Security-Reliability Tradeoff Analysis for Jamming Aided Decode-and-Forward Relay Networks

In this paper,we explore a cooperative decode-and-forward(DF)relay network comprised of a source,a relay,and a destination in the presence of an eavesdropper.To improve physical-layer security of the relay system,we propose a jamming aided decodeand-forward relay(JDFR)scheme combining the use of artificial noise and DF relaying which requires two stages to transmit a packet.Specifically,in stage one,the source sends confidential message to the relay while the destination acts as a friendly jammer and transmits artificial noise to confound the eavesdropper.In stage two,the relay forwards its re-encoded message to the destination while the source emits artificial noise to confuse the eavesdropper.In addition,we analyze the security-reliability tradeoff(SRT)performance of the proposed JDFR scheme,where security and reliability are evaluated by deriving intercept probability(IP)and outage probability(OP),respectively.For the purpose of comparison,SRT of the traditional decode-and-forward relay(TDFR)scheme is also analyzed.Numerical results show that the SRT performance of the proposed JDFR scheme is better than that of the TDFR scheme.Also,it is shown that for the JDFR scheme,a better SRT performance can be obtained by the optimal power allocation(OPA)between the friendly jammer and user. 展开更多

In orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based multihop communications, the conventional decodeand-forward (DF) relay scheme severely suffers from the error propagation problem. This drawback is serious in multihop networks as errors made by any relay node may fail the decoder at the destination in great chance. In this paper, we propose a bit error rate (BER) modified DF protocol (BMDF) which can be applied to systems where error correction channel coding and M-ary modulation are used. By modeling all links except the last one as a binary symmetric channel (BSC), we derive a log likelihood ratio (LLR) modification function relying only on the accumulated BER of all previous links to be applied to the output of the soft demapper. Furthermore, to reduce the computational complexity and signaling overhead, the modification function is simplified from its original exponential expression and less BERs are delivered between nodes by making successive subcarriers share the same BER. In addition, for situations where the channel state information (CSI) of forward link is available, the proposed BMDF can be further enhanced by combining with subcarrier pairing (SP) and power allocation (PA), where a sorted-channel gain SP scheme and a greedy PA algorithm are proposed. In this paper, we propose the decode-and-forward(DF) based bidirectional wireless information and power transfer(BWIPT) in two-hop relay systems, where the bidirectional relay can decode and forward information from the user to the access point(AP), and assist the wireless power transfer from the AP to the user. To maximize the information rate from the user to the AP, we derive the closed form expression of the optimal power splitting(PS) factor, and the time allocation scheme to obtain the optimal time switching(TS) factor. Simulation results show that for both PS and TS protocols, the proposed DF based bidirectional relay systems can improve the information rate as compared with the amplify-and-forward(AF) based bidirectional relay systems. 展开更多

Spatial diversity plays a significant role in wireless communication systems,including the Fourth Generation(4G)and Fifth Generation(5G)systems,and it is expected to be a fundamental part of the future wireless communication systems as well.The Multiple-Input Multiple-Output(MIMO)technology,which is included in the IEEE 802.16j standard,still holds the most crucial position in the 4G spectrum as it promises to improve the throughput,capacity,spectral,and energy efficiency of wireless communication systems in the 2020s.This makes MIMO a viable technology for delay constrained medical and health care facilities.This paper presents an approximate closed-form expression of the ergodic capacity for the Decode-and-Forward(DF)protocol MIMO-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM)relaying network.Although MIMO-OFDM is highly valuable for modern high-speed wireless communication systems,especially in the medical sciences,its performance degrades in multi-hop relay networks.Therefore,in this paper,an approximate closed-form expression is derived for an end-to-end ergodic capacity of multi-hop DF MIMO-OFDM wireless communication system has been presented.Monte-Carlo simulations are conducted to verify the performance of the presented analysis regarding the capacity(bits/s/Hz)for different SNR-dB values for single,2×2,4×4,and multi-hop DF MIMOOFDM systems.The presented results provide useful insights for the research on the end-to-end ergodic capacity evaluation. 展开更多

