The endocrine-disrupting chemicals(EDCs)and antibiotics are causing negative effects on human beings and animals by disrupting the endocrine system and spreading antimicrobial resistance.The current need is to eradica...The endocrine-disrupting chemicals(EDCs)and antibiotics are causing negative effects on human beings and animals by disrupting the endocrine system and spreading antimicrobial resistance.The current need is to eradicate pharmaceutical waste from water bodies using advanced catalytic systems with high efficiency.Novel ternary carbon quantum dots(CQDs)decorated Z-Scheme WS_(2)-PANI nanocomposite was prepared by a green synthesis assisted in-situ polymerization for the photodegradation and detection of Estradiol(EST)and Nitrofurantoin(NFT).HRTEM micrographs revealed the formation of CQDs with a mean size of 4nm anchored on the surface of WS_(2)/PANI(width:PANI~20-30nm).The ternary nanocomposite showed excellent photocatalytic activity,degraded NFT(95.7%in 60min),and EST(96.6%in 60min).The rate kinetics study confirms the reaction followed pseudo first-order model.This heterostructure exhibited enhanced performances by modulating the energy level configuration,enhancing the absorption of visible light(2.4eV),and significantly improving the charge separation,three times higher than pristine WS_(2).These are highly favorable for increasing the generation of photoinduced charges and enhancing the overall performance of the catalyst.Further,the electrochemical sensor was prepared using CQDs@WS_(2)/PANI nanocomposite on a paper-based electrode.The CQDs@WS_(2)/PANI exhibit a linear response of 0.1-100nM,with a limit of detection of 13nM.This synergistic interfacial interaction resulted in the significantly improved electrochemical performance of the modified electrode.The proposed Z-scheme was justified by electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)and scavenger experiment.An intermediate degradation pathway was also proposed.The synthesized materials were characterized using FESEM,HRTEM,XRD,FTIR,XPS,UV-visible spectroscopy,PL,and TRPL.Therefore,this study provides a direct approach to fabricate a heterojunction that combines two-dimensional,one dimensional,and zero-dimensional properties,enabling control over the energy level configuration and subsequent improvements in photocatalytic and electrocatalytic efficiency.展开更多
A redox-active monolayer on an optically transparent electrode constitutes a typical platform for spectroelectrochemical sensing.The necessity for its sophistication arises from the availability of multi-dimensional s...A redox-active monolayer on an optically transparent electrode constitutes a typical platform for spectroelectrochemical sensing.The necessity for its sophistication arises from the availability of multi-dimensional sensing signals.Simultaneous monitoring of the redox current and color change synchronized with the oxidation state change significantly enhances sen-sitivity and selectivity.This study aimed to elucidate the modification of an indium tin oxide(ITO)electrode with a viologen monolayer with an ordered orientation.Novel methods were developed to immobilize a viologen molecule bearing a car-boxyl group to form assembled monolayers through a condensation reaction using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-car-bodiimide with N-hydroxy-succinimide(EDC/NHS).In the two methods of immobilization,one utilizes a two-step process to firstly form an aromatic siloxane base layer and subsequently attach the viologen derivative through an amide linkage by post-amidation.The other employs a direct ester linkage between the hydroxyl groups of the ITO surface and the car-boxyl group of the viologen derivative.The latter method was also applied to immobilize a ferrocenyl group at a very short distance from the ITO surface.Potential-modulated UV-visible transmission absorption spectral measurement techniques with oblique incidence of plane-polarized light were employed to determine the orientation of the longitudinal axis of the reduced form of the viologen.The frequency dependence data of the potential-modulated transmission absorption signals were utilized to analyze the electron transfer kinetics.The performance of the two viologen-modified electrodes was com-pared to that of an ITO modified by post-amidation to the most commonly used base layer prepared with 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane.展开更多
The continuous and rapid increase of chemical pollution in surface waters has become a pressing and widely recognized global concern.As emerging contaminants(ECs)in surface waters,pharmaceutical and personal care prod...The continuous and rapid increase of chemical pollution in surface waters has become a pressing and widely recognized global concern.As emerging contaminants(ECs)in surface waters,pharmaceutical and personal care products(PPCPs),and endocrine-disrupting compounds(EDCs)have attracted considerable attention due to their wide occurrence and potential threat to human health.Therefore,a comprehensive understanding of the occurrence and risks of ECs in Chinese surface waters is urgently required.This study summarizes and assesses the environmental occurrence concentrations and ecological risks of 42 pharmaceuticals,15 personal care products(PCPs),and 20 EDCs frequently detected in Chinese surface waters.The ECs were primarily detected in China’s densely populated and highly industrialized regions.Most detected PPCPs and EDCs had concentrations between ng/L toμg/L,whereas norfloxacin,caffeine,and erythromycin had relatively high contamination levels,even exceeding 2000 ng/L.Risk evaluation based on the risk quotient method revealed that 34 PPCPs and EDCs in Chinese surface waters did not pose a significant risk,whereas 4-nonylphenol,4-tert-octylphenol,17α-ethinyl estradiol,17β-estradiol,and triclocarban did.This review provides a comprehensive summary of the occurrence and associated hazards of typical PPCPs and EDCs in Chinese surface waters over the past decade,and will aid in the regulation and control of these ECs in Chinese surface waters。展开更多
