文摘Background:Work engagement(WE)is critical to quality primary healthcare delivery. However, limited research has explored its levels and determinants among healthcare professionals in low-and middle-income countries. This study assessed the levels and correlates of work engagement among physician assistants(PAs)in Ghana. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted among 439 PAs from October to December 2024.Participants were recruited via emails, social media platforms, and posters featuring study links and scannable questionnaire codes.WE was measured using the validated Utrecht Work Engagement Scale questionnaire. Results:Overall,WE levels were average, with similar trends across the three subdomains. In the bootstrapped multivariate linear regression model, anxiety was negatively associated with WE(β=-0.49,95%confidence interval[CI]:-0.77 to-0.21).Conversely,working in an urban area(β=0.36,95%CI:0.05 to 0.67),holding the rank of PA/Senior PA(β=0.27,95%CI:0.03 to 0.52),reporting good self-rated health(β=0.54,95%CI:0.19 to 0.88),and working at health centers(β=0.86,95%CI:0.22 to 1.50)were positively associated with WElevels. Conclusion:WE levels are average in the study sample, highlighting the need for strategic interventions to improve and sustain the healthcare workforce's motivation and performance.Addressing workplace stressors, enhancing professional development opportunities, and fostering supportive work environments could improve engagement among PAs and healthcare professionals in general.Strengthening WE is essential for ensuring resilient quality primary healthcare systems and achieving the goals of universal health coverage.
文摘This phenomenological qualitative study explored the lived experiences of employees at Maryland's Historically Black Colleges and Universities(HBCUs)concerning internal control systems through the theoretical lenses of the COSO framework and employee engagement theory.Using semi-structured interviews with faculty and staff who had worked at the institution for more than three years, the research investigated how employees perceive leadership tone, risk assessment processes, policy implementation, communication channels, and evaluation mechanisms related to internal controls. The study revealed five major themes that characterize employee experiences with internal control systems at this HBCU.Leadership communication was found to be hierarchical but inclusive, though marked by inconsistent communication of ethical values and significant resource constraints affecting implementation.Risk management practices were predominantly reactive rather than proactive, with limited systematic risk assessment processes that focused more on academic risks than operational vulnerabilities.Policy implementation was characterized by unclear separation of duties, substantial workload imbalances, and limited resources that compromised effective control activities.Communication challenges emerged as a critical weakness, with participants describing information sharing as inconsistent, unclear, and selective, compounded by significant technology obstacles in accessing necessary information. The evaluation and improvement processes were found to be limited and primarily driven by external accreditation requirements rather than systematic internal monitoring, resulting in reactive responses to issues rather than proactive enhancement. The findings contribute to the limited research on internal control systems within HBCUs by providing phenomenological insights into how structural constraints including funding limitations, unclear role delineation, and reactive management approaches create barriers to implementing robust internal control systems.Despite institutional commitment to inclusive leadership and student success, the study reveals that addressing these challenges requires not only increased resources but also structural changes to workload distribution, communication practices, and a shift toward more proactive risk management and monitoring procedures. The research provides evidence-based insights for HBCU administrators seeking to strengthen internal control implementation while maintaining institutional mission and cultural values.
文摘BACKGROUND Enhancing work engagement among physical education(PE)teachers is crucial for building a strong sports nation and fostering educational advancement. However,PE teachers frequently experience conflicts between work and family roles, significantly impacting their professional involvement. The concept of work-family facilitation, highlighting mutual facilitation between work and family domains, has considerable theoretical and practical significance but remains underexplored in this context. This study integrates ecosystem theory, spillover theory, social exchange theory, and two-factor theory to systematically explore the mechanism through which work-family facilitation influences work engagement.Specifically,it investigates the roles of psychological resilience and job satisfaction in this relationship, providing a novel theoretical perspective and empirical evidence.AIM To systematically explore the mechanism through which work-family facilitation influences work engagement among PE teachers.METHODS A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted among 436 PE teachers.Structural equation modeling was used to examine relationships among variables and assess mediating effects.RESULTS Work-family facilitation positively correlated with psychological resilience, job satisfaction, and work engagement(r=0.323-0.705,P<0.001).Psychological resilience and job satisfaction fully mediated the relationship between work-family facilitation and work engagement, demonstrating a significant chain mediation effect.CONCLUSION This study confirms that promoting work-family facilitation enhances psychological resilience and job satisfaction, thereby significantly boosting work engagement among PE teachers. These findings underline the importance of targeted interventions to enhance work-family resources, psychological resilience, and job satisfaction, contributing to theoretical advancements and practical implications for educational management.

