We stu...Background and Method: Parenting and parenting styles are in favor of authoritative parents compared with non-authoritative parents. These parents display higher levels of both responsiveness and demandingness. We studied the aspect of demandingness using a questionnaire aimed at children aged between 1 and 4 years. 82 Children with recurrent respiratory infections (RRI) and 399 control children were included. Results: Parents of RRI children regulated the quantitative dietary intake of their child less;likewise they gave less stimulation to their children to eat. They also taught their children less on what they can or cannot touch and they argued more with their children (all p < 0.05). However, when it comes to simple rules like watching television or not, the parents of RRI children were very clear. There were however no differences in rules about television watching, computer time or bedtimes. Conclusions: Our study shows that parents of children with RRI are less demanding in complex pedagogic situations that ask for creativity from the parents. However, they are demanding with respect to simple rules. We found no child factors that could explain why children give their parents a hard time. We hypothesize that the parents of RRI children could be less capable of handling complex pedagogic situations (even more complicated by the infections) instead of being unwilling.展开更多

Based on experiences of hospital nurses, this paper aims to identify critical factors for nurses in managing relationally demanding situations in care for very ill and/or dying patients. Methods: In-depth interviews were carried out with six nurses, working in a medium-sized hospital in Norway. The interviews were analysed using an interpretative phenomenological analysis. Results: The lack of identification with the core aspect of the job, relational contact with patients and relatives, and external motivation were found as potential barriers for managing relationally demanding jobs. The results also indicate that the nurses’ experiences of symptoms of burnout can be a result of demands that exceeded the nurses’ resources. A match between personal capacity and demands, mutual support among colleagues and leadership support, and contextual factors are critical to prevent the negative process of burnout. Conclusion: The results underscore the importance of an early response to employees who are beginning to struggle at work and the relevance of a true match between personal capacity and job demands. Method: In-depth interviews were conducted with ten work-engaged nurses employed at the main hospital in one region in Norway. The interviews were interpreted using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis method (IPA). Results: The results indicate the importance of using the personal resources: authenticity and a sense of humour for staying healthy. The nurses’ authenticity, in the sense of having a strong sense of ownership towards their personal life experiences, and a sense of having a meaningful life in line with their own values and interests, was an important element when they considered their own health to be good in spite of repetitive strain injuries and perceived stress. These personal resources seem to be positively related to their well-being and work engagement, which serves as an argument for including them among other personal resources, often conceptualized in terms of Psychological Capital (PsyCap). The results also showed that the nurses worked actively and intentionally with conditions that could contribute to safeguarding their own health. Conclusion: The results indicated the importance of stimulating the nurses’ area of knowledge about caring for themselves in order to enable them to maintain good physical and mental health. A focus on self-care should be part of the agenda as early as during nursing education.展开更多

Even though the link between foot posture and lower-extremity injuries remains controversial,there has been little research focus on bilateral foot symmetry.This study evaluated the correlation between bilateral symme...Even though the link between foot posture and lower-extremity injuries remains controversial,there has been little research focus on bilateral foot symmetry.This study evaluated the correlation between bilateral symmetry in foot posture and lower extremity musculoskeletal injuries among workers in physically intensive occupations.A total of 248 participants with physically demanding roles were enrolled.Historical data on lower-limb musculoskeletal injuries were obtained through a review of medical records,supplemented by results from onsite consultations.The foot arch index(AI)was quantitatively measured using a 3D laser foot scanner,and foot posture was evaluated using the foot posture index-6(FPI-6).The participants were categorized into subgroups based on bilateral symmetry assessments of their feet.Logistic regression analyses were performed for statistical comparisons after adjusting for potential confounding factors.The results indicate that abnormalities in foot posture and arch,assessed using the FPI-6 and AI,were identified in 42.3%and 47.2%of participants,respectively,with 20.9%and 16.5%demonstrating bilateral asymmetry in these parameters.When comparing bilateral and unilateral foot protonation with bilaterally normal feet,the risk adjustments revealed differences of 2.274(95%CI:1.094-4.729,P=0.028)and 2.751(95%CI:1.222-6.191,P=0.015),respectively.Furthermore,the risk adjustment for age,BMI,smoking status,physical training years,training time,training frequency,warm-up before training,relaxation after training,MIS prevention,and treatment learning for unilateral flatfoot relative to bilateral normal feet was 3.197(95%CI:1.235-8.279,P=0.017).This study demonstrates that workers in physically demanding occupations who exhibit unilateral foot protonation or unilateral flatfoot are at an increased risk of lower-extremity musculoskeletal injuries.展开更多

Modern machine-learning applications require huge artificial networks demanding computational power and memory.Light-based platforms promise ultrafast and energy-efficient hardware,which may help realize nextgeneratio...Modern machine-learning applications require huge artificial networks demanding computational power and memory.Light-based platforms promise ultrafast and energy-efficient hardware,which may help realize nextgeneration data processing devices.However,current photonic networks are limited by the number of inputoutput nodes that can be processed in a single shot.This restricted network capacity prevents their application to relevant large-scale problems such as natural language processing.Here,we realize a photonic processor for supervised learning with a capacity exceeding 1.5×10^(10)optical nodes,more than one order of magnitude larger than any previous implementation,which enables photonic large-scale text encoding and classification.By exploiting the full three-dimensional structure of the optical field propagating in free space,we overcome the interpolation threshold and reach the over-parameterized region of machine learning,a condition that allows high-performance sentiment analysis with a minimal fraction of training points.Our results provide a novel solution to scale up light-driven computing and open the route to photonic natural language processing.展开更多

文摘Modern machine-learning applications require huge artificial networks demanding computational power and memory.Light-based platforms promise ultrafast and energy-efficient hardware,which may help realize nextgeneration data processing devices.However,current photonic networks are limited by the number of inputoutput nodes that can be processed in a single shot.This restricted network capacity prevents their application to relevant large-scale problems such as natural language processing.Here,we realize a photonic processor for supervised learning with a capacity exceeding 1.5×10^(10)optical nodes,more than one order of magnitude larger than any previous implementation,which enables photonic large-scale text encoding and classification.By exploiting the full three-dimensional structure of the optical field propagating in free space,we overcome the interpolation threshold and reach the over-parameterized region of machine learning,a condition that allows high-performance sentiment analysis with a minimal fraction of training points.Our results provide a novel solution to scale up light-driven computing and open the route to photonic natural language processing.
