Ten healthy Tibetan mastiff adults were randomly divided into two groups. The intematianally useful double-pot cultivation design was employed to record the daily feed intake and preferred diet of each Tibetan mastiff, and further to calculate the intake rate. The butter group assumed higher feed intake and intake rate than the chicken fat group (P 〈0.01), and the preferred diet as well (83%). The feed intake and intake rate of chicken fat group was significantly higher than chicken fat and butter ( 1:1 ) combined group ( P 〈 0.01 ). No significant difference was observed in the diet palatability of butter diet to Tibetan mastiff to different plant oil sources ( P 〉 0.05). For various fat level combinations, the diet with highest fat content diet H23 assumed higher feed intake and intake rate than low fat diet H22 and H21 (P 〈0.05). It is concluded that the palatability of butter diet to Tibetan mastiff is higher than chicken fat and its combined diet ( butter:chicken fat = 1:1 ) ; with fat level of 6% - 15%, high fat diet provides Tibetan mastiff a better palatability in comparison with low fat diet.展开更多

In women who have undergone menopause, the function of thyroid hormone in their body begins to decline and thus affects the ability of the body to produce energy. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between the intakes of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats and random blood sugar levels in menopausal women.Methods: This study was a correlational analytical research with a cross-sectional design, which was conducted in 72 menopausal women recruited by the purposive sampling technique. In this study, a 24-hour food recall form was used, and randomized blood sugar levels were measured using a glucometer. The analysis of the data was performed using a Pearson product moment and multiple linear regression.Results: Carbohydrates and fats together affected random blood sugar levels with an F-value of 25.810 and a p-value of 0.000.Meanwhile, adjusted R^2 showed the value of 0.411, indicating that the difference in the intake of carbohydrates and fats together affected random blood sugar levels by 41.1%.Conclusions: Intake of carbohydrates and fats affected random blood sugar levels, whereas the rest were influenced by other factors,and protein intake was unrelated to random blood sugar levels in menopausal women.展开更多

Age related increase in body fat is primarily attributed to decline in physical activity and basal metabolic rate as well as dietary intake. The study was designed to assess the body composition, dietary intake and physical activity level of sedentary adult women of different age groups. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 152 sedentary adult women comprised of students and faculty from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The relationship of body composition with dietary factors and physical activity level of women in four age groups i.e. 21 - 30, 31 - 40, 41 - 50 and 51 - 60 years was determined. A gradual increase (p ≤ 0.05) in anthropometric and body composition parameters such as weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, body mass index, fat mass and visceral fat rating was observed with the advancement of age. The lean body mass was decreased significantly (p ≤ 0.05) as the age progressed, the values for four age groups being 74.9, 68.9, 62.8 and 60.9%, respectively. Contrary to this fat mass increased with age, the corresponding values for four age groups being 15.7, 21.4, 26.6 and 29.2 kg, respectively. The percent adequacy of protein by four age groups was 69.6, 78.2, 80.0 and 66.3, respectively when compared to RDA while fat intake was much higher i.e. 245.5, 271.8, 288.4 and 250.8%, respectively. The energy intake was inadequate among all age groups, however, a significant (p ≤ 0.05) differ- ence was observed in daily energy consumption between the age groups. The mean physical activity level (PAL) of the subjects ranged between 1.49 - 1.60. The physical activity level values showed that majority of the subjects (87% - 94%) were having sedentary life style. Age is a crucial factor associated with body composition. A high fat mass and low lean body mass of the subjects was observed. Their diets were low in protein but high in fat. Majority of the subjects from different age groups had sedentary life style. A diet with higher protein and lesser fat combined with exercise can help in sustaining optimum body composition.展开更多
We investigate high electron mobility transistors (HEMT’s) based on AlGaN/GaN grown by molecular beam epitaxy on Silicon substrates. The improvement of the performances of such transistors is still subject to the inf...We investigate high electron mobility transistors (HEMT’s) based on AlGaN/GaN grown by molecular beam epitaxy on Silicon substrates. The improvement of the performances of such transistors is still subject to the influence of threading dislocations and point defects which are commonly observed in these devices. Deep levels in FAT-HEMT’s are characterized by using Capacitance-Voltage (C-V) measurements, from which we can extract the barrier height and the donor concentration in the AlGaN layer. Deep Level Transient Spectroscopy (DLTS) Technique is also employed to identify defects in the heterostructure. Measurements reveal the presence of one electron trap with the activation energy E1 = 0.30 eV and capture cross-section σn = 3.59 10–19cm2. The localization and the identification of this trap have been discussed.展开更多
