Methods: The study included 40 long-term hospitalized elderly patients with dysphagia who needed oral intake, According to the voluntary and matching principle, participants were divided into the intervention group (n =20) and control group (n = 20). We formed a multi-disciplinary team including clinical nurses, rehabilitation therapists and nutritionists. Clinical nurses collaborated with nutritionists and rehabilitation therapists to carry out feeding management. The patients in the control group were fed with semi-solid food, thick liquid, a partial mushy diet and so on according to their swallowing situations and tastes or preferences. The patients in the intervention group were fed with an all mushy diet. Patients in both groups were able to eat foods on their own or with assistance. Results: After a three-month intervention, the incidence of aspiration pneumonia in both groups was decreased, and the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.05). In the control group, seven patients had aspiration pneumonia, including two cases who died after nasogastric feeding due to aggravated dysphagia. In the control group, seven patients had aspiration pneumonia, including two cases was given nasogastric feeding due to aggravated dysphagia and then one case died. In the intervention group, four patients had aspiration pneumonia. There was no dropouts in either group. Conclusions: Elderly patients with dysphagia require a multidisciplinary team to work closely with them to carry out feeding management. Nurses should conduct safety guidance for care catering and encouraging patients to actively eat a mushy diet. The diet can reduce the incidence of aspiration pneumonia, maintain oral intake and improve the quality of life.展开更多

Due to the natural conditions in Taihu and human domestication, Hu Sheep is gradually featured with high adaptability, fast growth rate, early maturity and high productivity, which make them to be a unique and rare breed of sheep. In the present study, an experiment was conducted by means of instantaneous scan sampling, focal animal sampling and all-occurrence sampling to learn about Hu Sheep's behavior and activity pattern under certain feeding management and ecological condition. The result showed that the activity time budgets for several behaviors were different between rams and ewes, with respect to feeding (rams 30.60% vs. ewes 33.23%), ruminating (33.43% vs.35.30%); sleeping (19.92% vs. 13.69%), standing (4.13% vs. 5.26%), moving (8.10% vs. 7.46%), and other behaviors (3.86% vs.5.06%). A circadian activity rhythm was shown in some behaviors; e.g., total feeding time was greater in the daytime than at night, whereas resting time showed the opposite tendency. Moving mostly occurred in the daytime, and ruminating mainly occurred at night. Additionally, feeding activity occurred 32.22 times per day in rams and 31.73 times per day in ewes, whereas ruminating activity after feeding occurred 19.83 times per day in rams and 24.34 times per day in ewes. For each food bolus, the average ruminating time was 51.22 s in rams and 49.52 s in ewes, with 68.22 bouts of rumination per day in rams and57.35 bouts of rumination in ewes. By conducting the experiment, we studied and grasped the local Hu Sheep's main behavior and regularity which are of great significance on improving the feeding management and reducing diseases.展开更多

After caesarean section, the pregnant monkey is weak and postoperative wound pain,so it can not personally feed infant monkeys which must be artificially fed. Thus, establishing suitable feeding management program is very important for improving survival rate of infant rhesus monkey and maintaining good health. We summarized food preparation method for infant rhesus monkeys as well as temperature setting and light control, and established the nursing program for newborn infant monkey and daily management process for infant monkeys.展开更多