The distance-decay effect of molecular signals makes communication range a major challenge for diffusion-based Molecular Communication(MC).To solve this problem,the intermediate nano-machine is deployed as a relay between the transmitter and its intended receiver nano-machines.In this work,we employ the Depleted Molecule Shift Keying(D-MoSK)to model a Decode-and-Forward(DF)relay communication scheme.The closed-form expression of Bit Error Rate(BER)for the concerned DF relay with D-MoSK is derived.Meanwhile,the maximum a posteriori probability,minimum error probability,and maximum likelihood schemes are formulated for data detection.The relationships between BER and other key parameters,including the number of released molecules,receiving radius,and relay position,are investigated in detail.Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve communication reliability significantly.Moreover,the performance gain can be maximized by optimizing the position of the relay and the receiving radius. 展开更多

In rd (DF) MIMO two-way relay systems, the transmission schemes are designed and the closed-form expressions for the outage probability and average symbol error rate (ASER) of the twoway relay system are derived based on two different scenarios of channel state information (CSI). For perfect CSI, the maximum-ratio-transmission and combining (MRT-MRC) technique is applied to design the beamforming and combining vectors. Without perfect CSI, the transmission scheme with limited feedback is designed, and the analytical results are verified through two kinds of codebooks, i.e., random vector quantization and Grassmann. The simulation results show that, the proposed transmission schemes for the two-way relay system can outperform other transmission schemes in the performance of outage probability and ASER, and the accuracy of the derived closed-form expressions is also verified by the numerical simulations. 展开更多

This article analyzes the diversity order of several proposed schemes, where the transmit antenna selection (TAS) strategies are combined with low-complexity decode-and-forward (DF) protocols in the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relaying scenario. Although antenna selection is a suboptimal form of beamforming, it enjoys the advantages of tractable optimization and low feedback overhead. Specifically, this article proposes schemes that combine TAS strategies with fixed decode-and-forward (FDF) and selection decode-and-forward (SDF) protocols. Following that, the asymptotic expressions of outage probabilities are derived and the diversity order of the proposed schemes analyzed. These kinds of combination of transmit antenna selection strategies and low-complexity decode-and-forward protocols can achieve partial diversity order in the MIMO relaying scenario. Non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA)is considered as one of the key technologies for the fifth generation(5G)wireless communications.The integration of NOMA and device-to-device(D2D)communications has recently attracted wide attention.In this paper,a relaying D2D communications assisted with cooperative relaying systems using NOMA(DRC-NOMA)is considered.We analyze the ergodic sum-rate for the proposed system and then derive the closed-form expressions.In addition,an optimal power allocation strategy maximizing the ergodic sum-rate is proposed based on these analysis results.Numerical results show the good agreement between the results of analysis and Monte Carlo method.The proposed DRC-NOMA has a great improvement of the ergodic sum-rate in the small regime of average channel gain of D2D pair. 展开更多

In this paper, a novel unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)-enabled full duplex decode-and-forward(DF) technique is used in mobile relaying system. Compared with conventional static relaying, mobile relaying provides more degree of freedom for experiencing better channel conditions and further improving the system reliable performance. The source and relay transmit power as well as relay trajectory are jointly optimized for sum outage probability minimization in mobile relaying system. Due to the non-convex nature of the original problem, block coordinate decent optimization techniques are employed to decompose it into two sub-problems, which leads to an efficient iterative algorithm. Specifically, for the pre-determined relay trajectory, the optimal transmit power of source and relay are obtained by solving Karush-Kuhn-Tucker(KKT) conditions. For the given source/relay power allocation, the optimal UAV trajectory is obtained by solving dual problem. Based on the two steps, an iterative algorithm is proposed to jointly optimize source/relay power allocation and UAV trajectory alternately. Numerical results show the performance gain of our proposed scheme. 展开更多

