tests.It also demonstrates an inherent balance between predictive precision and computational efficiency,outperforming alternative architectures.Furthermore,our extensive experimental validations demonstrate its generalization capability across diverse metasurface functionalities.The GLSaT architecture shows great potential for enhancing the efficiency of data-driven metasurface inverse design in the future. 展开更多

Imaging detector arrays have been widely used in terahertz(THz)astronomical observations,where optical filters play an important role.In this work,a 5-THz metal-mesh bandpass filter(MMBF)using cross-slot-shaped resonators is developed and fabricated on Mylar film through photolithography.Extensive simulations,accounting for factors such as Mylar film loss,surface conductivity,corner errors,and surface roughness,were conducted to assess their impact on the filter’s performance.The measured characteristics,including a center frequency of 5.06 THz,a transmittance of 62%,and a 3-dB fractional bandwidth(FBW)is 38%,obtained via Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),closely match the simulation results.This scalable metal-mesh filter shows promise for future THz astronomical applications. 展开更多

Structure-performance relationship between denitration performance and catalytic interface morphologies of MnCeO_(x)/P84 catalytic filters

MnCeO_(x)/P84 catalytic filters with spherical,flower-like,cubic and rod-like catalytic interfaces were synthesized respectively,and their catalytic activities in the NH_(3)-SCR reaction were investigated.The MnCeO_(x)/P84 catalytic filter with spherical catalytic interfaces(recorded as S-MnCeO_(x)/P84)exhibits the best catalytic denitration performance.The NO_(x)removal efficiency of S-MnCeO_(x)/P84 reaches the highest value of 98.6%at 160℃when the catalyst loading is 100 g/m^(2).At the same time,S-MnCeO_(x)/P84 exhibits good SO_(2)resistance and stability,achieving a NO_(x)removal rate of 83%at 190℃with 30 ppm SO_(2).The characterization results illustrate that the MnCeO_x active component in S-MnCeO_(x)/P84 is present in weak crystalline states,tightly wrapped around the surface of the filter fiber,and uniformly dispersed,and the mesopore is the main pore structure of the S-MnCeO_(x)/P84,which can provide a channel for the catalytic reaction to proceed.At the same time,transmission electron microscopy(TEM)characterization shows that y-MnO_(2)is the main form of MnO_(2)in the S-MnCeO_(x)/P84.Further analysis of H_(2)temperature programmed reduction(H_(2)-TPR).NH_(3)temperature programmed desorption(NH_(3)-TPD)and in-situ diffuse reflectance infrared spectra(DRIFTS)show that S-MnCeO_(x)/P84 has good redox ability at 100-200℃and has abundant Lewis acid sites and Bronsteds acid sites,which provides an important guarantee for its superior low-temperature NH_(3)-SCR denitration performance. 展开更多

Jamming suppression is traditionally achieved through the use of spatial filters based on array signal processing theory.In order to achieve better jamming suppression performance,many studies have applied blind source separation(BSS)to jamming suppression.BSS can achieve the separation and extraction of the individual source signals from the mixed signal received by the array.This paper proposes a perspective to recognize BSS as spatial band-pass filters(SBPFs)for jamming suppression applications.The theoretical derivation indicates that the processing of mixed signals by BSS can be perceived as the application of a set of SBPFs that gate the source signals at various angles.Simulations are performed using radar jamming suppression as an example.The simulation results suggest that BSS and SBPFs produce approximately the same effects.Simulation results are consistent with theoretical derivation results. 展开更多
