This paper examined how microstructure influences the homogenized thermal conductivity of cellular structures and revealed a surface-induced size-dependent effect. This effect is linked to the porous microstructural features of cellular structures, which stems from the degree of porosity and the distri-bution of the pores.Unlike the phonon-driven surface effect at the nanoscale, the macro-scale surface mechanism in thermal cellular structures is found to be the microstructure-induced changes in the heat conduction path based on fully resolved 3D numerical simulations. The surface region is determined by the microstructure, characterized by the intrinsic length. With the coupling between extrinsic and intrinsic length scales under the surface mechanism,a surface-enriched multiscale method was devel-oped to accurately capture the complex size-dependent thermal conductivity. The principle of scale separation required by classical multiscale methods is not necessary to be satisfied by the proposed multiscale method. The significant potential of the surface-enriched multiscale method was demon-strated through simulations of the effective thermal conductivity of a thin-walled metamaterial struc-ture.The surface-enriched multiscale method offers higher accuracy compared with the classical multiscale method and superior efficiency over high-fidelity finite element methods. 展开更多

Anode-free lithium metal batteries are prone to capacity degradation and safety hazards due to the formation and growth of lithium dendrites. The interface between the current collector and deposited lithium plays a critical role in preventing dendrite formation by regulating the thermodynamics and kinetics of lithium deposition. In this study,we develop a phase field model to investigate the influence of the current collector’s surface energy on lithium deposition morphology and its effect on the quality of the lithium metal film.It is demonstrated that a higher surface energy of the current collector promotes the growth of lithium metal along the surface of the current collector.Further, our simulation results show that a higher surface energy accelerates the formation of the lithium metal film while simultaneously reducing its surface roughness.By examining different contact angles and applied potentials,we construct a phase diagram of deposition morphology, illustrating that increased surface energy facilitates the dense and uniform deposition of lithium metal by preventing the formation of lithium filaments and voids. These findings provide new insights into the development and application of anode-free lithium metal batteries. 展开更多

This study proposes an alternative calculation mode for stresses on the slip surface(SS).The calculation of the normal stress(NS)on the SS involves examining its composition and expanding its unknown using the Taylor series. This expansion enables the reasonable construction of a function describing the NS on the SS.Additionally,by directly incorporating the nonlinear Generalized Hoke-Brown(GHB)strength criterion and utilizing the slope factor of safety(FOS)definition,a function of the shear stress on the SS is derived. This function considers the mutual feedback mechanism between the NS and strength parameters of the SS.The stress constraints conditions are then introduced at both ends of the SS based on the spatial stress relation of one point.Determining the slope FOS and stress solution for the SS involves considering the mechanical equilibrium conditions and the stress constraint conditions satisfied by the sliding body. The proposed approach successfully simulates the tension-shear stress zone near the slope top and provides an intuitive description of the concentration effect of compression-shear stress of the SS near the slope toe.Furthermore, compared to other methods, the present method demonstrates superior processing capabilities for the embedded nonlinear GHB strength criterion. 展开更多

The aim of this study is to evaluate the uncertainty of 2πα and 2πβ surface emission rates using the windowless multiwire proportional counter method. This study used the Monte Carlo method (MCM) to validate the conventional Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM) method.A dead time measurement model for the two-source method was established based on the characteristics of a single-channel measurement system, and the voltage threshold correction factor measurement function was indirectly obtained by fitting the threshold correction curve. The uncertainty in the surface emission rate was calculated using the GUM method and the law of propagation of uncertainty. The MCM provided clear definitions for each input quantity and its uncertainty distribution, and the simulation training was realized with a complete and complex mathematical model. The results of the surface emission rate uncertainty evaluation for four radioactive plane sources using both methods showed the uncertainty’s consistency E_(n)<0.070 for the comparison of each source, and the uncertainty results of the GUM were all lower than those of the MCM.However, the MCM has a more objective evaluation process and can serve as a validation tool for GUM results. 展开更多

Nanomaterials have garnered recognition for their notable surface effects and demonstration of superior mechanical properties.Previous studies on the surface effects of nanomaterials, employing the finite element method, often relied on simplified twodimensional models due to theoretical complexities.Consequently, these simplified models inadequately represent the mechanical properties of nanomaterials and fail to capture the substantial impact of surface effects, particularly the curvature dependence of nanosurfaces. This study applies the principle of minimum energy and leverages the Steigmann-Ogden surface theory of nanomaterials to formulate a novel finite element surface element that comprehensively accounts for surface effects. We conducted an analysis of the stress distribution and deformation characteristics of four typical 2D and 3D nanomaterial models. The accuracy of the developed surface element and finite element calculation method was verified through comparison with established references. The resulting finite element model provides a robust and compelling scientific approach for accurately predicting the mechanical performance of nanomaterials. 展开更多