文摘Pressure has been introduced into power systems owing to the intermittent and uncertain nature of renewable energy. As a result, energy resource aggregators are emerging in the electricity market to realize sustainable and economic advantages through distributed generation, energy storage, and demand response resources. However, resource aggregators face the challenge of dealing with the uncertainty of renewable energy generation and setting appropriate incentives to exploit substantial energy flexibility in the building sector. In this study,a risk-aware optimal dispatch strategy that integrates probabilistic renewable energy prediction and bi-level building flexibility engagements is proposed.A natural gradient boosting algorithm(NGBoost),which requires no prior knowledge of uncertain variables, was adopted to develop a probabilistic photovoltaic(PV)forecasting model. The lack of suitable flexibility incentives is addressed by a novel interactive flexibility engagement scheme that can take into account building users'willingness and optimize the building flexibility provision. The chance-constrained programming method was applied to manage the supply-demand balance of the resource aggregator and ensure risk-aware decision-making in power dispatch. The case study results show the strong economic and environmental performance of the proposed strategy. The proposed strategy leads to a win-win situation in which profit increases through a load reduction of 13% and a carbon emission reduction of 3% is achieved for different stakeholders, which also shows a trade-off between the economic benefits and the risk of supply shortage.
文摘Student engagement in learning is a concern for teachers in the implementation of blended learning, which reflects the effectiveness of the pedagogical measures taken by teachers.Blended learning encompasses traditional blended, blended online, and blended synchronous, which combine synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning activities. This paper adopts an inductive approach to investigate and analyse students‘engagement in learning from three dimensions:behavioural, affective and cognitive, specifically focusing on three meta-categories,namely,course structure and arrangement, choice of teaching and learning activities, and teacher’s role in relation to the course,to investigate the teaching of teachers of different disciplines in three vocational colleges and to analyse the pedagogical strategies that the teachers use in order to improve students’engagement in blended learning. The findings suggest that communicating about the course at the beginning of the semester, clarifying course requirements, and building a trusting relationship with students play a key role in increasing student engagement in blended learning, and that the use of digital tools is an important means of promoting students’behavioural and emotional active participation in learning.

文摘A cooperative guidance law is proposed in a two-ontwo engagement scenario with large-heading-errors by choosing zero-effort miss distance as a sliding surface, which consists of an attacker,a protector,a defender, and a target, based on fixed-time sliding mode control theory.Based on the nonlinear method of fixed-time sliding mode control, the performance of the cooperative guidance law remains satisfactory even with large-heading-errors scenarios where the linearization-based approaches might be invalid.By virtue of this law,the attacker pursues the target with the assistance of the protector, which can intercept the defender in the engagement scenario.Furthermore,if the attacker is intercepted by the defender, the guidance law of the protector could guarantee that the protector attacks the target.A robust adaptive term is included in the guidance law to deal with the case of the unknown disturbance upper bound of the defender-target team. Finally, the feasibility of the guidance law is verified by nonlinear numerical simulations, and the superiority of it is illustrated by comparing with the linearization guidance law.
文摘This review aims to gain a deeper understanding of the current interventions used in high-income and low-and middle-income countries worldwide on treatment engagement among persons with severe mental illnesses.Treatment engagement involves cultivating therapeutic partnerships to address patients’unique needs and challenges. This multifaceted process requires sensitivity, collaboration, and a tailored approach to promote positive outcomes.Effective treatment engagement reduces the chances of relapse and rehospitalization and helps individuals steer through their daily lives and social relationships.Through literature analysis,it was found that individual, situational, and environmental factors affected treatment engagement.Community nurses are crucial in promoting behavioral changes by engaging patients and applying tailor-made interventions.Applying problem-solving,coping skills, and strategies to address factors influencing adherence, motivational interviewing, and telephone follow-ups yielded significant results. The interventions recommended in community settings are tele-aftercare programs and home visits to address issues of dropped-out persons with severe mental illnesses and ensure continuity of treatment.Accessible,nonstigmatizing,non-coercive,informal,and appropriate services are suggested. These interventions can improve treatment engagement, medication adherence, and therapeutic alliance, thereby reducing symptoms and improving patients’quality of life.
