Climate change and its resulting effects on seasonality are known to alter a variety of animal behaviors including those related to foraging,phenology,and migration.Although many studies focus on the impacts of phenol...Climate change and its resulting effects on seasonality are known to alter a variety of animal behaviors including those related to foraging,phenology,and migration.Although many studies focus on the impacts of phenological changes on physiology or ftness enhancing behaviors,fewer have investigated the relationship between variation in weather and phenology on risk assessment.Fleeing from predators is an economic decision that incurs costs and benefts.As environmental conditions change,animals may face additional stressors that affect their decision to fee and infuence their ability to effectively assess risk.Flight initiation distance(FID)—the distance at which animals move away from threats—is often used to study risk assessment.FID varies due to both internal and external biotic and physical factors as well as anthropogenic activities.We asked whether variation in weather and phenology is associated with risk-taking in a population of yellow-bellied marmots(Marmota faviventer).As the air temperature increased marmots tolerated closer approaches,suggesting that they either perceived less risk or that their response to a threat was thermally compromised.The effect of temperature was relatively small and was largely dependent upon having a larger range in the full data set that permitted us to detect it.We found no effects of either the date that snow disappeared or July precipitation on marmot FID.As global temperatures continue to rise,rainfall varies more and drought becomes more common,understanding climate-related changes in how animals assess risk should be used to inform population viability models.展开更多

Double position calculation is adopted in this method, and by alignment at two sites the azimuth angle can be figured out. Also the orientation and the horizontal shifts of the gyro are simultaneously measured and compensated so as to improve the accuracy of north seeking. The system can automatically seek north when the vehicle is immobile. And the time consumption is no more than 5.5 min. The research approach used was interpretive approach to qualitative-descriptive methods. Interpretive method emphasizes culture from the perspective of social construction theory (Papa, Danicls, & Spiker, 2008). Data collection (Mann & Stewart, 2000) conducted through site analysis of the People Justice's Party (Parti Kcadilan Rakyat) Malaysia website from January 16 to March 31 2010. The findings of this study arc the website is an effective means to disseminate political party's program. Although, the virtual public or party members were preferring a direct face-to-face interpersonal communication. The People Justice's Party, Malaysia has 14 MPN (Majclis Pimpinan Negeri/Rcgional Board) in the state-level. Regarding the political atmosphere in Malaysia, the wcbsite was an efficient tool. The costs required were very cheap. Second, the presence of party website opened a space for providing political education to more people. The effects of rare earth(RE)on the structure,acidity,and catalytic performance of HZSM-5 zeolite were investigated.A series of RE/HZSM-5 catalysts,containing 7.54% RE(RE=La,Ce,Pr,Nd,Sm,Eu or Gd),were prepared by ...The effects of rare earth(RE)on the structure,acidity,and catalytic performance of HZSM-5 zeolite were investigated.A series of RE/HZSM-5 catalysts,containing 7.54% RE(RE=La,Ce,Pr,Nd,Sm,Eu or Gd),were prepared by the impregnation of the ZSM-5 type zeolites(Si/Al=64:1)with the corresponding RE nitrate aqueous solutions.The catalysts were characterized by means of FT-IR,UV-Vis,NH3-TPD,and IR spectroscopy of adsorbed pyridine.The catalytic performances of the RE/HZSM-5 for the catalytic cracking of mixed butane to light olefins were also measured with a fixed bed microreactor.The results revealed that the addition of light rare earth metal on the HZSM-5 catalyst greatly enhanced the selectivity to olefins,especially to propylene,thus increasing the total yield of olefins in the catalytic cracking of butane.Among the RE-modified HZSM-5 samples,Ce/HZSM-5 gave the highest yield of total olefins,and Nd/HZSM-5 gave the highest yield of propene at a reaction temperature of 600℃.The presence of rare earth metal on the HZSM-5 sample,not only modified the acidic properties of HZSM-5 including the amount of acid sites and acid type,that is,the ratio of L/B(Lewis acid/Brnsted acid),but also altered the basic properties of it,which in turn promoted the catalytic performance of HZSM-5 for the catalytic cracking of butane.展开更多

The as-obtained fluorinated cationic surfactants exhibited excellent surface properties, all of them can reduce the surface tension of water to below 20.00mN/m at the critical micelle concentrations (CMC). The incorporation of SDS, AOS, APG or LAB into 2-(4-(3,3,4,4,5,5,5-heptafluoro- 2,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)pentyl)benzamido)-N,N-dimethylethana-mine oxide 4a could generate much lower CMC and surface tension value at the CMC than individual 4a. Especially, the surface tension values of that combined APG/4a can be reduced to 17.31 mN/m. The excellent surface activities and their remarkable compatibility to various types of hydrocarbon surfactants make them as sustainable alternatives to PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid, C7F15CO2H) and PFOS (perfluorooctane sulphonate, C8F17SO3X, with X = K, Na, H).展开更多
