It changes with time. A sample of 60 houses in the Shagari Low Cost housing scheme in Kanra Namoda was studied in order to find out the characteristics of changes made by the users. Physical observations and questionnaires were used as the major instruments of data collection. The results show that 91% of occupants have made various changes to the original designs without the help of professional designers, and some of the changes have completely transformed the outlook of the houses in locational planning, materials and form. This implies that a post architectural design phase exists, suggesting that the design process can be divided into two phases; the initial design by the architect and the subsequent redesign by the user. The paper presents preliminary findings on the general characteristics of user redesign and concludes that a clear process can be established. The architectural design process can, therefore, be expanded to include the user redesign process in order to reflect the entire lifespan of the building.展开更多

The choice of the sub-stages of the basic process or the decision of how to do a job gains importance in terms of the efficiency of the firm’s activities. Therefore, the decision making function is one of the basic elements involved in the formation and development of the basic processes that can comply with the market dynamics of firms. With the new product being developed, the selection, the current editing or the evaluation of the steps that make up the vehicle design activities for the automotive industry companies that exist and compete in the market, bring about significant gains. In the manufacturing industry, the design of the vehicle determines the market spread, while the competitive conditions are driven by the new or improved product decision. In both cases, the automotive industry firms must know the stages of the most appropriate vehicle design in their own right, and the steps of forming new project dynamics must be devised in this direction. In this study, the result oriented activity of the current vehicle design phases used in the automotive industry companies is determined and the order of importance of the stages is listed. For this purpose, under the same conditions of competition (the same market, the same class vehicles develops and manufactures), 4 in the automotive firm administration, a total of 40 employees (4 × 10 process manager) with the vehicle design was evaluated by determining the effectiveness of the use of the stage. At this stage, analytic hierarchy methods applied to each of the phases are explored in practice instead of the use of the significance level automotive company. Study of the vehicle design phase of the automotive industry: structure, process modifications or new project reveals the important values to be configured according to the size.展开更多

Thus, the energy performance of housings has improved radically over the past decades. Yet other types of buildings, in particular commercial centers, haven’t received the same level of interest. As a result, there is a need for effective and practical measures to decrease their energy consumption, both for heating and electricity. The objective of the paper is to demonstrate that it is possible, through coherent strategies, to integrate energy issues and bioclimatic principles into the design process of commercial centers. It analyzes the exemplary case study of Marin Commercial Center (Switzerland). The interdisciplinary approach, based on integrated design strategies, aimed at increasing the energy efficiency while keeping the cost comparable to the market cost. The main design principles include natural ventilation, nighttime cooling with energy recovery and natural lighting, as well as optimization of mechanical systems. The results of the simulations show that Marin Center attains the best energy performance observed so far among Swiss commercial centers. It also meets the Swiss Minergie standard. The paper thus questions traditional design processes and outlines the need for interdisciplinary evaluation and monitoring approaches tailored for commercial centers. Even though most crucial decisions are taken during the early stages, all phases of the process require systematic optimization strategies, especially operating stages. Recommendations include legal measures, in particular in the fields of ventilation and air-conditioning, education, professional development and technology transfer, and financial incentives for the replacement of energy intensive installations.展开更多

This paper views Integrated Design Process as a process tool and a concept for management and organization of the green energy engineering process. Moreover such a concept is understood both as systematic knowledge and a symbolic device for enabling change. The paper briefly review international variants, and focus on two variants present in Denmark: an architect and engineering variant of IDP. The differences between the concepts include different roles for main actors, the use of information technology, the relation to lean, and forms of collaboration. The paper discusses two building projects focusing on teams of engineers and architects in the early conceptual phase. One develops a solution focused on energy saving technologies, the other on energy producing. It is argued that in this practical context, IDP is viewed as ambiguous and not well defined, and the architects and engineer work hard understanding and using the concepts even when directly involved. It is difficult to reach consensus on how to do it. The various players agree that an increased interdisciplinary interaction in the design team is necessary in order to comply with the increased complexity of green energy building design. IDP shows potential as a driver for green energy engineering and technologies, as traditional roles and responsibilities in the design process is changed, and sustainable solutions for green buildings can reach a higher standard and quality and are integrated earlier in the design process.展开更多

It has a long history of well-established methodologies to answer these complex questions, such as heuristics, mathematical programming, and pinch analysis. Nonetheless, progress continues from different formulations of design problems using bottom-up approaches, to the utilization of new tools such as artificial intelligence (AI). It was not until recently that AI methods were involved again in assisting the decision-making steps for chemical engineers. This has led to a gap in understanding AI's capabilities and limitations within the field of CPD research. Thus, this article aims to provide an overview of conventional methods for process synthesis, integration, and intensification approaches and survey emerging AI-assisted process design applications to bridge the gap. A review of all AI-assisted methods is highlighted, where AI is used as a key component within a design framework, to explain the utility of AI with comparative examples. The studies were categorized into supervised and reinforcement learning based on the machine learning training principles they used to enhance the understanding of requirements, benefits, and challenges that come with it. Furthermore, we provide challenges and prospects that can facilitate or hinder the progress of AI-assisted approaches in the future.展开更多

IDP shows potential as a driver for green energy engineering and technologies, as traditional roles and responsibilities in the design process is changed, and sustainable solutions for green buildings can reach a higher standard and quality and are integrated earlier in the design process.

文摘Energy conservation and emissions reduction in the construction industry are important steps in achieving China’s goals of peak carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.The premise for building carbon emission(CE)reduction is to produce accurate CE calculations.Existing calculation methods for building CEs have many problems, such as complicated calculations, large data demands,time-consuming and laborious processes, weak design orientation of results, and poor feedback on emission reduction. At the same time, the calculation of CEs during the process of architectural design faces obstacles such as uncertainty of information, incomplete data, and difficulty in obtaining a bill of quantities based on design information. To resolve these obstacles, this study, based on a designer’s vocabulary and thinking mode, describes the construction of a“design-oriented”calculation methods for building-embodied carbon emissions(ECEs).The prediction and assessment of the impact on the building environment during the architectural design process were helpful for identifying the key areas for carbon reduction, exploring potential emission reduction hotspots, and providing timely feedback for design optimization, which can have important theoretical value and practical significance in promoting the construction of low-carbon buildings.

文摘Conceptual process design (CPD) research focuses on finding design alternatives that address various design problems. Furthermore, we provide challenges and prospects that can facilitate or hinder the progress of AI-assisted approaches in the future.