At present, noise reduction has become an urgent challenge across various fields.Whether in the context of household appliances in daily life or in the enhancement of stealth performance in military equipment, noise control technologies play a critical role. This study introduces a computational framework for simulating Helmholtz equationgoverned acoustic scattering using a boundary element method(BEM)integrated with Loop subdivision surfaces.By adopting the Loop subdivision scheme—a widely used computer-aided design(CAD)technique-the framework unifies geometric representation and physical field discretization, ensuring seamless compatibility with industrial CAD workflows. The core innovation lies in the novel integration of conditional generative adversarial networks(CGANs)into the subdivision surface BEM to assist and accelerate the numerical computation process. In this study, for the two cases examined, the results show that the CGAN-enhanced approach achieves substantial gains in computational efficiency without compromising accuracy.A hierarchical acceleration strategy is further proposed:the fast multipole method(FMM)first reduces baseline computational complexity, while CGAN-driven secondary acceleration and data augmentation enable real-time parameter exploration.Benchmark validations and practical engineering applications demonstrate the method’s robustness and scalability for large-scale structural-acoustic analysis. 展开更多

The precise computation of nanoelectromechanical switches’(NEMS)multi-physical interactions requires advanced numerical models and is a crucial part of the development of micro-and nano-systems.This paper presents a novel compound numerical method to study the instability of a functionally graded(FG)beam-type NEMS,considering surface elasticity effects as stated by Gurtin-Murdoch theory in an Euler-Bernoulli beam. The presented method is based on a combination of the Method of Adjoints(MoA)together with the Bézier-based multistep technique.By utilizing the MoA,a boundary value problem(BVP)is turned into an initial value problem(IVP).The resulting IVP is then solved by employing a cost-efficient multi-step process. It is demonstrated that the mentioned method can arrive at a high level of accuracy.Furthermore,it is revealed that the stability of the presented methodology is far better than that of other common multi-step methods, such as Adams-Bashforth,particularly at higher step sizes. Finally, the effects of axially functionally graded(FG)properties on the pull-in phenomenon and the main design parameters of NEMS,including the detachment length, are inspected. It was shown that the main parameter of design is the modulus of elasticity of the material,as Silver(Ag),which had better mechanical properties, showed almost a 6%improvement compared to aluminum(Al).However,by applying the correct amount of material with sturdier surface parameters, such as Aluminum(Al),at certain points, the nanobeams’functionality can be improved even further by around 1.5%. 展开更多

To address the challenges of poor surface quality and high energy consumption in marble cutting, this study introduces an auxiliary abrasive jet cutting technology enhanced by the use of polyacrylamide(PAM)as a dragreducing additive. The effects of feed rate(50-300 mm/min),polymer concentration(0-0.5 g/L),and nozzle spacing(4-12 mm)on kerf width and surface roughness are systematically investigated through an orthogonal experimental design. Results reveal that feed rate emerges as themost significant factor(p<0.01),followed by PAM concentration and nozzle spacing. The optimal set of parameters, comprising a 200 mm/min feed rate,0.3 g/L PAM concentration, and 6mmnozzle spacing, achieves the narrowest kerf width(0.867 mm)and the lowest surface roughness(10.220μm).Analysis of the underlying mechanisms demonstrates that PAMenhances the energy efficiency of the jet by suppressing turbulent pulsations and increasing fluid viscoelasticity, thereby minimizing energy loss during the cutting process. 展开更多

This paper addresses the Singular Optimal Control Problem(SOCP)for a surface-to-air missile with limited control, fully considering aerodynamic effects with a parabolic drag polar. This problem is an extension of the typical Goddard problem.First, the classical Legendre-Clebsch condition is applied to derive optimal conditions for the singular angle of attack, revealing that the missile turns by gravity along the singular arc.Second, the higher-order differentiation of the switching function provides the necessary conditions to determine the optimal thrust, expressed as linear functions of the costate variables. The vanishing coefficient determinant is then employed to decouple the control and costate variables, yielding the singular thrust solely dependent on state variables and identifying the singular surface. Moreover, the analytical singular control can be regarded as path constraints subject to the typical Optimal Control Problem(OCP),enabling the GPOPS-Ⅱ,a direct method framework that does not involve the singular condition,to solve the SOCP.Finally, three cases with different structures are presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The results show that it takes a few steps to obtain the numerical optimal solution, which is consistent with the analytical solution derived from the calculus of variations, highlighting its great computational accuracy and effectiveness. 展开更多

