In response to meeting the needs of cultivating applied talents in the construction of new engineering disciplines,based on the concept of Outcome-Based Education(OBE),this study analyzes the problems existing in the teaching of the course Environmental Engineering Microbiology,and put forward some corresponding curriculum reform schemes.According to the target points of professional graduation requirements,the scheme proposes revising the syllabus of Environmental Engineering Microbiology,clarifying the curriculum objectives,updating the teaching content,and reforming the teaching methods.Through these measures,it is intended to achieve the unity of teachers way of"teaching"and students way of"learning",construct a new teaching mode,fully stimulate students subjective initiative,and enhance students innovative consciousness and practical ability.Besides,in this study,a"whole process-diversification"evaluation system is established to comprehensively evaluate students performance in theoretical knowledge learning and practical application,comprehensively evaluate students learning situation,and analyze the teaching effect in real time,so as to achieve continuous improvement,and ultimately achieve the goal of improving classroom quality. 展开更多

How do scientists use terminology related to cropland?Examining the disparity across disciplines and regions

In many existing dictionaries,cropland is defined as land that is suitable for or used to grow crops.It has several synonyms,such as“farmland”,“arable land”,and“cultivated land”.However,in scientific literature,the nuances of these terms are often overlooked.The inconsistent terminology usage could lead to ambiguity and confusion in research and policy discussions.In particular,it creates difficulties for newcomers and students when they search for precise information in the published literature.Hence,exploring the variations of terminology applications is important for the cropland-related research community.In this study,the differences in six cropland-related terminologies were explored through a review of 5,214 scientific articles,by employing the independence test,clustering approach,and correlation analysis.The results showed that disparities exist across disciplines.For example,biodiversity&conservation studies preferentially use“farmland”to highlight effects from human activities,while studies in geology and computer science use“cropland”.The term“cultivated land”tends to be used in geography research for clear geographical demarcation,while“arable land”is related to engineering studies.Moreover,further disparities based on the geographical affiliations of the authors were found.The correlation between China and“cultivated land”was reliable and a close link was found between“agricultural land”and the USA.The regional variations in cropland terminology can be influenced by multiple factors,including the degree of agricultural mechanization,colonial history,and migration patterns.This study reveals variations in cropland-related terminology across disciplines and regions.The results highlight the importance of standardizing cropland terminology to foster interdisciplinary research,improve data comparability,and support global agricultural and environmental policymaking. 展开更多

To deeply analyze the impact of international student mobility on their internationalization capabilities in the field of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering,this study systematically reviewed the exchange dynamics of international students at Southwest Petroleum University from 2014 to 2024,as well as detailed data on students’overseas visits from 2016 to 2024,carefully outlining the trends and characteristics of student international mobility over the past decade.Based on this,using an evaluation system for internationalization capabilities constructed by the authors,which closely follows the characteristics of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering and covers key dimensions such as language skills,international perspective,cross-cultural communication,and global cooperation,graduate students from the research team of international students were selected as a sample group.Through a carefully designed survey questionnaire,their current internationalization capabilities were systematically evaluated.The results showed that compared to the benchmark level in 2019,students’internationalization capabilities have shown a significant improvement trend,especially in cross-cultural communication.This finding not only reveals the positive role of international student mobility in promoting academic exchanges and integration but also further emphasizes the unique value of multicultural integration in scientific research teams to enhance the internationalization capabilities of domestic students. 展开更多

Transmission Control under Multi-Service Disciplines in Wireless Sensor Networks

The wireless sensor network(WSN),as the terminal data acquisition system of the 5G network,has attracted attention due to advantages such as low cost and easy deployment.Its development is mainly restricted by energy.The traditional transmission control scheme is not suitable for WSNs due to the significant information interaction.A switchable transmission control scheme for WSNs based on a queuing game(SQGTC)is proposed to improve network performance.Considering that sensor nodes compete for the resources of sink nodes to realize data transmission,the competitive relationship between nodes is described from the perspective of a game.Different types of sensor node requests require a sink node to provide different service disciplines.Mathematical models of social welfare are established for a sink node under the service disciplines of first-come,first-served(FCFS),egalitarian processor sharing(EPS),and shortest service first(SSF).The optimal service strategies are obtained by maximizing social welfare.The sensor nodes provide the expected benefits and satisfy the service requirements of the requests,and the sink node switches the transmission control strategy for the service.Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the data transmission efficiency of WSNs and achieves the optimal allocation of resources. 展开更多

As soon as the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)was founded by the new government of the People’s Republic of China in 1949,the principles of“linking theory with practice”and“conducting research to serve the people”set the framework for its scientific studies.How to balance their obligations to facilitate national economic construction with their desires to advance disciplinary scientific developments posed a knotty problem that frustrated those who organized and engaged in scientific research across the country,and in the CAS in particular.Against this background,the slogan“let tasks lead disciplines”was proposed as an effective solution.However,how exactly to put this into practice became a pressing issue,as CAS scientists and scholars debated the relationship between tasks and advances within scientific disciplines.This paper examines these debates as they were carried out in the case of the comprehensive surveys of natural resources organized by the CAS,focusing especially on different understandings of the relationship between“tasks”and“disciplines”within the CAS in the early 1960s,and examining the impact and legacy of“letting tasks lead disciplinary developments,”with possible lessons for the formulation of scientific plans today. 展开更多

