The African continent habituated with volatile conflicts and protracted violence,be it intra-state or inter-state is also acquainted with multi-ethnic tensions breeding different militias.The trend,although not new,is...The African continent habituated with volatile conflicts and protracted violence,be it intra-state or inter-state is also acquainted with multi-ethnic tensions breeding different militias.The trend,although not new,is the expanding phenomenon of Jihadism and general terrorism.Some of these and other forms of conflicts summarize the geopolitics of Africa’s Great Lakes Region(AGLR).The bloodbath wherein the subregion engrosses itself is not solely guided by political considerations.Both endogenous and exogenous capitalist economic profit have stirred the system while ethnic politics and politics on ethnic leanings have amplified the scenario.The endeavors of both the international community and regional blocs appear deficient-a consequence of the frailty of the UN system and general multilateralism.Peace is possible for AGLR when humanity is placed over the tidal wave of capitalist profit,patriotism over toxic ethnicity and respect is accorded to international jurisprudence emblemed by the bona fide principle of pacta sunt Servanda,without neglecting the capacity of the youth and peace education.展开更多
Rapid formation of autotrophic partial denitrification(APD)granules is of practical interest to start up an expanded granular sludge bed reactor for wastewater treatment.This study demonstrates that methanogenic granu...Rapid formation of autotrophic partial denitrification(APD)granules is of practical interest to start up an expanded granular sludge bed reactor for wastewater treatment.This study demonstrates that methanogenic granules can be easily acclimated into autotrophic partial denitrification granules in one day,with the ability to remove 82%of 2.7 kg-S/(m^3·d)sulfide into S^0 and to convert 97%of 0.9 kg-N/(m^3·d)nitrate into nitrite,which can provide a promising feedstock for anaerobic ammonia oxidation process.Arcobacter sp.is essential for S^0 accumulation.Under high loadings,the abundance of Arcobacter sp.decreased,while on the contrary the abundance of unclassified_p_Firmicutes increased,leading to the deterioration of autotrophic partial denitrification performance.The granules performance could be recovered by adopting the strategies of properly reducing the influent loadings.展开更多

We consider Generalized Jacobi polynomials（CJPs） with indexes corres...In this article, we develop a fully Discrete Galerkin（DG） method for solving ini- tial value fractional integro-differential equations（FIDEs）. We consider Generalized Jacobi polynomials（CJPs） with indexes corresponding to the number of homogeneous initial conditions as natural basis functions for the approximate solution. The fractional derivatives are used in the Caputo sense. The numerical solvability of algebraic system obtained from implementation of proposed method for a special case of FIDEs is investigated. We also provide a suitable convergence analysis to approximate solutions under a more general regularity assumption on the exact solution. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.展开更多
This research paper describes the tsunami damage to tide walls observed using aerial photographs and field investigations at 13 locations along the coast of Iwate Prefecture, where significant tsunami damage occurred ...This research paper describes the tsunami damage to tide walls observed using aerial photographs and field investigations at 13 locations along the coast of Iwate Prefecture, where significant tsunami damage occurred as a result of the Great East Japan Earthquake. This paper also summarizes the characteristics of the damage. The tide walls in Iwate Prefecture were constructed on a ria （hilly type） coast, this geographical feature of lwate being different from that of the other disaster areas, primarily Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures. The results of our investigations show that all the devastated tide walls suffered from overflow before being damaged. In particular, the sloping and vertical type tide walls with slope protection were damaged by scouring of the infill sand or back fill soil due to the overflow of the tsunami. In the case of vertical type tide walls without slope protection, damage was caused by scouring of the back fill soil.展开更多
