The fatigue fracture under cyclic dynamic direct tensions of brittle rock is an important mechanical characteristic index for the evaluation of geological disasters and underground engineering safety.However,most stud...The fatigue fracture under cyclic dynamic direct tensions of brittle rock is an important mechanical characteristic index for the evaluation of geological disasters and underground engineering safety.However,most studies focus on macroscopic fracture mechanical properties,and the mechanism linking the macroscopic fracture with the microcrack growth during the cyclic dynamic direct tensile loading of brittle rocks is rarely studied.In this paper,a micro-macro fracture model explaining the stress-strain constitutive relationship is established at the last impact failure after being subjected to multiple cyclic direct tensile impacts of brittle rocks.This model is based on the wing crack extension model under direct tensile loading,the quasi-static and dynamic fracture toughness relationship,the suggested crack rate and strain rate relationship,the relationship of damage and dynamic tensile fatigue life N,the relationship of dynamic fracture toughness and dynamic tensile fatigue life N.The variations of dynamic mechanical properties of rocks with dynamic tensile fatigue life for different initial crack sizes and angles within the rocks are further discussed.The compressive strength,elastic modulus,crack initiation stress,limit crack extension length and crack extension rate descend and the failure strain ascends with an increment of dynamic tensile fatigue life in rocks.This study's results provide help for the safety and stability of the underground surrounding rocks under blasting working or seismic disasters.展开更多

We introduced a struc...Gangue from underground separation of coal can directly be used for filling mined out areas, saving transport capacity and reducing the amount of waste polluting the environment above the ground. We introduced a structure and operating principle of an underground direct-impact sieving device by which a separation experiment was carried out. By means of high speed conveyer belts, coal and gangue impacted the breaking board at high speeds ranging from 6 to 14 m/s. Given the differences of hardness between coal and gangue, after selective crushing, the gangue with the higher hardness was crushed less and coal with lower hardness crushed more, which could be separated by a 50 mm sieving plate. The material above the sieving plate was disposed of as gangue and the material below as coal. The results indicate that the crush ratio below the 50 mm sieving plate increases linearly with an increase in impact velocity and decays exponentially with an increase in hardness. Employing this equipment to separate coal and gangue, the hardness of coal f should be <2. This separation device provides relatively good effect in separating coal and gangue with a relatively wide difference of hardness.展开更多

The Charpy impact test ...An NM400 wear-resistant steel was hot rolled and then the plates were heat-treated by direct quenching and tempering (DQT) and reheat quenching and tempering (RQT) techniques, respectively. The Charpy impact test was carried out with an instrumented Charpy impact tester. The microstructure and fracture surface were investiga-ted by a combination of optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy methods. It was found that the impact toughness of DQT specimen was much higher than that of RQT specimen. The microstructure of both DQT and RQT specimens was characterized by a mixture of tempered lath martensite and lower hainite. The lower bainite in DQT specimen extended into prior austenite grains and the content was higher than that in RQT specimen. The lower bainite in DOT specimen improved the impact toughness by increasing the proportion of large-angle boundaries and relieving the stress concentration at the crack tip. Tropical cyclone,a high energy destructive meteorological system with heavy rainfall and gale triggered massive landslides and windstorms,poses a significant threat to coastal areas.In this paper we have developed a T...Tropical cyclone,a high energy destructive meteorological system with heavy rainfall and gale triggered massive landslides and windstorms,poses a significant threat to coastal areas.In this paper we have developed a Tropical Cyclone Potential Impact Index (TCPI) based on the air mass trajectories,disaster information,intensity,duration,and frequency of tropical cyclones.We analyzed the spatial pattern and interannual variation of the TCPI over the period 1949-2009,and taking the Super Typhoon Saomai as an example have examined the relationship between the TCPI and direct economic losses,total rainfall,and maximum wind speed.The results reveal that China's TCPI appears to be a weak decreasing trend over the period,which is not significant overall,but significant in some periods.Over the past 20 years,the TCPI decreased in the southern China coastal provinces of Hainan,Guangdong and Guangxi,while it increased in the southeastern coastal provinces of Zhejiang,Fujian and Taiwan.The highest values of TCPI are mainly observed in Taiwan,Hainan,the coastal areas of Guangdong and Fujian and Zhejiang's southern coast.The TCPI has a good correlation (P=0.01) with direct economic loss,rainfall,and maximum wind speed.展开更多
