Climate change and its resulting effects on seasonality are known to alter a variety of animal behaviors including those related to foraging,phenology,and migration.Although many studies focus on the impacts of phenol...Climate change and its resulting effects on seasonality are known to alter a variety of animal behaviors including those related to foraging,phenology,and migration.Although many studies focus on the impacts of phenological changes on physiology or ftness enhancing behaviors,fewer have investigated the relationship between variation in weather and phenology on risk assessment.Fleeing from predators is an economic decision that incurs costs and benefts.As environmental conditions change,animals may face additional stressors that affect their decision to fee and infuence their ability to effectively assess risk.Flight initiation distance(FID)—the distance at which animals move away from threats—is often used to study risk assessment.FID varies due to both internal and external biotic and physical factors as well as anthropogenic activities.We asked whether variation in weather and phenology is associated with risk-taking in a population of yellow-bellied marmots(Marmota faviventer).As the air temperature increased marmots tolerated closer approaches,suggesting that they either perceived less risk or that their response to a threat was thermally compromised.The effect of temperature was relatively small and was largely dependent upon having a larger range in the full data set that permitted us to detect it.We found no effects of either the date that snow disappeared or July precipitation on marmot FID.As global temperatures continue to rise,rainfall varies more and drought becomes more common,understanding climate-related changes in how animals assess risk should be used to inform population viability models.展开更多

To address the influence of the high-altitude low Reynolds number effect on compressors,this study investigates an axial transonic compressor through a numerical approach based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes e...To address the influence of the high-altitude low Reynolds number effect on compressors,this study investigates an axial transonic compressor through a numerical approach based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations.The entropy generation loss model and theγ-Reθttransition model are employed to analyze variations in compressor performance,flow field behavior,and flow loss under different flight altitudes.The results show that the increased flight altitude will induce a low Reynolds number effect,reducing the total pressure ratio,isentropic efficiency,peak efficiency,and compressor stall margin.Under peak efficiency conditions,the flow deflection in the rotor passage experiences a rapid decrease at altitudes above 20 km.Additionally,the separation line on the rotor suction surface and the location of the passage shock wave shift forward,leading to an expansion of the low-energy fluid range and a widening of the wake.The separation of the stator suction surface develops from a closed separation bubble at the leading edge to an open significant separation at the trailing edge.The pressure coefficient of the stator and rotor blades at the trailing edge shows a downward trend.Entropy generation increases in the spanwise and axial directions,with losses near the end walls dominating.The high-altitude low Reynolds number effect leads to a general decline in the performance of the transonic compressor and alters the flow field.展开更多

Flight is a key feature of the reproduction and dispersal of emerging aquatic insects.However,morphological measurements of insect fight are mostly available for terrestrial taxa and dragonfies,while aquatic insects h...Flight is a key feature of the reproduction and dispersal of emerging aquatic insects.However,morphological measurements of insect fight are mostly available for terrestrial taxa and dragonfies,while aquatic insects have been poorly investigated.We analyzed 7 fight-related morphological parameters of 32 taxa belonging to 5 orders of emerging aquatic insects(Ephemeroptera,Trichoptera,Plecoptera,Diptera,and Megaloptera)with different life history traits related to fight(dispersal strategy,voltinism,adult lifespan,and swarming behavior).After correcting for allometry,we used an a priori-free approach to cluster the individuals according to their fight-related morphology.Then,we explored the levels of agreement between these clusters,taxonomy,and several life history traits of the taxa.All orders were scattered among several clusters,suggesting a large range of fight capacities,particularly for Diptera.We found swarming taxa in each cluster,showing that morphological adaptations to swarming are not identical in all aquatic insects.The clusters did not match the expected dispersal capacity of the taxa as derived from the literature or databases.Heavy wide-winged insects notably gathered taxa traditionally described as good or weak dispersers.Flight capacities based on morphology partly matched with the taxonomy and life-history traits of aquatic insect imagoes.Other parameters such as fight propensity,energy stores,and wing kinematics should help refne their fying and dispersal capacity.展开更多

Double position calculation is adopted in this method, and by alignment at two sites the azimuth angle can be figured out. Also the orientation and the horizontal shifts of the gyro are simultaneously measured and compensated so as to improve the accuracy of north seeking. The system can automatically seek north when the vehicle is immobile. And the time consumption is no more than 5.5 min.