In this paper, we propose cooperative relay networks with non-orthogonal multiple access in order to design a near-optimal power allocation strategy. Like other next generation wireless technologies, spatially multiplexed transmissions are achieved by relay nodes which enables decode-and-forward relaying of a new superposition code after reception from the source. It is worth noting that, since it is hard to exactly prove the proposed PA scheme, due the fact that it is one kind of the approximate conjectures. Therefore, mathematical and numerical methods have been used to clarify the feasibility of the proposal. Numerical results indicate that it is able to asymptotically achieve the optimal sum rate at the higher signal-to-noise ratio region with the proposed strategy applied instead of negligible performance loss. 展开更多

Wireless information and powered transfer networks(WIPT) has recently been implemented in 5th generation wireless networks. In this paper, we consider half-duplex relaying system in which the energy constrained relay node collects energy via radio frequency(RF) signals from the surrounding resources. Regarding energy harvesting protocol, we propose power time switching-based relaying(PTSR) architecture for both amplify-and-forward(AF) and decode-and-forward(DF). Especially, we reveal the analytical expressions of achievable throughput, ergodic capacity and energy-efficient in case of imperfect channel state information(CSI) for both AF and DF network. Through numerical analysis, we analyse the throughput performance, energy-efficient and ergodic capacity for different parameters, including power splitting ratio and energy harvesting time. Moreover, we also depict the performance comparison between AF and DF network with perfect and imperfect CSI. The results in numerical analysis reveal that the result of AF relaying network is less significant than DF relaying network in the various scenarios. 展开更多

The κ-μ fading model is an advanced channel model in super dense wireless networks.In this paper,we evaluate the performance of the system over κ-μ fading channel in super dense relay networks with consideration of multiple independent but not necessarily identically distributed(i.n.i.d.) cochannel interference(CCI) under interferencelimited environment.More specifically,we derive a useful and accurate cumulative distribution function(CDF) expression of the end-to-end signal-to-interference plus noise(SINR) ratio.Moreover,we derive novel analytical expressions of the outage probability(OP),average bit error probability(ABEP) and average capacity for binary modulation types and arbitrary positive values of κ-and μ of such system.Furthermore,we propose asymptotic analysis for both the OP and ABEP to give physical insights.A simplified analytical form for the ABEP at high-SNR regimes is provided as well.Finally,the accuracy of the derived expressions is well validated by Monte Carlo simulations. 展开更多

To achieve the better system performance for cooperative communication in non-orthogonal cognitive radio vehicular adhoc networks(CR-VANETs),this paper investigates the power allocation considering the interference to the main system in a controllable range.We propose a three-slot one-way vehicle system model where the mobile vehicle nodes complete information interaction with the assistance of other independent nodes by borrowing the unused radio spectrum with the primary networks.The end-to-end SNR relationship in overlay and underlay cognitive communication system mode are analyzed by using two forwarding protocol,namely,decode-and-forward(DF)protocol and amplify-and-forward(AF)protocol,respectively.The system outage probability is derived and the optimal power allocation factor is obtained via seeking the minimum value of the approximation of system outage probability.The analytical results have been confirmed by means of Monte Carlo simulations.Simulation results show that the proposed system performance in terms of outage under the optimal power allocation is superior to that under the average power allocation,and is also better than that under other power allocation systems. 展开更多

Bilayer low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are an effective coding technique for decode-and-forward relaying, where the relay forwards extra parity bits to help the destination to decode the source bits correctly. In the existing bilayer coding scheme, these parity bits are protected by an error correcting code and assumed reliably available at the receiver. We propose an uneoded relaying scheme, where the extra parity bits are forwarded to the destination without any protection. Through density evolution analysis and simulation results, we show that our proposed scheme achieves better performance in terms of bit erasure probability than the existing relaying scheme. In addition, our proposed scheme results in lower complexity at the relay. 展开更多