Purpose:Based on the case of the top nine elite universities in China(i.e.C9 League),we evaluate the university discipline advantages in terms of outputs and influence of scientific articles.Combining with the discipline collaboration analysis,we provide suggestions on discipline development and future collaboration for C9 League members.Design/methodology/approach:First,we carry out a correlation analysis.Then,we obtain the new combination evaluation indicators through factor analysis on seven primary indicators from InCite platform.Afterwards,we assign the weighted values to different indicators in order to get the evaluation scores and the ranking for each C9 League member.Then,we obtain the bibliographic data of the C9 League members for extracting the category classifications from the Web and transforming them into Degree-Granting and Personal Trainning Courses Catalogue(DPTCC).According to the original collaboration frequencies among C9 League members,we carry out the analysis on two-mode collaboration networks.Finally,we propose some suggestions on the future collaboration and development.Findings:There is correlation relationship between the outputs of scientific papers and influence indicators,so it is necessary to use the various indicators to acquire the more scientific evaluation.Meanwhile,league members are different in the discipline development level,and have inadequate collaboration with each other,which indicates that there exists the great potential for further collaborations.Research limitations:Despite the relative high quality SCI papers,preference for different disciplines of SCI and different discipline features for C9 members probably exert negative influence on evaluation results.Practical implications:We provide a research thought and an operational approach to the disciplines evaluation,which would promote more methods for scientific discipline evaluation and reasonable management for universities.Originality/value:There are more and more articles on the universities evaluation indexes,but rarely on the relationship among the indicators.Therefore,our approach would be helpful for the evaluation of university disciplines. 展开更多

Under the backdrop of the comprehensive advancement of new engineering education,the robotics engineering discipline,which integrates multiple fields such as mechanics,electronics,control,computer science,and artificial intelligence,urgently needs to break through traditional disciplinary barriers to meet the pressing demand for interdisciplinary talents in the era of intelligent manufacturing and artificial intelligence.This paper systematically reviews the core issues existing in the current course construction of the robotics engineering major,such as a monotonous course structure,weak practical components,and insufficient interdisciplinary integration.It proposes a course system reconstruction path based on the concept of solid foundation,strong cross-disciplinary integration,emphasis on practice,and promotion of innovation.The research emphasizes that a flexible course structure of platform+module+direction should be established around industrial demands and technological frontiers,strengthening the mathematical and physical foundation and core professional courses,and expanding courses in cutting-edge areas such as artificial intelligence,big data,and cloud-edge collaboration.It also advocates for the reform of practical teaching models through project-driven,competition-education integration,and school-enterprise collaboration.Meanwhile,ideological and political education,innovation and entrepreneurship education,and engineering ethics should be organically integrated into the entire course process to form a trinity talent cultivation pattern of value shaping,knowledge imparting,and ability development.By constructing a multi-level,three-dimensional,and open course system for the robotics engineering major,it can provide strong support for the cultivation of high-level applied and innovative talents under the new engineering background,and is of great significance for promoting the connotative development of higher education and the high-quality development of industries. 展开更多

New productivity is based on digitization,intelligence,and greening,driven by disruptive technological innovation and centered on emerging and future industries,aiming to serve high-quality living through efficient and high-quality development.This new type of productivity continuously raises the standards and challenges for engineering science and technology,also posing higher demands on the education of new engineering disciplines.With the continuous emergence of new technologies,new economies,and new business models,the connotation and extension of the new engineering discipline have undergone profound changes,leading to a disruptive transformation in traditional engineering jobs and industrial chains.There is an urgent need to innovate and optimize the talent cultivation model for new engineering disciplines,aligning closely with the evolutionary laws of productivity and production relations in the new era.The development of new productivity poses new requirements for talent cultivation in new engineering disciplines,emphasizing innovation,a more integrated training model,a diversified subject base,and a dynamic development of goals and content.However,current talent cultivation models for new engineering disciplines still face challenges in several areas:unclear goal setting,weak interdisciplinary integration,slow transformation towards digitization and intelligence in education,and a lack of a scientific and comprehensive quality evaluation system.To address these challenges in the context of new productivity,it is necessary to promote reforms in the talent cultivation model for new engineering disciplines through the following approaches:integrating digitization,intelligence,and green development into the entire talent cultivation process;reshaping training concepts;breaking down disciplinary barriers to promote integration;continuously optimizing the training model;introducing virtual simulation and other auxiliary teaching technologies to create a collaborative model of studentteacher assistance in talent cultivation;deepening industry-education integration,and innovating cultivation mechanisms to contribute positively to the training of high-quality new engineering talents. 展开更多

Interdisciplinary integration has become an important pathway for original innovation,with the institutionalized promotion of interdisciplinary construction emerging as a shared trend.The dual attributes of interdisciplinary studies,specifically disciplinarity and interdisciplinarity,give rise to the organizational logics of disciplines and intersections within the interdisciplinary organizational structure.The tension and balance between these logics necessitate that the organizational structure reconcile the relationships among:(1)interest-driven and task-driven approaches,(2)institutionalization and specialization,(3)the quantity and diversity of involved disciplines,(4)disciplinary independence and interdisciplinary integration,and(5)disciplinary development and talent cultivation.To achieve disciplinary outcomes while preserving interdisciplinarity,it is necessary for the interdisciplinary organizational structure to focus on integrative activities and processes.By leveraging the openness and generative nature of integration through the reorganization of disciplinary resource modules within the organizational structure,the framework maintains organic and evolutionary qualities to promote synergy between disciplines and their intersections.Therefore,it can extend the lifecycle of interdisciplinary organizations and enhance the quality of interdisciplinary development. 展开更多
