Introduction:Minimizing the importation and exportation risks of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a primary concern for sustaining the“Dynamic COVID-zero”strategy in China.Risk estimation is essential for cities...Introduction:Minimizing the importation and exportation risks of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a primary concern for sustaining the“Dynamic COVID-zero”strategy in China.Risk estimation is essential for cities to conduct before relaxing border control measures.Methods:Informed by the daily number of passengers traveling between 367 prefectures(cities)in China,this study used a stochastic metapopulation model parameterized with COVID-19 epidemic characteristics to estimate the importation and exportation risks.Results:Under the transmission scenario(R0=5.49),this study estimated the cumulative case incidence of Changchun City,Jilin Province as 3,233(95%confidence interval:1,480,4,986)before a lockdown on March 14,2022,which is close to the 3,168 cases reported in real life by March 16,2022.In a total of 367 prefectures(cities),127(35%)had high exportation risks according to the simulation and could transmit the disease to 50%of all other regions within a period from 17 to 94 days.The average time until a new infection arrives in a location in 1 of the 367 prefectures(cities)ranged from 26 to 101 days.Conclusions:Estimating COVID-19 importation and exportation risks is necessary for preparedness,prevention,and control measures of COVID-19—especially when new variants emerge.展开更多

BACKGROUND Benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis(BRIC)is a rare autosomal recessive liver disease,causing episodic cholestasis with intense pruritus.This case report highlights the effectiveness of early plasmaphe...BACKGROUND Benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis(BRIC)is a rare autosomal recessive liver disease,causing episodic cholestasis with intense pruritus.This case report highlights the effectiveness of early plasmapheresis as a therapeutic option for BRIC type 2,offering rapid symptom relief and early termination of cholestatic episodes.It contributes to the limited evidence supporting plasmapheresis as a treatment for BRIC flares resistant to conventional therapies.CASE SUMMARY A 43-year-old male with BRIC type 2 presented with fatigue,jaundice,and severe pruritus,triggered by a recent mild severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection.Laboratory results confirmed cholestasis with elevated bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase.First-line pharmacological treatments,including cholestyramine and rifampicin,failed.Endoscopic nasobiliary drainage was ineffective,prompting initiation of plasmapheresis.This intervention rapidly relieved pruritus,with complete biochemical normalisation after 11 sessions.Two years later,a similar episode occurred,and early reinitiation of plasmapheresis led to symptom resolution within two sessions and biochemical recovery within two weeks.The patient tolerated the procedure well,with no adverse effects observed.Follow-up showed no signs of cholestasis recurrence.CONCLUSION Plasmapheresis is a safe and effective option for therapy-refractory BRIC type 2,particularly when initiated early in cholestasis.展开更多

The number of countries participating in China’s Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)has been increasing since its official launch in 2013.Although the number of BRI participating countries has reached 145,only some are dir...The number of countries participating in China’s Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)has been increasing since its official launch in 2013.Although the number of BRI participating countries has reached 145,only some are directly connected with China through land,sea,and other trade routes developed under the BRI project.Because of their direct links with China,these countries have significantly increased their trade with China.In addition to increased trade,these countries have also been undergoing financial development(FD).Since trade and financial development are closely related to the production of goods and services,therefore;both of these are expected to have environmental impact.The current study examines the effect of trade and FD on carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions in selected BRI countries for the period 2001–2019.This study follows a proper estimation strategy based on preliminary tests,cointegration analysis,and coefficient estimation.The results suggest that trade between China and selected BRI countries has no significant effect on CO_(2) emissions,whereas,financial development has significantly increased CO_(2) emissions in these countries.Moreover,BRI countries’imports from China significantly reduce CO_(2) emissions,whereas their exports to China significantly increase CO_(2) emission in the BRI countries.The policy recommendations suggest that these BRI countries should leverage their direct connections with China for technology transfer.By utilizing environmentally friendly technology,these countries could also reduce the pollution associated with their exports to China and the rest of the world.Furthermore,their financial sectors should divert funds to industries advancing trade in environmental rather than pollution-intensive goods.展开更多
