Methanolic extract of </span><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">G.</span></i> <i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">lucidum</span></i><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> (MEGL) was investigated for its </span><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">in</span></i> <i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">vitro</span></i><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> antioxidant activity using 1,1-diphenyl 2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and EC</span><sub><span style="font-family:Verdana;">50</span></sub><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> value was determined. </span><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">α</span></i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">-Amylase inhibitory and anti-</span><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">S.</span></i> <i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">aureus</span></i><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> activities were carried out by conventional methods. The mushroom extract showed maximum free radical scavenging activity at a dose of 500 μg/mL with EC</span><sub><span style="font-family:Verdana;">50</span></sub><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> value of 22.1399 μg/mL. EC</span><sub><span style="font-family:Verdana;">50</span></sub><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> value for the inhibition of </span><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">α</span></i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">-amylase activity was found 22.6011 μg/mL. </span><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">G.</span></i> <i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">lucidum</span></i><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> extracts exhibited a concentration-dependent Anti-</span><i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">S.</span></i> <i><span style="font-family:Verdana;">aureus</span></i><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> activity. The vast differences of this inhibition between lower and higher doses were assessed significantly (p < 0.05). Antihypertensive,anti-inflammatory,glycaemic,and satiety effects of cocoa-flavoured soy-based powder drink mix enriched with bioactive hydrolysates from nests of Aerodramus fuciphagus

Objectives:Edible bird nest hydrolysates(EBNHs)are renowned for their health benefits.The study aimed to determine their functional effects as an ingredient in cocoa-flavoured soy-based powder drink mix(PDM).The glycaemic and satiety effects of the product were also studied.Materials and Methods:The product was enriched with a reasonably low amount of spray-dried EBNH.The product’s functional effects with respect to in vitro angiotensin-converting enzyme(ACE)inhibitory activity and human red blood cell membrane stabilization(RBCMS)activity were evaluated using its water extract(90-95℃).The glycaemic and satiety impacts were evaluated in twelve and thirty subjects,respectively,who consumed 250 mL of the product,which contained 25 g of available carbohydrates.Results:The enriched PDM ACE inhibitory activity and RBCMS activity were significantly higher(P<0.05)than those that were devoid of EBNH.Two hundred and forty milliliters(12.5%(125 mg/mL))of PDM(containing 3.0%EBNH,75.44%soybean powder,20%cocoa powder,0.5%xanthan gum,1.0%silicon dioxide,and 0.06%sucralose(mass fraction))provides approximately 3.7 kcal/g energy.The 250 mL meal(consistency index of 14.17 Pa·sn)is high in protein and dietary fibre.The product’s glycaemic index(GI)and glycaemic load(GL)are low,24 and 6.0,respectively,raising a normal level of 2-h postprandial blood glucose(<6 mmol/L)and satisfying hunger for approximately 2.5 h.Conclusions:EBNH,as an ingredient,enhances the antihypertensive and anti-inflammatory properties of PDM.The overall findings suggest that the formulated PDM is a wellness food product capable of promoting good human health,including for dieters and individuals with diabetes. 展开更多

Pure wheat malt beer (PWMB) with potentially functional properties may attract consumer interest.To explore the functional properties of non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) in PWMB,NSPs were extracted from PWMB and separated into PWMB non-starch polysaccharides-1 (PNSP-1) and PWMB non-starch polysaccharides-2 (PNSP-2) by Q-Sepharose Fast Flow column.PNSP-1 exhibited more effects on increasing the viscosity of beers,which had higher purity of 92.58% containing 88.53% arabinoxylan with arabinose/xylose (A/X) 0.60 and 2.78% β-glucan but no glucomannan and mannan;while PNSP-2 showed greater effects on promoting beer haze and foam retention,which had more diverse NSPs including 46.03% arabinoxylan with A/X 1.13,41.47% arabinogalactan,10.26% glucomannan,and 2.70% mannan but no β-glucan.Diversity of sugar composition resulted in a better antioxidant capacity of PNSP-2.NSPs proliferated Lactobacillus casei LC6117 and LC0331,but did not promote L.plantarum LP-28 and L.fermentium LF-2H.PNSP-2 was also utilized by L.rhamnosus SRG.PNSP-2 had better effects on prebiotics activities.PNSP,PNSP-1 and PNSP-2 all exhibited mild inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase and lipase but not on α-amylase,and showed a binding capacity to fat and cholesterol.This work is of great reference significance for improving the viscosity,haze,foam retention and health value of wheat beer. 展开更多

Characterization of Turkish Astragalus honeys according to their phenolic profiles and biological activities with a chemometric approach

The genus of Astragalus provides a significant source of pollen and nectar for honeybees.In this study,37 Astragalus honey samples in 8 different regions from Turkey were investigated for the phenolic compositions and antioxidant,antimicrobial,anti-quorum sensing,anti-inflammatory and enzyme inhibitory(urease,tyrosinase,butyrylcholinesterase(BChE),and acetylcholinesterase(AChE))activities with chemometric approaches.Seventeen phenolic compounds and organic acids were detected using HPLC-DAD and levulinic,gallic,p-hydroxy benzoic,vanilic and p-coumaric acids were found to be common compounds in all studied Astragalus honey samples.The ET coded Astragalus honey sample from Erzurum showed the best antioxidant activity in DPPH^(•)(IC_(50):12.54±0.25 mg/mL),ABTS^(•+)(IC_(50):4.20±0.12 mg/mL)andβ-carotene linoleic acid(IC_(50):3.85±0.11 mg/mL)assays.Astragalus honey samples studied displayed moderate antimicrobial activity against Candida species,gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria while they showed high quorum sensing inhibition effects.The NB coded Astragalus honey sample from Ni˘gde exhibited the highest anti-inflammatory activity against COX-1(76.11±0.80%)and COX-2(55.98±0.93%)enzymes.The studied Astragalus honey samples showed mild enzyme inhibitory activities against AChE,BChE,urease and tyrosinase.The chemometric characterization based on the botanical origin of Astragalus honey samples was determined using principal component analysis(PCA)and hierarchical cluster analysis(HCA). 展开更多