This study presents a numerical investigation of shallow water wave dynamics with particular emphasis on the role of surface tension. In the absence of surface tension, shallow water waves are primarily driven by gravity and are well described by the classical Boussinesq equation, which incorporates fourth-order dispersion.Under this framework, solitary and shock waves arise through the balance of nonlinearity and gravity-induced dispersion, producing waveforms whose propagation speed, amplitude, and width depend largely on depth and initial disturbance. The resulting dynamics are comparatively smoother, with solitary waves maintaining coherent structures and shock waves displaying gradual transitions. When surface tension is incorporated, however, the dynamics become significantly richer.Surface tension introduces additional sixth-order dispersive terms into the governing equation, extending the classical model to the sixth-order Boussinesq equation. This higher-order dispersion modifies the balance between nonlinearity and dispersion, leading to sharper solitary wave profiles, altered shock structures, and a stronger sensitivity of wave stability to parametric variations.Surface tension effects also change the scaling laws for wave amplitude and velocity, producing conditions where solitary waves can narrow while maintaining large amplitudes,or where shock fronts steepen more rapidly compared to the tension-free case. These differences highlight how capillary forces, though often neglected in macroscopic wave studies, play a fundamental role in shaping dynamics at smaller scales or in systems with strong fluid–interface interactions. The analysis in this work is carried out using the Laplace-Adomian Decomposition Method(LADM),chosen for its efficiency and accuracy in solving high-order nonlinear partial differential equations. The numerical scheme successfully recovers both solitary and shock wave solutions under the sixth-order model, with error analysis confirming remarkably low numerical deviations. These results underscore the robustness of the method while demonstrating the profound contrast between shallow water wave dynamics without and with surface tension. 展开更多

Th... This study explores the complex dynamics of unsteady convective flow in micropolar nanofluids over a rough conical surface, with a focus on the effects of triple diffusive transport and Arrhenius activation energy. The primary objective is to understand the interplay among nonlinear convection, micro-rotation effects, and species diffusion under the influence of thermal and electromagnetic forces. The analysis is motivated by practical applications of cryogenic fluids, specifically liquid hydrogen and liquid nitrogen, where precise control of heat and mass transport is critical. The conical surface roughness is mathematically modeled as a high-frequency, small-amplitude sinusoidal waveform. To address the non-similar nature of the boundary-layer equations, Mangler's transformations are employed, followed by the implementation of a finite difference scheme for numerical solutions. The methodology further integrates a machine learning-based neural network to predict the skin friction under the influence of roughness-induced perturbations, ensuring computational efficiency and improved generalization. The study yields several novel findings. Notably, the presence of surface roughness introduces the wavelike modulations in the local skin friction coefficient. It is also observed that nonlinear convective interactions, enhanced by temperature gradients and vortex viscosity parameters, significantly intensify near-wall velocity gradients. Moreover, key physical quantities are correlated with governing parameters using power-law relationships, providing generalized predictive models. The validation of the numerical results is achieved through consistency checks with the existing limiting solutions and convergence analysis, ensuring the reliability of the proposed computational framework. 展开更多

In three-dimensional free-bending forming(3D-FBF),the tube is not overly constrained, and the plastic deformation behavior and forming quality of the bent tube are significantly affected by the critical structure of the forming die lining. However, the effects of die-lining structural parameters on the tube quality, and a method to determine the combination of die-lining structural parameters is yet to be devised. This study aims to propose a new framework that allows one to understand the effects of various die-lining structural parameters on tube quality and to propose the best combination of die-lining structural parameters.First,finite-element modeling is performed to simulate 3D-FBF and examine the effects of individual die-lining structures on the quality of tube formation. The simulation results show that the deformation-zone length and die gap are positively correlated with the tube-section distortion and wall-thickness variation, whereas it shows an opposite trend with respect to the bending radius.Additionally, the lining chamfer radius of the bending die and the guide lining chamfer radius minimally affect the tube forming quality.Subsequently, the optimal die-lining structure is obtained using the response-surface method. The tube cross-sectional distortion rate reduced from 2.73 to 2.53%after the die lining is optimized.Additionally, the average inner-wall thickness reduced to 1.06 mm,whereas the average outer-wall thickness increased to 0.97 mm.This paper proposes a method for optimizing the forming-die-lining mechanism and for improving the tube forming quality in 3D-FBF. 展开更多
